AEW shares highlights of ROH Death Before Dishonor

“Seven Star FTR” fought their hearts out in the Best 2 Outta 3 Falls against the Briscoes, and they retained the ROH World Tag Team Championships. Pro-wrestling is their life, and they are perhaps the greatest tag team ever. But then, who is next for the TRIPLE CHAMPIONSHIP Top Guys?

Ethan Page VS Leon Ruffin!

All Ego wants to prove he is still a force to be reckoned with in AEW, to where he doesn’t even have Dan Lambert with him! Will Ethan take care of business all on his own? Or will the underdog turn things around from their Dark: Elevation showdown?

The bell rings and Ruffin rushes in! But Ethan catches him to RAM him into a corner! Ethan RAMS into Ruffin again, fires off forearms, then DECKS him with a shot! Ruffin flounders, Ethan drags him up and TOSSES him, to then run him over! Ethan talks trash on Ruffin while he looms over him. Ethan drags Ruffin up, hauls him up to the Canadian rack and the crucifix, EGO’S EDGE!! Cover, Ethan wins!

Winner: Ethan Page, by pinfall

Ethan doesn’t even take time to celebrate. Ethan is shouting at the cameras, is All Ego demanding AEW give him more?

Backstage interview with Cole Karter.

Lexi Nair says it has only been awhile since he’d been in AEW, but he already has his first win through AEW Dark. He is now the “New and improved” Cole Karter, but QT Marshall and The Factory walk over. QT congratulates Karter on being all grown up now. Last time QT remembers him, Ogogo put his fist through Karter’s ribs. But that night, QT saw something in him. Only for Karter to disappear on them. QT hears Karter was hanging around with the wrong crowd. But QT still sees something in Karter, so here’s an offer he can’t refuse. How about Karter joins The Factory? No, don’t answer now. Karter should sleep on it. But in his bed, not with the fishes.

The Factory leaves and Karter is fuming, but what will be his decision?

Lee Moriarty VS Matt Sydal!

#TYGASTYLE greatly disappointed his mentor when he cheated to beat Dante Martin 1v1. Now, the teacher is taking it upon himself to punish his former protégé. Will Sydal-sensei strike down Moriarty with love, peace and pro-wrestling? Or will Moriarty show he has surpassed Sydal and become the new master?

The bell rings and Moriarty is mocking peace. Sydal still shakes Moriarty’s hand to show that this isn’t personal, but then Moriarty HEADBUTTS Sydal down! Moriarty fires off forearms and uppercuts! Sydal flounders and Moriarty does some rope-a-dope. Moriarty KICKS Sydal, suplexes him high and hard, then claps with the fans. Fans fire up and Moriarty wrenches an arm to an ELBOW BREAKER! Sydal drags Moriarty up but Moriarty RAMS him into railing! Moriarty drags Sydal up, clinches, EuroUppers hard, then whips him into more railing! Sydal writhes and grits hits teeth but Moriarty waits for him to rise. Moriarty then runs in to BOOT Sydal!

Sydal clutches his face while floundering on the ground. Moriarty puts him in the ring, then rear mounts to rain down forearms! Moriarty shows off his forearms while he stomps around. But Sydal BOOTS him, KICKS him, so Moriarty WRINGS out an arm! Moriarty drags Sydal around by his arm and stands on Sydal’s head! Sydal suffers as Rampage goes to break.

Rampage returns and now Sydal has Moriarty in a corner. Sydal whips corner to corner, runs in but into an elbow! Moriarty runs but into a RANA! He rolls through to a sunset flip, TWO! Fans fire up while both men are down. Moriarty and Sydal slowly stand, Moriarty runs but Sydal ducks under the boot to slip around and ROUNDHOUSE! Sydal then hooks Moriarty up, but Moriarty slips out and around, PEPSI TWIST! Fans fire up as both men are down again! Fans fire up as Sydal survives! But Moriarty hammers away on Sydal! Then BORDER CITY STRETCH!! Sydal endures the over-the-shoulder but he TAPS! Moriarty wins!

Winner: Lee Moriarty, by submission

Moriarty makes Sydal suffer more, but Stokely’s the one who calls Moriarty off. #TYGASTYLE moves past his former mentor, because he’s got a new manager! Is Stokely starting to assemble quite the stable in AEW?

AEW hears from Britt Baker.

“The forecast next Wednesday’s Dynamite calls for a Thunder Storm, so let’s break that down. Thunder, you feel in the air now what we’ve all felt for quite some time now, and that’s your title reign just might be coming to an end. I mean, you already slipped up once in Japan, right? But what impresses me is how smart you are. How smart you are to keep Toni Storm, the girl who’s dangerously capable of dethroning you, close to your side. And Toni, pretty silly of you to be nice and cozy there to the carny who has everything you should want most. But I’ll leave that to you two to discuss. See you next week.” The Doctor is stirring up trouble, but will it only make Thunder & Storm rain down on her harder this Wednesday?

