WWE retires both Speed titles, the Creed Brothers return to NXT, Grayson Waller gets a line of challengers and Tessa Blanchard joins MLW.

NXT left Heatwave with several new champions. By the end of Tuesday night, it also had two fewer championships.

WWE officially retired the men’s and women’s Speed titles, Julius and Brutus Creed made a surprise return to NXT and Grayson Waller discovered that winning the NXT Championship was considerably easier than convincing the rest of the roster to wait patiently for a shot at it.

Outside WWE’s developmental system, Tessa Blanchard also revealed where the next chapter of her career will begin.

WWE Retires the Men’s and Women’s Speed Championships

NXT General Manager Robert Stone officially retired both WWE Speed Championships on Tuesday. Women’s North American Champion Zaria, who defeated Women’s Speed Champion Wren Sinclair and Kali Armstrong in Sunday’s unification match at Heatwave, chose to continue defending the North American Championship and surrendered the Speed title. Stone then informed Lexis King that the men’s Speed Championship was also being discontinued.

The Speed concept never fully established where it belonged once WWE moved away from treating the matches as a distinct social-media product. Folding the championships into NXT created another pair of belts in a system already carrying plenty of them.

Zaria’s Heatwave victory provided WWE with an easy way out. Rather than maintaining two secondary championships for the women and finding another purpose for the men’s version, the company used the unification match to simplify the entire structure.

The result leaves NXT with fewer championships competing for television time and makes Zaria’s Women’s North American Championship more important rather than forcing her to walk around carrying two belts that largely served the same purpose.

Creed Brothers Return to NXT

Julius and Brutus Creed made a surprise return to NXT following the tag-team match between Noam Dar and Romeo Moreno against Sean Legacy and Dorian Van Dux. Dar and Moreno won the match, but the Creed Brothers hit the ring afterward and attacked both teams.

The Creeds returning to the environment where they originally established themselves gives NXT an experienced team capable of immediately disrupting a division that changed at Heatwave.

The Vanity Project regained the NXT Tag Team Championship on Sunday, but Tuesday made clear that the division will not simply revolve around another conventional chase. Julius and Brutus have already been through NXT’s developmental process and arrive with main-roster experience, which makes them fundamentally different from most teams trying to climb the division.

Attacking everyone instead of choosing an immediate rival also keeps their direction open. The Creeds did not return looking for a reunion tour. They returned looking for territory.

Everybody Wants Grayson Waller’s NXT Championship

Grayson Waller’s first NXT appearance as champion ended with Saquon Shugars, Cruz Montana, EK Prosper, Mason Rook, Tony D’Angelo and Keanu Carver all confronting him. Carver proposed a six-man tag match for next week, with the winning team advancing to a Triple Threat match the following week to determine Waller’s first challenger. Robert Stone approved the plan before a brawl closed the show.

Waller spent his return criticizing NXT’s roster for becoming comfortable. Winning the championship gave everyone he insulted a very simple way to answer him.

The contender format also allows NXT to keep several wrestlers involved without immediately committing to one challenger. D’Angelo has a legitimate argument for a rematch, Montana came close to winning at Heatwave, and Carver, Prosper, Shugars and Rook all need opportunities to establish themselves closer to the top of the card.

Waller wanted attention when he came back to NXT. He now has considerably more than he probably wanted.

Zilla Fatu Gets His First NXT Victory

Zilla Fatu defeated Tristan Angels on Tuesday to earn his first NXT victory. Fatu opened the show acknowledging that he failed to win the NXT Championship at Heatwave but said becoming champion was only a matter of time. After the match, BirthRight attempted to recruit Fatu, but he rejected the group and attacked Lexis King.

Heatwave established that WWE is willing to put Zilla near the top of NXT immediately. Tuesday was about making sure the loss did not send him backward.

Rejecting BirthRight is equally important because Fatu already enters WWE carrying a family identity that can overwhelm anything else attached to him. Immediately putting him into another faction would risk making his character about association before the audience learns what separates him from everybody else in his family.

The better path is allowing Zilla to establish himself independently and letting those family connections matter when the story actually requires them.

Anthony Bowens’ AEW Contract Reportedly Nears Expiration

Anthony Bowens’ AEW contract is reportedly scheduled to expire within the next month, according to Fightful Select. Bowens remains with AEW as the company moves into its post-All In television cycle, but his longer-term status has become a question entering September.

Bowens has gone through several different stages in AEW, from The Acclaimed becoming one of the company’s most organically popular acts to the eventual breakup and his attempt to establish a singles identity.

That makes the timing interesting. AEW has to determine whether there is a meaningful next stage for Bowens beyond revisiting what already worked with The Acclaimed, while Bowens has to decide whether that opportunity exists more clearly inside AEW or somewhere else.

Contract stories do not guarantee departures. They do reveal moments when both sides have to decide how much they still see in the relationship.

Tessa Blanchard Is Heading to MLW

Tessa Blanchard is joining Major League Wrestling and will make her debut at MLW Fightland on September 12 in Charleston, South Carolina. Blanchard confirmed the move during an interview with TMZ’s Inside the Ring and has already indicated that she intends to pursue MLW Women’s World Champion Shotzi.

Blanchard has spent the months following her TNA departure without a regular United States promotion, and MLW gives her an immediate platform without requiring either side to pretend the history surrounding her does not exist.

Going directly after Shotzi also makes more sense than easing Blanchard into the promotion through unrelated matches. She remains a former TNA World Champion whose name carries recognition well beyond MLW’s regular audience, so presenting her as anything other than an immediate threat would feel artificial.

For MLW, the signing adds another recognizable name to a women’s division built around Shotzi. For Blanchard, it provides another opportunity to make the wrestling itself the primary conversation surrounding her career.

AEW Dynamite Begins the Post-All In Era

Wednesday’s Dynamite from Allen, Texas will feature Will Ospreay’s first appearance as AEW World Champion following his victory over Kenny Omega at Wembley Stadium. New AEW Women’s World Champion Mercedes Moné will hold a championship celebration, while Swerve Strickland, Kofi and Austin Creed will make their first defense of the AEW World Trios Championship against The Rascalz.

All In created the kind of reset that makes the first television show afterward particularly important. Ospreay is no longer chasing the position at the center of AEW; he occupies it. Mercedes finally owns the championship that had remained outside her collection, while Kofi and Creed went from surprise debuts to defending champions within days.

The next challenge is turning the spectacle of Wembley into stories capable of sustaining weekly television. Dynamite begins that process Wednesday.

Tuesday’s NXT began establishing the new hierarchy created at Heatwave while introducing several immediate challengers and returning faces.

The Heatwave fallout did more than celebrate new champions. WWE eliminated two championships entirely, brought the Creed Brothers back into the developmental ecosystem and created a multi-week process to determine who gets the first opportunity against Grayson Waller.

Zilla Fatu also continues moving rapidly through the system. He went from making his NXT in-ring debut in a championship match Sunday to winning Tuesday and rejecting a faction attempting to recruit him, which makes WWE’s intentions with him increasingly difficult to miss.

Meanwhile, the addition of Tessa Blanchard to MLW is exactly the kind of development that can get lost during weeks dominated by WWE and AEW. MLW now has another recognizable name entering its women’s division, and Blanchard has a new American home with a championship target already identified.

Wednesday shifts the attention to AEW, where All In created new champions and new expectations. Wembley supplied the moments; Dynamite now has to establish what those moments changed.
