Trey Miguel earns a TNA World Title match, the Hardys take over Impact, Jamie Hayter misses WrestleDream, and SmackDown brings Rhodes and Orton together.

Trey Miguel will challenge Leon Slater for the TNA World Championship at Destination X after winning a five-man ladder match on Thursday’s Impact. The Hardys’ anniversary episode also forced the Nemeth brothers into singles competition and pitted two longtime rivals against each other in a tables match.

The show also gave TNA’s new Knockouts tag champions a victory and continued the Hardys’ rivalry with syX. Elsewhere, AEW confirmed that Jamie Hayter’s injury has removed a championship match from WrestleDream, while Tony Khan addressed the promotion’s future under new media ownership.

Friday’s SmackDown will feature Cody Rhodes confronting Randy Orton, along with two matches rooted in personal rivalries.

It’s the Chairshot Wrestling News Report for October 16, 2026!

Trey Miguel Wins Ladder Match, Will Challenge Leon Slater at Destination X

Trey Miguel emerged from Thursday’s five-man ladder match with the contract for a TNA World Championship opportunity, setting up a meeting with Leon Slater at Destination X on November 15 in Edmonton, Alberta. He defeated Moose, Elijah, Ricky Sosa and International Champion Jason Hotch to earn the opportunity.

The Hardys created the match after welcoming Slater and new X-Division Champion Amazing Red to their anniversary celebration. Slater spoke about overcoming doubts before his Bound For Glory victory, while Jeff Hardy acknowledged that challenging the young champion remains a personal ambition. Rather than grant themselves an opportunity, the brothers chose five contenders to compete for it.

The main event delivered several interruptions that could influence TNA’s next month. Mustafa Ali prevented Hotch from climbing the ladder, renewing their conflict after Bound For Glory. Moose powerbombed Sosa onto a ladder, and Elijah appeared ready to retrieve the contract until former champion Nic Nemeth entered and knocked him from the ladder. Miguel stopped Nemeth with the Lightning Spiral and climbed to claim the contract. Slater joined him afterward for a handshake and a face-to-face encounter.

Rather than immediately revisiting Nemeth, TNA can elevate two younger stars, including an X-Division veteran seeking his biggest singles achievement. Nemeth’s interference also leaves Elijah with an obvious grievance, so the former champion’s involvement is unlikely to disappear simply because another challenger won.

TNA Impact Results — October 15, 2026

TNA aired its Hardy anniversary edition from the Dothan Civic Center in Alabama. The complete televised match results were:

  • Nic Nemeth def. Ryan Nemeth.
  • Tables Match — syX (Joseph Sawyer & Samuel Shaw) def. The Righteous (Vincent & Dutch).
  • The Hardys (Matt & Jeff Hardy) def. AJ Francis & Expressions.
  • Six-Knockouts Tag Team Match — Xia Brookside & Apex (Shayna Baszler & Zoey Serrano) def. Indi Hartwell, Gabby Forza & Harley Hudson.
  • TNA World Championship No. 1 Contender’s Ladder Match — Trey Miguel def. Elijah, Ricky Sosa, Moose & Jason Hotch.

No titles changed hands, but Slater gained a challenger and Apex won its first televised match as champions. The Nemeth brothers retained their tag titles despite being forced into singles competition, while syX survived another violent stipulation match.

The Hardys Turn 35 Years Into a Night of Unusual Matchmaking

Matt and Jeff Hardy celebrated 35 years in professional wrestling by taking over the matchmaking duties normally handled by TNA management. Santino Marella granted them control of the show, and the brothers used it to create a mixture of meaningful title developments, personal confrontations and matches their rivals would never have chosen voluntarily.

They ordered the Nemeth brothers to face each other, threatening to strip their tag titles if either deliberately lost. The Hardys later inserted themselves into a bout against AJ Francis and Expressions, who made his professional wrestling debut. Expressions absorbed two Twists of Fate before Jeff finished him with a Swanton Bomb.

