NXT Minus 6: Velveteen Dream on a Couch!

This week on NXT, the Dusty Rhodes Classic gets a remake and we get Velveteen Dream on a Couch!

6. I appreciate the intent, but I never thought of Dusty Rhodes as a tag team guy. If I was in charge, and I assume that will happen sooner than later, I’d repackage it as the Dusty Rhodes Every-man Classic. It’s a tournament for 8 mid card guys & jobbers, and the winner gets a title shot. That’s how you pay homage to the son of a plumber.

5. You know what Dusty would have loved? Johnny Gargano’s promo. If his promo didn’t get you pumped for Takeover, you have no soul or you are Shayna Baszler. With all due respect to Kofi Kingston, the real underdog story is Johnny Wrestling. On the other end of the segment, Adam Cole made a convincing argument that he, not Johnny, is the real Mr. Takeover. Lucky for us they get to settle it in the ring. Happy Happy Joy Joy!

4.B. Velveteen Dream on a Couch!

4.A. Shayna Baszler’s father was a boa constrictor & her mother was a black widow, making her…100% PURE EVIL! I don’t know who Kirifuda is, but his move should be renamed the Baszler Choke.

3. If I could create a wrestler from scratch, it would look a lot like Matt Riddle. His combination of technical wizardry and vicious ass kickery is fun to watch. Even with his relatively small stature, he hits hard enough to be a believable challenge to the heavyweights.

2. The Forgotten Sons continue to improve. That’s not a typo. This week, drumroll please…I’m giving their match with Aleister Black & Ricochet 4.2 stars. The heels cheated. RicoChack (it’s better than Blackochet) actually showed some tag team interaction, and best of all, nobody kicked out of a finisher. The match was a fitting end to another great tournament.
