Kevin Owens completed an improbable comeback during SummerSlam Night 2 and immediately earned an opportunity at CM Punk’s Undisputed WWE Championship.

Roman Reigns finally defeated Seth Rollins, three new champions were crowned and WWE now heads into the first Raw after SummerSlam with several divisions dramatically changed.

Kevin Owens Returns and Earns WWE Championship Match

Kevin Owens made his surprise return during the scheduled Undisputed WWE Championship No. 1 Contender’s Match between Finn Bálor and Sami Zayn.

SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis initially added Gunther to the match before revealing that a fourth wrestler would also participate. Owens then entered a WWE ring for the first time in approximately 17 months following surgery to address a serious neck injury.

Owens ultimately countered Zayn’s Helluva Kick and delivered the Stunner to pin his longtime friend. The victory earned Owens the next championship opportunity against CM Punk.

Owens later discussed the uncertainty surrounding his recovery and admitted there were periods when he feared he would never wrestle again. He credited his family, friends, WWE’s medical team and Big E with helping him through the rehabilitation process.

Owens did not return for a ceremonial appearance or a carefully controlled exhibition. WWE immediately placed him into a physical four-way match and moved him directly into the championship picture.

His history with Punk provides WWE with an immediate rivalry that does not require months of explanation. Owens must now prove that his neck can withstand a sustained schedule while Punk prepares for a challenger who has never needed much encouragement to make a conflict personal.

The second night produced more championship movement than Saturday. Corbin and Gable completed successful returns to prominence, while Green left the ladder match with the biggest victory of her WWE career.

Owens’ return also changed what had been a straightforward choice between Bálor and Zayn. Punk now faces an opponent who was not even officially part of the active roster conversation when SummerSlam began.

Roman Reigns Finally Defeats Seth Rollins

Roman Reigns defeated Seth Rollins to retain the World Heavyweight Championship and earn his first decisive victory over his former Shield partner.

The match repeatedly called back to their shared history. Both men used familiar moves from their Shield years, including techniques associated with former teammate Dean Ambrose.

Rollins had an opportunity to use a steel chair after the referee went down but hesitated. Reigns later faced the same decision and threw the chair away rather than allowing the betrayal that ended The Shield to determine another championship match.

Reigns eventually delivered three consecutive Spears to secure the victory. After the match, he extended his fist in the center of the ring. Rollins placed an old Shield mask on the mat before accepting the gesture and completing the group’s familiar fist bump.

The ending does not necessarily mean Reigns and Rollins will become partners again. It suggests they can finally move forward without allowing a betrayal from more than a decade ago to control every interaction between them.

Reigns retains the championship and removes one of the few remaining arguments against his current run. Rollins must now determine what comes next after losing the match he repeatedly described as essential to proving his place in WWE history.

Chelsea Green, Chad Gable and Baron Corbin Capture Championships

Chelsea Green won the Interim WWE Women’s Championship by surviving Charlotte Flair, Jade Cargill, Tiffany Stratton and Lash Legend in the five-woman ladder match.

Green now holds the championship while Rhea Ripley recovers from her knee injury. Her victory establishes a future title-unification match whenever Ripley is cleared to return.

Chad Gable defeated Penta to capture the Intercontinental Championship in front of his hometown crowd and family. The victory gives Gable his first WWE singles championship after years of pursuing a defining individual accomplishment.

Baron Corbin also defeated Trick Williams to win the United States Championship. Williams’ associate Lil Yachty attempted to become involved, but the interference contributed to the champion’s defeat.

All three championship changes create immediate television stories.

Green must prove she can carry a division while knowing that Ripley’s return places an expiration date on her status as the undisputed champion. Gable must demonstrate that his redemption extends beyond one emotional hometown victory, while Corbin has to deal with Williams and Carmelo Hayes remaining near the United States Championship picture.

What to Watch on WWE Raw

WWE will present the first Raw after SummerSlam on Monday night, with the company previously advertising the return of Big Cass for the August 3 episode.

A video package questioned what happens when someone labeled a “can’t-miss” prospect fails to meet those expectations before revealing the August 3 date. The presentation also included imagery connected to Cass’ former partner, Enzo Amore, although WWE has not confirmed that Amore will return with him.

The largest immediate questions come from SummerSlam.

Roman Reigns retained his championship but may have reached the end of his rivalry with Rollins. Chad Gable returns to Raw as Intercontinental Champion, while Penta must decide whether to pursue an immediate rematch or move toward a reunion with Rey Fenix.

Liv Morgan survived IYO SKY on Saturday, Raquel Rodriguez holds the Women’s Intercontinental Championship and The Judgment Day remains deeply connected to several stories across Raw and AAA.

Raw also represents the first opportunity to clarify whether Brock Lesnar’s embrace with Oba Femi marked the end of his career or simply the conclusion of their rivalry.

SummerSlam Night 2 gave WWE several new directions without erasing the importance of what happened Saturday. Punk still has Orton and Rhodes surrounding his championship, but Owens has now become his official challenger.

Reigns can finally move beyond Rollins after proving that he could defeat him without outside assistance or surrendering to the anger created by The Shield’s destruction.

The new champions face a different challenge. Winning at SummerSlam created memorable moments for Green, Gable and Corbin. Their next television appearances will begin determining whether those victories launch meaningful reigns or become isolated highlights.
