AEW shares footage from after last Wednesday Night Dynamite.
Alicia Atout caught up with The Don Callis Family, and Rush was not pleased. El Toro Blanco asks what she wants! He’s not happy, alright?! NOT happy. Don Callis himself asks Rush what the hell happened out there! Rush LOST, on Dynamite, with Callis on commentary! This is not what Callis signed up for. Rush keeps talking about wanting to be the best, but is he willing to do what it takes? Does he really want to be the best? Rush says he IS ready! Oh, but is he willing to do anything to be that man? Anything? YES. Then no more talking, because Callis has booked Rush his last chance. Collision, Rush VS… PRESTON VANCE!
QUE?! Callis asks what’s the matter. Is Rush not willing to take on his former teammate, someone Rush considers a friend? Rush tells Callis that he will show Callis who Rush is, and that he can beat Vance. Callis says don’t just beat Vance, hurt him! Hospitalize him! Is Rush willing to do that? Or is he not willing to be the best? Rush again says he is ready. Good, because on Saturday, Rush is on his own. Show Callis something! Rush warns Vance that this fight is coming, cabron! They’re not family, so there’s no holding back! Is El Toro Blanco about to put down the Dangerous Dog?
AEW shares more footage from after Wednesday Night Dynamite.
Renee Paquette was there as Team Triple J returned backstage. Jeff Jarrett may have lost in Anything Goes, but he was reassured knowing he did everything in his power to get Bryan Danielson ready for Swerve Strickland. However, Hangman Page passed by, Jarrett tried to talk to him, and Hangman just fired off hands! Hangman threw Sonjay Dutt aside, brawled with Jay Lethal, and security got in there to break it up!
Jay Lethal responds.
“Adam Page, I am so sick and tired of watching you walk around here, doing whatever the hell you want, trying to terrorize the locker room. And I’m especially tired of watching you put your hands on my friend, Jeff Jarrett! I’d go so far as to say, I’ve had about enough of it! So if it’s a match that you’re looking for, Hangman, look no further! Because Wednesday on Dynamite, I’m stepping up to the plate. Now, I know, Hangman, that you love to fight. And I’ll be the first to admit, fighting has never been my strong suit. But when it comes to professional wrestling, I’m one of the freakin’ best.
“But hey, so are you. You’re a former AEW World Champion, so I think I speak for the both of us, Hangman, when I say Wednesday on Dynamite, this ain’t gonna be a walk in the park, my friend.” Lethal is ready to take the fight to The Black Hat, but will he just get a Buckshot for his troubles?
Wheeler Yuta VS Rocky Romero!
Speaking of dangerous, The Decoder has a dangerous opponent waiting for him on Dynamite, and it’s the same dangerous man Bryan Danielson will be facing at All In. The American Dragon is on commentary, will he like what he sees as Yuta prepares for Swerve Strickland? Or will Yuta be very sour after facing Azucar?
The bell rings and the two circle while the fans rally up. Yuta and Rocky tie up, go around, and they end up on ropes. They go around into the corner and the ref counts. Rocky lets off, and he CHOPS! Yuta CHOPS back! Then Yuta RUNS Rocky over! Cover, ONE, but Yuta goes for knuckle locks. Yuta makes that a cover, ONE as Rocky gets an arm up. Yuta puts the arm down, ONE as the other arm comes up. Yuta drags Rocky up, they go forehead to forehead and they scuff each other. But then Rocky MONKEY FLIPS! Rocky holds on, rolls back, but Yuta hops up to MONKEY FLIP in return! Yuta rolls back, into body scissors!
Rocky shifts and has the ARMBAR! Bryan says this is what he and Yuta were working on! Yuta fights around, slips around to waistlock, then he rolls forward to bring Rocky into body scissors! Rocky fights the sleeper, shifts around to knuckle lock, but Yuta kips up. Yuta kicks, wrenches, and trips Rocky to cover, ONE! Rocky headlocks for a takeover! Yuta headcissors, Rocky kips free, but roles reverse as Yuta hits a headlock takeover. Rocky headscissors, Yuta kips free, and then Yuta blocks the takeover to hit a SAIDO! The fans fire up while Rocky flounders. Bryan says that whenever someone goes for a headlock, there’s an opening to dump them on their head.