The celebration also acknowledged Amazing Red, who entered the TNA Hall of Fame and won the X-Division Championship at Bound For Glory. Red credited the Hardys’ influence, while Slater discussed the significance of winning his first world championship. The brothers used those appearances to connect their own history to TNA’s present roster rather than making every segment about themselves.

The result was more than an anniversary tribute: the Hardys won, but Miguel earned the night’s biggest prize while several rivalries advanced.

syX Survives The Righteous in Tables Match

Joseph Sawyer and Samuel Shaw continued their winning streak as syX defeated Vincent and Dutch of The Righteous in a tables match selected by the Hardys. The bout followed syX’s Falls Count Anywhere victory over Matt and Jeff at Bound For Glory, where Erick Redbeard’s arrival helped the group overcome the brothers.

Thursday’s stipulation required both members of a team to go through tables. Shaw put Vincent through the wood after an initial attempt failed to break it, but Dutch evened the score by sending Sawyer through another table. Dutch then positioned Shaw for a potential finish, only for Sawyer to interfere and allow Shaw to send Dutch crashing through a table for the victory.

The result keeps syX dangerous without repeating its match against the Hardys. The Righteous were credible opponents because of their own history with Matt and Jeff, and their defeat strengthens the threat facing the brothers whenever the rivalry resumes. Redbeard did not need to decide this match, which also allowed Sawyer and Shaw to demonstrate that they can win on their own.

Apex Makes Winning Start as Knockouts Tag Champions

Shayna Baszler and Zoey Serrano, now competing as Apex, teamed with Xia Brookside to defeat Knockouts World Champion Indi Hartwell, Gabby Forza and Harley Hudson. The six-woman match connected two of the major championship changes from Bound For Glory: Hartwell’s singles title victory and Apex’s capture of the Knockouts tag belts.

Forza briefly changed the momentum with power offense against both champions, but Serrano and Baszler eventually isolated Hudson. Their coordinated attack led to Baszler applying a choke while Brookside prevented Hartwell from making the save. The victory gives Apex an immediate result to build on, while Brookside remains directly involved with the woman who took her championship.

TNA now has two connected but distinct directions for the Knockouts division. Hartwell must establish her reign against a former champion who has not moved on, while Apex needs challengers capable of testing its partnership. Thursday built the tag champions without putting either title at stake.

Nic Nemeth Beats Ryan, Then Disrupts the World Title Picture

Nic Nemeth defeated his younger brother Ryan in a singles match neither wanted, after the Hardys threatened to strip them of the TNA World Tag Team Championship if they deliberately lost. An early attempt to stage a quick finish brought Matt and Jeff to the entrance, where they insisted the brothers compete seriously.

The match became increasingly physical until Nic connected with a superkick and then a Famouser for the pin. He helped Ryan afterward, but continued complaining that he had not received an immediate rematch with Slater. Later, he interfered in the ladder match and prevented Elijah from winning before Miguel stopped him.

Those developments leave Nemeth in an awkward position. He still holds tag team gold alongside Ryan, yet his attention remains fixed on the world championship he lost at Bound For Glory. His decision to interfere also risks creating additional enemies before he secures another title opportunity.

Jamie Hayter Injury Forces WrestleDream Card Change

AEW confirmed Thursday that Jamie Hayter remains sidelined following the Chicago Street Fight at All Out. Tony Khan said he had hoped the Women’s World Tag Team Champions would defend at WrestleDream, but Hayter has not recovered sufficiently to compete. He expressed hope that she could return within a couple of weeks, without confirming a firm timetable.

The planned defense by the Brawling Birds, Hayter and Alex Windsor, against Kris Statlander and Harley Cameron has therefore been removed from Saturday’s pay-per-view. Instead, the pre-show will feature Sisters of Sin against Divine Dominion. The replacement match follows their recent television confrontation, but it will not be for the tag team championship.

