Will Ospreay survives David Finlay, Rebel makes an emotional AEW appearance and Andrade gets attacked as All Out takes shape.
Rebel Heart Dynamite delivered exactly what the name promised Wednesday night.
AEW honored Rebel during an emotional show in Athens, Georgia, while Will Ospreay survived David Finlay in an eliminator match, Andrade El Idolo retained the National Championship and several All Out stories moved forward around them.
It’s the Chairshot Wrestling News Report for September 10, 2026!
Will Ospreay Survives David Finlay
AEW World Champion Will Ospreay defeated David Finlay in a World Championship Eliminator Match on Rebel Heart Dynamite, preventing Finlay from earning a future title opportunity. The match came as Ospreay continues toward his already-established All Out defense against Jon Moxley.
This was useful because Finlay did not need to become another immediate challenger to make the match worthwhile.
Ospreay is still settling into the position of being the person everybody is trying to knock off instead of the wrestler chasing somebody else. An eliminator match gives AEW another way to make television opponents matter without constantly expanding the pay-per-view title picture.
Finlay also brings a different physicality than many of the opponents normally associated with Ospreay. The champion getting through that test keeps his post-All In momentum intact while the Moxley problem continues getting closer.
Rebel Makes an Emotional Appearance
Rebel appeared during Wednesday’s special episode benefiting I AM ALS and Team Gleason following her ALS diagnosis. She participated during The Waiting Room segment with Britt Baker and later handed Baker her gloves during the six-woman tag match, helping create the emotional centerpiece of the night.
The show worked because AEW did not treat Rebel as a distant subject of a tribute package.
She was there. She interacted with people she has worked with for years, became part of the wrestling itself and received the kind of reaction that made the relationship between her and the locker room obvious.
That carried even more weight only days after Andy Williams died. AEW has spent much of this week dealing with very real reminders that the people behind the characters matter considerably more than whatever storyline happens to be running. Rebel Heart Dynamite understood that.
Andrade Retains Before The Dogs Attack
Andrade El Idolo defeated Beast Mortos to retain the AEW National Championship, but the celebration ended when The Dogs attacked him after the match. Will Ospreay eventually came out to make the save.
That creates an interesting overlap between two wrestlers who could eventually become opponents.
Andrade still possesses the World Championship opportunity he earned at All In. Ospreay knows that contract exists every time he helps him, stands beside him or ends up anywhere near him. AEW does not need Andrade to cash in immediately for that tension to work.
For now, The Dogs give both men a common problem. The more interesting question is whether that cooperation survives once Andrade decides the championship opportunity is more important than the alliance.
Swerve and The New Level Retain the Trios Titles
Swerve Strickland, Kofi and Austin Creed successfully defended the AEW World Trios Championship against Orange Cassidy, Kyle O’Reilly and Roderick Strong on Wednesday.
The New Level went from surprise debut to championship team almost immediately at All In, so the next step had to be proving the belts were more than part of the debut spectacle. Beating The Conglomeration accomplishes that.
Kofi and Creed already carried enormous tag-team credibility into AEW. Pairing them with Swerve gives the group a different identity than simply recreating something they did elsewhere, and successful title defenses are how AEW starts establishing that identity on its own terms.
Darby Allin and Steven Borden Get the Win
Darby Allin and Steven Borden defeated Josh Alexander and Mark Davis on Dynamite, continuing Borden’s involvement in AEW after his recent appearances around All In and Collision.
Borden has moved from being part of a Sting-adjacent surprise into somebody actually participating in AEW stories, and that distinction matters.
His connection to Darby makes sense historically, but AEW will eventually need to establish what Steven Borden is when the audience is not thinking primarily about his father. Working alongside Darby provides a useful bridge without immediately forcing him into a singles program he may not be ready to carry.
Young Bucks Head Toward a Tables Match
Wednesday’s Dynamite also set up a Tables Match between The Young Bucks and Kyle Fletcher and Kevin Knight following the continued conflict between the teams. The stipulation fits where the rivalry has gone.