Yuta CHOPS Rocky in a corner, the fans “WOO~,” and Yuta CHOPS Rocky again. Yuta stalks Rocky to a corner, CHOPS, but Rocky CHOPS back! And CHOPS again! And CHOPS again! Yuta staggers, but he CHOPS back! Rocky headlocks, Yuta powers up and out, and then Yuta drops. Rocky slides under, but Yuta blocks a kick! Yuta ducks the enzigiri but not the REWIND HEEL! But speaking of, Yuta rewinds in the ropes, only for Rocky to UPPERCUT, then HAYMAKER! Yuta rewinds again while Rocky runs, and Yuta dodges to send Rocky out! Yuta then DIVES and he takes Rocky down! The fans fire up and Yuta snarls.
Rampage goes picture in picture as Yuta storms over to Rocky. Yuta RAMS Rocky into railing, CHOPS him, and he brings Rocky around. Yuta scoops and SLAMS Rocky, then stands on his face. The fans cheer but the ref reprimands. Yuta lets off, Rocky gets up, and Rocky throat chops! Yuta coughs, but he comes back to CLUB Rocky. Yuta whips, Rocky stops himself from hitting steps, and Rocky ELBOWS Yuta back. Rocky cravats, uses the steps now, and he hits SLICED BREAD to the floor! The ref checks Yuta, and he’s okay to continue. Rocky puts Yuta in the ring, then KNEES him in the back! Rocky paces, then KNEES Yuta again!
Rocky drops KNEES, then covers, TWO! Rocky kicks at Yuta, CHOPS him, but Yuta stands to CHOP back! Rocky puts Yuta on ropes but Yuta fights the waistlock. Rocky falls back, runs in, but into a SUPERKICK! Yuta runs up but Rocky TOSSES him to the apron! Rocky KCIKS Yuta in the ropes, then goes up for some Latino Heat. GUILLOTINE DROPKICK! Yuta flounders, Rocky pushes him to a cover, TWO! Yuta stays in this, and Rocky slides to taunt him. Rocky then goes back for Yuta, to ROCK him with a forearm! Yuta staggers and Rampage goes to break.
Rampage returns and Rocky has Yuta down with a chinlock. The fans rally as Yuta endures and reaches out, and we see Swerve watching this closely. Rocky drags Yuta back down, but Yuta still fights around. Yuta rises, fires body shots, and he CHOPS! Bryan says Swerve surely thinks Yuta is light work, “but Yuta’s a handful.” Yuta whips, Rocky reverses, and Rocky runs in at the corner. Yuta goes up and over, then CHOPS Rocky down! The fans fire up and Yuta runs up, into a drop toehold! Yuta gets buckles, then Rocky runs in to LARIAT! Rocky keeps going, and he LARIATS again! Rocky keeps going, but Yuta dodges and LARIATS Rocky down!
The fans fire up while both Yuta and Rocky are down. Bryan says this is what Yuta has improved the most on. Yuta can keep up with heavy hitters, and Swerve will be surprised to see just how hard Yuta hits. A standing count starts, both men rise at 4 of 10, and they go forehead to forehead. Rocky ROCKS Yuta, but Yuta comes back. Rocky ROCKS Yuta again, but still Yuta comes back! Rocky ROCKS Yuta a third time, but Yuta ROCKS, CHOPS and repeat! Rocky CHOPS, Yuta CHOPS, the fans fire up as the CHOPS go faster and faster and faster! Rocky SOBATS, runs, but into an atomic drop! ENZIGIRI! Chicken wings!
