IMPACT Rumors: Speculation On Recent Meeting Between IMPACT & WWE Officials

As was noted, officials for IMPACT Wrestling and WWE met last week at WWE Headquarters in Stamford, Connecticut, reportedly just to get the two sides in the same room (see the full story here).

While it was said that the meeting had nothing to do with a possible sale of the IMPACT Wrestling video library, it now looks like that was indeed a subject of the conversations. According to The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, IMPACT officials were pitching WWE officials on some ideas, one of which is being said to be regarding the video library and the WWE Network.

At this time, the speculation is that IMPACT was seeking a deal that would see them essentially renting out more of their content for the WWE Network due to struggling with making money. The Observer noted that IMPACT has struggled in that department and with gaining mainstream exposure, saying the only way IMPACT is making any money is via television deals. It’s being said that the only significant money being made by IMPACT is coming from their television deal in India, as they are no longer doing well in the United Kingdom market and their contract with Pop TV in the United States pays very little.

Additionally, a full on sale on the IMPACT video library seems to be unlikely as much of the footage is used for The Fight Network, which is also owned by Anthem Sports. However, it’s not entirely impossible as a deal could be reached to allow The Fight Network to continue using the footage should a sale ever happen.

Currently, IMPACT Wrestling’s agreement with Pop TV is set to end later this year.
