Winner: Dustin Rhodes, by pinfall
The Natural makes it through, but he took some damage doing it. Will Dustin be able to finally grab some gold here in AEW?
BREAKING NEWS for Collision!
As La Mera Mera continues her comeback, as well as her pursuit of title opportunities, she is back in action against Lady Frost! Will Thunder Rosa be the one that freezes up? Or will she prove she has ice in her veins and fire in her heart as she looks to go after the gold?
Bullet Club Gold speaks.
They get their camera working, and the Gunns say look who just arrived! Jay White and the golden baseball bat walk up and Switchblade says this must be family dinner at Daddy Ass’s house! Oh yes it is! Wait, is this illegal? Like, breaking and entering? Calm down, man, it isn’t illegal when you’re related. They walk in through the garage, compliment each other on their matching merch shirts, and then step inside to say hi! Hmm, is no one home? Austin says, “Mi papa’s casa es tu casa.” It does look nice. But don’t worry, he won’t do too much damage. He does make a mess, knocking bottles off the counter and throwing candy around.
The Switchblade says he just wants to check in on ol’ Billy since no one’s seen him on TV since White knocked him in the head. Footage of the moment is already playing on the TV! Oh hey, here’s his protein powder. Austin holds up the trash bin and Colten throws ’em in like free throws. Kobe! White says there is no photos here of Caster & Bowens! The two guys talking about the man that they shouldn’t! The two guys that act like they can talk down to White and question White’s reputation. They want The Catalyst? The Last Rock ‘n’ Rolla? The man who singlehandedly sold out Madison Square Garden and the United Center?
Ask and you shall receive! Just don’t forget what happened to the last guy that asked. That man left with his ankle shattered to pieces, just like his wild hopes and dreams of Everest! But if Acclaimed want the same fate, if they want to step up to the plate, then BCG will gladly tee off on all three of you, and take your AEW World Trios Championships! And now, White’s a bit fired up, he does feel like causing some damage. He wants to leave a note so that Daddy Ass knows the Switchblade was here. White’s been practicing his baseball swing all week! UH OH! Daddy Ass walks in! And Mama Ass, too!
Billy asks WTF and the boys go running! Billy chases off his sons and their obnoxious friend, but the battle of trios champions is coming! Will the Bang Bang Gang soon be holding six belts? Or will Billy, Caster & Bowens finally put these Ass Boys in their place?
Deonna Purrazzo VS Rose!
The Virtuosa wants one more shot at Toni Storm for how she cheated her way out of losing the title. However, the team-up with Thunder Rosa, while victorious, didn’t quite go how she expected. Will Deonna prove she’s still part of the title scene? Or will she learn that every rose has its thorns?
The bell rings, the two circle, and they tie up. Deonna powers Rose to a corner, grinds her forearms in, but lets off as the ref counts. Deonna resets with Rose and they tie up again. Donne headlocks, hits a takeover, but then Rose rolls it to a cover. ONE and Deonna grinds the headlock. Rose fights up, powers Deonna to a corner now, and the ref counts. Rose lets off, but then fires palm strikes! Rose whips, Deonna reverses and runs in. Deonna blocks Rose’s boot, or rather bare foot, and then THROWS her down by her leg! Rose endures, the fans rally, and Rose fights up. Rose stands and arm-drags free! Rose CHOPS, CHOPS and fires off forearms! Rose has Deonna on ropes, then whips, but Deonna reverses to RUSSIAN LEG SWEEP! Cover, ONE!! Rose toughs it out but Deonna is just getting mad.
Deonna CHOPS, and CHOPS, and then has Rose in a corner. Deonna whips corner to corner, runs up, but Rose ELBOWS back! Rose winds up to SOBAT! AX KICK! KICK to the leg, and then BUZZ- NO, Deonna ducks and then BOOTS Rose down! Deonna drags Rose up, reels her in, and Gotch holds, but Rose wrenches free! Deonna ROCKS Rose, whips, but Rose reverses! Deonna BOOTS again, then runs up, BACK2BACKBREAKER, into the FUJIWARA ARMBAR! Rose taps, Deonna wins!
