Sami Zayn regained the Undisputed WWE Championship from CM Punk in Mexico City, Omos defeated Rey Mysterio in Las Vegas to remain part of AAA and Roxanne Perez earned a future Reina de Reinas Championship opportunity.

Sami Zayn Regains the WWE Championship

Sami Zayn defeated CM Punk in Friday’s SmackDown main event to regain the Undisputed WWE Championship. The match descended into chaos involving Johnny Gargano, Candice LeRae and Kevin Owens before Zayn ultimately hit Punk with the Helluva Kick to secure his second reign.

The result makes the last several weeks of Sami’s behavior considerably more interesting.

He spent weeks insisting Punk had taken something from him, sabotaging title matches and forcing himself into the championship conversation. Friday validated the obsession, even if the victory itself came through exactly the kind of disorder Zayn helped create.

Kevin Owens’ involvement also ensures the title change does not provide a clean resolution. Punk has an argument for a rematch, Owens has unresolved issues with both men and Johnny Gargano continues hovering around the championship picture.

Sami got the championship back. He did not get peace with it.

Omos Defeats Rey Mysterio and Remains in AAA

Omos defeated Rey Mysterio in the TripleManía 34 Night 1 main event, earning reinstatement to AAA. Dominik Mysterio and El Grande Americano became involved during the match before Omos finally put Rey away with a chokeslam. Omos continued the assault afterward, including another chokeslam while Mysterio was strapped to a medical backboard.

AAA has officially committed to Omos as more than a visiting WWE attraction.

Beating Rey Mysterio in the main event of TripleManía immediately establishes him as one of the promotion’s primary villains, while the post-match attack ensures this does not feel like a one-night celebrity-style attraction.

The pairing with Dominik also gives Omos a much stronger character context than simply being the largest man on the roster.

Roxanne Perez Becomes No. 1 Contender

Roxanne Perez defeated Nattie, Faby Apache and La Hiedra in a Fatal 4-Way at TripleManía to become the next challenger for the AAA Reina de Reinas Championship. Perez secured the victory with Pop Rox and is scheduled to receive her championship opportunity at Worlds Collide on September 26.

Roxanne continues to be used differently from a typical WWE crossover talent. She is not simply appearing on AAA cards to provide name recognition. WWE and AAA are giving her tangible stakes and allowing those appearances to affect future cards.

That makes Worlds Collide more meaningful because the match now exists as a direct consequence of TripleManía rather than being assembled independently.

The only unresolved question is who Roxanne will actually face, as Flammer still has to survive Sunday.

Los Perros del Mal Win the AAA World Trios Championship

Los Perros del Mal defeated Los Psycho Circus to become the new AAA World Trios Champions, ending a reign that lasted nearly two years. El Carnicero became involved during the match and drew Psycho Clown away from the action, allowing Daga, Angel and Berto to take advantage and capture the titles.

The title change works because it simultaneously advances Sunday’s Psycho Clown-El Carnicero fight.

Psycho did not simply abandon his partners for no reason. Carnicero dragged him into another conflict, and that decision directly cost Psycho Circus the championships.

That gives Sunday’s Mexican Street Fight considerably more weight. The match is no longer simply about personal hostility. Psycho enters it knowing Carnicero helped end a 663-day championship reign.

Chelsea Green Survives Nia Jax

Chelsea Green retained the Interim WWE Women’s Championship against Nia Jax on SmackDown, with Tiffany Stratton helping neutralize the outside involvement surrounding the match. Green continues wrestling while wearing protective gear following her orbital fracture.

Green getting through the defense is important because the championship story can finally move beyond whether she is physically capable of defending it. The injury created a built-in deadline and an obvious target for challengers.

Now that she has actually defended the championship, WWE can start treating her as an active titleholder again rather than somebody temporarily preserving the belt while recovering.

Rey Fenix Retains, Then Ricky Saints Turns on Him

Rey Fenix successfully defended the AAA Cruiserweight Championship against Ricky Saints on SmackDown. Saints initially appeared to accept the loss before later attacking Fenix backstage, keeping the rivalry alive beyond the championship match.

That is a better direction than immediately running the same match again.

Saints losing cleanly creates a reason for frustration, while the backstage attack moves the issue away from simply arguing about who deserved the championship.

Fenix can now respond to something personal. The championship remains central without being the only reason the rivalry exists.

Rey Mysterio Says Aalyah Has Begun Training at NXT

Rey Mysterio revealed that his daughter Aalyah has started training at the WWE Performance Center while discussing the future of the Mysterio family. Rey said Aalyah has found the process challenging but is progressing, and he expressed interest in potentially sharing a ring with both Dominik and Aalyah before the end of his own career.

That creates a fascinating possibility because Aalyah has already been part of WWE television without being presented as a wrestler.

The Mysterio family has essentially grown alongside WWE programming for more than two decades. Dominik went from appearing as a child during Rey’s stories to becoming one of the company’s most recognizable heels.

Aalyah following a similar path would make the family’s WWE history even stranger and more unique. There is still a massive difference between training and making television. The possibility alone is worth watching.

The first night gave Sunday consequences instead of simply functioning as a separate card.

Friday changed several stories at once, but Sami Zayn regaining the championship is the development everything else will orbit around.

His argument was always that Punk had taken something that belonged to him. Now that he has it back, WWE gets to test what happens when the grievance disappears but all the enemies created during the chase remain.

AAA accomplished something similar with Omos. He entered TripleManía fighting for permission to remain in the company and left having beaten Rey Mysterio in the main event.