Bryan knows Yuta wants Cattle Mutilation but Rocky elbows free! Rocky whips, Yuta reverses but Rocky tilt-o-whirls! Only for Yuta to block and make it a SWINGING DDT! Cover, TWO! Rocky survives but Yuta stays focused. Yuta goes up a corner, but Rocky UPPERCUTS first! Rocky climbs, fires hands, but Yuta BITES a hand! The ref reprimands, but Yuta fireman’s carries Rocky! Rocky CLUBS free, then jumps to SUPER STEINER! The fans fire up, Rocky runs in, SLICED BREAD! Cover, TWO!! Yuta survives and Bryan cheers him on. Rocky roars, drags Yuta up, and cravats again. To the corner for SLICED- N O, Yuta pops him around into the CROSS LEG DRIVER!!
Yuta rains down HAMMER ‘N’ ANVIL ELBOWS, then hooks the arms into CATTLE MUTILATION!! Rocky taps, Yuta wins!
Winner: Wheeler Yuta, by submission
Yuta is still fired up, and Bryan says Yuta is ready. Swerve doesn’t seem concerned, but will it be a very different story when he experiences The Decoder firsthand?
Backstage interview with Willow Nightingale.
Renee Paquette is with the Babe with the Power, and brings up that unfortunately, Willow took a loss to Kris Statlander, albeit with help from Stokely Hathaway. But now a CMLL Women’s World Championship match is set, what is Willow’s current frustration level with those two? Willow says she was heartbroken for a long time, but “frustration” is definitely the word for this. She valued Statlander’s friendship so much, she trusted her, cared for her, loved her, they made an incredible team! Until Stokely came along. Now it’s like Stat’s a different person.
In steps Tomohiro Ishii! He says Stokely is a “bakayarou,” aka a dumbass. So Ishii doesn’t like Stokely either? Willow gets an idea. She asks Ishii if he has any plans for All In. Are the Babe with the Power and the Stone Pitbull about to take a big bite out of “Big Stoke” and the Galaxy’s Greatest Traitor?
Private Party VS The Dawson Brothers!
Marq Quen & Isiah Kassidy have been doing their best to get back on track toward tag team championships, but between injuries, a Jericho Vortex and a detour through The MXM Collection, it’s hard out here for a player. But where there’s a will, there’s a way, so will Quen & Zay make a way? Or will brothers Zane & Dave crash the party before it begins?
The teams sort out and Zay starts against Dave with the shaved head. They circle, Zay dodges Dave and calls for “SHOTS! SHOTS! SHOTS!” The fans chant along, but Dave says he’ll do shots. The fans cheer as he joins in! But then Dave TOSSES Zay to a corner! Dave then whips Zay corner to corner, runs up, but Zay dodges! Tag to Quen, Zay dropkicks the legs out! Quen slingshot SENTONS Dave, then thrusts those “SHOTS!” at Zane! Quen climbs up on Dave in the corner, he and Zay rain down fists! The ref counts, Zane storms up, but Quen CROSSBODIES, into Zane’s arms! Zane pops Quen up, but Quen lands out!
Quen scoops!? But he falls over under Zane’s weight! Dave DECKS Zay, then he drags Quen up. Dave ROCKS Quen, tags Zane, and now the Dawsons stomp Quen around. The fans rally and duel, but Zane brings Quen up. Quen JAWBREAKERS free! Zane staggers, Quen scoops, but that’s still too much beef! Zane CLUBS Quen, Quen goes to a corner, and Zane runs up, only to get buckles! Quen throws off his vest to get serious, and he roars! Quen SCOOP SLAMS Zane!! It takes a lot out of Quen, too, and both men are down! The fans fire up as both men crawl for their corners. Zane anchors Quen, tags Dave, but Quen rolls free!