Winner: Deonna Purrazzo, by submission
Roses may have thorns, but Deonna has an edge, and she’s definitely sharpening it. But who will The Virtuosa cut down in order to establish her Dynasty?
Will Ospreay speaks.
In the aftermath of his match over Katsuyori Shibata, the Aerial Assassin makes it clear that he and Bryan Danielson both acknowledge The Wrestler as the measuring stick of this business. No one does it like Shibata. Bryan got a quick flash victory, but Ospreay points out the differences in his. Ospreay took all the punishment, still hit Storm Driver and Hidden Blade, got the 1-2-3, and it wasn’t a fluke, it was just him being better. April 21st can’t come soon enough! But before then, Don Callis has set up another Don Callis Family Feud! And this time, it is “A Battle of Wills!” That’s right, Will Ospreay VS Will Hobbs! Will the #BillyGoat survive the Powerhouse?
Mariah May w/ “Timeless” Toni Storm & Lulther VS Nikita!
Toni Storm’s superfan protege is continuing her cosplay, but also her win streak in AEW. But at least she has THE Toni Storm by her side and watching her match this time! Toni gets the mic to say, “Good evening. Please be seated. My name is Timeless Toni Storm, and I am your AEW Women’s World Champion. But unfortunately, I have some devastating news! I am not able to compete tonight.” The fans are upset but Storm says it is because she has injured her hamstring and she won’t dare tell us how. Nevertheless, taking her place this evening is her very capable protege, Mariah May! “Mariah, are you ready?” “YES!” “Excellent! On with the show!”
The fans troll Mariah that “You’re Not Toni!” but that’s obvious. Even so, will Mariah May make her role model proud? Or is the understudy taking this role a little too lightly?
The bell rings, the two circle, and they tie up. Mariah headlocks and noogies Nikita. Nikita powers up and hammerlocks but Mariah elbows her away. Mariah whips Nikita, runs Nikita over, then poses. Things speed up, Nikita arm-drags, but Mariah blocks the second! Mariah throws Nikita by her hair, poses again, then runs to SHOTGUN! Mariah struts around, then stalks Nikita to a corner. Storm dramatically observes from ringside as Mariah hits a SPINNING SIDEWALK SLAM! Mariah poses again then stalks Nikita. Mariah drags Nikita up, Storm continues to admire Mariah’s work, and Rampage goes picture in picture.
Mariah DUMPS Nikita out, struts around, then goes out to bring Nikita up. Mariah SMACKS Nikita off the apron, then brings her around to CHOP! Storm appreciates Mariah’s form, then makes sure the fans saw that. Mariah whips Nikita hard into railing! Mariah then stands Nikita up to CHOP her again! Mariah brings Nikita around, puts her in the ring, and then kicks her around. Mariah toys with Nikita, but Nikita fires off body shots! Mariah CLUBS Nikita down, bumps her off buckles, then digs her boot in. The ref counts, Mariah lets off at 4, then brings Nikita around. Mariah bumps Nikita off buckles to stomp a mudhole in!
Mariah digs her boot into Nikita, and pushes her halfway out of the ring! Storm applauds but the ref counts. Mariah lets off at 4, backs away, “apologizes,” then brings Nikita up. Mariah snap suplexes hard! Nikita writhes, Mariah struts around, and then Mariah kicks Nikita to ropes. Mariah CHOKES Nikita on the ropes, but lets off again as Rampage goes to break.
Rampage returns, Mariah has Nikita in the ropes and is bending her backwards! The ref counts, Mariah lets off, to then run and SHOTGUN Nikita in the back! Even Storm was amazed by that one! Mariah drags Nikita up, Nikita tries to hit back, but Mariah just taunts her. Nikita stands to throw forearms but Mariah ROCKS her! Mariah whips, Nikita ducks ‘n’ dodges, and she manages to LARIAT! Nikita fires haymakers on Mariah, then forearms and CHOPS! And CHOP! Nikita fires up, runs corner to corner, and SPLASHES! Then BULLDOGS! Cover, ONE!! Mariah is tougher than that, and Storm says they don’t do that here!
