Elsewhere, Chelsea Green received encouraging news about her championship status, and Punk’s schedule now includes a notable WWE-AAA stop in Chicago.

Nic Nemeth Retains the TNA World Championship Against Jeff Hardy

Nic Nemeth successfully defended the TNA World Championship against Jeff Hardy in Thursday night’s Impact main event, pinning Hardy after the Danger Zone. The victory marked Nemeth’s first career win over Hardy and closed a show that also saw M by Elegance defeat Indi Hartwell in the Knockouts Television Championship Tournament semifinals and KC Navarro defeat Eddie Edwards.

This was exactly the kind of television defense TNA needed from Nemeth.

Hardy is established enough that the result carried genuine uncertainty, but Nemeth retained without the match feeling like another routine championship stop.

The bigger value is what comes next. Jeff remains tied to the Nemeth family through the upcoming tag-team title program, while Nic exits Philadelphia looking stronger rather than merely surviving.

Chelsea Green Will Reportedly Keep Her Championship Through Injury

Chelsea Green is expected to remain Interim WWE Women’s Champion despite suffering a broken orbital bone. Green is expected to miss several weeks of in-ring competition, but WWE reportedly plans to keep her on television and continue the title reign instead of stripping her.

That is the right call if Green can safely remain involved on television.

An interim championship already exists because Rhea Ripley is unavailable. Creating another vacancy would turn the division into a title-management problem rather than a wrestling story.

Green is also uniquely equipped to make an injury part of her character. Give her a microphone, let her complain about being medically prevented from defending the title and suddenly WWE has weeks of storyline material without needing her to take a bump.

SmackDown Loads Up Boston With Three Championship Matches

Friday’s SmackDown from TD Garden will feature Baron Corbin defending the United States Championship against hometown challenger Carmelo Hayes, Tiffany Stratton defending the Women’s United States Championship against Jacy Jayne, and WWE Tag Team Champions Damian Priest & R-Truth defending against both The War Raiders and Tama Tonga & Talla Tonga. CM Punk and Kevin Owens are also scheduled to appear one week before their Undisputed WWE Championship match in Toronto, while Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton continue their escalating rivalry.

This is considerably more than a “holding-pattern” episode.

Melo challenging for a championship in Boston gives the U.S. Title match an easy emotional hook, while the three-way tag match can advance multiple programs without requiring the champions to lose directly. But Punk and Owens remain the centerpiece.

One week out from a WWE Championship match in Toronto, WWE no longer needs another lengthy explanation of why they dislike each other. Friday should be about making viewers believe somebody might not wait until next week.

CM Punk Added to WWE-AAA Worlds Collide in Chicago

WWE announced an extended run of CM Punk appearances through October, including WWE x AAA Worlds Collide on September 26 in Chicago. The event will take place in Punk’s hometown market on the same day AEW presents All Out in the Chicago area. Punk is also scheduled for Friday’s SmackDown, Saturday’s NXT live event in Virginia and a series of WWE dates across Canada, Mexico and the United States.

Punk appearing on a WWE-AAA event would be interesting anywhere. Doing it in Chicago while AEW runs All Out in the same market turns the booking into something much larger.

WWE does not even need Punk to wrestle for the announcement to matter. His presence alone gives Worlds Collide a centerpiece and guarantees that one of wrestling’s most combustible old relationships becomes part of the conversation surrounding that weekend.

Leon Slater Accepts High-Stakes Cedric Alexander Rematch at Lockdown

Leon Slater challenged Cedric Alexander to another X Division Championship match at Lockdown on Thursday’s Impact. Alexander agreed on the condition that if Slater loses, his record-setting X Division Championship reign will be erased from the history books; Slater accepted. TNA also announced AJ Francis against Elijah inside a steel cage for Lockdown.

The stipulation is wonderfully absurd wrestling logic–you cannot actually erase a championship reign that everyone watched happen, but the ridiculousness gives Slater something emotionally larger than a title defense to protect.

More importantly, TNA is giving Lockdown matches that actually justify the gimmick-heavy environment rather than simply putting ordinary rivalries inside cages.

Alexander-Slater now has consequence. Francis-Elijah has escalation. That is what a themed event needs.

TNA Impact Results — August 13, 2026

Thursday’s Impact featured five completed matches and advanced multiple programs toward Lockdown.

For wrestling fans, Friday now belongs to WWE. Three championships are on the line in Boston, Punk and Owens have one final television encounter before Toronto, and Cody Rhodes is still hunting Randy Orton.

There is plenty scheduled, but the best part is that almost every major segment has somewhere to go afterward.