Hot tag to Zay and he rallies on Dave! “SHOTS! SHOTS! SHOTS!” Dave shoves, pops Zay up, but Zay RANAS! Zay roars, runs, but Dave tosses Zay up and out! Luckily Quen is there, and Private Party busts out the SILLY STRING~! Cover, Zane breaks it! Zane whips Zay to a corner to SPLASH! Zay sputters, Zane calls to Dave, and Dave goes up! The Dawsons say they win this, they get a contract! Zane hauls Zay up, reels him in, but Quen makes the save! They shove Zane into Dave! Then Zay kicks! Zane blocks, sends it at Quen, but Quen catches the foot to help Zay get up, for a STUNNER! Zay holds Zane, Quen KICKS Zane, then ASSISTED SLICED BREAD!
The fans fire up as Quen says it’s time! GIN & JUICE, Dave falls onto Zane!! Cover, Private Party wins!
Winners: Private Party, by pinfall
A literally big win over the big Dawson Brothers, and it’s time for those “SHOTS! SHOTS! SHOTS!” Will Zay & Quen party their way into the title scene soon enough?
Deonna Purrazzo speaks.
“They say, ‘Nothing good ever comes of violence.’ Well, I disagree. As The Virtuosa, I can turn anything into an instrument. And Thunder Rosa, I would’ve thought you’d have learned that by now. Have I not beaten enough humility into you for you to recognize that when you step into the ring with THE Virtuosa, you are simply outclassed? I would’ve thought you’d know not to hand me yet another instrument. And with that bull rope, I will summon a symphony of violence so severe, it’s echoes will long outlast you. And your legacy… Your legacy will serve as a cautionary tale to all who follow.
“That if you don’t put me on the pedestal that I deserve, I will have no choice to lay you out on a slab.” Deonna wants to be the maestro of malice, but will La Mera Mera be the composer of Deonna’s downfall?
Dustin Rhodes speaks.
“Guys, it has been a hell of a few week for me. The Natural, Dustin Rhodes, has won his first title in AEW, along with The Von Erichs, Marshall & Ross! We have won the ROH World Six Man Tag Team Championships! So excited, so pumped for it. But last night, Sammy Guevara came up to me and he said, ‘Dustin, I want to earn your trust.'” Dustin said okay, and they took on The Dark Order. What’d they do? They wiped the floor with them! So thank you, Sammy! And that got Dustin thinking. He’s doing great, he’s 55 years old, on top of the world, and though he’s a champion, he wants more. Specifically, Matt Taven & Mike Bennett.
Dustin wants the ROH World Tag Team Championships! He’s coming for it all! The Kingdom steps in and says they could hear him. They were only over there, watching the monitors. They heard everything he had to say. So Taven asks, why on Earth, at this point in Dustin’s career, he deserves whatever he wants? He doesn’t even deserve having the Six Man titles! Kevin Von Erich, Shibata, everyone else involved, and now Dustin wants to bring in this goofy Melvin, Sammy Guevara, into this. Sammy was gone for seven MONTHS after having just ONE kid! Bennett wrestled four DAYS after his first child!
And Bennett isn’t sure Dustin heard, but while Dustin’s a big deal in Texas, look at how these belts say ROH World Tag Team Champions. That is the “kingdom” that The Kingdom rules. Dustin tells them to take a step back out of his face. Okay, okay, they get it. Dustin wants it all, but The Kingdom is here to shatter dreams. Taven pats Dustin on the shoulder but Dustin pushes that hand away. Bennett tells them both to relax. And then Bennett LOW BLOWS Dustin!! Dustin falls over and Taven hopes Dustin gets the joke now! The Natural definitely “got it,” but will he and Sammy make sure The Kingdom gets what they deserve?
Saraya w/ Harley Cameron VS Nyla Rose!
The Outcasts are back together tonight, no more protesting by staying away from shows. But will Saraya scrape together some sort of All In plan? Or will she even make it to Wembley after facing the Native Beast?
