Chairshot Wrestling News Report (9/6/2026): Andy Williams Collapses, Andrade Retains & Cody Battles Orton

Andy Williams collapses at an independent wrestling event, Andrade retains on Collision and Cody Rhodes battles Randy Orton at Sunday Night’s Main Event.
Saturday night produced a frightening scene outside the major promotions when Andy Williams, better known to AEW audiences as The Butcher, collapsed following a match for Enjoy Wrestling and required emergency medical attention.
AEW also continued establishing its post-All In landscape, with Andrade El Idolo keeping both his championship and his larger opportunity intact while the Motor City Machine Guns made their AEW tag-team debut.
Sunday shifts the spotlight back to WWE, where Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton headline Sunday Night’s Main Event in Atlanta and Bron Breakker meets Oba Femi in one of the more interesting heavyweight clashes WWE can put together right now.
It’s the Chairshot Wrestling News Report for September 6, 2026!
Andy Williams Collapses at Enjoy Wrestling Event
Andy Williams, known in AEW as The Butcher, suffered a medical emergency Saturday night while wrestling alongside longtime partner The Blade for Enjoy Wrestling at Mr. Small’s Theatre in Millvale, Pennsylvania. Williams collapsed at the conclusion of the match, with medical personnel immediately tending to him and administering CPR until an ambulance arrived. Enjoy Wrestling ended the event early while Williams was transported to the hospital.
Williams and The Blade were facing TME when the situation occurred. Eyewitness accounts provided to POST Wrestling described Williams appearing to be in distress toward the end of the match before going down outside the ring. Medical personnel used chest compressions and an AED as those in attendance helped clear a path for emergency responders.
There was no definitive public update on Williams’ condition at the time this report was prepared, making speculation about what caused the incident inappropriate. The important thing is that medical personnel were present, treatment began immediately and Williams was transported to a hospital.
Everything involving wrestling takes a distant second place when something like this happens. We’re hoping for encouraging news regarding Williams and will update the story when more reliable information becomes available.
Note: This item is up-to-date as of overnight reports at 3 AM eastern time.
Andrade Retains and Keeps His World Title Contract
Andrade El Idolo defeated Gabe Kidd on Collision to retain the AEW National Championship. Andrade also remains in possession of the AEW World Championship opportunity he earned by winning the Casino Gauntlet at All In, giving him the ability to choose when he pursues Will Ospreay.
That situation gives AEW something much more useful than another immediate title challenge.
Andrade already has the world-title opportunity secured. Letting him continue defending another championship while waiting for the right moment makes the contract part of the background of every appearance without forcing Ospreay into another challenger immediately after Jon Moxley.
It also creates natural tension whenever Andrade is around the World Champion. He does not need to attack Ospreay every week for the audience to understand what he eventually intends to do.
Motor City Machine Guns Win Their AEW Tag Team Debut
Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin defeated The Swirl’s Blake Christian and Lee Johnson in the Motor City Machine Guns’ first match together inside an AEW ring.
AEW has no shortage of tag teams, which means Shelley and Sabin cannot simply rely on reputation once the novelty of their arrival wears off.
The advantage is that very few teams arrive with the Motor City Machine Guns’ résumé. Their history stretches across TNA, New Japan, WWE and the independent scene, and AEW can immediately position them against established teams without needing a long developmental climb.
The Young Bucks, FTR and several other AEW teams already have years of history with Shelley and Sabin outside the company. AEW now gets to decide which pieces of that history it wants to revisit.
Persephone Begins Her TBS Championship Reign With a Win
Persephone successfully defended the TBS Championship against VertVixen on Collision, scoring her first successful defense since winning the title at All In. Britt Baker was present as Persephone continued establishing herself in the new championship role.
Persephone leaving Wembley with the TBS Championship immediately changed her position inside AEW’s women’s division.
The important step now is making the championship reign more than the surprising moment when she won it. Successful television defenses help establish that All In was the beginning of something rather than simply a vehicle for a title change.
AEW also has several available directions around Persephone, allowing the company to build challengers without immediately returning to the same matchup that produced the championship change.