Storm coaches the “silly girl,” but Nikita has Mariah with underhooks! But Mariah wrenches free to HEADBUTT! A very classic Toni Storm move! Nikita falls, Mariah covers, TWO!! Nikita survives and Mariah is upset! Mariah snarls, Storm tells her to keep on Nikita, and Mariah stomps Nikita into the corner! Mariah goes corner to corner and back again, SWEET HIP MUSIC! But Mariah won’t leave it at that, she hauls Nikita up to a fireman’s carry. MAYDAY! Cover, Mariah wins!
Winner: Mariah May, by pinfall
Storm is pleased with her protege, and she steps into the ring to celebrate with her. Mariah’s streak continues, will she look to be the leading lady’s understudy in more ways than one?
Backstage interview with The Outcasts.
Specifically, Lexi Nair is with Harley Cameron and Zak Knight. Zak rejected Angelo Parker’s challenge for Collision a couple weeks ago, and Parker’s response was to say Zak was a coward. What are Zak’s thoughts on that? Well, of course Parker would resort to that. Zak’s a coward just for not fighting Parker in Parker’s hometown? Is Zak asking Parker to come to Norwich, England to fight Zak? No! What Parker should be thinking is how Zak is in Parker’s head. Because he is! Zak can see that sweat dripping down Parker’s brow! Zak already knows he has Parker beat. Hey, Harley, Cool Hand Ange doesn’t look too cool right now, does he?
Harley laughs at the joke, but then incoming! Cool Hand Ange’s hand ROCKS Zak across the face! And then he fires off more shots! The two brawl, Zak shoves Parker into a steel rack, then brings out the blackjack! Parker ducks that to then STEEL PIPE Zak! Zak runs away and Parker says he thought Zak likes to fight! Zak IS a coward! But then Parker turns around to see Ruby Soho standing there. Parker drops the pipe but he’s already caught red handed. Ruby says she’s partly to blame, isn’t she? She brought Parker into this mess, but she asked him for one thing and one thing only: to not go looking for a fight!
Ruby says there’s a reason Parker shouldn’t play The Outcasts’ game, but he wouldn’t listen. Ruby kisses Parker, but says she can’t be here for this. Was that a kiss goodbye? Did Saraya just get what she wanted after all?
The Righteous speak.
Vincent says, “A long time ago, being crazy used to mean something, man. Now everybody acts crazy!” Dutch says, “Life can be like a knife. Some situations cut deep if you’re not in control. And at some point, you gotta decide which side of the knife you’re on: the handle, or the blade.” What happened to them is painful, but that’s not a bad thing. Pain can teach you things. And they understand that now. The Righteous open their mystery box, and they bring out the old pair of sunglasses and the old crown of flowers. In order to fight through the pain, you gotta stare death in the eyes and see who blinks first. “That way, everyone else can see exactly who you are, and why you belong.”
Death walks, dig what they’re saying? The Righteous are ready to team alongside Lance Archer for Collision, but will they show the Blackpool Combat Club that #EverybodyDies?
AEW International Championship Eliminator: Roderick Strong w/ The Undisputed Kingdom VS Matthew Menard!
The Savior of the Backbreaker isn’t like Freshly Squeezed, obviously. So while he isn’t being a fighting champion exactly like Orange Cassidy, he’s still going to be a champion who fights. Will Roddy cross Menard off the list? Or will there be some Daddy Magic here in Canada?
The bell rings and the fans rally for “PAPA MAGIE!” Menard’s ribs are taped but Roddy’s arm is taped, too. The two circle, feel things out, and then tie up. Roddy arm-drags and then gloats, but the fans boo. Menard shakes that off, resets and tells Taven off in French! The fans cheer whatever he just called Taven, and that upsets Roddy. Then Menard throws the insult at Bennett! Roddy and Menard circle, then Menard tells Roddy the same thing! The two tie up, Roddy arm-drags again, and Roddy soaks up the heat. Menard resets with Roddy again, another tie up, and Roddy wrenches to wrangle Menard, and Roddy slaps Menard around.
