Chairshot Wrestling News Report (10/7/2026): Wren Sinclair Steals a Title Shot, Ospreay Survives Okada & Joe Is In
Wren Sinclair sneaks into Halloween Havoc, Will Ospreay survives Kazuchika Okada and Samoa Joe qualifies for Clockwork Carnage.
Wren Sinclair sneaks into Halloween Havoc, Will Ospreay survives Kazuchika Okada and Samoa Joe qualifies for Clockwork Carnage.
Wren Sinclair found a rather creative way around being suspended from NXT: she simply pretended to be somebody else.
Sinclair disguised herself as AAA star Lady Shani, secretly entered Tuesday’s 20-woman Battle Royal and eliminated Kali Armstrong to earn an NXT Women’s Championship match against Kelani Jordan at Halloween Havoc. Meanwhile in Paris, Will Ospreay finally scored another major victory over Kazuchika Okada to retain the AEW World Championship, while Samoa Joe became the first challenger to qualify for WrestleDream’s Clockwork Carnage Match.
It’s the Chairshot Wrestling News Report for October 7, 2026!
Wren Sinclair Sneaks Her Way Into Halloween Havoc
Wren Sinclair will challenge Kelani Jordan for the NXT Women’s Championship at Halloween Havoc after winning Tuesday’s interpromotional Battle Royal despite currently being suspended from NXT.
Sinclair entered the match disguised as AAA’s Lady Shani. During the match, Reina Volcán pulled “Shani” underneath the bottom rope and attacked her at ringside, meaning she was never officially eliminated. Kali Armstrong eventually eliminated La Catalina, Kiana James and Lizzy Rain in succession and believed she had won before the disguised Sinclair returned to the ring and threw Armstrong over the top rope.
Sinclair then removed the mask and revealed herself, turning what appeared to be an AAA victory into an NXT championship opportunity for a wrestler who technically was not supposed to be competing at all. General Manager Robert Stone had indefinitely suspended Sinclair after she attacked an official, but the ruling apparently did not account for her borrowing another wrestler’s identity.
The finish gives NXT an easy question to carry into next week: does Stone honor a title opportunity earned by someone who circumvented his suspension to enter the match?
From a storyline perspective, Sinclair also gives Kelani an opponent with considerably more history attached than a random Battle Royal winner. Sinclair remains closely connected to Kendal Grey, whose championship loss to Jordan has been central to her recent downward spiral, so Halloween Havoc can build on an existing issue while moving Sinclair into a championship program of her own.
WWE NXT Results — October 6, 2026
Tuesday’s NXT from the WWE Performance Center continued the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic and established Kelani Jordan’s Halloween Havoc challenger.
- Zilla Fatu def. Lexis King
- Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic First Round – Hank & Tank def. Shido Ash & Viktor Zanov
- Shiloh Hill vs. Naraku ended without a winner after Naraku accidentally sprayed the referee with mist
- Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic First Round – BirthRight def. Tokyo Bad Boys
- NXT Women’s Championship No. 1 Contender Battle Royal – Wren Sinclair won, last eliminating Kali Armstrong
BirthRight’s tournament victory came through considerably different circumstances than originally advertised. Sean Legacy and Dorian Van Dux were scheduled to face the Tokyo Bad Boys, but BirthRight attacked them backstage and Lexis King and Charlie Dempsey ultimately took their place in the tournament match. Dempsey pinned Takuma to advance the group.
Hank & Tank also advanced and will face the Creed Brothers in the quarterfinals, while BirthRight moves on to meet AAA World Tag Team Champions El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. and Galeno del Mal.
BirthRight Crushes Zilla Fatu’s Hand
Zilla Fatu defeated Lexis King in the opening match, but BirthRight made sure his night ended considerably worse than it began.
Fatu survived attempted interference from Stacks, Uriah Connors and Charlie Dempsey before putting King away with the Triple Z. BirthRight immediately swarmed him after the bell, with Dempsey using a steel chair before the group took Fatu outside and trapped his hand between the ring steps. Dempsey then slammed the steps together around Fatu’s hand.
The attack escalates a program that began with BirthRight attempting to recruit Fatu. Once he rejected the group, its approach shifted from persuasion to preventing him from becoming a problem.
