Andrew’s MLW Fusion Results & Ratings: S8 E25
Two Opera Cup matches, some lead in for SuperFight and Zamaya actually speaks! Looks like she’s just making enemies everywhere!
At the end of last week, we saw Kross and Bishop brawling through the parking lot. Austin Aries put Trevor Lee away in the first Quarter Finals match of the Opera Cup and Saya Kamitani, Rina and Frost…may have a tenuous alliance again Shotzi, Scarlett and Zamaya.
Given the fact they’re trying to make 4 month old television line up with a real time PPV in a week, I have no clue how they’re gonna cobble this together.
It’ll be “The Phantom of the Opera Cup” @AustinAries taking on “The Original Bro” Matt Riddle (@SuperKingofBros) at MLW Saturday Night SuperFight!!

Opera Cup Quarter-Finals: Labron Kozone vs Diego Hill
Open is typical big guy versus flippy guy stuff. Diego goes for an overly Lucha double Leg Spring Arm Drag, then there’s a Satellite…failure. Diego misses hooking and then Labron rocks him, Step Over Back Elbow, Rope Run, Diego tries to jump it, but Labron catches him into a Backbreaker.
Scoop Slam and a Senton from Labron. Drop Step into a Capture Suplex from Labron, then more of a Northern Lights release Suplex. The chemistry kind of sucks between these two. Very slow and plodding spots and too many beckons to feed. Kick dodges and a Sweep Jump, Diego hits a Gamengiri to get some distance finally. Twisting Moonsault DDT from Diego, Labron powders but then eats a Tope con Hilo. Diego with a Flying Forearm, only for two. They go for counter lifts, but Diego with the Forward Roll Senton, misses the Moonsault, wants a Back Handspring, but Labron catches him and hits the Burning Hammer. Powerbomb turned to a Hurricanrana for two, Diego with Kicks, goes for the Cartwheel Kick, Labron ducks the Springboard and hits Ball Game! Labron wins.
The match was hurt by terrible camera work cutting to the crowd during the start of the finishing sequence and the early pacing was inane. But Labron is the correct choice.
ZAMAYA (@thezamaya) HAS SPOKEN!!
Is she looking to take Major League Z to the next level with a championship win?!

Zamaya speaks and where’s the Futurama gif of “I’m Scaroused” when I need it.
Wolfgang w/Mark Coffey vs Beastman w/Kimchee
Why are we getting this? Mark Coffey just faced him and it sucked. I hate this guy.
A few early slug spots, Beastman levels Wolfgang with a Running Cannonball, but apparently doesn’t understand how to cover people? Stupid. Wolfgang gets a Boot up, Rope Run Busaiku Knee, and then Wolfgang goes for the Weaver Lock. A bunch of big slow spots, Wolfgang tries to do an elevated Powerbomb, but Beastman hits a Bonsai Drop. Beastman jumps around like an idiot that he did good? Kimchee tries to tell him to pin Wolfgang, but falls in the ring, Coffey hits the apron and Beastman throws a punch into a Bear Trap. so Wolfgang hits a spear and wins.
This match was dogshit wrapped in vomit.

Opera Cup Quarter-Finals: Matt Riddle vs Ikura Kwon
Austin Aries comes out to commentary and Lawlor looks so annoyed. Oh, no Samael?
Kwon starts off with a Flying Kick off the bell. This could be a clever reference to Matt Riddle being a fan of Fabricio Werdum and there is a well known fight where Werdum opened the match against Travis Browne with a Flying Kick.
Luckily for Riddle, he blocked it, and then Drop Stepped into back to back Gutwrench Suplexes. Kwon with the Enzuigiri, Kwon tries to Lariat but gets caught in a Triangle Armbar in the ropes. Riddle tries to fly, but a Dropkick from Kwon ruins Riddle’s momentum. Kwon with Round Kicks and Riddle asks for more, catches the third but Kwon gets away and then hits his Slingblade/Backbreaker combo.
After the commercial, we come back and Riddle hits a Fisherman’s Buster on Kwon. Strikes, Shoteis from Riddle, Push Kick into a Flashing Knee, Forearm in the Corner, Exploder, Brotan and PK! German Suplex Hold from Riddle, but only a two. Great flurry from Riddle. Riddle wants the Moonsault, Snapping Crescent Kick from Kwon, but Riddle connects on the Backfist and Kwon crumples. Riddle wins after the Backfist.
Overall Score: 5.75/10
The ending flurry of Riddle and Kwon was good, but the show felt heavily cobbled together. Kross’ promo sounded like it was recorded in a bathroom, the cut away to promos where people aren’t in the same area. Looks like Riddle’s hair was longer in his promo with Aries. This is really just very amateurish carny crap trying to stitch together events from 3 to 4 months ago, to make sense in November.
It’s also hilarious how Cagematch tells us that Trevor Lee is no longer the Southern Crown champion, but their Social Media has to promote the Lee vs Tsuji match like he is, because the TV is so far behind.
Also if anyone thinks I’m being unfair to Beastman, get a clue. Silly gimmicks make sense in like JCW, but when half of MLW’s roster are Hoss Wrestlers who can barely move, a Stone Aged Imbecile ain’t it. Neither is a 5’9″ mental giant indie gimmick like Andrew Everett. When you’re trying to present something serious and then just randomly insert slapstick or dumbass gimmicks, you just make your product look like Bingo Hall bullshit.
