Jayden Daniels Injury

Dak Prescott breaks Dallas’ touchdown record, Jayden Daniels dislocates his elbow and Patrick Mahomes leads Kansas City to an overtime win.

Sunday gave Dallas something to celebrate and Washington something potentially much more serious to worry about.

Dak Prescott became the Cowboys’ all-time leader in touchdown passes during a 37-20 win, but Jayden Daniels left with a dislocated elbow. Kansas City needed overtime to remain unbeaten, Caleb Williams suffered a non-contact hamstring injury and Seattle and San Francisco both moved to 2-0 with dominant wins.

It’s the Chairshot NFL News Report for September 21, 2026!

Dak Prescott Sets the Cowboys Touchdown Record

Dak Prescott threw four touchdown passes as Dallas beat Washington 37-20, with his final scoring throw to CeeDee Lamb moving him past Tony Romo for the most touchdown passes in Cowboys history. Prescott finished 26-of-31 for 279 yards, while Lamb produced 153 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

Dallas needed the response after losing its opener to the Giants. The Cowboys were much cleaner offensively this time, with Prescott controlling the game and avoiding the kind of empty possessions that made Week 1 so frustrating.

The record also reinforces how much Prescott has accumulated during a career that is often discussed primarily through postseason disappointment. Passing Romo does not resolve any larger playoff debate, but it places Prescott alone atop one of the franchise’s most important statistical categories.

Jayden Daniels Suffers a Dislocated Elbow

Washington quarterback Jayden Daniels dislocated his left elbow on the final play of the first half against Dallas. Initial X-rays showed no fracture, but Daniels will undergo additional imaging after injuring the same non-throwing arm that caused him problems during the 2025 season.

The circumstances make the injury especially painful for Washington. The Commanders had the ball at the Dallas 1 with three seconds remaining and chose to chase a tying touchdown rather than take a field goal, only for Daniels to be stepped on before trying to keep the play alive.

Marcus Mariota finished the game, but the larger concern has nothing to do with Week 2. Daniels is the centerpiece of everything Washington is building, and Monday’s imaging will matter considerably more than the 0-2 record.

Mahomes and Kansas City Survive in Overtime

Kansas City defeated Indianapolis 33-30 in overtime after Harrison Butker kicked a 40-yard field goal as time expired. Patrick Mahomes threw for 382 yards and three touchdowns, while Kenneth Walker III added 178 yards from scrimmage as the Chiefs improved to 2-0.

The game reinforced why Kansas City’s new running-game dimension matters. Mahomes still needed to make plays late, but Walker gave the offense enough balance that Indianapolis could not simply sit back and wait for the quarterback to solve every down.

The Colts fall to 0-2 despite another competitive performance, extending their losing streak to nine games dating to last season. Close losses eventually become their own problem when a team repeatedly fails to finish.

Caleb Williams Leaves With a Hamstring Injury

Chicago quarterback Caleb Williams suffered a non-contact right hamstring injury during the fourth quarter of the Bears’ 9-3 loss to Minnesota. Head coach Ben Johnson said the initial concern was a knee injury and expressed relief that it was not, but the severity of the hamstring problem will not be known until further evaluation.

The injury capped an enormous reversal for Chicago after scoring 59 points in Week 1. Minnesota kept the Bears out of the end zone entirely, and Williams finished with 138 passing yards before Tyson Bagent replaced him.

The offensive collapse is secondary for the moment. Chicago needs to know whether the quarterback who defines its season is dealing with a short interruption or something capable of changing the next several weeks.

San Francisco Looks Terrifying at 2-0

San Francisco beat Miami 35-13 behind an almost flawless performance from Brock Purdy. Purdy completed 20 of 22 passes for 287 yards, threw two touchdowns and ran for another, while Christian McCaffrey scored twice and reached 100 career touchdowns.

The 49ers scored touchdowns on their first five possessions, something the franchise had not done since 1991. That follows the 27-7 dismantling of the Rams in Australia, giving San Francisco two of the most convincing performances anywhere in the league through two weeks.

Miami moves in the opposite direction at 0-2. The Dolphins have now been outplayed decisively twice, and the concern is shifting quickly from early-season rust toward whether this roster can actually compete with high-level teams.

Seattle Crushes Arizona Behind Smith-Njigba

Seattle beat Arizona 31-7 as Jaxon Smith-Njigba caught nine passes for 155 yards and three touchdowns. Drew Lock again started for the injured Sam Darnold and completed 19 of 26 passes for 235 yards without an interception.

The result is important because Seattle has now gone 2-0 despite losing Darnold during the opener. Lock is not being asked to reinvent the offense, and Smith-Njigba’s ability to dominate coverage has made that transition considerably easier.

Arizona managed only 151 total yards. The Cardinals were competitive through halftime before Seattle completely took control, which makes this more than a disappointing divisional loss.

New Orleans Stuns Baltimore

The Saints rallied from a 14-3 deficit to beat Baltimore 24-17, with Tyler Shough throwing for 252 yards and scoring the winning touchdown on a one-yard run with 1:28 remaining. Julian Blackmon intercepted Lamar Jackson on Baltimore’s final possession to seal the comeback.

New Orleans has now played two extremely competitive games after nearly stealing the opener in Detroit. This time the Saints finished, which changes the early impression from “interesting but winless” to a team capable of making opponents uncomfortable every week.

Baltimore will be frustrated by scoring only three second-half points. The Ravens still have enough offensive talent to overwhelm most teams, but Sunday demonstrated how quickly that advantage disappears when the passing game loses its rhythm.

Green Bay Steals an Overtime Win

Green Bay erased a 17-7 fourth-quarter deficit and beat the Jets 20-17 in overtime on rookie Trey Smack’s 26-yard field goal. Jordan Love threw two touchdown passes despite the Packers producing only 199 total yards and converting just one of nine third downs.

This was the kind of ugly game Green Bay lost too often last season. Fourteen Packers penalties, five fumbles and a stagnant offense gave the Jets repeated opportunities to finish the game, but the defense kept the deficit manageable long enough for Love to create the comeback.

The win came with potentially serious injuries to Jayden Reed and Zach Bako-Bewele. Both situations will require follow-up Monday before Green Bay can feel entirely good about escaping New Jersey.

NFL Week 2 Scores

Sunday produced two overtime games, several convincing blowouts and major injuries to both Jayden Daniels and Caleb Williams. The Giants and Rams close the week Monday night in Los Angeles.

Week 2 clarified several early-season stories quickly. San Francisco and Seattle both look capable of carrying major expectations, Kansas City has survived two very different kinds of games and Cincinnati quietly moved to 2-0.

The more important Monday conversations may revolve around the quarterbacks who did not finish Sunday. Daniels and Williams are both central to franchises attempting to build around them, and their medical updates could alter far more than one Week 3 matchup.
