Jennifer Lawrence joins The Flood, Amazon nears a Spider-Man Clone Saga series and Xbox introduces Mythic Achievements.
Tuesday’s entertainment cycle delivered a strong mix of major franchise development, a notable new sci-fi project and a gaming feature Xbox players have been asking for in one form or another for years.
Jennifer Lawrence has joined Zach Cregger’s next major genre film, Amazon is moving closer to a Spider-Man television series built around the Clone Saga, and Warner Bros. has put a date on its Aegon’s Conquest movie. Xbox also introduced Mythic Achievements, while Netflix unveiled a new Matthew Perry documentary series with extensive participation from people who knew him personally.
It’s the Bandwagon Nerds News Report for September 30, 2026!
Jennifer Lawrence Will Star in Zach Cregger’s The Flood
Jennifer Lawrence is set to star in The Flood, the next sci-fi thriller from director Zach Cregger. Warner Bros. and New Line are developing the project, continuing Cregger’s rise as one of the more closely watched filmmakers working in genre movies right now.
Cregger’s name carries considerably more weight after Barbarian and Weapons because both films proved he could sell original horror concepts without leaning on established franchises. Pairing him with Lawrence immediately pushes The Flood into a different commercial category.
Lawrence has spent much of her recent career moving between prestige films, comedy and more character-focused projects. Putting her at the center of a large-scale Cregger genre movie creates a combination that does not immediately resemble anything either of them has done recently, which makes the project more interesting than another familiar reboot or sequel announcement.
Spider-Man’s Clone Saga May Be Headed to Television
Amazon is reportedly nearing a green light on a live-action Spider-Man universe series based on Marvel’s Clone Saga. The project would focus on Ben Reilly and Kaine, two characters whose histories are deeply tied to Peter Parker and one of the most complicated storylines in Spider-Man comics.
The Clone Saga has an infamous reputation because the 1990s comic storyline became enormous, convoluted and notoriously difficult to resolve. That does not make it bad material for adaptation, though. A television version has the opportunity to strip away decades of continuity and preserve the central idea: what happens when someone who believes he is Peter Parker discovers there may be another version of him?
Ben Reilly in particular has long looked like a character built for adaptation outside the main Peter Parker movies. He carries all of the familiar Spider-Man abilities and emotional baggage while giving Sony and Amazon room to tell a story that does not require another retelling of Peter’s origin.
Xbox Introduces Mythic Achievements
Xbox Insiders can now begin testing Mythic Achievements, a new status awarded when a player completes all of a game’s original achievements. DLC and later-added achievements do not count toward the requirement, meaning players will not lose Mythic status simply because a game receives more content later.
The feature is also retroactive. Eligible Xbox 360 and later games that players already completed can automatically receive Mythic status, while Xbox profiles now include a Gaming tab showing completed titles, achievement progress and upcoming Gamerscore milestones.
This is essentially Xbox finally giving completionists a more visible equivalent to PlayStation’s Platinum Trophy without simply copying the exact trophy structure. Gamerscore has always rewarded accumulating achievements across an entire library, but it never provided one universally recognizable marker showing that a specific game had been completed.
Making the system retroactive is probably the smartest part. Xbox has more than two decades of achievement history, and forcing longtime players to start from zero would have undermined the entire idea.
Game of Thrones: Aegon’s Conquest Gets a 2029 Release Date
Warner Bros. has dated Game of Thrones: Aegon’s Conquest for 2029, giving the proposed feature film a theatrical target even though casting and production details remain limited.
The story centers on Aegon Targaryen’s conquest of Westeros alongside his sisters Visenya and Rhaenys, one of the foundational events behind the political structure audiences eventually encounter in Game of Thrones. It is also exactly the kind of story that lends itself naturally to a large theatrical production because dragons and full-scale warfare are built into the premise from the beginning.
Moving Game of Thrones into theaters is a meaningful expansion of the franchise. HBO has already demonstrated that George R.R. Martin’s world can sustain multiple television eras, but a theatrical film creates different expectations for scale, pacing and accessibility.
Aegon’s conquest is also a sensible entry point because viewers do not need deep knowledge of the original series to understand the basic story. A warlord with dragons unifying seven kingdoms is about as straightforward a pitch as Westeros is likely to provide.
Netflix Announces The One About Matthew Perry
Netflix announced The One About Matthew Perry, a three-part documentary series premiering October 27. The project is directed by Emmy winner Mary Robertson and examines Perry’s career, personal life, addiction struggles and advocacy work through interviews with people who knew him closely.
The series includes previously unreleased family photographs and videos along with testimony from Perry’s sister Mia Perry Bowick, lifelong friends and professional collaborators. Participants include former NBC Entertainment president Warren Littlefield, Kevin Pollak and people who worked with Perry throughout different stages of his career.
The title obviously references Friends, but Netflix appears to be deliberately building the documentary around more than Chandler Bing. Perry spent years publicly discussing addiction and recovery, and that advocacy became almost as central to his later public identity as the sitcom that made him famous.
Family participation gives the series an opportunity to move beyond another collection of celebrity interviews. The strongest version of this documentary will be the one that treats Perry as a full person rather than reducing his life either to Friends nostalgia or to the circumstances surrounding his death.
The Little Prince Is Getting Another Live-Action Adaptation
A new live-action adaptation of The Little Prince is in development with The Imitation Game director Morten Tyldum attached to direct and Slumdog Millionaire writer Simon Beaufoy working on the screenplay.
Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s book has been adapted repeatedly across animation, film, television and stage productions, but its structure has always made a conventional live-action version difficult. The story works through metaphor and philosophical conversation as much as it does through plot.
That is exactly why another adaptation can still make sense. The Little Prince is familiar enough that filmmakers do not need to spend much time explaining why it matters, but unusual enough that every version can interpret its imagery differently.
The real challenge will be resisting the temptation to turn something deliberately simple into a gigantic visual-effects spectacle. The book’s power comes from how small and direct many of its ideas are, and any new movie will need to preserve that intimacy even if the production itself becomes much larger.
Spider-Man may be moving into clone mythology without Peter Parker necessarily sitting at the center of everything. Game of Thrones is preparing to become a theatrical property, while The Little Prince is heading back into live action despite already having decades of adaptations behind it.
Xbox’s Mythic Achievements are almost the opposite kind of story. Instead of creating something entirely new, Microsoft is finally giving players a clearer way to celebrate accomplishments they may have earned years ago.
That is a pretty good summary of where entertainment sits right now. The industry is constantly searching for the next thing, but sometimes the smartest move is figuring out how to make something familiar feel valuable again.
