Tiffany’s WWE SmackDown Takes: Who Is After Roman Reigns?

The attack on Roman Reigns is officially the top story on WWE television this week, and Tiffany has takes on this week’s Smackdown!

It’s been no secret for the past several years that some people don’t like Roman Reigns. There has been a segment of fans that have refused to accept him as WWE’s top guy, and he certainly has had more than his share of issues with people, ranging from John Cena to Samoa Joe. However, other than Braun Strowman, none of these people have actively tried to kill or seriously injure Reigns, until now.

Last week, someone dumped a piece of equipment on Reigns, though he escaped injury and WWE initially blamed it on the forklift driver, until it was discovered that the driver was off that day, which makes WWE look like the Keystone Kops. On Monday, Reigns narrowly avoided serious injury when a car tried to run him down in the parking lot of Monday Night RAW. Only Reigns’ instinctive dive back into his rental saved him from serious injury.

So the question is: Who is so angry at Reigns that they would try and take him out permanently? Many people have assumed that it was Samoa Joe, who Reigns had been fighting earlier on SmackDown and who had been confronting Reigns on RAW, but not only was Joe also nearly hit on Monday, he was the first person to check on Reigns, seeming to break character to make sure his rival was alright. In fact, the reason why Joe was confronting Reigns was because he was OUTRAGED that he was being accused of being the person behind the attack on Reigns on SmackDown, despite no one accusing him of anything outside of having an ugly haircut.

I liked that Reigns admitted that the situation with his mystery attacker was more nerve-wracking than any of the other stuff he’d gone through because he didn’t know what was going on. With cancer, he knew what was going on. I also liked him apologizing to Samoa Joe, even though no one ever accused Joe of being the attacker.

I like that Roman is taking the initiative in this and we get confirmation that Daniel Bryan and Erick Rowan are the prime suspects due to Buddy Murphy’s claim that he saw Rowan at the scene of one of the incidents, and since Rowan is a professional lackey, it stands to reason that Bryan is the mastermind behind it. Now, this is possibly great news for the fans clamoring for Bryan and Reigns to have another feud like the mini one they had in 2015 leading up to FastLane, but it also raises questions about why. It also leaves us with Roman Reigns not having a match at SummerSlam for the first time since 2013.

I’m not really sure what to think of this, to be honest. I’d almost like to think that it’s a swerve and Buddy Murphy has been the one behind the attacks and is framing Bryan and Rowan. I say this because Bryan and Rowan didn’t exactly exude ‘Oh shit, we got caught’. They looked as perplexed as the rest of us. Could it be a ruse? Sure, but either situation could work and it gives SmackDown a very interesting storyline coming out of SummerSlam. I just wish it had been given more time.
