Chicago scores 59, Josh Allen rallies Buffalo past Houston and the Giants beat Dallas as Week 1 delivers a wild Sunday.

The first full Sunday of the NFL season did not ease into anything.

Chicago scored 59 points in the highest-scoring Week 1 game in league history, Josh Allen drove Buffalo 96 yards for a late victory in Houston and the Giants gave John Harbaugh a win in his New York debut by beating Dallas on Sunday Night Football.

Week 1 still has one game remaining, with Denver visiting Kansas City tonight.

Bears Drop 59 on Carolina

Chicago defeated Carolina 59-37 in the highest-scoring Week 1 game in NFL history. Caleb Williams accounted for four touchdowns, throwing for 269 yards and two scores while adding another 65 yards and two touchdowns on the ground, and D’Andre Swift rushed for 124 yards and three touchdowns.

The score was tied 31-31 during the third quarter before Chicago completely broke the game open. That is the encouraging part for the Bears because the offense did not simply feast on an opponent that never threatened them; it responded after Carolina matched nearly everything for more than half the afternoon.

Williams looked particularly comfortable once the game accelerated. Chicago has spent two years constructing an offense around him, and Week 1 offered the clearest evidence yet of what that investment is supposed to become.

Josh Allen Steals One in Houston

Buffalo defeated Houston 36-31 after Josh Allen led a seven-play, 96-yard drive and hit Joshua Palmer for the go-ahead 34-yard touchdown with 1:36 remaining. Allen finished with 334 passing yards, two passing touchdowns and two rushing scores, while Greg Rousseau forced the C.J. Stroud fumble that ended Houston’s final possession.

Houston spent most of the afternoon showing why it entered the season with championship expectations. The Texans repeatedly forced Buffalo to answer, and David Montgomery immediately justified his arrival by producing three touchdowns.

Allen ultimately provided the difference. Buffalo has spent several seasons watching close playoff-caliber games turn on whether its quarterback can create something extraordinary, and the opening Sunday produced another example of exactly that.

Giants Beat Dallas in John Harbaugh’s Debut

The New York Giants defeated Dallas 28-20 behind three touchdown passes from Jaxson Dart. Isaiah Likely caught two of those scores, while Cam Skattebo rushed for 81 yards and a touchdown as New York controlled possession for more than 36 minutes.

Malik Nabers also made his return from last season’s ACL and meniscus injuries after spending the week openly questioning whether he felt ready. Simply getting through the opener without the return becoming the story is a positive first step for both Nabers and the Giants.

For Dallas, the concern is less about losing one divisional game than how little rhythm the offense established. The Cowboys spent the offseason aggressively reshaping portions of the roster, but New York dictated pace and possession for most of the night.

Minnesota Rallies After Kyler Murray Leaves

Minnesota defeated Green Bay 39-22 after scoring the final 29 points of the game. Kyler Murray left his Vikings debut with a concussion, but Carson Wentz responded by completing 12 of 19 passes for 133 yards and three touchdowns while Justin Jefferson finished with eight catches for 92 yards and two scores.

The comeback is impressive, but Murray’s status immediately becomes the story entering Week 2. Minnesota built its offseason around changing the quarterback position, and losing him during the first game would force the Vikings into an adjustment much earlier than planned.

Wentz showed why experienced backup quarterbacks still carry value. He did not merely preserve a lead; he entered a game Minnesota was losing and helped completely reverse it.

Detroit Survives New Orleans in Overtime

Detroit defeated New Orleans 31-30 in overtime after Jared Goff found Amon-Ra St. Brown for the go-ahead touchdown. Tyler Shough answered with a touchdown pass to Noah Fant, but the Saints failed on the ensuing two-point conversion and Detroit escaped.

Shough’s 410 passing yards and three touchdowns gave New Orleans a legitimate chance despite three turnovers. Chris Olave also produced 182 receiving yards, which makes the loss frustrating because the Saints generated enough offense to win most weeks.

Detroit will care much less about aesthetics. Week 1 often exposes rust and communication problems, and the Lions survived one of those games without allowing a dangerous opponent to steal it.

Jacksonville Buries Cleveland

Trevor Lawrence threw four touchdown passes as Jacksonville beat Cleveland 34-10. The Jaguars built a 31-0 advantage before easing off late, while Cleveland quarterback Deshaun Watson was sacked five times and committed multiple turnovers.

Jacksonville could hardly have drawn up a cleaner opening performance. Ten different Jaguars caught passes, Lawrence distributed the ball efficiently and the defense prevented Cleveland from sustaining anything meaningful until the game had effectively been decided.

The Browns leave Week 1 with the opposite problem. The quarterback conversation never really disappears in Cleveland, and an opener like this guarantees it will get louder immediately.

Baltimore Rolls as Derrick Henry Keeps Climbing

Baltimore beat Indianapolis 41-23 behind three rushing touchdowns from Derrick Henry. Henry ran for 144 yards and moved into third place on the NFL’s all-time rushing touchdowns list, while Lamar Jackson threw for 324 yards and added a rushing score.

The Ravens looked exactly like the version of themselves opponents hoped might finally start slowing down. Henry remains capable of controlling games physically, while Jackson continues forcing defenses to account for too many dimensions at once.

Zay Flowers leaving with a hamstring injury is the obvious concern after his career-high 150 receiving yards. Baltimore can absorb many things offensively, but losing the receiver who was dominating before he left would alter the passing game considerably.

Monday Night Football: Broncos at Chiefs

Week 1 concludes tonight with Denver visiting Kansas City at Arrowhead Stadium. Patrick Mahomes has been removed from the injury report, setting up a divisional opener between a Chiefs team still carrying championship expectations and a Denver team trying to establish itself as something more than an AFC West spoiler.

Denver Broncos at Kansas City Chiefs – 8:15 PM ET

Kansas City remains the measuring stick in the division until somebody consistently proves otherwise. Denver does not need Monday to define its entire season, but winning at Arrowhead would immediately change how seriously the rest of the conference treats the Broncos.

The Chiefs enter with the opposite burden. Every season begins with the expectation that anything short of another deep playoff run represents disappointment, which makes even a Week 1 divisional matchup feel more consequential than it probably should.

The first full Sunday produced everything from a 96-point track meet in Carolina to an overtime finish in Detroit and another divisional win for the Giants over Dallas. Monday night’s Denver-Kansas City matchup remains the only Week 1 game still to be played.

Week 1 immediately gave us several things worth tracking beyond the standings. Chicago’s offense looks capable of becoming one of the league’s most dangerous units, Buffalo already needed Allen to deliver another late masterpiece and Minnesota may be facing a quarterback question depending on Murray’s concussion status.

The results also punished several offseason narratives quickly. Los Angeles was dismantled in Australia, Dallas lost a game New York controlled physically and Cleveland looked nowhere near ready to compete with Jacksonville.

One game never tells the entire story, but it finally gives us something better than projection. The NFL spent six months telling us what these teams could become, and Week 1 has started showing which versions might actually be real.
