Today In Pro Wrestling History: September 10th

Today definitely had a few interesting events, so I had to cherry pick as to not make the article 100% WWE. There’s still WWE representation of course, but can’t

• WWF Raw is War (2001)

This episode of WWF Raw is War holds a unique and somber place in television history as a poignant time capsule of American pop culture. Broadcast live from the Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, Michigan, the event featured major Attitude Era storylines, including The Rock defending the WCW Championship against Test, and intense rivalries involving Stone Cold Steve Austin and Kurt Angle. What makes this specific broadcast so memorable, however, is its timing. Due to the tragic events of September 11th fundamentally transformed the cultural and global landscape, this marks the last time the show was referred to as Raw is War. Simply just becoming Monday Night Raw moving forward.

• WWE Raw (2007)

A few of the bigger things that stick out from this episode are William Regal calling in an army of security to keep John Cena barred from the building, after Randy Orton punted his father in head leading up to their Unforgiven match. The visual offset of the Jeff Hardy vs Great Khali match, which ended with a pretty dominant performance from Khali, using his Vise Grip to win. But I’m burying the lead on purpose, most of us remember the complete ridiculousness that was the reveal of Vince McMahon’s illegitimate son. Mr. Kennedy would’ve been too on the nose apparently, so instead, it was HORNSWOGGLE! A vividly remembered comedic angle, that even if you thought it was stupid, I’m pretty sure it got a chuckle from everyone.

• AJPW Flashing Tour: Mask vs Hair: BUSHI vs MAZADA (2010)

So this match is really significant for BUSHI’s career in general. BUSHI started his career in AJPW as T28, an unmasked wrestler. But after a middling couple years, he headed to IWRG in Mexico for excursion. There, he adopted the masked persona using the name TETSUYA and then Tetsuya Bushi. He lost his mask in December 2009, but upon returning to Japan, he re-masked and became known as BUSHI. So after spending the last 3 years trying to find himself, it seems like he took a liking to the masked gimmick. MAZADA also had extensive experience in lucha libre and puroresu, as well as Death Matches, which most people probably know him for. So MAZADA was antagonistic throughout the Junior tournament and most of the year until BUSHI finally trapped him in a stipulation he couldn’t wiggle out of. While the match was only around 14 minutes, it was a hot match, the fans were frustrated by MAZADA’s actions, and they were behind BUSHI the entire time. After a Phoenix Splash, BUSHI retained his mask, shaved MAZADA’s head, and solidified his career that we all know him for to this day.

• PROGRESS Chapter 156: Steal Yourself: ASCA Tag Team Titles: The VeloCities (Jude London & Paris de Silva) (c) vs Boisterous Behavior (Man Like DeReiss & Leon Slater) (2023)

This felt like a fun inclusion because it marks the beginning and an end. DeReiss and Leon ended up defeating the Australian champions with a Double Simultaneous pinfall to leave no questions. But this would also be the final tag team title the duo would win together. With Leon joining TNA shortly after in October, the focus of both men changed. Boisterous Behavior defended the titles until December when the eventually dropped them to SCD Grit. People who have followed TNA last few years know what Leon has been up to. DeReiss also saw his singles career take off in Progress.

• STARDOM Nighter In Korakuen (2025)

This really solidified the landscape of 2025 Stardom. Hina was establishing herself as the dominant Future of Stardom champion after her 7th defense over Yuria Hime. Koguma won the CMLL-Japan Women’s Title from Dark Silueta. This event also furthered the ascent of H.A.T.E. – with Rina, Konami & Fukigen Death defeating AZM, Starlight Kid & Miyu Amasaki for the Artists of Stardom title belts. This also is another feather in the cap of Rina, showing how they’ve established her wonderfully over the years. She is the longest reigning Future of Stardom Champion, New Blood Tag Champs and now this trios reign, lasted over 250 days. So her winning the 2026 5 Star Grand Prix should be less of surprise when you see how well they’ve established her.

From real life world events changing things, to a comedic Leprechaun son, BUSHI finally finding himself and the sneaky but masterful build of Rina; we managed to get some fun moments today. Again, I won’t ever throw in a full article of only one company because that’s stupid.