Harley gets on the apron to shout at Nyla. Clearly Harley is still upset about her loss last week. Nyla storms over, Harley scurries away, and Saraya BLASTS Nyla right to the floor! The ref reprimands but Saraya goes out to stomp and CLUB away on Nyla! Saraya THROWS Nyla into steel steps, then argues with the ref that Nyla was trying to hurt her friend! Speaking of her friend, Harley stomps Nyla while the ref isn’t looking! Saraya steps into the ring, tells the ref to get Nyla’s stinky cloak out of the ring. The ref does as told, and Nyla drags herself into the ring. Saraya stomps Nyla as the bell rings!
Saraya CLUBS away on Nyla, then takes a bow as she soaks up the heat. Nyla stands, and she shoves Saraya down! Saraya gest up, runs in and slips around to have a SLEEPER! Nyla THROWS Saraya off, runs up and SPLASHES in the corner! Nyla whips Saraya hard into the corner, then she scoops Saraya to SLAM! The fans rally while Nyla drags Saraya back up. Another scoop, another SLAM! Nyla drags Saraya up again, and she scoops, only for Saraya to slip free! Saraya CLUBS Nyla, waistlocks, but Nyla fires elbows. Saraya slips around to RAM Nyla into the corner! Saraya fires off, Harley coaches her, but Nyla fires hands in return!
Saraya slips free, bails out, and regroups with Harley. Nyla shrugs and builds speed! She fakes The Outcasts out, then slides! But into an apron skirt trap! Saraya fires off forearms, the fans are torn, but Saraya says she’s just too smart. Saraya CLUBS Nyla, Harley says that’s why Saraya is the best. Saraya struts her way into the ring while Rampage goes picture in picture.
Nyla flops out of the apron skirt, Saraya argues with the ref, and Harley KICKS Nyla while she’s down! And kicks her again! Harley scurries away, Nyla drags herself into the ring, and Saraya attacks! Saraya stomps Nyla to the corner, stomps her in the corner, but lets off as the ref counts. Harley taunts the fans, Saraya talks to the camera, then she puts Nyla through ropes. Saraya fires KNEE after KNEE, then lets off as the ref counts. Nyla flounders, Saraya storms in after her, and fires forearms! Nyla fires body shots in return so Saraya HAMMERS away! Saraya drags Nyla up to TOSS her out, and then Saraya ties her shoe.
The ref argues with Saraya, and Harley gets another cheap shot on Nyla! Saraya goes out after Nyla, RAMS her into railing, and Harley cheers her on. Saraya digs her boots into Nyla at the railing, then steps away to refresh the ring count. Saraya drags Nyla up but Nyla RAMS her into the apron! Nyla and Saraya trade forearms, but then Saraya CLAWS Nyla’s face! Nyla scrambles away, Saraya storms over to RAM her into steel steps! Saraya rolls into the ring to let the count handle Nyla now. Harley taunts Nyla, Nyla drags herself up and in at 8! Saraya stomps and CLUBS Nyla at the ropes! Saraya then puts Nyla in a corner to dig her boot in.
The ref counts, Saraya steps off at 4, and she storms around in a huff. Saraya then argues with the ref, and that lets Harley CHOKE Nyla! Saraya storms back over to stand on Nyla! The ref counts again, Rampage returns to single picture, and Saraya lets off to soak up heat. Saraya CLUBS Nyla, whips, but Nyla blocks! Nyla asks, “Have you lost your mind?!” Nyla whips, Saraya sunset flips, but Nyla stays up to HIP DROP! Cover, TWO! Saraya stays in this but Nyla lines up a shot. Nyla LARIATS and Saraya staggers. Nyla scoops to SIDEWALK SLAM, then SENTON! The fans fire up, Saraya flounders, and Nyla runs, SPLASH DOWN onto knees!
