Brock Lesnar Officially Announces His Retirement

Brock Lesnar has officially retired from professional wrestling and combat sports. Lesnar made the announcement during Tuesday’s appearance on The Pat McAfee Show. He confirmed that Saturday’s Hell in a Cell loss to Oba Femi at SummerSlam was his final match.

The 49-year-old said he still had fuel in the tank but believed it was time to step away. He plans to focus on his family and support his children as they pursue their own athletic careers.

Lesnar began his professional wrestling career after winning an NCAA Division I heavyweight championship at the University of Minnesota. He became WWE’s youngest world champion at 25, briefly pursued an NFL career and later captured the UFC Heavyweight Championship.

The SummerSlam ending now carries even greater meaning. Lesnar did not merely lose the final match of a trilogy. He selected Femi as the wrestler who would defeat him, receive his public endorsement and close his career.

Former NQCC Members Capture NXT Tag Team Championship

Myles Borne and Tavion Heights defeated Brad Baylor and Ricky Smokes to win the NXT Tag Team Championship.

Borne entered the match already holding the NXT North American Championship. Heights secured the victory by pinning Smokes after the Height of Glory, giving him his first WWE championship and making Borne a double champion.

Kendal Grey also retained the NXT Women’s Championship against Lola Vice in an NXT Underground Match. Grey escaped the sleeper hold and forced Vice to submit to a cross armbar.

Tony D’Angelo confronted Grayson Waller and Cruz Montana during the show. Waller and Montana will now meet in a No. 1 contender’s match, with the winner challenging D’Angelo for the NXT Championship at Heatwave.

Borne now holds championships in two divisions, but that success could eventually create tension within his partnership with Heights. NQCC must balance Borne’s individual responsibilities with the demands of defending the tag titles together.

Grey’s victory was equally important. Vice entered the Underground stipulation with an obvious advantage because of her fighting background, but Grey survived the match and defeated the challenger at her own game.

Wrestling Legend Dory Funk Jr. Dies at 85

Dory Funk Jr. has died at 85. Funk won the NWA World Heavyweight Championship in 1969 and held it for more than four years. His 1,563-day reign remains the second-longest uninterrupted run in the championship’s history.

Dory and his brother Terry Funk became one of professional wrestling’s most influential families, succeeding across the United States, Japan and numerous other international markets.

Following his full-time career, Funk operated the Funking Conservatory and helped train performers including Kurt Angle, Edge, Christian and The Hardy Boyz. Dory and Terry entered the WWE Hall of Fame together in 2009.

No cause of death had been announced.

Funk’s legacy extends far beyond championships. His controlled, credible style influenced generations of wrestlers, while his work as a trainer ensured that knowledge continued reaching performers long after his own prime.

NXT opened Tuesday’s broadcast with a memorial graphic and later aired a tribute video, connecting one of wrestling’s most important historical figures to the generation still building its future.

What to Watch at AEW Grand Slam Mexico

AEW Grand Slam Mexico will air live Wednesday from Arena Mexico in Mexico City with an expanded two-and-a-half-hour broadcast.

The eight-match lineup includes two championship defenses, several All In developments and a Street Fight between former United Empire partners Will Ospreay and Mark Davis.

Kyle Fletcher will defend the AEW International Championship against “Speedball” Mike Bailey. The Demand will also defend the AEW World Trios Championship against Hangman Page, Bandido and Brody King.

Andrade, Komander and Tommaso Ciampa will compete for the advantageous first entrance in the Men’s Casino Gauntlet at All In.

Ospreay against Davis has the clearest personal stakes. Davis blames his former partner for abandoning the people who supported him, while Ospreay needs to move beyond the Don Callis Family before challenging Kenny Omega at All In.

The Trios Championship match also gives Page an immediate opportunity to reestablish himself after returning to AEW. He cannot challenge for the world title, but winning another championship would give him a new direction without placing him back into Omega’s orbit.

Lesnar’s retirement officially closes one of the most unusual careers in combat-sports history. He reached the highest level in amateur wrestling, professional wrestling and mixed martial arts before choosing Femi as the final opponent of his career.
