Hook VS Nick Comoroto!
So what if The Opps couldn’t take the AEW World Trios Championships? The Cold-Hearted Handsome Devil is still leading a group of killers in Samoa Joe’s absence, and he looks to establish himself in singles competition. Will he take down one massive prey? Or will the Wrecking Ball Freak Beast #SendHook back with a loss?
The Code of Honor is not upheld as Hook slaps the hand aside and gets in Comoroto’s face. The bell rings, the two circle, and they tie up. Comoroto puts Hook in a corner, the ref counts, but Comoroto pats Hook on the shoulders as he backs off. Hook shoots around, waistlocks, but Comoroto switches. Hook switches, then trips Comoroto. The fans are torn as Hook eggs Comoroto on, but Comoroto trips Hook up! Hook scrambles away to the ropes but Comoroto pursues. Hook uses the ropes as defense, the ref has Comoroto back up, and Hook fires a cheap shot! Hook then fires body shots and a CHOP! Hook clinches, but he can’t lift that much meat!
Comoroto HEADBUTTS Hook, then clinches him for the EXPLODER! The fans fire up as Comoroto runs up, but Hook DUMPS Comoroto out! Comoroto holds onto the ropes, and skins the cat! Maybe a lion at that size. Hook kicks, Comoroto blocks, and he UPPERCUTS! Comoroto lifts Hook with the military press, but Hook slips free! Hook ducks ‘n’ dodges, then jukes to trip Comoroto up! Hook facelocks, but Comoroto fights up to lift and THROW Hook away! Hook dodges Comoroto, clinches, and manages the EXPLODER! The fans fire up for that feat of strength, then Hook hurries to cover, TWO! Hook keeps on Comoroto with knees!
The fans cheer as Hook puts Comoroto in the corner and fires body shots. Hook CHOPS Comoroto, stalks him along the ropes, then clinches again. Comoroto fights free and ROCKS Hook! Hook dodges the next shot, then dodges again, to AX HANDLE! And SENTON! Hook pushes Comoroto to a cover, TWO! Comoroto still has a lot left in the tank but Hook stalks him. Hook then clamps on RED- NO! Comoroto snapmares free, LARIATS, and ELBOWS! Then he wrenches Hook and brings him around, BUTTERFLY PLEX! Hook flounders away, Comoroto runs in at the corner, and SPLASHES! Then a scoop for the POWERSLAM! Cover, TWO!!
The fans fire up as Hook survives, but Comoroto pounds the mat. The fans rally as Comoroto aims, runs up, and SENTONS but FLOPS as Hook moves! REDRUM!! Comoroto is caught, and he TAPS! Hook wins!
Winner: Hook, by submission
The Cold-Hearted Handsome Devil stayed level-headed and he evened the playing field with that signature submission. Will this win #SendHook after a championship in ROH soon enough?
Six Man Tag: BEEF & The Premier Athletes VS Keagan Garland, LJ Cleary & Aaron Dallas!
Wait, didn’t this team try being a trio before? And didn’t Tony Nese & Ariya Daivari abandon Beef because they were having too hard a time? What’s Beef thinking he can go back to them? “Smart” Mark Sterling of course hijacks the introductions to say they have “the Greatest Iranian Wrestler in the business,” “the man with the most consistent physique in wrestling,” the D1 Athlete, Stori Denali, and… Beef. Sterling says he has nominated his own team for a Nobel Peace Prize for the sheer level of charity they are doing for Beef! To take someone so… unathletic! As unathletic as the people of Jacksonville!
And to make him good enough to stand here, in their presence, that is truly a miracle! But listen up! When he says “Athletes,” you say “Rule,” NOTHING ELSE! Hands in. Ohh… “ATHLETES!” “SUCK!!” And then the fans cheer for Beef! The Premier Athletes don’t like that, an the trios sort out. Beef starts against Keagan and the Code of Honor is upheld. The bell rings and the two tie up. They go around, Keagan wrenches, but Beef wrenches and WRINGS him out! And WRINGS him again! Beef wrenches to a wristlock but Keagan rolls, spins, and handsprings to wrench and wristlock. Beef wrenches through to WRING the arm again!