The change removes an established championship attraction from the card. AEW can preserve Hayter’s health and the champions’ reign without rushing a replacement defense, although it also leaves Statlander and Cameron without the opportunity they had earned. Saturday’s match now advances a different rivalry while the division waits for a clearer update on Hayter.

WrestleDream Adds Matches as Clockwork Carnage Approaches

AEW’s Saturday pay-per-view in Orlando remains centered on Will Ospreay defending the World Championship against seven challengers in Clockwork Carnage. Adam Copeland, Samoa Joe, Mike Bailey, Konosuke Takeshita, Kazuchika Okada, Ricochet and Darby Allin complete the field, with the match combining eliminations and a timed scoring period.

The updated card also includes a four-way TBS Championship defense for Persephone against Queen Aminata, Dani Luna and Hyan, plus a rubber match between Chris Jericho and Nick Wayne. FTR and the Motor City Machine Guns will begin their best-of-five series on the Tailgate Brawl pre-show. Elsewhere, Mercedes Moné faces Thekla, Jon Moxley defends against Mark Davis, and the Young Bucks meet Kevin Knight and Kyle Fletcher.

These additions give WrestleDream several stories beyond its experimental main event, including an emerging tag team rivalry and a crowded TBS title picture. Without the women’s tag title defense, the remaining matches must deliver the card’s expected depth.

Tony Khan Addresses AEW’s Future Under Skydance

During Thursday’s WrestleDream media call, Tony Khan expressed optimism about AEW’s relationship with Skydance following its acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery. Khan said his conversations with David Ellison had been positive and highlighted the continued involvement of television executives Channing Dungey and JB Perrette, both of whom he considers supporters of AEW.

Khan emphasized that keeping TBS, TNT and HBO Max within the same corporate structure offers advantages for distributing AEW programming. He did not announce a new media-rights agreement or disclose specific changes to the company’s existing arrangements, so his comments should be understood as confidence in the relationship rather than confirmation of a new deal.

The issue matters beyond WrestleDream because television and streaming distribution remain central to AEW’s business. The key questions remain future contract terms, visibility and how the combined company prioritizes wrestling.

WWE SmackDown Preview — October 16, 2026

Friday Night SmackDown comes to Sacramento, California, with Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton scheduled to meet face-to-face following weeks of escalating hostility. Rhodes demanded that General Manager Nick Aldis arrange the confrontation after Orton interfered with his attempt to qualify for Money in the Bank.

  • Nikki Bella vs. Paige
  • R-Truth vs. Damian Priest
  • Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton face-to-face confrontation

Paige is seeking revenge after Nikki used the ropes to win their previous singles encounter. Their rematch offers a chance to settle the disputed result, although their rivalry has already extended beyond one controversial finish. R-Truth and Priest, meanwhile, enter as former tag team partners whose relationship has deteriorated into open hostility. Their confrontation last week led directly to Friday’s singles match.

Rhodes and Orton remain the most consequential advertised segment because their history reaches well beyond the latest interference. Orton’s actions cost Rhodes an opportunity to pursue the Money in the Bank contract, and a direct confrontation could clarify whether WWE intends to move them into another major singles match. WWE has not announced such a match for Friday, so the immediate development is the meeting itself rather than any presumed stipulation or future booking.

SmackDown airs Friday at 8 p.m. ET on USA Network. With Crown Jewel approaching in November, the brand has an opportunity to advance several personal rivalries while determining which championship programs deserve the greatest attention.

Thursday gave TNA a clear first challenger for its new world champion and a memorable anniversary celebration for two of the promotion’s most influential stars. Miguel’s victory provides Destination X with an important title match, while the Nemeths, syX and the Knockouts division all emerged with unresolved business.

AEW enters WrestleDream with a changed card and questions about Jamie Hayter’s recovery, but the eight-man world title match remains its central attraction. Friday’s SmackDown will complete the week’s major television programming with Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton finally coming face-to-face.