Tony Schiavone introduces the NEW ROH World Champion, Claudio Castagnoli!

The Swiss Cyborg dethroned the Foundation, Jonathan Gresham, at ROH Death Before Dishonor and finally reaches that world title level! He also has Sir William Regal, of course, and Schiavone says the Blackpool Combat Club has collected a lot of gold. The fans chant “You Deserve It!” and Schiavone congratulates Claudio on the win. How does it feel to be a world champion? Claudio takes the mic and takes a moment to soak it all in. “Let me just get this right out of the way, without sounding like a broken record. Danke, grazie, merci beaucoup, and thanks to all of you!

“There was many times that I doubted myself, and I wasn’t sure if I was going to make it to where I want to. But you guys never let me down, you were always there for me, so thank you very much. It feels amazing to stand in front of you… Actually, it’s an honor to stand in front of you as the ROH World Champion!” Claudio promises that this is just the beginning, but someone else had a tremendous night at DBD. So please welcome his fellow BCC member and still ROH Pure Champion, WHEELER YUTA! Fans fire up to get this special surprise from The Decoder! Yuta joins Claudio in the ring, and Claudio hands him the mic.

Fans rally for Yuta, but then Jericho interrupts from commentary! “Enough already! Enough already!” Jericho says they can’t expect him to sit and listen to everyone chant for Yuta. And then, “You Deserve It!” for Claudio! What they deserve is Jericho’s boot up their ass! He’s said it before and he’ll say it again: sports entertainers beat pro-wrestlers- Yuta shouts, “Chris! Just shut up!” Fans cheer that, too! Yuta knows what Jericho will say: sports entertainers beat pro-wrestlers every time, except last Saturday, when Yuta beat Jericho’s boy, Daniel Garcia, to retain the ROH Pure Championship! Fans also cheer that.

Yuta says he’ll be honest, that match built his confidence. Yuta knows he can beat Garcia, and Yuta is pretty sure he could beat Jericho, too! Jericho is stunned but then amused. Fans chant for Yuta but Jericho says, “You think you can beat the great Chris Jericho?” “Yeah, I can beat you, Chris.” “You can’t beat me. Ever.” Oh, that sounds like he’s scared. Jericho probably also knows Yuta can beat him. Claudio agrees, Yuta CAN beat Jericho. Regal agrees, Yuta CAN beat Jericho. What do the people of Worcester think? Can Yuta beat Jericho? “YES! YES!” Then Yuta CAN beat Jericho! SHUT YOUR MOUTH, YUTA! You can’t beat Jericho!!

Fans say yes but Jericho says no. But if Yuta wants to try it, then Yuta VS Jericho on Dynamite! Yuta then says, “Nah.” What? You don’t want a match? Yuta doesn’t need it, he knows he can win. Jericho says Yuta can’t beat Jericho! Yuta keeps saying yes, Jericho says no, and then Jericho gets pissed. Jericho is so sure he can beat Yuta, beyond the shadow of a doubt, because he’s The Wizard! Jericho will put up his title match with Jon Moxley at Quake by the Lake! If Yuta wins, YUTA gets that shot! Well, that was easier than Yuta thought. JERICHO’S ON!! The Decoder just goaded Jericho into a high stakes match, will Yuta take away that title shot from Le Champion?

The Acclaimed debut their new music video!

Bowens & Caster wear trash collector jumpsuits, “Let’s take out the trash.”

“Gunn Club wasn’t gettin’ over on their own. Hang with The Acclaimed, they get noticed on the show. I’mma beat you in the street, I’mma throw you on the floor, I’mma leave you on the curb, yo, these bitches gotta go. This is trash day, hope you have a bad day. Ass Boys, me ‘n’ Anthony will make yer ass pay! Trash day, leave you with a sad face. The Acclaimed, got it in the bag, ‘ey!

“The Acclaimed, we just taking out the trash. All you Amber Heard will be paying out the ass. Now I realize why you guys want to hang with us. Me ‘n’ Bowens, we just making dudes Famouser. Ass Boys, you already pathetic. Yo, your dad is Billy Gunn, you got genetic genetics. Y’all’re so garbage, y’all’re so sickening, throw you on the mat and I’m literally littering. Trash day, hope you have a bad day. Ass Boys, me ‘n’ Anthony will make yer ass pay. Trash day, leave you with a sad face. The Acclaimed, got it in the bag, ‘ey!

“Taking out the Ass Boys, got the whole crowd making mad noise. Oh, you didn’t know? Trash day! Gunn control is all over the country. I support it if you throw away these two Gunns clean. Billy, I’mma jump your sons! Yo, you shoulda shot blanks from your smoking gun! But since the Ass Boys ain’t nothing but trash, we got two words for ya: DUMPSTER MATCH! Trash day!”