Keagan goes to the ropes, flips through and wrenches to wristlock. But Beef scoops and SLAMS! The fans cheer Beef and Sterling takes credit for that. Beef wrenches and whips, then he cartwheels to dodge Keagan and DROPKICK! Beef stands Keagan up, scoops, but Keagan slips free. Keagan shoves Beef into the ropes for Dallas to KNEE in the back! Keagan CLUBS and stomps Beef, then fires hands! The ref counts, Keagan backs up and he tags Dallas. Dallas ROCKS Beef, HEADBUTTS, then runs up to UPPERCUT! Tag to LJ and he stomps and punches away! The ref counts, LJ brings Beef around to CLUB him down!
LJ smooths his hair, then whips, but Beef reverses. Beef runs up, but into a BOOT! Daivari CLOBBERS LJ from the apron! The ref reprimands but Beef tags Daivari. Beef & Daivari mug LJ, then stop to tag Nese. Nese & Daivari mug LJ, then shout, “ATHLETES!” The fans still say, “SUCK!” Nese turns around into a SOBAT! LJ then fires off haymakers on Daivari, but Nese rolls him up, and SOBATS in return! Nese feeds LJ to Daivari for Daivari to lift, and they hit the PREMIER DDT! Beef wants in, the fans cheer him on, and Nese says fine. He tags Beef, Beef goes up, for the BEEF SPLASH! Cover, Beef & Athletes win!
Winners: Beef & The Premier Athletes, by pinfall
Sterling still only raises the hands of Nese & Daivari, but Beef gets the cheers. Will Beef be just the thing this team needs to actually get somewhere?
Backstage interview with The Premier Athletes & Beef.
Lexy Nair is with Sterling, Nese, Daivari, Stori & Beef, and she congratulates Beef on securing that win with his top rope splash. What a moment for Beef! Daivari says hold on, Lexy. He’s been winning with a splash all over the world for 20 YEARS. Not that big a deal. It’s honestly about time Beef was pulling his weight around here. Nese says yeah, they really needed this one, because they were against three of the best up-and-comers in ROH today, and they won! Sterling says very easily. It was practically 3v2. But they are working as such a well-oiled machine, it’s time. Beef, go ahead and tell everyone what they were discussing earlier.
Beef calls out Dalton Castle & The Outrunners for a shot at the ROH World Six Man Tag Team Championships! Sterling smiles and says that was the worst promo he’s ever heard. But Daivari, show ’em how it’s done. Daivari calls out Castle & The Outrunners for a shot at those ROH World Six Man Tag Team Championships! Sterling and Nese both really like how that sounded. That’s how you do it! That’s how you act like a Premier Athlete, but backstage and in the ring. And with that, they’re gonna win those Six Man titles. Because athletes… Beef jumps in with “RULE!” and the others scold him, that’s Nese’s line.
Beef just can’t catch a break. But can he still be golden alongside Nese & Daivari? Or will The Peacock & Youngest Men Alive show them they ain’t seen nothing yet?
Lio Rush speaks.
The Problem Child creeps up on his ROH World Television Championship, “Cuts…! Cuts! Cuts!” Is it hot to the touch? Lio touches it, even as it burns, and manages to lift it up. “No no no no no no no! Cuts! Cuts, cuts, cuts… Cuts!” The voices whisper in his head, and he says, “It’s fine…” What darkness will shine because of the spotlight on the Black Heart?
After Action Andretti VS Alex Reynolds…
A 450 Splash wins it for the Sight to See, but he isn’t satisfied! He BOOTS Reynolds back down, then goes out to fetch a chair! The fans boo and the ref reprimands but Action doesn’t care! Action wants to take his shot! But then JOHN SILVER rushes out here! The Meat Man is back and he runs Action off! The fans cheer, but will Johnny Hungy humble Action and that bad attitude? Action claims he doesn’t need this, but then he turns around and there’s a rainbow umbrella! IT’S LIO! The fans cheer as Lio threatens Action with the umbrella! And then Silver & Reynolds are there, too! Action runs for it, and The Dark Order looks at Lio. It’s fine, it’s fine!