Saraya saves herself, Nyla flounders up, into a KNEE! Saraya drags Nyla up, hooks her up, and KNIGHT CAP! Cover, TWO!! Nyla survives but Harley shouts, “Do the Ram-Paige!” Saraya says that’s not what it’s called anymore! As fitting as that would be… But anyway, Saraya drags Nyla up, but Nyla fights the lift! Saraya still tries, but Nyla suplexes to GOURD BUSTER! And SUPERKICK! Cover, TWO! Saraya stays in this but Nyla is furious! Nyla paces, tells Harley to shut up, and she goes back to Saraya. Saraya kicks from below! Saraya fires a forearm, but Nyla just frowns! Nyla ROCKS Saraya, so Saraya fires back!
Nyla ROCKS Saraya again! Saraya scowls, fires another shot, but Nyla growls. Saraya dodges, runs back in, and DOUBLE LARIATS take both women down! The fans rally, a standing count starts, and the two stir. Saraya and Nyla slowly sit up, and Nyla stands at 7! Nyla clamps a hand onto Saraya’s neck, CHOKE SLAM! But Harley distracts from the cover! Nyla would’ve won already, and Nyla’s pissed! Harley backs up but Nyla pursues! They go around the outside but Saraya storms up! Nyla SLAPS Saraya down! Harley swings, Nyla blocks and SLAPS her, too! But Saraya’s up to YAKUZA KICK!
The fans rally, Nyla goes into the ring, and Saraya pursues. Nyla throat chops Saraya! Nyla then suplexes, but Harley trips her! And holds her down while Saraya covers! SARAYA WINS!
Winner: Saraya, by pinfall
Nyla can’t believe it but she gets cheated by The Outcasts! But will this win really lead Saraya to another Wembley homecoming? Or will she have to fight even harder if she wants to go All In?
My Thoughts:
A very good Rampage, but the match order was perhaps the most confusing thing. Saraya VS Nyla was a good match, even with Harley helping Saraya cheat, and that was a good way for Saraya to win without Nyla looking weak. I suppose there’s some way of making this story lead to All In, if only as part of the Zero Hour, such as Nyla getting a tag partner again. Maybe this could be Marina Shafir’s way back onto AEW TV. Or even the start of an AEW Women’s Tag Division and therefore tag titles. Well, probably not that much, Tony Khan barely does enough with the Women’s Division when it’s just two singles titles, and then all of ROH.
Good promo from Willow and Ishii to tease a Mixed Tag match with Kris & Stokely. That will surely be Zero Hour material, but it’ll be a good way to give Willow momentum going into her CMLL Women’s World Championship match with Kris in the future. Good promo from Lethal to call out Hangman for a match, which Hangman will of course win, and similarly, a very good promo from Callis and Rush to set up Rush VS Vance. Bit of a shame for Preston Vance to return just to get destroyed, though. If nothing else, why not just absorb LFI into the Don Callis Family so that Vance and Dralistico get back into a story? Injuries have beat up the DCF, and Kyle Fletcher is likely to leave as he sides with Ospreay, so DCF is gonna need people.
Very fun tag match from Private Party VS Dawson Brothers, and a touch more than just a squash match. I like that Zane Dawson is one of the few to say it out loud: if the “local enhancement talent” win, they get guaranteed contracts with the company. Now, that didn’t happen tonight, but maybe The Dawson Brothers get to do more in ROH. Very good promo from Dustin with The Kingdom, and it seems my hunch was right. Dustin Rhodes & Sammy Guevara are gonna go for the ROH Tag Team Championships. If they fail, there’s a very good chance Sammy just kinda pulls an MJF, aka relapsing into his Heel persona and just doing the same old shtick.
The two singles matches that started us off where much better choices for the main event really. I get Wheeler VS Rocky not starting us off if they wanted Bryan on commentary, they wanted that to feel a bit more special. But with Swerve also watching backstage, why not make the match a main event? Leave us with that cliffhanger of, “Yuta’s ready for Swerve, is Swerve ready for Yuta?” Or if the awesome Darby VS Butcher match was the main event, we would’ve had Darby close us out with his bloody face to give us another good cliffhanger going towards Dynamite and possibly a confrontation with Jack Perry.
My Score: 8.5/10