Chris Jericho Turns on Nick Wayne
Nick Wayne defeated Komander on Collision, but the larger development came afterward when Chris Jericho appeared and attacked Wayne with the Judas Effect.
Jericho attacking Wayne creates a fresh direction without requiring either man to be attached to a championship.
Wayne has spent enough time positioned as a prodigy that eventually confronting established veterans was inevitable. Jericho is especially useful because the story can operate around respect, ego and generational resentment rather than simply becoming another title chase.
The attack also gives Wayne something he has not had consistently: a program where he is expected to stand on his own instead of being defined primarily by the people surrounding him.
Mickie James Says She Nearly Quit Before Her WWE Debut
Mickie James revealed that she was considering walking away from WWE shortly before her 2005 main-roster debut. James explained that she had spent approximately two years in OVW, watched other developmental wrestlers get released and became frustrated as Diva Search participants moved quickly through developmental and onto television while she remained uncertain about her own future.
The timing makes the story fascinating in hindsight because Mickie’s debut led directly into one of the defining women’s rivalries of WWE’s mid-2000s era with Trish Stratus.
Developmental wrestling has always involved long periods where talent has very little control over when an opportunity arrives. Mickie’s experience illustrates how close WWE came to losing somebody who would eventually become a six-time women’s champion before the company ever presented her to its television audience.
There is also something useful about hearing that perspective immediately after WWE’s latest developmental releases. Careers that eventually look inevitable rarely felt that way while they were actually happening.
Sunday Night’s Main Event Comes to Atlanta
WWE presents Sunday Night’s Main Event tonight from State Farm Arena in Atlanta, headlined by Cody Rhodes against Randy Orton. The card also includes Bron Breakker against Oba Femi, a six-woman tag match and a five-minute challenge involving United States Champion Baron Corbin and Lil Yachty.
- Cody Rhodes vs. Randy Orton
- Bron Breakker vs. Oba Femi
- Charlotte Flair, Alexa Bliss & Tatum Paxley vs. Jade Cargill, Michin & B-Fab
- Baron Corbin vs. Lil Yachty – If Lil Yachty lasts five minutes, Trick Williams earns a United States Championship match later in the night
- Quavo performs live
The Rhodes-Orton match has the deepest history, but Breakker against Femi may be the most revealing match on the card. WWE has spent years positioning both men as foundational pieces of its future, and putting them across from each other offers an unusually direct comparison.
Cody and Orton operate from the opposite end of the spectrum. Their history stretches back nearly two decades, allowing WWE to build the match around something that cannot be recreated through a few weeks of television.
The Lil Yachty angle is clearly designed as the entertainment crossover portion of the show, but tying his survival directly to Trick Williams receiving another championship opportunity at least gives the celebrity involvement a wrestling consequence.
AEW Collision Results — September 5, 2026
Saturday’s Collision featured two championship defenses and the AEW tag-team debut of the Motor City Machine Guns while continuing the company’s post-All In direction.
- The Young Bucks defeated Brian Cage & Jake Doyle
- Hangman Page & Brodido defeated Braddah Kaimi, LBJ & Vin Parker
- Nick Wayne defeated Komander
- TBS Championship – Persephone (c) defeated VertVixen
- Motor City Machine Guns defeated The Swirl
- AEW National Championship – Andrade El Idolo (c) defeated Gabe Kidd
- ROH Women’s World Championship Proving Ground – Athena defeated Isla Dawn
- Kyle Fletcher & Kevin Knight defeated Juice Robinson & Ace Austin
The Williams situation understandably hangs over everything else from Saturday night. Wrestling can move quickly from entertainment to something much more serious, and the immediate medical response at the Enjoy Wrestling event was far more important than anything happening inside a storyline.
AEW still produced several useful developments on Collision. Andrade remains dangerous because of the championship opportunity he has not yet used, Persephone is beginning the work of establishing her title reign and the Motor City Machine Guns immediately entered a tag division filled with potential opponents.
WWE takes over Sunday with a card built around two very different ideas. Rhodes and Orton bring nearly 20 years of history, while Breakker and Femi represent two wrestlers WWE appears to believe could define its next decade.
Those stories can resume Sunday night. Until then, the most important development from Saturday is Andy Williams’ health, and hopefully the next update is a positive one.