Mance Warner speaks.
“Cameraman, come on in here, let ol’ Mancer preach to ya. Red light on, red light on! ROH, ol’ Mancer’s here to do what I always do. I’ma punch ya in the face! Violence! Beat people down! They don’t call me ‘The Southern Psycho’ for no reason. I’m scarred up, I’m beat up, but I always get back up, I stand up, and I keep on fighting. And I always hit the pay window. Gettin’ paid, baby! ROH has been known to put ol’ Mancer in Pure Rules fights. I don’t know any of the rules! None of ’em! I don’t care if it’s hardcore, fight all over the building, if it’s Lucha Libre, if it’s Pure Rules, ol’ Mancer is here in ROH for one thing: To punch people in the face and hit the pay window. Yeah, yeah, yeah!”
Time to Chop It Up with The Infantry.
Caprice Coleman says this is a very special Fourth of July edition as he has Carlie Bravo, Shawn Dean & Trish Adora. Three people who have served our country well! Coleman thanks them for stopping by, and Dean brings up how last time, he and Bravo hosted the Fourth of July episode. Bravo says it’s not just special because it’s for Fourth of July or because The Infantry served. It’s because they’re #THEM! It’s special because they star in ROH, they star in AEW, and they are the hottest thing going around. Make sure you include all that next time. Coleman says what Bravo said. But here’s a question he has for them all.
Coleman knows some people don’t know them like he knows them, so starting with Dean, what branch of the military did he serve in, and what was his position? Dean says he was in the US Navy, served on the USS Eisenhower, basically serving as a deck seaman, taking care of the ship itself, but also getting everyone ready when it was time to go overseas. Trish Adora introduces herself, she was US Army for eight years, originally joining as a communications technician, aka fixing things. Then she turned the table and became a Military Police officer. Bravo says he’s Bad News & Tattoos, United States Marine Corps. eight years running!
Bravo was truly “infantry,” for both Operation: Iraqi Freedom and Operation: Enduring Freedom. He did what he was supposed to do and is now the most combat decorated pro-wrestler of all time. He’s not playing with it! They all high-five, and Coleman says that’s over 20 years total of defending our country, the REAL superheroes here. Sometimes, Coleman doesn’t feel the people respect them the way they deserve. It’s just because the people don’t know, so now it’s time to let them know. They’re not just wrestlers, they defended the country and defended it well. Then they simply said they wanted to be pro-wrestlers and they are here.
How does that transition from military to wrestling work? Bravo says they’re dangerous! Straight like that, talk that talk! You can’t make it outta where they came from without having that toughness, that rigidness! Bravo served too tours, Adora was overseas, Cap was serving, you can’t be soft like that. It’s like how they run it in ROH! They them! Freedom ain’t free, you’re welcome! Coleman says this is dope! Cuz when it comes to strategy in the matches, planning for teams, training, the mindset, how do they fuse it all? Bravo says hold on, hold on. Bravo goes off screen and says it’s coming. He brings out the American flag, his baby!
The Infantry unfurl Ol’ Glory, and Dean says when we talk strategy in wrestling, he’s Captain for a reason. They politicking, putting it together, they know what’s gonna happen. They know their enemies before they do anything! Master technician in Trish Adora, the “bomb specialist” in Bravo. There’s nothing anybody can do that they didn’t plan for. They got recon, tactical information, and background on every single member of the ROH & AEW rosters. They’re five steps ahead of everyone! They’re doing war room meetings! No one is ready for them! They’re dangerous! They’re America! Red, white, blue, y’know what he’s saying?
Coleman thanks The Infantry for chopping it up with him. They got any last words? Dean asks, “Is this camera on me?” Ch’yeah! We salute America, we salute The Infantry, but will ROH pledge allegiance to #THEM?
Action Andretti speaks.
