Chairshot Wrestling News Report (9/9/2026): Wren Snaps, Thea Taps Zaria & Rebel Heart Arrives
Wren Sinclair attacks Kelani Jordan, Thea Hail taps Zaria, three men advance toward Grayson Waller and AEW presents Rebel Heart Dynamite.
Wren Sinclair attacks Kelani Jordan, Thea Hail taps Zaria, three men advance toward Grayson Waller and AEW presents Rebel Heart Dynamite.
NXT spent Tuesday night creating problems for nearly every champion on the roster.
Kelani Jordan retained the NXT Women’s Championship only to be attacked by Wren Sinclair, Thea Hail made Women’s North American Champion Zaria submit in non-title action and three contenders moved one step closer to Grayson Waller.
Wednesday brings a much different atmosphere as AEW presents Rebel Heart Dynamite in Athens, Georgia, benefiting organizations fighting ALS.
It’s the Chairshot Wrestling News Report for September 9, 2026!
Kelani Jordan Retains, Then Wren Sinclair Snaps
Kelani Jordan successfully defended the NXT Women’s Championship against Jaida Parker, hitting the One of a Kind Moonsault after Parker crashed into the corner. The celebration ended quickly when Wren Sinclair attacked Jordan with a kendo stick and later struck a referee during the aftermath, leading General Manager Robert Stone to suspend Sinclair.
Jordan’s first defense accomplished exactly what it needed to before the attack. Parker pushed the new champion without WWE immediately undoing the Heatwave title change, while Sinclair emerged from the background with a reason to matter.
The suspension makes the attack feel more consequential than another post-match beatdown. Whenever Wren returns, WWE already has the next chapter waiting rather than needing to rebuild the confrontation from scratch.
Thea Hail Makes Zaria Tap
Thea Hail defeated NXT Women’s North American Champion Zaria in a non-title match by submission Tuesday. Zaria had spent the evening emphasizing her dominance following the retirement of the Speed Championship, only for Hail to derail that momentum by forcing the champion to tap.
Non-title victories can become lazy shortcuts when they happen constantly, but this one has a clear purpose.
Zaria entered the night having effectively consolidated WWE’s secondary women’s championship picture around herself. Hail immediately demonstrated that being the champion does not mean the division has run out of legitimate problems.
The submission matters even more than a flash pin. Hail did not steal a victory; she forced the champion to surrender, which gives her an obvious argument for a championship match.
Tony D’Angelo, Mason Rook and Saquon Shugars Advance
Tony D’Angelo, Mason Rook and Saquon Shugars defeated Cruz Montana, EK Prosper and Keanu Carver in Tuesday’s six-man main event. The victory means D’Angelo, Rook and Shugars will meet in a Triple Threat match next week, with the winner earning the first NXT Championship opportunity against Grayson Waller.
WWE has taken a deliberately crowded route toward Waller’s first challenger, but the remaining three choices are different enough to make the final step interesting.
D’Angelo has the strongest claim based on his previous championship position. Shugars represents somebody WWE has been steadily moving upward, while Rook created the decisive moment Tuesday by tagging himself into the match and taking control.
Waller can spend another week mocking all three. After that, somebody finally gets to make him defend the championship he has been enjoying talking about.
Jackson Drake Survives Tavion Heights
Jackson Drake retained the NXT North American Championship against Tavion Heights despite suffering an apparent foot injury during the match. Drake eventually connected with a 450 Splash to keep the title, while Myles Borne afterward expressed regret over the recent problems between himself and Heights.
Drake escaping with the championship keeps Vanity Project’s momentum intact, but the Borne-Heights portion may have the longer runway.
NXT has already announced that Borne will publicly apologize to Heights next week. Wrestling apologies rarely produce peaceful resolutions, especially when the relationship already collapsed badly enough to cost them championships.
Whether the apology is sincere almost matters less than whether Heights believes it.
BirthRight Puts Zilla Fatu Through a Table
BirthRight overwhelmed Zilla Fatu after Charlie Dempsey addressed Fatu’s decision to reject the group. Dempsey, Lexis King, Channing “Stacks” Lorenzo, Uriah Connors and Arianna Grace ultimately left Fatu laid out after sending him through a table.
Zilla choosing not to join BirthRight last week was the easy part. Tuesday showed what rejecting them actually costs.
That is a stronger direction than simply placing Fatu into another faction because it forces him to establish himself against an organized group rather than benefiting from one.
WWE has presented Zilla as physically dangerous from the beginning. Now NXT gets to test whether that presentation still works when five people are specifically organized around stopping him.
Tate Wilder Broke His Way Onto WWE’s Radar
NXT prospect Tate Wilder revealed that WWE first became interested in him after he went viral while playing college football at Arizona State. Wilder, whose real name is Case Hatch, told All City Wrestling that he broke three facemasks in three consecutive games during his junior year, leading WWE officials to notice the story and invite him to WrestleMania 38 in Texas.
That is about as literal a transition from football physicality into professional wrestling as WWE could ask for.
Wilder did not come through the system because somebody spotted a wrestling match on the independents. WWE saw an athlete generating attention by repeatedly breaking equipment during Pac-12 football games and decided there might be something worth exploring.
The story also shows how much WWE’s recruiting system has changed. College athletes no longer need to independently decide they want to become wrestlers first. WWE is actively looking for unusual athletic traits and personalities that might translate.
Breaking three facemasks apparently qualifies.
AEW Presents Rebel Heart Dynamite
AEW presents a special Rebel Heart edition of Dynamite tonight from Akins Ford Arena in Athens, Georgia. The event will honor Tanea Brooks, better known as Rebel, following her ALS diagnosis earlier this year, with proceeds benefiting I AM ALS and Team Gleason. Rebel is scheduled to appear during the event.
The show takes on additional emotional weight following the death of Andy Williams.
Kevin Knight said this week that both Rebel and Williams have been on the AEW roster’s minds heading into Wednesday. What was already designed as a night centered around supporting somebody from the AEW family now arrives days after that same locker room lost another one of its original members.
AEW has built charitable elements directly into the event rather than simply attaching Rebel’s name to a themed episode. That includes donations to ALS organizations and merchandise whose profits support the cause.
Sometimes the wrestling card is not the most important part of a wrestling show. Wednesday feels like one of those nights.
WWE NXT Results — September 8, 2026
Tuesday’s NXT established several championship challengers while continuing the fallout from Heatwave.
- NXT Women’s Championship – Kelani Jordan (c) defeated Jaida Parker
- The Creed Brothers defeated Noam Dar & Romeo Moreno
- NXT North American Championship – Jackson Drake (c) defeated Tavion Heights
- Thea Hail defeated Zaria
- Tony D’Angelo, Mason Rook & Saquon Shugars defeated Cruz Montana, EK Prosper & Keanu Carver
NXT did a good job Tuesday of making championship divisions feel active without changing another collection of belts immediately after Heatwave. Jordan and Drake retained, but neither left the night without another issue waiting for them. Zaria did not even need to defend her championship for Thea Hail to establish a legitimate claim.
The NXT Championship picture has also been narrowed from six wrestlers to three. Waller can continue enjoying his role as the obnoxious champion watching everybody fight for access to him, but that luxury now has an expiration date.
AEW takes a very different approach Wednesday. Rebel Heart Dynamite was already intended to put something larger than storylines at the center of the show. After the loss of Andy Williams, that sense of community carries even more weight.
