Microsoft’s gaming restructuring is getting deeper.
Xbox laid off another 268 employees while shifting several major studios beneath new organizational umbrellas, including a move that puts Activision over the next Halo project. Disney went in a considerably more nostalgic direction by announcing a new Darkwing Duck series for Disney+.

Xbox Cuts 268 Jobs and Reshuffles Major Studios
Xbox laid off 268 employees Tuesday as Microsoft continued restructuring its gaming division. Halo Studios, Rare and World’s Edge are moving under Activision, Obsidian Entertainment will move under Bethesda Softworks, and Playground Games and Turn 10 Studios are being combined.
The Halo move is easily the most surprising part because Activision is no longer simply another publisher living inside Microsoft Gaming. Giving it organizational control over studios tied to Halo, Age of Empires and Rare demonstrates how much influence Activision has gained since the acquisition.
The layoffs remain the much uglier side of that consolidation. Restructuring may create cleaner reporting lines on paper, but hundreds of employees are again paying the immediate price for Microsoft’s continuing effort to remake the Xbox business.
Darkwing Duck Is Coming Back to Disney+
Disney is developing a new Darkwing Duck animated series for Disney+, with Mark Hamill and Seth Rogen among the voice cast. Lizzy Caplan, Dan Stevens and Kathryn Newton are also attached, with Sean Tretta and Borja Peña Gorostegui serving as executive producers.
Darkwing Duck has remained one of Disney television animation’s more durable cult properties despite never receiving the volume of revivals given to some larger brands. A Disney+ continuation gives the character a better opportunity than another cameo-driven revival.
The casting also suggests Disney is not approaching this as a cheap nostalgia project. Bringing in recognizable performers gives the series a chance to build something new around the original premise rather than simply reproducing early-1990s television.
Middle-earth: Shadow Bundle Heads to Switch 2
Aspyr announced Middle-earth: Shadow Bundle for Switch 2, combining Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War in one package. The release brings Monolith’s Nemesis System-driven games to Nintendo hardware as publishers continue moving older AAA catalogs onto Switch 2.
The games remain notable largely because the Nemesis System still has surprisingly few real imitators. Enemies remembering encounters and developing individual histories with the player made otherwise familiar open-world structures feel much more personal.
Switch 2 is becoming a particularly good home for this kind of catalog release. Publishers can revive games that no longer need cutting-edge hardware while still presenting them to a large audience that may never have played them originally.
Robert Eggers Will Make Romeo & Juliet
Robert Eggers is set to direct a new adaptation of Romeo and Juliet for Focus Features after the studio won a bidding war involving A24, Sony and Warner Bros. The project will become Eggers’ next film.
Eggers is an interesting fit because his films usually treat historical environments as something physical and uncomfortable rather than decorative. Romeo and Juliet has been adapted endlessly, so another version needs a point of view stronger than simply casting new actors.
The question becomes what period Eggers chooses and how aggressively he leans into the violence, religion and social structures surrounding the romance. His version is unlikely to treat Verona as a pretty backdrop.
Rayman Legends Retold Shows Six Minutes of Gameplay
Ubisoft released a six-minute overview trailer for Rayman Legends Retold, providing a longer look at how the remake is updating environments, movement and presentation ahead of its December 3 release.
Rayman Legends remains one of Ubisoft’s best-reviewed games, which makes the remake both appealing and slightly strange. The original still plays extremely well, so Retold has to offer more than visual polish to justify replacing something that never felt particularly dated.
The extended trailer at least suggests Ubisoft understands that problem. The new version appears interested in expanding presentation without interfering with the movement and level rhythm that made Legends work.
Coyote vs. Acme Crosses $100 Million
Coyote vs. Acme has crossed $100 million at the worldwide box office after surviving one of the strangest release histories in recent Hollywood memory. Warner Bros. originally shelved the completed movie before Ketchup Entertainment eventually acquired and released it.
The number matters because the movie is no longer simply an internet cause célèbre. Audiences actually showed up once they were given the opportunity, turning a discarded project into a legitimate theatrical success.
That does not mean every canceled movie secretly has $100 million waiting for it. It does mean studios should be careful about assuming an accounting decision can accurately measure whether an audience exists.
Tuesday’s entertainment cycle was largely about ownership and resurrection. Microsoft keeps consolidating how Xbox operates, Disney is bringing Darkwing Duck back and Aspyr is finding new life for older Middle-earth games.
Even Coyote vs. Acme fits the theme. Sometimes a property survives because somebody decided there was still value left in it after somebody else had already moved on.