King losing clean also creates an interesting dynamic inside BirthRight. He was supposed to prove that Fatu had made a mistake by rejecting them, only to need the entire group after failing to do so in the ring.
There is no reason to diagnose Fatu’s condition from a storyline attack, but WWE clearly wants the hand to become the next major piece of the feud. Whether that keeps him out temporarily or simply gives him another reason to pursue BirthRight should become clearer next week.
Myles Borne Sucker Punches Tony D’Angelo
NXT Champion Grayson Waller may have successfully created another problem between two wrestlers who want his championship.
Tony D’Angelo and Myles Borne confronted Waller during Tuesday’s show, with both men making their case for another opportunity. Waller suggested they simply face each other next week to determine who deserves the next championship match.
Borne initially appeared reluctant to fight D’Angelo, but that hesitation disappeared quickly. He struck Tony with a loaded punch, and quarters spilled across the ring after D’Angelo went down.
The attack gives next week’s match considerably more weight than a routine No. 1 Contender bout. Borne has spent much of his recent run trying to establish himself independently, and blindsiding D’Angelo suggests his patience with waiting for opportunities has finally run out.
Waller benefits from all of it. Instead of dealing with two challengers simultaneously, the champion gets to watch them damage one another while WWE determines who moves toward Halloween Havoc.
Will Ospreay Finally Gets Another Win Over Kazuchika Okada
Will Ospreay will enter Clockwork Carnage as AEW World Champion after defeating Kazuchika Okada in the main event of Grand Slam France.
Ospreay entered Paris openly acknowledging how badly his career record against Okada bothered him. The two built much of their shared history in New Japan, where Okada repeatedly served as the obstacle Ospreay could not overcome even as he developed from junior heavyweight standout into one of the company’s top stars.
Tuesday finally gave Ospreay another major answer to that history. He survived multiple Rainmakers, hit a Storm Breaker for a near fall and eventually finished Okada with the Hidden Blade to retain the AEW World Championship.
The victory also settles an important WrestleDream question. Clockwork Carnage was announced as an AEW World Championship match, but Ospreay still had to survive Okada before knowing whether he would actually enter his own creation as champion.
He now does, and the first opponent waiting for him is hardly comforting.
Samoa Joe stood on the stage after the main event and stared Ospreay down, making the closing image of AEW’s first event in France less about Ospreay finally beating Okada and more about what comes next.
AEW Grand Slam France Results — October 6, 2026
AEW made its debut in France Tuesday with a special Grand Slam edition of Dynamite from Adidas Arena in Paris. Four championships were defended, the first Clockwork Carnage qualifier took place and two additional WrestleDream championship matches emerged from the show.
- ROH World Championship – Bandido def. Kofi to retain
- Clockwork Carnage Qualifier – Samoa Joe def. Jack Perry
- Mark Davis & Jake Doyle def. Jon Moxley & Gabe Kidd
- TNT Championship – Darby Allin def. Kyle Fletcher to retain
- AEW Women’s World Championship – Mercedes Moné def. Queen Aminata to retain
- AEW World Championship – Will Ospreay def. Kazuchika Okada to retain
Grand Slam France gave AEW exactly what the company needed during the short turnaround from All Out to WrestleDream. Rather than treating Paris as an isolated international attraction, almost every major result changed or clarified something for October 17.
Bandido’s victory kept the ROH World Championship with him while adding another chapter to the conflict between The New Level and Hangman Page, Bandido and Brody King. Mercedes survived Queen Aminata before immediately returning her attention to Thekla, while Darby retained the TNT Championship against the man who previously held it.
Ospreay and Samoa Joe Leave Paris Headed for Clockwork Carnage
Samoa Joe defeated Jack Perry with the Muscle Buster to become the first wrestler to qualify for Clockwork Carnage beyond the defending AEW World Champion.
Joe had not wrestled on AEW television since May before returning to answer Perry’s challenge. His first televised match back therefore immediately placed him into the World Championship picture, where he now joins Ospreay in the eight-man match at WrestleDream.
