Soberano Jr and Templario face off! H.A.T.E. makes their in-ring MLW debut, Rina and Saya Kamitani look to leave an impression!
Well now we get a more normal episode since the Fightland gimmick was last week. The show was alright, but dysfunctional tag teams as a main event is a little silly, especially when you have a tournament going on. It would be like interrupting the G1 for Toru Yano to have a merry-go-round death match with a bunch of guys from DDT and summoning an egg salad sandwich as the referee.
Also we know I hate the Masha involvement, and I will still never understand how Lady Frost gets passed over so quickly everywhere she goes. But let’s see where this goes…
“The Phaaaantom of the Opera Cup is here!"@AustinAries remains in the Opera Cup, and he’s not worried about Matt Riddle!

Killer Kross walks out to cut a promo, but as he’s doing color by numbers local hype, the Skyscrapers music hits and Dijak starts mouthing off. Dijak stumbles over his lines as he usually does, refers to Bishop as “Kid” and Bishop gets pissed. Bishop looks like he wants to clock Dijak, then Kross sticks up for the “Kid”, but then Matt Riddle’s music hits, says that Kross still “owes” him so Bishop attacks Riddle and things turn into a melee. Scarlett talks to Riddle and Kross, they agree and challenge the Skyscrapers to a New York City Street Fight.
Soberano Jr vs Templario
Templario is one of only like two luchadors who hasn’t sucked in MLW. So I enjoy when Templario is on the card. Soberano is the other luchador who hasn’t sucked, so I’m glad he’s back after lasting being on in June.
During the Collar and Elbow, Soberano starts to go after the mask which lends to a quick break, rope run and Templario levels him off the Shoulder Tackle, Kick on the Drop Down, Leap Frogs, Matrix, Flips, Trips, and Templario hits the Spinn-a-rooni for them to stare at each other after the fast paced run. Soberano throws Templario into the ropes, Headscissors, but Soberano cuts off the next Dive spot, Gamengiri into a Flying Headscissors. They move to the outside and they trade counters, Templario drops him, goes for the Dive but Soberano stops Templario with the Gamengiri again. Back inside, Soberano is showboating, a Round Kick to the chest and then a Pop-Up Kick to the Ribs keeps Soberano in charge. Soberano keeps working for the mask, but the referee admonishes him and that makes Soberano mouth off at the referee.
Soberano is looking to continue offense, Superkick, rope run, Templario catches Soberano with a GTS, hits the ropes but Soberano Dropkicks to cause a both down moment. Another quick back and forth, Templario goes up for a Flying Headscissors but Soberano turns it into a Powerbomb for a two count! After a short sell, Soberano tries to continue but Templario catches him, Vertical Suplex and only two. Templario misses the Moonsault, eats the Jumping Knee, Soberano hits the ropes but gets caught by a Snap Powerslam. Soberano trips Templario on the ropes, goes for a Draping Moonsault but Templario moves to the apron, Templario catches him during a high risk spot, but Soberano still pulls off the Tornado DDT. Templario misses the corner spot, then Soberano misses and Templario tries to capitalize with a Wheelbarrow Suplex, but Soberano kicks out. Avalanche Gutwrench Powerbomb into the Jacknife Bridge, but Soberano kicks out!
Templario is looking for a finish, but as he tries to swing Soberano up, eats a Destroyer! Soberano hits a Gamengiri, scales and hits a Tornillo for two! Soberano runs the ropes but gets caught and turned inside out into a Powerbomb! Templario wants Debario, Soberano counters, another counter, Templario with the a Powerslam and finally lands Debario for the win.
CONTRA Unit seems STRONGER THAN EVER!

Mark Coffey w/GBOT vs Beastman w/Kimchee
Mark is playing scared even though he’s not small either, so this is goofy to put a “monster” against a heel. Beatman levels Mark with a few hamhocks, slams and a corner splash. Mark moves so Beastman hits the corner buckle, Mark tries a few body shots, but Beastman grabs him into a Side Slam for two. Beastman throws Mark into the corner, Canonball, but Mark gets to the ropes. Kimchee wants Beastman to fly, but Wolfgang and Joe try to interfere, the Vader Bomb misses because of the delay, Enzuigiri from Mark and that…takes out Beastman? He ain’t Toshiaki Kawada, awful finish.
It was lumbering and stupid, just like Beastman. And the finish sucked, it screamed of having on idea how to beat a bigger person.
H.A.T.E. (Rina & Saya Kamitani) vs Shotzi Blackheart & Lady Frost
Harass, Abuse, Terrorize, Eradicate…that’s what the stable name means.
Saya and Shotzi start off. Saya dodges the tie up and teases Shotzi, and the crowd is firmly supporting Saya. A nice Dropkick, but she gets cut off by Shotzi, Missile Dropkcik from Shotzi is slow. Shotzi tries to continue but Frost blind tags her way in, Saya stays in and they have a little back and forth, Frost Shoulder Tackles Saya but Saya kips up and the crowd pops. So as they start tussling, Shotzi tags herself in, Frost and Shotzi start to argue so Rina and Saya just bum rush Shotzi and Frost. Rinda and Saya do the old Oedo Tai Face Push Pose in the ropes on Shotzi. The crowd is popping nicely for Rina.
Rina misses the charge, Saya tries to help out but gets Low Bridged, Shotzi starts firing back on Rina, corner attacks, but Frost Blind Tags again, but now they seem to be more willing to work together. Frost is working over Rina, Kicks, Cartweel Senton, Shotzi tosses Frost out, so, so much for working together. Chupacabra from Shotzi, Saya breaks up the pinfall, a bit of a signature spam spot as Shotzi hits a Spinning Bomb on Rina but Rina kicks out at two. All four start to brawl in the ring, Saya and Frost go to the outside, Rina Hip Toss Takeover on Shotzi, Rina goes up, Pink Devil Knees! Frost breaks up the pinfall.
Frost acts like the tag counts, Saya throws Shotzi into the pile, Saya lays them both out with a Waterwheel Kick. Frost misses her Roundhouse Kick, PINK DEVIL connects on Frost! Rina wins!
Not great chemistry for the spots, it was a decent showing for H.A.T.E. – but spots were awkward and slow. Frost and Shotzi start to fight and Saya and Rina just laugh and walk away.
Overall Score: 5.25/10
You know…I watch this every week and I have no idea why Aries should care about Riddle. Riddle got dog walked by Brick Savage in the Opera Cup, are they just giving Riddle a title shot in the middle of a tournament? Where’s the logic in that? Finish the damn tournament first, stop with the ADHD story beats.
Soberano is money, Templario is very good, so I’m not mad at that match. Beastman is useless as anything more than a comedy big guy, and honestly…Gallus, GBOT, have never impressed me individually. As a tag team they’re pretty good, individually they all kind of suck. And while I do love me some STARDOM, that wasn’t really a fantastic showing because too many spots were clunky, slow, or just looked weird. Saya’s two “pinfall saves” looked late because of whatever reason. Some of the selling and feeding was weird…at least Rina got the pinfall victory. Since this event happened in June, it was good to give Rina more visible momentum leading into the 5 Star Grand Prix.
But MLW is doing the same dumb stuff, ending with a brawl of sorts and Contra just laying out people. Contra has done nothing new in the 6 months Fusion has been back, the song is getting old, play a new one. Was this still tolerable? Sure. Am I going to complain about using 3-4 month old canned footage for NEW episodes? Very yes. I guess that’s why the November PPV is just going to be a Superfight Card because you can’t run any real stories through it since your television program is 3 MONTHS BEHIND!
