MLW on Tubi now, but too many shows are Thursday. So we get the opening Opera Cup rounds continuing today!
Well MLW moving to Tubi on Thursdays just means, absolutely nothing to me. TNA and JCW are also on Thursdays, and they are both consistently more entertaining. So I won’t be changing the day I cover MLW until it improves its quality. And given the fact they’re still using 3 month old canned footage and when we do eventually catch up to September events…probably in January at this rate, they have Masha Slamovich on the show, yeah, I don’t understand the appeal or decision making of this company.
But we’re in for a penny…so I guess in for a pound. Let’s continue this useless Carny ride of squash matches and imbecilic editing.

Opera Cup Opening Round: Austin Aries vs “Hot Sauce” Tracy Williams
Aries grabs the microphone to cut a promo that his team has checked comments with some confusion about who Austin Aries and what he was. People need to stop talking about him in the past tense, he IS the greatest, he’s him. Decent promo and Tracy Williams is a great technical wrestler, so this might not suck.
A bit of a tie up and struggle, but no one gives an inch. Corner play, Up and Over, Arm Drag, Headlock takedown, Aries with the Handstand out, Dropkick and corner arrogance while Tracy composes himself. They tie up again, go to the corner, Double Up and Over, Tracy grabs an arm, full Arm Drag and Twist into a Headlock and Tracy then uses his technical genius to duck a Leap Frog and turn it into a Cradle as Aries begs off after the kick out.
Test of Strength, Knee, but Tracy batters Aries with four Kitchen Sinks in a row into a Capture Suplex. They fight to the corner, Bell Clap from Aries and an Elbow Drop, into a few grinding knees to take the wind out of Tracy’s sails. Whip into a Hip Attack, Snapmare, Face Step and Diving Back Elbow to a seated Hot Sauce. Tracy starts punching and Push Kicking but Aries grabs the leg, Knee Breaker into the Pendulum Elbow. He starts mocking and kicking Tracy, Tracy fires, Aries tries a combo into a Discus but eats a Pump Kick. Tracy lights him up, Lariats, Boots, Half Hatch Superplex! Only a two count though! Aries ducks away from Tracy’s grip, forcing him to gather him again, but Aries shakes him off, Discus Elbow into a Cradle for two and then a transition into the Last Chancery! Tracy barely gets to the ropes.
Aries perches Tracy, Tracy fights back, DDT into the buckle, stacks him up, but kick out! Tracy transitions the Kick Out to the STF but Aries bites his way out of the hold! Aries stays in the ropes to stop Tracy’s offense, Back Drops him outside and lands ribs first into the guardrail. Neckbreaker into the ropes, IED into the Brainbuster! Aries wins!
So far, Aries is truly the one, the only, wrestler to put on good matches during this Fusion Reborn era.
Good Brothers with a promo from Sri Lanka. It’s fine, a little corny and talking smack to GBOT.
Opera Cup Opening Round: Oddyssey vs Okumura w/ Ikuro Kwon
As I’ve said before, Okumura moves worse than Jado 6 years ago. So this is a squash match, you can’t convince me differently. Oddyssey back from the AJPW stint.
Oddyssey wants a hand shake, Okumura kicks it away, tries to tie up and Oddyssey shrugs him off. Headlock into Shoulder Block spot, Okumura is very stupidly trying to beat Oddyssey with power…and guess what, it doesn’t work. No kidding, right? Big O does a silly little dance, but it doesn’t really hurt. Okumura does hit a Cozy Cutter into a Senton, so Oddyssey is selling more than he should be for a walking cripple. Oddyssey finally explodes into a Lariat, then a Warrior style Splash, goes to the corner and Corner Splash, Okumura is a pancake.
It was a slightly extended Squash, but a useless Squash because no matter how much they try to say how decorated Okumura was, in what we’ve seen, he’s just an old crippled bitch.
Oh well at least we’re in June now since Saya and Rina are here. Still 3 months behind, but at least wrestlers that have some buzz. And then a Don Gato and Danny McBride commercial.
😂 We can't WAIT to see how these two get along at FIGHTLAND!

Trevor Lee vs Mistico
Rope run jumps, Crossers, Crossbody and then Trevor Lee hits the Manhattan Drop into a Frakensteiner making Mistico powder. Trevor goes to dive, Mistico redirects, a back headbutt into the buckle, Trevor slips climbing the buckle, more just fast paced useless spots. It’s bad when you can’t even do the pointless spots cleanly.
Trevor wants a handshake but Mistico hits a sloppy Sole Butt, but Trevor explodes, slams into him and rocks him with a Lariat for two. The crowd in New York is still behind Mistico even though he’s playing heel and has not hit anything that looks good. Multiple Round Kicks from Trevor into a Vertical Suplex, but only a near fall. Rope run spot, Mistico hits a Headscissors but Trevor stops the offense with a Backbreaker off of Mistico’s next attempt. Trevor with an Octopus Stretch into a pinning combination but only a two count. Stomps and dropping knees keep Trevor in control. But Trevor plays to the audience booing him and cheering for Mistico regardless of the psychology of the match.
Striking repeatedly, Trevor has his moments, whips him but a Springboard Back Elbow rocks Trevor, Gamengiri into a Springboard Crossbody, Wristclutch Overhand Chop, Kick to the inside of the leg, Mexican Arm Drag into a Dive. The crowd calls for another, but out comes Austin Aries in a Mistico mask. Trevor Lee tries to take advantage of the distraction with an O’Connor Roll but Mistico kicks out. Double Kick spot after they cross each other up so they’re both down. Both are slowly getting up to the knees and start the strike exchange as they stand and deliver. Mistico calls for a timeout, then eats a Sole Butt, smack, Mistico with a rope run, Trevor connects on a few kicks, takes him up for a Powerbomb but a Hurricanrana for two!
Mistico drops a Leg on Trevor, points to the corner, goes up, takes 27 months so he misses so bad it misses the feet that Trevor got up. Just a garbage spot. They go into a locomotion Cradle spot but that sequence was such dog ass, it killed any momentum of the match. Gamengiri from Mistico , perches Trevor, goes for another but Trevor kicks off, then eats a Superkick from Mistico, again, Mistico takes too damn long to do anything, Trevor counters German Suplex into the buckles into a German Suplex Hold, only for two! Trevor goes to the top, Mistico cuts him off, three Gamengiris in a row, Spanish Fly that also takes 6 business days to clear. The referee counts 1-2-and Aries pulls the referee out.
Mistico executes the worst Plancha I’ve ever seen but hits the referee. Trevor attacks Aries, but Aries counters the PK and drops Trevor. Mistico attacks Aries, but Aries hits a Brainbuster on Mistico and then throws Trevor back in. Mistico is counted out.
Overall Score: 6/10
I’m never going to understand how people eat up Mistico’s garbage. He is an awful wrestler, poorly executes moves, takes 84 years to sequence anything and uses bad psychology. However, Aries and Tracy Williams having a really good match is something I can definitely sign off on. H.A.T.E. finally being showcased on MLW is nice, Saya is one of the hottest wrestlers in Japan, wrestler, period, not just Joshi, all wrestling. And Rina recently won the 5 Star Grand Prix, so she’s on the come up.
Okumura match was a useless Squash for yet another fat guy in MLW. And even though the main event wasn’t anything I would consider good, it at least had story implications that can be built off of. Mistico getting screwed should probably lead to him screwing Austin eventually, a title match for the Openweight belt with some kind of blow off gimmick. But either way, at least it was something to work with. Surprisingly decent episode. Still not great…but mediocrity is an improvement.