That’s right! To settle the score with the Sons of Gunn, The Acclaimed wants a match with no disqualifications, no count outs, and the only way to win is to dump both opponents into a dumpster! Will they reduce, reuse and RETIRE the Gunn Club?

BREAKING NEWS for Battle of the Belts III!

Claudio Castagnoli’s first ROH World Championship defense will be part of #SaturdayFightNight, and it will be against The Future, Konosuke Takeshita!

Mark Henry speaks with tonight’s main eventers!

The World’s Strongest Man notes that just last week- Anna Jay speaks up, saying no one wants to hear from Ruby Soho. Everyone wants to hear from the Star of the Show! It’s kinda Anna’s thing, y’know? But uh, Ruby, “bestie,” can’t wait to share the ring with you again. Except this time, Anna doesn’t have to act like she likes her. Taynara slammed Ruby’s hand in that car door, then encouraged Anna to make better choices for herself. And she thinks slamming Ruby’s head into a ring post was the best decision so far.

Ruby says that she had high hopes for Anna. Tay was a lost cause from the start, but Anna was different. Anna reminded Ruby of herself when she first started. But it turns out, Anna’s just “another one of these entitled little sh*ts who thinks she knows everything.” Eddie Kingston has always told Ruby she is only as good as the company she keeps. So Ruby suggests that Anna leaves the Circle Jerk Society in the back and face Ruby 1v1. Oh? Ruby wants that? Fine! But Ruby doesn’t know Anna! Anna learned the dark side from Mr. Brodie Lee, and she is learning another dark side from Chris Jericho. This is the NEW Anna Jay! ANNA J A S! And she’s gonna choke you out!

Well there’s been enough talk. Time for the main event! Will the Runaway get Anna Jay to run away from Jericho’s faction? Or will the Star of the Show still be the Queenslayer?

Anna Jay VS Ruby Soho!

The bell rings, and of course Jericho says “Anna JAS” is his Sports Entertainer of the Week. Anna and Ruby circle, tie up, and Anna throws Ruby down by her hair! Ruby avoids the Penalty Kick and shields the bad arm. Fans rally for Ruby and she circles with Anna. Anna wants the bad arm, Ruby keeps it away and she waistlocks. Ruby then headlocks, grinds the hold, but Anna powers out. Ruby runs Anna over and fans fire up! Things speed up, Ruby rolls over Anna’s drop down to then wrench the arm. Anna blocks No Future but Ruby avoids the elbow drop! Ghost pin, TWO! Anna hurries up but Ruby CHOPS her!

Ruby CHOPS again, and again! Fans fire up, Ruby whips, but Anna reverse to HOOK- NO, Ruby blocks that, slips around and KNEES Anna! Anna staggers to a corner, but she avoids Ruby’s attack. Ruby elbows Anna, goes up, but Anna blocks Nightshade to tuck Ruby in and stand her up! SUPERKICK to the bad hand! Ruby falls down and Anna runs to somersault and GAMANGIRI! Anna waves to the fans while they boo and Rampage goes picture in picture.

Ruby flounders and Anna PENALTY KICKS the bad arm! Ruby writhes and clutches the hand as she gets to a corner. Ruby kicks at Anna but Anna stomps her down! The ref counts, Anna lets off at 4 and she taunts Ruby to get up. Ruby crawls, Anna puts the bad arm around the ropes and pulls! The ref counts, Anna lets off at 4, and she mocks Ruby before stomping her back down. Anna drags Ruby up, whips her to ropes, but Ruby sunset flips! Anna sits on it to SLAM the arm! And again! Cover, TWO! Ruby clutches her arm but Anna SLAMS it down again. Ruby kicks at Anna again and again, but Anna DECKS Ruby with a forearm! And SLAMS the bad arm again!

Anna drags Ruby by the bad arm, SLAMS the arm again, and again! Anna smiles at the fans before she drags Ruby up. Anna ROCKS Ruby with a forearm in the corner! Anna whips corner to corner, runs in and back elbows! Ruby falls over and Anna covers, TWO! Anna clamps on a top wristlock but Ruby endures. Ruby fights up, but Anna wrangles her back down! Anna grinds the hold but Ruby fights her way up again. Ruby throws body shots, then ROCKS Anna with that left forearm! Ruby runs, but into a clinch, COMPLETE SHOT! And then a FUJIWARA! Ruby endures as Anna claws at the hand brace!

