A24 adapts SCP Foundation, AMC revives Point Break and Moss developer Polyarc shuts down after nearly 12 years.

The internet has officially generated another movie franchise.

A24 is bringing the SCP Foundation mythology to theaters, AMC is reviving Point Break as a television series and the studio behind Moss is shutting down after nearly 12 years.

Meanwhile, The Mandela Catalogue has already secured a major summer movie date.

It’s the Bandwagon Nerds News Report for September 12, 2026!

SCP Foundation Is Becoming an A24 Movie

A24, Spooky Pictures and Image Nation Studios are developing the first feature-length movie based on SCP Foundation, the collaborative internet horror mythology that began online in 2008. The project will also expand the V/H/S franchise and is targeting a 2027 theatrical release.

This may be one of the strangest pieces of internet culture to make the transition into a major theatrical release.

SCP Foundation was never designed like a traditional franchise. Thousands of contributors built the mythology through fictional reports describing anomalous creatures, objects and phenomena.

That lack of a single definitive story is exactly what makes it useful.

A filmmaker does not need to recreate one specific narrative. The concept provides an enormous sandbox of unsettling ideas and lets the movie decide which ones actually fit together.

Connecting it with V/H/S is an especially smart choice because anthology horror already speaks the same language.

Point Break Is Coming Back as a TV Series

AMC has greenlit a modern Point Break television series set more than 30 years after the 1991 movie. The story centers on a new group of thieves connected to the original Ex-Presidents gang, with the FBI turning to a former professional surfer to infiltrate the group.

The first question is obvious: why?

The second question is slightly more interesting: can this actually work?

Point Break has already survived one poorly received movie remake. A television continuation at least avoids asking somebody else to play Johnny Utah and Bodhi again while pretending audiences have forgotten Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze.

Using the Ex-Presidents legacy allows the show to acknowledge the original without becoming trapped inside it.

That is probably the only version worth attempting.

Moss Developer Polyarc Shuts Down

Polyarc, the developer behind Moss and Moss: Book II, announced Friday that the studio is shutting down after almost 12 years. The Seattle-based developer did not provide a specific reason for the closure.

Moss became one of virtual reality’s most effective demonstrations that VR games did not have to be first-person experiences.

Quill worked because the player was both controlling the character and physically existing inside her world, creating a relationship that felt different from traditional third-person games.

Polyarc recently brought the Moss games together as Moss: The Forgotten Relic on more conventional platforms, but that apparently was not enough to secure the studio’s long-term future.

Another talented development team disappearing is becoming far too ordinary a piece of games-industry news.

The Mandela Catalogue Gets a Summer 2028 Release

Amazon MGM, United Artists and Amblin have set June 9, 2028 for The Mandela Catalogue. Creator Alex Kister will direct the feature adaptation of his YouTube analog-horror series after the property reportedly generated an 11-studio bidding war.

This is the second internet-born horror property in one day that major studios are treating like legitimate franchise material.

The Mandela Catalogue and SCP Foundation developed audiences without traditional studios, networks or publishers deciding there was a market first.

Hollywood is now arriving after those communities already did the difficult part.

That reverses the traditional model.

Instead of studios creating something and hoping an audience appears, they are purchasing worlds where the audience already exists.

Slow Horses Season 6 Gets Darker

Gary Oldman and the Slow Horses cast previewed Season 6 at the Toronto International Film Festival, describing the new run as darker and heavier than previous seasons. The six-episode season premieres September 16 and adapts material from Joe Country and Slough House.

Slow Horses has reached the stage where consistency is almost its most impressive accomplishment.

Television spy thrillers frequently grow larger until every season becomes an international catastrophe. This series has managed to increase the danger without losing the damaged personalities and miserable workplace dynamics that made Slough House entertaining in the first place.

The darker tone only works if Jackson Lamb remains funny enough to cut through it.

Oldman does not seem particularly worried about that.

Monster Hunter Wilds Shows Off Ascendance

Capcom released another look at Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance, focusing on changes and expanded actions for the Hunting Horn. The major expansion continues Capcom’s post-launch development of Wilds across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PC and Switch 2.

Monster Hunter expansions are rarely minor additions.

Iceborne and Sunbreak substantially changed how their base games were discussed, and Ascendance now has similar expectations surrounding it.

Weapon-specific previews may not be enormous standalone announcements, but they matter because Monster Hunter players often spend hundreds of hours identifying with one weapon class.

If the Hunting Horn feels materially different, that affects an entire segment of the community.

Melty Blood: Twi-Lumina Arrives in April

French-Bread and Type-Moon will release Melty Blood: Twi-Lumina on April 22, 2027 across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, Switch 2 and PC.

Melty Blood occupies an unusual position where the audience is relatively specialized but deeply committed.

Launching across essentially every active platform maximizes the chances of keeping that fighting-game community together instead of fragmenting it unnecessarily.

Switch 2 being there from day one is becoming increasingly unsurprising.

That may be the most significant recurring gaming theme of September.

What to Watch: Physical 100 Heads to Italy

Netflix launched Physical 100: Italy on September 11, marking the first European edition of the Korean competition format. The season brings together 100 athletes, celebrities and competitors inside a series of increasingly punishing physical challenges.

Physical 100 has one of the easiest international formats Netflix owns because almost none of its appeal depends on cultural translation.

People understand immediately what it means when extremely athletic contestants are asked to drag, lift, hold or survive something ridiculous. Italy is therefore less a remake than another roster. If this version works, there is almost no obvious limit to how many countries Netflix can cycle through.

SCP Foundation and The Mandela Catalogue became valuable because communities built them before Hollywood arrived. Point Break is moving in the opposite direction, with studios digging back into a property audiences already know.

One strategy creates familiarity from the bottom up. The other tries to reactivate it from the top down. The next few years will show which approach audiences actually reward.