“I do not take coming up short too well. I should be standing here as your ROH Television Champion! And all my pent up anger and frustration got to be taken out on Alex Reynolds tonight. And Reynolds, you’re lucky you had your boy, Johnny, out there. Because if it wasn’t for him, you would be sleeping in a hospital bed tonight. And that little creep, Lio, just had to get in my way once again! But Lio, Black Heart, whatever you wanna call yourself, the next time you get in my way, I will beat you with your own umbrella! And I will make sure that your reign as ROH Television Champion comes to an end.”
ROH World Tag Team Championships: Sammy Guevara & The Beast Mortos VS Mistico & Mascara Dorada!
We flashback to the past once more as Everybody’s Favorite Pillar and Menacing Minotaur take on El Sky Team! If you peeked through the Forbidden Door, then you know how this goes! Let us all witness who walks out of Arena Mexico with the gold!
The introductions are made, the belts are… Well, no, Sammy is being stubborn about giving over his belt. He tries to get cheers from the fans, but instead gets boos. Mistico is easily able to get cheers, which just annoys Sammy. Sammy keeps trying, vlogging every second of it, but Mistico just gets more cheers. Finally, the belts are handed over, referee Aubrey Edwards raises them, and per Mistico’s special entrance, we see who are the true tag team phenoms!
The teams sort out and Mascara starts against Sammy. Sammy runs up but Mascara arm-drags, and arm-drags, and then flips to RANA! Sammy tumbles out and Mascara builds speed, but Mortos uses lucha rules to POUNCE! But then Mistico does the same, FLYING RANA! Mortos tumbles out to join Sammy, and El Sky Team DOUBLE DIVE! Down go LFI and the fans are fired up! Then they go again, but Mortos is back to DOUBLE SPEAR! The fans boo but now Sammy builds speed, and he FLIES to take down El Sky Team! The fans boo more but LFI soaks up the heat. Mortos whips Mascara into railing, Sammy does the same to Mistico!
The fans continue to boo but LFI continue to soak up the heat. Sammy brags that he’s the best at everything, and Mortos puts Mascara in. The fans tell LFI off, but Mortos drags Mascara up. Sammy joins in and they corner Mascara. Sammy hushes the fans to then claw the eyes! The fans boo, the ref counts, but Sammy backs off at 4. Mortos SLAPS Mascara down! Mortos roars, the fans boo, but LFI drags Mascara up. They double whip corner to corner, Sammy JUMP KNEES, then he feeds Mascara to the POP-UP SAMOAN DROP! Cover, TWO! Mascara survives but LFI continues to soak up heat.
Sammy goes out, fetches Mistico into the ring, and Mortos puts him in a corner. LFI mugs Mistico while the fans rally, but then Mortos puts Mistico up top. Sammy climbs up, just to claw at the mask! The fans boo and the ref reprimands, but Sammy CLAWS Mistico into the Tree of Woe! Sammy stomps away, even as the fans tell him off. Sammy & Mortos bring Mistico up, around, and have him on the ropes! Sammy goes up the corner for the DRAPING DOUBLE STOMP! Mascara runs up but Sammy CLOBBERS him! Sammy & Mortos mug Mascara, then CHOP! LFI double whip Mascara, POP-UP RANA COUNTER!
The fans fire up as Mascara dodges Mortos, SUPERKICKS, then runs, but then jumps over Mortos to land on the ramp! GAMANGIRI, and here comes Mistico! Mascara gives him the boost for the FLYING RANA! And he lands on his feet! Sammy is back but Mistico dodges to SUPERKICK! The fans are thunderous as Mistico runs up, but Mortos gets Sammy to safety! The fans boo, but then El Sky Team builds speed again! LFI runs away, the fans wind it up, and they tell LFI off. And they do it again! Sammy asks what they’re saying, he doesn’t know that much Spanish! Sammy wants a timeout but that’s not a thing in this kind of match.