The Bucks rarely need much justification to turn a standard tag match into something chaotic, while Fletcher and Knight have been presented as increasingly willing to match that aggression.
AEW’s tag division has become crowded again with the Motor City Machine Guns entering the picture, which makes distinct programs especially valuable. This one now has a clear identity separate from whatever comes next in the championship chase.
RevPro Owner Reconsiders Pulling Leon Slater Match From MyAEW
RevPro owner Andy Quildan said he has reconsidered his decision not to air Leon Slater’s match against Liam Slater on the MyAEW pay-per-view feed during RevPro’s 14th Anniversary show. Quildan originally held the match back because Leon Slater is contracted to TNA and he wanted to avoid creating potential issues by having him appear on an AEW-branded streaming service. He now says RevPro may have made the wrong call.
This is a small story that says something larger about the modern wrestling landscape. Wrestlers move between promotions more freely than they have in years, but the streaming platforms, partnerships and corporate relationships around those wrestlers can still create invisible boundaries.
Quildan was trying to protect the talent and the relationship rather than create controversy. The fact that he is openly reconsidering the decision shows how complicated those choices have become.
Fans see a wrestling match. Promoters sometimes see three contracts, two streaming relationships and a problem nobody intended to create.
TripleMania 34 Is Almost Here
AAA will present the first night of the two-night TripleMania 34 this Friday from the Luxor Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, followed by Night 2 Sunday from Arena CDMX in Mexico City. WWE released the updated cards Wednesday as the combined WWE-AAA Mexico stretch continues.
TripleMania Night 1 includes:
- La Hiedra vs. Roxanne Perez
- Fraxiom vs. Los Americanos vs. Tokyo Bad Boys vs. The LWO – Fatal 4-Way Tag Team Elimination Match
- Mascarita Sagrada, Mini Vikingo & Adelicious vs. Jack Cartwheel, Mini Abismo Negro & Lady Shani
TripleMania Night 2 includes:
- AAA Mega Championship – Dominik Mysterio (c) vs. El Grande Americano
- AAA Reina de Reinas Championship – Flammer (c) vs. La Catalina
- AAA World Tag Team Championship Open Challenge – War Raiders (c) vs. TBD
- Mexican Street Fight – Psycho Clown vs. El Carnicero
- AAA World Cruiserweight Championship Fatal 4-Way – Rey Fenix (c) vs. Nathan Frazer vs. Jack Cartwheel vs. Mini Vikingo
- Copa Bardahl – Competitors TBD
The two-night structure is a significant experiment for AAA, especially with the opening night taking place in Las Vegas before the promotion returns to Mexico City.
WWE’s involvement has changed TripleMania from something wrestling audiences outside Mexico occasionally checked in on into a much more integrated piece of the company’s larger schedule.
This weekend will show how far that integration can go without stripping AAA of the identity that makes the event worth expanding in the first place.
AEW Dynamite Results — September 9, 2026
Rebel Heart Dynamite combined an emotional tribute show with several important post-All In developments.
- AEW World Trios Championship – Swerve Strickland, Kofi & Austin Creed (c) defeated Orange Cassidy, Kyle O’Reilly & Roderick Strong
- Britt Baker, Persephone & Hikaru Shida defeated Maya World, Hyan & Thunder Rosa
- AEW National Championship – Andrade El Idolo (c) defeated Beast Mortos
- Darby Allin & Steven Borden defeated Josh Alexander & Mark Davis
- AEW World Championship Eliminator – Will Ospreay defeated David Finlay
Wednesday succeeded because the wrestling never completely overwhelmed the reason the show existed. Rebel Heart Dynamite still advanced Ospreay, Andrade, Swerve and several All Out programs, but the emotional center remained Rebel and the people surrounding her.
AEW has major business to handle over the next several weeks. Ospreay has Moxley waiting, Andrade continues carrying a championship opportunity that could change everything and the tag division is getting deeper by the week.
Wednesday was a reminder that there are nights when those stories can move forward without needing to be the most important thing in the building.
