Roman Reigns survives Penta in Mexico City, Lola Vice qualifies for Money in the Bank and Judgment Day attacks WWE’s newest champions.
Mexico City spent Monday night believing.
Penta pushed Roman Reigns deep into one of the World Heavyweight Champion’s toughest television defenses, but Reigns ultimately escaped Arena CDMX with the title. Elsewhere, Lola Vice made an immediate impact in her Raw in-ring debut, Je’Von Evans punched his Money in the Bank ticket and Judgment Day found a new collection of enemies in Stephanie Vaquer, El Grande Americano and Rey Mysterio.
It’s the Chairshot Wrestling News Report for September 15, 2026!
Roman Reigns Survives Penta in Mexico City
Roman Reigns defeated Penta to retain the World Heavyweight Championship in a 22-minute Raw main event. Penta received an elaborate entrance and overwhelming hometown support, injured Reigns’ right arm with the Sacrifice and came within a near fall after a springboard Mexican Destroyer before Reigns caught a later springboard attempt with a Superman Punch and finished the challenger with a Spear.
WWE did not need Penta to win for the match to accomplish something meaningful. He entered Raw as somebody who had earned a title opportunity through a tournament and left having proved he could carry a major WWE main event against Roman Reigns without the audience treating him like temporary filler.
The Mexico City crowd elevated every near fall because there was genuine belief that WWE might follow Sami Zayn, Stephanie Vaquer and El Grande Americano’s recent championship wins with another major surprise. Reigns surviving that environment only strengthens the champion, but Penta came out of the loss feeling more significant than he did entering it.
Judgment Day Ruins Vaquer and Americano’s Celebration
New Women’s World Champion Stephanie Vaquer and new AAA Mega Champion El Grande Americano teamed against Liv Morgan and Dominik Mysterio after both former champions interrupted the opening segment. Vaquer and Americano appeared ready to finish the match before Judgment Day attacked for the disqualification, then continued beating down Vaquer, Americano and the injured Rey Mysterio afterward.
WWE smartly connected two championship changes that happened outside normal Raw television. Vaquer won her title at a live event in Chile, while Americano dethroned Dominik at TripleManía. Putting them together allowed Raw to immediately make both developments part of an ongoing television story.
Morgan and Dominik also have stronger motivation now than simply being angry former champions. Both lost gold during WWE’s Latin American stretch, and Judgment Day’s response was to make sure the people replacing them could not enjoy the moment for long.
Lola Vice Qualifies for Money in the Bank in Her Raw Debut
Lola Vice defeated Women’s Intercontinental Champion Raquel Rodriguez and NXT Women’s Champion Kelani Jordan in a Triple Threat qualifier during her Raw in-ring debut. Vice avoided Rodriguez’s big boot, which instead knocked Jordan from the apron, then rolled up Rodriguez to earn a place in the Women’s Money in the Bank Ladder Match.
That is a strong way to introduce Vice to the main roster because WWE gave her an accomplishment instead of simply giving her a showcase victory over somebody with little standing. She defeated two champions in the same match and pinned the main-roster champion to do it.
Vice now joins Sol Ruca in Money in the Bank, immediately putting another newer face into a match traditionally used to accelerate somebody’s position. Whether this represents a permanent Raw move or an extended crossover becomes much more interesting after Monday.
Chad Gable Makes Dragon Lee Submit
Intercontinental Champion Chad Gable successfully defended against Dragon Lee, forcing the challenger to submit to the ankle lock after nearly 16 minutes. Gable embraced Lee afterward and acknowledged both his opponent and the Mexico City crowd.
The post-match respect added something to a match that otherwise could have existed simply because WWE wanted another Mexican star challenging in Mexico City. Gable did not steal the victory or need outside interference; he survived Lee’s offense and won decisively.
That keeps Gable’s championship reign moving without diminishing Lee. Fifteen competitive minutes against an established champion does more for a challenger than a protected loss surrounded by distractions.
Je’Von Evans Earns His Money in the Bank Spot
Je’Von Evans defeated Austin Theory and Big Cass in a Triple Threat qualifier to advance to the Men’s Money in the Bank Ladder Match. Evans used a neckbreaker that sent Theory into Cass before hitting Cass with the OG Cutter for the deciding pinfall.
Evans has spent months moving from developmental prospect toward somebody WWE increasingly trusts in important situations. Money in the Bank gives him a showcase perfectly suited to the athleticism that made him stand out in the first place.
More importantly, qualifying against Theory and Cass keeps the victory from feeling ceremonial. Evans did not receive a developmental exemption into the match; he beat two established main-roster opponents to get there.
Grayson Waller Says Australia Became His Main-Roster Low Point
NXT Champion Grayson Waller said during an appearance on Cheap Heat that one of the lowest points of his WWE main-roster run came when the company held three shows in Australia last year without finding a meaningful role for him. Waller said he ultimately wrestled Rey Fenix on Main Event and felt vindicated by receiving one of the loudest reactions of the night, but admitted the experience left him frustrated and motivated to prove WWE had underestimated him.
The perspective makes Waller’s return to NXT more interesting because he is not presenting it as a demotion he reluctantly accepted. He is describing the main-roster experience as something that stalled badly enough that returning to NXT gave him an opportunity to rebuild his value.
Winning the NXT Championship has already changed that conversation. Waller now has a defined role again, and his comments suggest that getting back to the main roster eventually matters less than making sure WWE has an actual reason to use him once he gets there.
WWE Raw Results — September 14, 2026
Raw’s return to Mexico City featured two championship matches, two Money in the Bank qualifiers and immediate fallout from Stephanie Vaquer and El Grande Americano’s championship victories over the weekend.
- El Grande Americano & Stephanie Vaquer defeated Dominik Mysterio & Liv Morgan by disqualification
- Men’s Money in the Bank Qualifier – Je’Von Evans defeated Austin Theory and Big Cass
- Intercontinental Championship – Chad Gable (c) defeated Dragon Lee
- Women’s Money in the Bank Qualifier – Lola Vice defeated Raquel Rodriguez and Kelani Jordan
- World Heavyweight Championship – Roman Reigns (c) defeated Penta
WWE’s extended Mexico stretch ended without the enormous final surprise the Arena CDMX crowd wanted, but it accomplished something more sustainable than simply changing another championship. Penta proved he belongs in WWE’s upper-card conversation, Vice immediately became relevant and the company successfully connected the TripleManía and Chile live-event title changes directly back into Raw.
The next step is making sure those developments continue once WWE leaves Mexico. International shows work best when they change stories rather than becoming isolated spectacle, and Monday created several threads that can easily travel back home with the roster.
