Elsewhere, WWE continued teasing the return of Big Cass, TNA delivered its largest AMC audience to date, and the former owner of New Japan explained how WWE’s Netflix agreement helped convince him that NJPW required significantly stronger financial backing.

Seth Rollins Rejects Solo Sikoa’s SummerSlam Offer

Solo Sikoa offered to help Seth Rollins neutralize The Bloodline when Rollins challenges World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns at SummerSlam. Rollins declined, prompting Jacob Fatu to enter the confrontation before Rollins caught him with a superkick.

Fatu later defeated LA Knight in the main event after the involvement of Jimmy Uso, Jey Uso, Sikoa and Royce Keys created chaos around ringside. Fatu connected with his moonsault for the victory before The Bloodline overwhelmed Knight, Sikoa and Keys to close the show.

Joe Hendry defeated AAA Mega Champion Dominik Mysterio in a non-title match after Danhausen and IYO SKY countered interference from Liv Morgan. Penta and Chad Gable also coexisted long enough to defeat Rusev and Ethan Page despite preparing to face one another for the Intercontinental Championship at SummerSlam.

WWE Continues Teasing Big Cass Return

Another vignette promoting the return of Big Cass aired during Raw. The video focused on the personal struggles that followed his 2018 WWE release and again displayed the date August 3.

Enzo Amore was not shown or referenced, continuing to indicate that WWE is preparing Cass for a solo return. Cass most recently competed as Big Bill in AEW before leaving the company and beginning his return to WWE.

The August 3 date falls on the first Raw following SummerSlam. That creates an obvious stage for Cass to return in front of an audience already expecting major developments after WWE’s largest event of the summer.

WWE-Netflix Deal Influenced Decision to Sell NJPW

Bushiroad founder Takaaki Kidani said the emergence of AEW first caused him to question whether his company possessed the resources necessary to expand New Japan globally.

Kidani identified WWE’s January 2024 Netflix agreement as the decisive moment. The size of the deal convinced him that Bushiroad could not independently compete in a wrestling industry increasingly controlled by companies with enormous media and streaming resources.

Bushiroad subsequently agreed to sell its shares of NJPW to TV Asahi and CyberAgent. The sale gives New Japan two ownership partners with deeper media infrastructure while attempting to protect the company’s position in Japan and strengthen its international reach.

TNA Impact Records Largest AMC Audience

The July 16 episode of TNA Impact averaged 286,000 viewers on AMC, increasing substantially from the 188,000 viewers reported for the June 25 episode. It was TNA’s largest television audience since the promotion began airing on AMC in January.

The episode also earned a 0.03 rating among viewers between the ages of 18 and 49, improving from a 0.02 rating on June 25. The most-watched TNA YouTube clip from the episode was the addition of Mila Moore to Order 4, which reached 117,000 views.

The increase arrived during a show featuring Moore’s introduction, Cedric Alexander’s X-Division Championship defense and KC Navarro confronting TNA World Champion Nic Nemeth. TNA now has to determine whether the audience represented one successful episode or the beginning of sustained growth.

NXT Championship Street Fight Headlines Tuesday’s Show

Tony D’Angelo will defend the NXT Championship against Naraku in a Street Fight on Tuesday’s episode of NXT. Naraku earned another opportunity after defeating Tate Wilder and becoming involved in a post-match fight with D’Angelo. The champion later demanded the rematch, and Robert Stone approved the Street Fight stipulation.

Jaida Parker will also receive another match against Nattie, while Reina Volcan makes her NXT in-ring debut against Skylar Raye. Shawn Spears will face former Culling ally Niko Vance, and DarkState will meet Noam Dar, Saquon Shugars and Romeo Moreno.

Rollins rejecting Sikoa keeps his SummerSlam match with Reigns centered on their personal history rather than turning it into another temporary alliance story. The decision may leave Rollins badly outnumbered, but accepting help from Sikoa would have undermined everything he has said about defeating Reigns himself.

The Cass vignettes have taken a different approach from a traditional surprise return. WWE is openly acknowledging the circumstances surrounding his departure and allowing the audience to anticipate his arrival, placing the pressure on Cass to demonstrate how much he has changed since 2018.

TNA’s audience increase is encouraging because the episode was driven by the company’s weekly roster and stories rather than a one-night appearance from a major outside attraction. One number does not establish a trend, but 286,000 viewers gives TNA a meaningful benchmark to pursue during the build toward Nemeth against Jeff Hardy.