The format makes Joe an especially dangerous addition. Competitors can be eliminated during the staggered-entry portion before all eight wrestlers have arrived, after which the remaining wrestlers enter a 15-minute period where every pinfall or submission scores one point.
Joe is built for either phase. He can eliminate someone before the scoring period begins, but his submission offense also gives him a realistic way to accumulate multiple falls once the match changes formats.
Ospreay created Clockwork Carnage to give multiple wrestlers an opportunity at the championship. He now knows the first man taking him up on that invitation is a former AEW World Champion who needed one match after returning to put himself back in contention.
WrestleDream Adds Two More Championship Matches
AEW added two championship matches to WrestleDream during Grand Slam France, including another chapter in the increasingly tangled rivalry between Swerve Strickland and Hangman Page.
Swerve, Kofi and Austin Creed will defend the AEW World Trios Championship against Hangman, Bandido and Brody King in a Two-Out-of-Three Falls Match. The champions issued the challenge after tensions erupted around Bandido’s successful ROH World Championship defense against Kofi.
The teams already met at All Out, where Swerve and The New Level retained the championships. Adding Two-Out-of-Three Falls gives AEW a straightforward reason to run the match again without simply pretending the first result did not matter.
Jon Moxley will also defend the Continental Championship against Mark Davis. Davis and Jake Doyle defeated Moxley and Gabe Kidd in Paris when Davis pinned Kidd, with AEW confirming the WrestleDream championship match afterward.
Neither challenger had to pin the champion Tuesday, which keeps Moxley protected while still giving Davis a meaningful result on the way to his title opportunity. It also keeps the Death Riders and Don Callis Family conflict active without forcing every member of either group into the same match.
Mercedes Moné Survives Queen Aminata, Then Finds Thekla
Mercedes Moné successfully defended the AEW Women’s World Championship against Queen Aminata, preserving her scheduled WrestleDream defense against Thekla.
Aminata earned the opportunity by defeating Julia Hart on Collision and pushed Mercedes through a physical title match before the champion eventually put her away with the Money Maker. The result removed the final championship obstacle between Mercedes and Thekla.
Thekla did not wait until Orlando to remind Mercedes she was still there. She attacked the champion after the match, and the two brawled as their WrestleDream program moved back to the forefront.
That was the correct direction after using Aminata as a credible television challenger. Mercedes needed to defend the championship without making the already-announced WrestleDream match feel irrelevant, and Aminata needed enough offense that the opportunity felt earned rather than ceremonial.
Thekla now gets the champion she expected, while Mercedes leaves Paris with another successful defense and considerably less time to ignore the woman waiting for her.
Knockout Brothers Regain IWGP Tag Team Championship
The Knockout Brothers are IWGP Tag Team Champions again after OSKAR and Yuto-Ice defeated HENARE and Great-O-Khan Tuesday at New Japan’s Road to King of Pro-Wrestling event at Korakuen Hall.
OSKAR and Yuto-Ice captured the championship to begin their second reign, adding another significant result to the final stretch before New Japan’s King of Pro-Wrestling event on October 12.
The title change also created another match for the major show. Knockout Brothers will join Jeff Cobb to challenge United Empire for the NEVER Openweight Six-Man Tag Team Championship, putting the new IWGP Tag Team Champions directly back across the ring from HENARE and Great-O-Khan.
That gives New Japan a natural continuation rather than treating Tuesday’s title change as the end of the rivalry. United Empire lost one set of championships to Knockout Brothers and now has to defend another against the same team only days later.
It also gives OSKAR and Yuto-Ice an opportunity to arrive at Ryogoku holding the heavyweight tag belts and leave with even more championship gold.
Wren Sinclair hid underneath somebody else’s mask to get around a suspension and steal a spot at Halloween Havoc. Samoa Joe simply walked back into an AEW ring, beat Jack Perry and immediately became one of the most dangerous men standing between Will Ospreay and leaving WrestleDream with his championship.
Ospreay finally got another victory over Kazuchika Okada, but he barely had time to enjoy it before Joe appeared. NXT thought Kali Armstrong had survived 19 other women before discovering there had technically been a 20th woman waiting outside.
Halloween Havoc and WrestleDream both became much clearer Tuesday night, even if neither road got any easier for the champions traveling it.
