Chelsea Green suffers a broken orbital bone, Kevin Knight challenges Chris Jericho in AEW and John Cena’s WWE future becomes clearer.
Chelsea Green’s first world championship reign has already encountered a potentially significant obstacle, while AEW continues stacking the road to All In.
Elsewhere, new details have emerged about John Cena’s post-retirement relationship with WWE.
It’s the Chairshot Wrestling News Report for August 10, 2026!
Chelsea Green Suffers Broken Orbital Bone
Chelsea Green reportedly suffered a broken orbital bone during Friday’s six-woman tag-team match on SmackDown.
The injury comes only days after Green captured the Interim WWE Women’s Championship at SummerSlam, giving her the first world championship of her WWE career. The timetable for her recovery and what the injury means for the title have not yet been determined.
The timing could hardly be worse.
Green finally reached the top of WWE’s women’s division after years of turning every role she was given into something memorable. An extended absence immediately after winning the championship would deprive her of the opportunity to establish what that reign can actually become.
WWE’s next move will also be important. If Green can remain on television while recovering, her character is ideally suited to keeping a championship story moving without wrestling every week. If the injury requires a lengthy absence, the company may have another difficult title decision to make.
Kevin Knight Challenges Chris Jericho Before Answering Darby Allin
TNT Champion Kevin Knight has challenged Chris Jericho to a championship match on Wednesday’s Dynamite in Las Vegas.
The challenge came after Darby Allin proposed a Falls Count Anywhere match against Knight for the TNT Championship at All In: London. Knight acknowledged Allin’s challenge but said he wanted Jericho first, arguing that Allin would not have defeated him in Mexico without Jericho’s involvement.
The same episode of Collision also saw “Speedball” Mike Bailey and Nick Wayne answer MJF’s call for opponents in a qualifier that will determine the No. 2 entry in the Casino Gauntlet at All In.
AEW is using the final weeks before All In to make the TNT Championship feel connected to several stories instead of one isolated feud.
Knight now has Jericho directly in front of him and Darby waiting beyond that. If he survives Wednesday, the All In challenge becomes more meaningful because Knight will arrive at Wembley with another major defense behind him.
For Darby, Falls Count Anywhere fits the character without requiring AEW to manufacture a gimmick around him. The larger question is whether Knight reaches London as champion or whether Jericho changes the entire direction of the match first.
John Cena’s WWE Ambassador Deal Keeps Him Exclusive
John Cena’s current WWE agreement reportedly prevents him from wrestling for another promotion following his in-ring retirement.
Cena signed a new deal before retiring that keeps him with WWE as an ambassador. The agreement reportedly includes exclusivity regarding future wrestling appearances.
WWE is also still planning the John Cena Classic for later this year. December is currently being targeted, although the date has not been finalized.
Cena has been unusually firm about retirement, and the contract reinforces that WWE intends his final match to remain his final match.
That matters because wrestling retirements have traditionally been treated as temporary until proven otherwise. Cena appears determined to make his departure different.
The John Cena Classic may become the more interesting part of his next chapter. WWE can keep Cena connected to developing talent without asking him to reverse the decision that gave his retirement tour meaning in the first place.
AEW Takes Dynamite and Collision to Las Vegas
AEW will hold both Dynamite and Collision from the Pearl Theater at the Palms in Las Vegas on Wednesday, August 12.
The doubleheader begins at 4:30 PM PT and continues AEW’s build toward All In: London on August 30 at Wembley Stadium.
Putting both shows together gives AEW a large block of television to advance a card that is beginning to take shape quickly.
Kevin Knight’s TNT Championship situation and the Casino Gauntlet qualifier already provide immediate stakes. The closer AEW gets to Wembley, the less room there is for television that simply fills time.
All In is the company’s biggest stage of the summer. Wednesday should tell viewers which stories AEW believes are important enough to carry into it.
Chelsea Green’s injury is the most immediate concern coming out of the weekend because it could alter WWE’s women’s championship plans almost as soon as they were established.
AEW has a different challenge. The promotion has several moving pieces around Kevin Knight, Darby Allin, Chris Jericho and the Casino Gauntlet, and now needs to turn those pieces into matches viewers feel compelled to see at Wembley.
For wrestling fans, the next few days should provide clarity on both fronts: how WWE protects a newly crowned champion dealing with an injury, and how aggressively AEW intends to build All In during its Las Vegas doubleheader.