Rampage returns to single picture as Anna pulls the brace off! Anna SLAMS the hand on the mat! And then she wants to choke Ruby with the brace! The ref snatches that away and reprimands, but Ruby fires off forearms! Anna shoves Ruby, Ruby gets around and lifts. But the bad hand holds the suplex back! Anna SUPERKICKS Ruby again! Anna runs, but Ruby gets around, SAIDO! Even with the bad arm, Ruby takes Anna down! Fans fire up and Ruby fires herself up to fight through the pain. Ruby sits Anna up to SLAP her! Anna SLAPS back! Ruby SLAPS, Anna knuckle locks the bad hand! Anna grins as she twists the wrist, but Ruby HEADBUTTS!

Anna cranks the wrist, but Ruby HEADBUTTS again! Anna keeps on the wrist, Ruby keeps the HEADBUTTS coming! Ruby then stomps a foot, then the other foot, then SOBATS and front kicks! Anna swings but Ruby spins her. Anna blocks the forearm but Ruby knees low! Ruby runs, YAKUZA KICKS, then hits an STO! Cover, TWO! Anna is still in this but fans rally behind Ruby. Ruby drags Anna up, turns her, and hooks her up. But Anna slips out to hook the arms, Gory Especial to a GORY BOMB! Learned that from Tay, did she? Cover, TWO! Anna is frustrated but she SUPERKICKS again! Cover, TWO!!

Anna shout at the fans, she’ll choke them all out! But first, she’ll get Ruby! QUEENSLAYER!! Ruby flails, pushes back, has the cover, TWO!! Ruby hurries to wrench and NO FUTURE!! Cover, TWO!!! Anna survives but barely! Ruby snarls, kicks Anna around, and climbs up the corner. Ruby is up top, for the SUPER SENTON but it FLOPS! QUEENSLAYER!! But Ruby holds off the left arm with both of hers! So Anna CLUBS Ruby with crossface forearms from the right! Anna throws off her armbands and while the ref is busy picking those up, Anna gets Ruby’s brace! ARM BRACE QUEENSLAYER!! Anna’s own arms hide the evidence!!

Ruby flails, turns red and passes out!! Anna wins!!

Winner: Anna Jay, by submission

The Star of the Show steals the match, and Jericho is proud of her! Anna mockingly waves and gives thumbs up to the fans, will Anna continue to use this dark side to take over AEW?

My Thoughts:

A great Rampage to top off Fight for the Fallen. I was a little surprised the Trios Match was the opener, but it was still great stuff. Satnam Singh got to look very strong, but of course Sonjay took the loss. Lethal and friends stand tall against Best Friends in the end, but it was great to see Wardlow rush out there. Wardlow respects Cassidy enough to stand up for him, and also we’re definitely getting Wardlow VS Lethal for the TNT Championship. And y’know what? It’s probably for Battle of the Belts III. That’ll be an awesome match, as will Claudio VS Konosuke. That will be a great first defense for Claudio, then he can face ROH stars the closer we get to more ROH programming.

We also got really good stuff out of the BCC and Jericho. I love that Yuta goaded Jericho into a match, and I like that Jericho doubled-down by putting up his shot against Moxley. I have a feeling Jericho finds a way to win, and if it’s through cheating, that will just get the feud between Jericho and Moxley more heat. Ethan squashes Ruffin, which is a shame given how good their Elevation match was. But Ethan is trying to make a point both in kayfabe and in reality that he should be doing more. Honestly, why wasn’t he next up to feud with Wardlow for the TNT Championship after Scorpio Sky lost? It writes itself as far as I’m concerned.

The Factory picking on Cole Karter was delivered well, but I guess them poking fun at his time in NXT is too much for them to pass up. Plus, The Factory is a Heel faction, of course Heels are going to make fun of someone for stuff like that. I would think Karter says no to QT’s offer and then he feuds with the various members, but I’m not sure where things go from there. Good promo from Britt to hype up the coming tag match, and she of course wants to tear #ThunderStorm apart since they’ll surely just beat her again and keep her from the title. But I have a feeling it works out in her favor so that she and Hayter can win.

Great music video from The Acclaimed, and a Dumpster Match as the choice was a nice surprise. The Acclaimed probably wins that to win their first feud as Faces and move on to even bigger Heels. Moriarty VS Sydal was great stuff, and they took the natural next step here with Stokely helping Moriarty win, and then officially becoming his manager. Stokely also scouting Ethan, I like that Stokely is being ambitious as a manager and wanting to expand the stable beyond The Baddies. And not to keep harping on AEW not giving us enough from the women’s division, but branching into the men’s division will get Stokely more TV time, too. Just saying.

Of course, the irony is that the women main evented tonight. Really good promo before the main event, and then a great main event itself. Anna shifted to a Heel persona very easily, and they did a great job of playing up Ruby’s bad hand. Anna uses a very clever cheat to win, and this will escalate the feud. I’m not sure how this will end, but maybe there’s a Mixed Tag in the future.

My Score: 8.6/10
