Andrew’s IMPACT Results & Match Ratings: 9.2.2021

Now last week the YouTube stream mired what would’ve been an alright show into an unwatchable trash can. We can only hope this week is better especially with the X Division open challenge!

Aside from looking forward to seeing if we get a real former X Division Champion we haven’t seen in a minute, or if it’s just gonna be Suicide, we’ve got the Ace Austin angle. Ace decided to run his mouth against Christian and Tommy Dreamer, so Dreamer got a chance to prove himself. If Dreamer wins the match, he gets added to the Heavyweight Championship match at Victory Road.

Results:

The Influence (Madison Rayne, Tenille Dashwood & Kaleb) vs Taylor Wilde, Rachael Ellering & Jordynne Grace

So we had to have an idea how this was going to work, right? Kaleb took most of the bumps, Madison and Tenille took advantage of a few easy spots to take shots; but then Kaleb came back in and got pinballed.

Madison and Tennile tried to make a daisy chain on the outside to stop Kaleb from being suplexed, but Rachael and Jordynne broke them up, Taylor hit her Bridging Suplex and the match was over.

Works for the story they’re telling, but a little too paint by numbers and awkward comedy to be anything resembling good. But it worked to further the story.

Decay (Black Taurus & Crazzy Steve) w/Rosemary vs Fallah Bahh & No Way Jose

Tasha was in the conga line, and flies into the ring and hits a Codebreaker on Steve before the bell sounds and things are a little crazy before coming back from commercial and getting going.

This was a surprisingly competitive match where Fallah seemed to be slowly learning that the fans appreciate Decay way more the NO NO NO Way (or whatever they’re calling themselves). There was some solid tandem moves and both Fallah and No Way had their moments when it seemed like Tasha’s early involvement would pay off. Fallah was about to finish Steve, but Steve bites Fallah and then hits the King Kill 33.

Moose comes out for a promo aimed at Eddie Edwards and how people want to be heroes. But the heroes are Imbeciles, he’s a monster/wrestling God and then throws the challenge out to Eddie. So of course Eddie comes out to answer. Eddie and Moose fight, Eddie breaks Kenny over Moose and then Massive Cassidy comes out to confirm the new power team in IMPACT.

X Division Championship Open Challenge: Josh Alexander (c) vs Jake Crist

Jake Crist is a surprising return since he left during the Speaking Out movement named his brother I believe in some questionable things, so Jake took time away as well. The crowd popped and the match was really interesting. Early on Josh set the pace and caught Jake in mid move quite often.

But after a little time, Jake started stringing together quite a bit of offense and got a little cocky. We got to see a small glimmer of the Golden Draw before Josh caught him and started Suplexing his shoes off. A Bell Clap stopped Jake from blocking, one more German Suplex and then the C4 Spike ends the open challenge!

Josh decrees that he wants to be the best X Division Champion, so Sabin walks out. He took umbrage with that, and challenges Alexander for Victory Road.

Ahh soo this is what Zicky Dice is doing at the moment. I…don’t know if that’s better than NWA…News at 11.

Rohit Raju & Shera vs Matt Cardona & Chelsea Green

 This continued the story in an interesting way. Last week no one was sure where Shera stood, but Shera refused to hit a woman, no matter what she said or did to him. Rohit on the other hand, didn’t care.

So Cardona takes advantage of Shera’s lack of wanting to his Chelsea, and hits Radio Silence while Shera is trying to move Chelsea fairly gently. Rohit posts Cardona and then poses, Chelsea tries to hit the Unprettier since her and Rohit are legal at this point, Rohit pushes her into the ropes, she comes off and the Jumping Knee lands flush. Rohit…gets the pinfall victory.

Shera looks as surprised as I do right now.

The Good Brothers come out, chide and cackle at Willie Mack and Rich Swann. They try to brush off their non-title loss last week, take pot shots at Willie Mack; and then Rich Swann comes out with a chair and security needs to pull them apart.

Ace Austin w/Madman Fulton vs Tommy Dreamer

Dreamer did his usual Flip Flop and Fly early on, Ace tried to get cute and dodge the elbow and do his own; but Dreamer stopped that and then hit the Bionic Elbow a little delayed. Dreamer manages to send Ace over the top rope and do a good job at setting the early pace.

Ace’s youth, agility and speed comes into play and he starts to take the match over. It looks like Ace is going to put things away early, but Dreamer catches him with a Cutter in mid Fold. Thanks to Madman, Ace’s foot is under the ropes to break the count. Dreamer goes to the outside to take care of Fulton, and as he ducks under the ropes to get back in, Ace hits The Fold out of nowhere and wins the match.

The finish was really cool, and the match was decent given Dreamer’s limitations. Plus it helps Ace look really good going into Victory Road.

Overall Score: 7/10

Well hey, the stream wasn’t laggy and the stories took an interesting turn. Su and Kimber showed that they converted Brandi Lauren instead of eating her, Rohit and Shera got a win over the Cardonas which finally adds some back and forth there, Fallah and No Way might be out of the weird dynamic against Decay now that TJP approached them. Also is worth mentioning the fact that I fished my wish a little with Moose and Massive Cassidy making a tenuous alliance.

Victory Road is shaping up to be a solid show, but it’s still a couple weeks away. Should also be kind of fun to see what kind of role Zicky Dice plays once he gets through Myers’ most professional gut check.