Menard gets up to shove Roddy, so Roddy shoves back. Menard ROCKS Roddy with forearms! The fans fire up, Roddy headlocks but Menard powers out to arm-drag! Then another arm-drag! Then a CHOP! Menard whips, Roddy holds ropes and bails out! The fans boo as the Kingdom regroups, but Menard goes out after Roddy! Menard CLUBS Roddy, fires more forearms, and the fans fire up! Menard gets Roddy in a corner of the barriesr to throw more hand! Roddy scrambles away but Quebec is 100% behind Papa Magie! Menard puts Roddy on the apron to then throw down hands! But Taven distracts Menard!
Roddy gets up to BOOT Menard, CLUB him, then put him in a corner. Roddy whips corner to corner, runs up, but into an ELBOW! Menard goes up, leaps, and FLYING SHOULDER TACKLES! The fans fire up while Roddy tumbles! Menard fires up and the fans reignite! Menard keeps after Roddy while Rampage goes picture in picture.
Menard CHOPS Roddy in a corner, then fires up with the fans. Menard follows Roddy to another corner, brings him around, and scoops for a BACKBREAKER! Cover, TWO! Roddy tastes some of his own medicine and he bails out again. Menard storms out after Roddy, throws body shots, then ROCKS Roddy! Taven has his ROH World Tag title belt, but the ref stops him! Menard storms up on Roddy, puts him in the ring again, then goes back to the apron. They throw hands again, another distraction from the Kingdom, and now Roddy ENZIGIRIS! Then APRON BACKBREAKERS! Menard hits the edge then the floor!
The Kingdom is all fired up for Roddy while the ref checks Menard. The Kingdom does a lap together like Roddy already won or something. Roddy then comes back to drag Menard up, and then whip him hard into the LED barriers! Menard falls in a heap and The Kingdom taunts him. Roddy goes into the ring, flexes and soaks up the heat, and the ring count climbs. Menard is still down at 5 of 10, but he drags himself up using the steel steps. Taven doesn’t let Menard even look at the title belts, and Menard staggers into the ring. Roddy stomps Menard at the ropes, then soaks up more heat.
Menard slumps to the apron, but the Kingdom is there to taunt him. Menard kicks at them, gets in the ring, but Roddy is on him again! Roddy throws hands, then CHOPS Menard in a corner. Roddy CHOPS again, and again, then stomps and CLUBS away! Roddy stands on Menard and stomps the taped up back! The ref counts, Roddy steps away, and then he drags Menard up for a BACKBREAKER! Cover, TWO! Menard is still in this but Roddy stays on him with a chinlock. Then Roddy shifts to a cording hold, it’s almost a seated cobra twist. Rampage returns to single picture while the fans rally for “PAPA MAGIE!”
Menard endures, fights up, and throws body shots. Menard fires shots, the fans fire up, but Roddy CALF KICKS Menard down! Roddy stomps Menard, looms over him, then drags him into a CAMEL CLUTCH! Menard endures being bent back, but Taven holds up the International Championship like a banner for Roddy. Menard still fights around, fights free of the clutch but not the headlock. Menard throws body shots but Roddy KNEES Menard low! Menard falls and gasps for air while Roddy mockingly says, “C’mon, Daddy.” Roddy SLAPS Menard around, then stalks him to ropes. Roddy CLUBS Menard but Menard is firing up!
The fans fire up as Menard starts to hulk out! “YOU~!” Menard fires haymakers and forearms, then whips! Menard CLOBBERS Roddy, CLOBBERS him again, then CLOBBERS him again! The fans are thunderous as Menard has Roddy in a corner! Menard rains down fists, the fans count along in French, all the way to DIX! Roddy sits down, Menard STOMPS him! Menard runs corner to corner, then blocks Roddy’s lariat to an URENAGE! Cover, TWO!! Roddy survives, he hasn’t hit rock bottom just yet! The fans rally for Menard while he and Roddy are both down. Roddy sits up but Menard follows.
Menard stands first, and he brings Roddy around. But Roddy fights the lift! Roddy back drops free! Menard flounders, Roddy brings him up but Menard rolls him up! TWO!! Roddy escapes, kicks low, then fireman’s carries! GUTBUSTER DROP! Cover, TWO!! Menard shows his toughness and that frustrates The Kingdom. Roddy rises, but Menard trips him! Menard tries to turn Roddy over, and he does! WALLS OF JERICHO! The Kingdom do rock-paper-scissors on who distracts, and it’s Taven! The ref reprimands, Menard focuses on Roddy, so Roddy still has to fight his way to the ROPEBREAK!
