Chris King: Bayley Should Bet On Herself And Leave WWE

Bayley is back on WWE television, but her long-term future with the company still appears unsettled. ‘The Role Model’ returned on the September 7 episode of Monday Night Raw to reignite her feud with Lyra Valkyria, yet PWInsider reported days later that Bayley had not signed a new contract as part of her return. Wrestling Observer reporting similarly indicated that Bayley had agreed to terms with WWE but had not formally put pen to paper on a new deal, keeping some uncertainty around what comes next.
Bayley is one of the most amazing superstars in WWE history. She’s a member of The Four Horsewomen from her incredible run in NXT alongside Mercedes Mone, Becky Lynch, and Charlotte Flair. ‘The Role Model’ is a former Royal Rumble winner and the first-ever triple champion and grand-slam champion in WWE. Bayley, alongside Mone, were the inaugural women’s tag team champions.
Bayley had been teaming up with Lyra Valkyria for a long time with their aspirations of becoming women’s tag team champions. After they unsuccessfully challenged Paige and Brie Bella on the June 22nd episode of Monday Night Raw, Valkyria turned on Bayley, leaving the crowd stunned. After a few weeks of in-ring segments, Bayley challenged her former teammate to a match at Saturday Night’s Main Event. Bayley ultimately lost the match and hasn’t been seen on television since July 18th. The longer that she’s not utilized properly, it makes me think that Bayley is better off leaving WWE and wrestling for another organization.
Mone, Bayley’s former teammate and longtime friend, has had tremendous success wrestling for AEW as well as other major wrestling companies. Bayley is too talented to remain with WWE and barely be used; she has already reinvented herself multiple times in the company. I would also love to see a fantastic rematch from NXT: TakeOver Respect between Mone and Bayley. She’s only thirty-seven and still has enough left in the tank to become women’s champion once again. I just don’t believe WWE/TKO views her as a major competitor anymore, and I don’t think that’s right.
There are rumors that she may be staying with the company and a new contract would be presented, but given how long she’s been left off television, I think it would be a mistake to resign. She needs to do the same thing other superstars such as Kofi and Austin Creed have done recently: walk away with their heads held high and bet on themselves. The only way Bayley should return to WWE would be if they make her a serious threat for the women’s title on either brand. If not, Bayley needs to leave.
What do you think ‘The Role Model’ should do? I just miss seeing one of the greatest superstars in the women’s division on screen on a weekly basis. No more hugs, just championships!
