Bill Skarsgård leads Kojima’s PHYSINT, GTA VI gets an official album and Sam Raimi joins a 99 Nights in the Forest movie.
Tokyo Game Show helped turn Thursday into one of the busiest gaming-news days of the week, but two of the most interesting stories reached well beyond traditional game announcements.
Bill Skarsgård has been revealed as the lead of Hideo Kojima’s PHYSINT, Rockstar is giving Grand Theft Auto VI its own official album and 99 Nights in the Forest is already being developed as a feature film with Sam Raimi producing. It’s the Bandwagon Nerds News Report for September 18, 2026!
Bill Skarsgård Will Lead Hideo Kojima’s PHYSINT
Bill Skarsgård will portray the lead character in PHYSINT, Hideo Kojima’s upcoming espionage project now being published by Xbox Game Studios. The casting announcement arrived during Tokyo Game Show and gives the project its first major on-screen identity after Microsoft took over publishing from Sony earlier this month.
Skarsgård is an interesting choice because Kojima increasingly approaches casting as part of world-building rather than simply celebrity marketing. Death Stranding made recognizable actors inseparable from its visual identity, and PHYSINT appears positioned to continue that approach.
The larger story remains the platform shift. A project originally introduced as Kojima’s major return to PlayStation-style espionage now has an Xbox publisher and a recognizable lead actor, making it one of the stranger high-profile development stories of the generation.
Grand Theft Auto VI Is Getting an Official Album
Rockstar Games and Atlantic Records announced Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album, an official music release tied to the upcoming game. The announcement expands GTA VI’s marketing beyond trailers and gameplay while continuing the series’ long history of making music a central part of its identity.
Grand Theft Auto has always treated music differently from most games because radio stations are not merely background noise. They help establish the era, geography and personality of the world players inhabit for hundreds of hours.
An official album turns that relationship into something Rockstar can sell outside the game itself. GTA VI is increasingly being treated less like a single software release and more like a broader entertainment launch.
Sam Raimi Is Producing a 99 Nights in the Forest Movie
The popular game 99 Nights in the Forest is being adapted into a feature film written by Josh Cooley and produced by Sam Raimi. The project is still early in development, but the involvement of Raimi gives another internet-driven game property a surprisingly prominent path into Hollywood.
This is becoming one of the most interesting adaptation trends in entertainment. Studios are no longer waiting for a game to become a decades-old franchise before asking whether it can support a movie.
They are increasingly watching where younger audiences already spend time and moving quickly when something develops a recognizable community. That strategy carries obvious risk, but it also prevents Hollywood from always arriving 15 years after a property mattered most.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Shows Its Campaign
Activision and Infinity Ward released the campaign trailer for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 during the Tokyo Game Show cycle. The game is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2 and PC, continuing Call of Duty’s expansion onto Nintendo’s newest hardware.
The Switch 2 version remains one of the most important pieces of the announcement. Call of Duty appearing alongside PlayStation, Xbox and PC versions from the start reinforces how quickly Nintendo has changed its relationship with major third-party publishers.
The campaign itself still matters because Modern Warfare remains one of Activision’s strongest narrative brands. Multiplayer drives the long-term engagement, but the campaign is where the franchise has historically built the characters and imagery that survive beyond each annual release.
Persona 4 Revival Introduces Naoto Shirogane
Atlus released a new Persona 4 Revival trailer focused on Naoto Shirogane. The remake is scheduled for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2 and PC as Atlus continues gradually reintroducing the Investigation Team to a new generation.
Character trailers make particular sense for Persona because the cast is as important as the combat or dungeon systems. Players remember the relationships around Inaba at least as vividly as they remember the murders driving the story.
Naoto is also one of the more complicated characters to revisit in a modern remake. Atlus will be watched closely for how faithfully it retains the original themes while deciding whether any presentation needs updating nearly two decades later.
Netflix Orders Another Dark Comedy From the Dead to Me Team
Netflix has ordered All the Rage, a new dark comedy from Liz Feldman and Kelly Hutchinson. The project reunites collaborators from Dead to Me and extends Feldman’s creative relationship with Netflix.
That creative continuity is valuable because Netflix has historically struggled to make every successful series feel like the beginning of a larger relationship with its creators. Feldman becoming somebody the service repeatedly builds projects around moves closer to the traditional television model where a successful showrunner becomes a long-term asset.
Dark comedy also remains an especially natural streaming genre. It can be distinctive enough to generate conversation without demanding blockbuster production costs.
MobLand Returns for Season 2 Today
MobLand Season 2 premieres today on Paramount+ with Tom Hardy, Helen Mirren and Pierce Brosnan returning. The new season follows the Harrigan family attempting to maintain a unified front while their criminal empire faces new external threats and increasingly dangerous internal divisions.
The show’s first season proved that audiences still have plenty of appetite for crime dramas when the cast and personalities are strong enough. Hardy remains the obvious center of gravity, but Mirren and Brosnan gave the series enough texture to avoid becoming another generic gangster show.
Season 2 now has the harder job of proving the premise can sustain itself once the novelty of that cast disappears. Successful streaming dramas increasingly need more than one big opening season because audiences have become very comfortable moving on.
What to Watch: A Crowded Streaming Weekend
This weekend’s streaming lineup includes MobLand Season 2 on Paramount+, the recently launched sixth season of Slow Horses on Apple TV, Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story on Netflix and the new Reacher spinoff Neagley on Prime Video.
That combination makes this one of those weekends where the competition is less about whether there is something worth watching and more about which subscription gets opened first. Every major platform wants at least one recognizable show anchoring the beginning of fall television.
Thursday’s announcements showed the same competition happening in games. PHYSINT is becoming an Xbox centerpiece, GTA VI is expanding beyond the game itself and familiar franchises continue rushing toward Switch 2.
The boundaries between games, movies, music and television keep getting less useful. The properties that matter most are increasingly expected to exist wherever audiences already are.