Menard lets go of Roddy and now he storms up on Taven! But then Roddy runs up, and Menard dodges! The Strong Knee almost hits Taven! Roddy turns around into a DIAMOND CUTTER!! Cover, ROPEBREAK!! And that was all Roddy, too! Menard brushes it off, reels Roddy in again, but Taven again gets on the apron! So Menard DECKS him for it! Bennett gets up, Menard ELBOWS him down! But the STRONG KNEE hits the mark! Cover, Roddy wins!
Winner: Roderick Strong, by pinfall (denies Matt Menard a title match)
The Kingdom’s presence still factors into the decision, and now they’re beating up on Menard for pushing Roddy this far! Roddy even gets a chair! Fans boo but Bennett stomps Menard while Taven climbs. The Kingdom even scares the ref off, but wait! Best Friends rush out here! Trent SPEARS Bennett, and Cassidy ORANGE PUNCHES Taven! Roddy gets away with his International Championship, but will he be safe from Cassidy a little big longer? After all, Best Friends are facing The Young Bucks in the tag title tournament! Best Friends then HUG, because you GOT to give the people what they want!
Wait, who’s sliding into the ring now? Oh wait, it’s THE YOUNG BUCKS! And they DOUBLE LOW BLOW Trent & Cassidy!! The EVPs just had to get their moment onscreen, didn’t they? And now they sit Cassidy & Trent up for an E V P TRIGGER!! Matthew & Nicholas Jackson swagger around, having sent their message. Matt & Nick even cue the copyright box and end credits while giving thumbs up. Will nothing stop the Young Bucks from once again becoming AEW World Tag Team Champions? Or will they regret getting on Cassidy’s bad side?
My Thoughts:
A great Rampage, though most of the matches weren’t directly building story. Dustin VS Butcher was a great opener but that was only made from the promo on Dynamite and there doesn’t seem to be follow-up. Here’s hoping that somewhere along the way, Dustin really does get himself a title match. Even if he won’t win, he can definitely help add something to the title scenes. Deonna of course won a squash match, but it was clever that her opponent was Rose, when she really wants Thunder Rosa. She’ll surely get a match with Rosa, probably to determine Storm’s next challenger, and that could probably go either way.
Really good stuff from Storm and Mariah. Mariah of course wins her match but obviously the appeal is having her reference old school Toni while “Timeless” Toni continues to be melodramatic and over the top. I wonder if Storm will try to pull the “understudy” move when it actually comes time to defend the title against Deonna and/or Rosa. Really good “totally not illegal” breaking ‘n’ entering bit by Bang Bang Gang, and of course they get caught by Billy like they’re high school kids breaking house rules. I know ROH is treated as secondary, but I would hope Acclaimed raise the ante by wanting it to be titles for titles. Acclaimed becoming the first-ever dual AEW & ROH Six Man Champions would be awesome, and hey, if everyone loves The Acclaimed, then so will ROH.
Good promo from Ospreay to react to his own big win off Shibata, and pretty good promo from The Righteous, but it only just adds the bare minimum to their story here on AEW. Sadly, they are going to lose to Shibata, Claudio & Bryan, and were better off with Stu Grayson in ROH on their way to the ROH World Six Man titles, but Tony Khan felt he needed people in AEW to job to the big names. Anyway, the story of Ruby and Parker continues to take some dramatic turns as Ruby is trying to just get past The Outcasts when The Outcasts aren’t gonna let her. This is definitely part of the process of getting to her realizing the only way to end this is to fight back, and boom, Mixed Tag match.
Great main event, especially for Menard. He had the homefield advantage, he got to really show his stuff, but of course he lost with The Kingdom all running around. The Kingdom beating Menard down was a good excuse to get Best Friends out there, which I guess was also to be the excuse for The Bucks showing up. But now, unless something happens on Collision, go-home math says Best Friends win? I suppose The Bucks can still cheat to win and that would essentially negate the math, because the finals still have to be Bucks VS FTR, right?
My Score: 8.7/10
