One of gaming’s strangest hallway walks has quietly become a multimillion-selling success.
The Exit 8 crossed three million copies sold Sunday, a feature documentary about Minecraft creator Technoblade is moving forward with support from Riot Games and Hypixel Studios, and a newly announced indie game wants players to literally walk inside the works of Van Gogh, Monet and Klimt.
It’s the Bandwagon Nerds News Report for September 7, 2026!
The Exit 8 Passes Three Million Sales
The Exit 8 has surpassed three million copies sold worldwide. The anomaly-spotting escape game originally launched on PC before expanding to consoles, including Nintendo Switch, PlayStation and Xbox platforms.
Three million is an impressive number for a game whose central mechanic is essentially walking through the same underground passage repeatedly while deciding whether something looks wrong.
That simplicity became the attraction rather than the limitation.
The Exit 8 created a format that works perfectly for streaming, reaction videos and conversations between players because the entire experience revolves around observation. Somebody watching immediately understands what is happening even if they have never touched the game.
The success is another reminder that a clean idea can occasionally outperform a mountain of features.
Technoblade Never Dies Documentary Enters Production
A feature documentary titled Technoblade Never Dies is now in production with the involvement of the late Minecraft creator’s family. Riot Games and Hypixel Studios are supporting the project, which is being directed by Steven Lake and produced by Candle True Stories. The filmmakers are currently accepting community videos, artwork and animation for possible inclusion in the documentary.
Technoblade’s story is inseparable from the community around him, which makes the decision to actively involve that community more than a marketing exercise.
The Minecraft creator, whose real name was Alexander, died from cancer in 2022 after building an enormous audience through a combination of competitive Minecraft videos, humor and an unusually strong relationship with his viewers.
A traditional biography could document those numbers. The harder task is explaining why people remained emotionally connected to him.
Inviting those people into the production gives the filmmakers a much better chance.
CaTHaRSiS Lets Players Walk Through Famous Paintings
Kodansha and developer Mana announced CaTHaRSiS: The last of atelier, an immersive PC adventure built around exploring worlds inspired by famous paintings. Players move through environments based on works from artists including Vincent van Gogh, Claude Monet and Gustav Klimt while controlling an unidentified character accompanied by a wolf and an owl.
There are no game-over screens or time limits. The experience is designed to last roughly the length of a feature film and emphasize exploration over traditional challenge.
That makes CaTHaRSiS difficult to categorize and considerably more interesting because of it.
Games have spent decades recreating cities, battlefields and fantasy landscapes. Turning individual paintings into explorable spaces asks a completely different question: what exists outside the frame?
It could become little more than an attractive walking simulator. It could also become one of those short games people remember precisely because nothing else feels quite like it.
Rain World Gets a Complete Physical Collection
Rain World Anthology will launch February 18, 2027 for PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2. The physical collection includes the original Rain World along with the Downpour and The Watcher expansions, with both standard and collector’s editions planned.
The collector’s version adds an art book, Slugcat scarf, acrylic items and other physical extras. Rain World has developed the kind of passionate cult audience that makes a release like this viable long after the original game arrived.
Its survival ecosystem remains deliberately hostile and often frustrating, but that difficulty is also what separates it from more conventional platformers.
Packaging the complete experience together makes sense for Switch 2 in particular, where physical collectors have become unusually vocal about wanting complete games rather than downloads attached to mostly empty cartridges.
Airframe Ultra Sets a November Release
VIDEOCULT and Akupara Games will release vehicular combat racer Airframe Ultra on November 5 for PC through Steam, Epic Games Store and GOG. The game combines high-speed hover racing with melee weapons, online multiplayer and split-screen competition.
The obvious comparison is a collision between futuristic racing and something much dirtier.
Instead of pristine anti-gravity machines floating through neon cities, Airframe Ultra looks deliberately rough and dangerous. Racers can attack one another with pipes, chains and plasma torches while navigating the streets of Megacity West.
Split-screen may be the most appealing feature. Local multiplayer has become less common even as games have become more technically sophisticated. A racing game built around physically sabotaging the person sitting beside you feels refreshingly old-fashioned.
Avengers: Doomsday Started Filming Without a Finished Script
Joe and Anthony Russo revealed that Avengers: Doomsday entered production without a completed screenplay. Joe Russo described the script as a “living organism,” explaining that the directing team prefers to incorporate ideas that emerge during rehearsals and from actors once the massive ensemble comes together.
That explanation will probably make some Marvel viewers nervous.
Doomsday is not a small improvisational drama. It is one of the largest movies Marvel Studios has attempted, bringing together Avengers, Fantastic Four, X-Men characters and Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom after the company completely reworked its original Kang-centered plans.
At the same time, the Russos previously managed Infinity War and Endgame, two films that somehow coordinated enormous casts without collapsing under their own weight.
The unfinished-script detail is either a warning sign or simply an unusually transparent description of how massive studio movies actually get made.
PAX West Heads Into Its Final Day
PAX West concludes Monday in Seattle after four days of playable demos, panels, tournaments and developer presentations. The event followed directly behind Gamescom, providing a more hands-on showcase for many of the games that spent August living primarily through trailers and stage presentations.
The timing has created an unusually dense stretch for gaming. Gamescom supplied the enormous reveals. PAX gave players a chance to touch many of the games themselves. Nintendo then takes over Tuesday and Wednesday with consecutive Direct presentations.
There is effectively no break between announcement season and release season this September.
That may be the defining theme of the month. The Exit 8 continues showing what a focused idea can accomplish, CaTHaRSiS is experimenting with what a video game environment can even be and Rain World is getting another life because its audience never stopped caring about it.
The biggest franchises will still dominate the calendar, especially with Avengers and Nintendo looming over the week ahead. Some of the most interesting stories continue coming from projects that would have sounded far too strange to pitch as blockbusters in the first place.