The ring count starts, even as Sammy argues with the ref. Sammy storms into the ring, talks strategy with Mortos, then takes his time stepping back in. Sammy and Mascara speed things up, Sammy hurdles but Mascara handsprings! Sammy gets clear, but Mascara blocks, KICKS, and goes up, up, and balances himself for the PINBALL ARM-DRAG! Sammy tumbles around, then bails out! Sammy hurries back in but Mascara dodges! Mascara runs up, but is sent into Sammy! Then Mascara runs to RANA Mascara and ARM-DRAG Sammy! Things keep moving, POP-UP and backflip! Tilt-o-whirl DEJA VU RANA!
The fans are thunderous as Mascara handsprings, and fakes out LFI! The fans cheer, Sammy is frustrated, and Sammy still wants a timeout. The ring count starts again, and the fans taunt Sammy for being chicken. Sammy storms back in, but he meets Mistico this time! They circle, the fans rally up, Mistico runs, but Mortos gets a cheap shot in! LFI mugs Mistico, the fans boo, but Mortos intimidates Aubrey. LFI drags Mistico up, double whips, but Mistico ducks ‘n’ dodge and handsprings! Then he sends Mortos into Sammy! And he hits Sammy with a 619! Then a springboard FLYING RANA on Mortos! And a tilt-o-whirl RANA on Sammy!
Mistico keeps moving, and DEJA VU RANA! The fans fire up again as Mistico sees LFI regrouping. Mascara joins in, and one more time, El Sky Team builds speed! But Sammy slides in first! JUMP KNEE on Mistico! SUPERKICK on Mascara! Torture rack on Mistico for GO TO HOSPITAL! Cover, Mascara breaks it! The fans cheer as Mascara whips Sammy, but Sammy reverses. Mortos runs up, Mascara dodges, and POISON-RANA! Sammy springboards in for a FLYING CUTTER! But Mistico runs up to DESTROYER!! Mortos SPEARS Mistico! All four men are down again and the fans are thunderous! Aubrey checks everyone, they’re okay to continue, so now we get a standing count.
The fans rally as we hit cinco, then siete! Ocho! Mortos is up at nueve, and then BOTH Mistico and Mascara spring to life! Mortos runs up, Mascara dodges, out goes Mortos! Sammy runs up but he’s sent into the POST! The fans fire up as Mascara goes up onto the post itself! ARIHARA MOONSAULT as Mistico then ESCALARAS!! El Sky Team has the fans truly electric! Then he goes out to SHOOTING STAR ATTACK! Mistico has Mortos for LA MYSTICAAA~! FUJIWARA ARMBAR, MORTOS TAPS! El Sky Team wins!!
Winners: Mistico & Mascara Dorada, by submission (NEW ROH World Tag Team Champions)
It was hot like the summer heat, and it is El Sky Team that comes out on top! Mistico and Mascara Dorada are BOTH TRIPLE CHAMPIONS! Will nothing stop them from taking over the world of wrestling?
My Thoughts:
A very good episode for ROH, and I appreciate that it was just a touch over 90 minutes. A shame the main event of this gets spoiled by the fact they had to wait a whole week to show the match. We knew since Collision what happened because commentary had to acknowledge what happened in Arena Mexico. But still a great tag match and great win for El Sky Team. Good match from Hook VS Comoroto, good win for Hook. I feel like Comoroto should be in The Opps just so he can be their big monster guy.
Very good Six Man Tag win for Premier Athletes and Beef, and good story of how Beef’s not being appreciated in any way. They kinda gave us Premier Athletes abandoning Beef too early, but typical AEW-ROH, left hand not knowing what right hand is doing. Maybe Beef should abandon The Premier Athletes in their time of need as payback. And though I skipped it, Action VS Reynolds was a good match. The real stuff was in John Silver showing up and then Dark Order and Lio running Action off. Lio VS Action for the TV title will be really good, and I would think Lio wins to move onto a new feud.
Very good Chop It Up from The Infantry, perfect for the Fourth of July. STP really does deserve a bit more now that they’re on AEW (mostly Collision), and maybe they can turn things around before All In and get some new gold.
My Score: 8.7/10
