Backstage interview with Cruz Montana.

Sarah Schreiber is with the Boricua Badass and says that tonight, Cruz has the chance to leave Texas the NEW NXT Champion. How does he feel heading into the Fatal 4 Way? He says he feels like he belongs. He’ll say this until there’s no more air in his lungs: He was a poor Puerto Rican kid from the projects who had a dream and the drive to chase it. And here he is! He’s been counted out, looked over and laughed at, but he took all that and said, “Watch me work.” That NXT title is just one three count away! He’s walking into the toughest battle of his career, against three guys trying to stop his mission.

Tony D has his experience. He won the title in a Fatal 4 Way. Waller is picking his spot, and Zilla is like an animal. But this is where Cruz thrives! Backed against a wall, head on a swivel. But the difference is the fact that he is ready and willing to go somewhere they haven’t. He is ready to go to Hell and back! At the end of the night, it’ll be worth it when he holds the title above his head. And when he straps the belt around his waist, that moment will be much more than a win for him, his daughter, and everything he represents. The Heatwave Double Header begins for Myles Borne as he and T defend against Brad Baylor & Ricky Smokes. Will Myles #NeverBreak, even under this pressure? Or will the boys make it that much easier for Jackson Drake later tonight?

The introductions are made, the tag titles are raised, and we see who sets the tone!

The teams sort out and Myles starts against Brad. They tie up, go around, and Myles puts Brad in a corner. Brad turns things around, takes a swing, but Myles dodges. Myles UPPERCUTS Brad, whips, btu Brad blocks to kick low. Brad wrenches to RAM the arm again and again. Brad whips, Myles reverses, and Myles scoops, only for Brad to slip free and roll him up! TWO, and Brad dodges, only for the DROPKICK to hit! Smokes tags in, waistlocks, but Tavion tags in before Myles bucks the O’Conner. Myles ELBOWS Smokes, then Tavion RUNS Smokes over! Fireman’s carry, but Smokes slips free to shove. Tavion tackles and rolls Smokes!

The fans cheer as Myles tags in, ASSISTED GUT BUSTER, to a GUT WRENCH PLEX! Smokes bails out, Swipe Right regroups, and the fans boo. They huddle up to talk things out, and Smokes distracts Myles. Brad CLOBBERS Myles, fires off hands in the corner, then whips corner to corner. Myles reverses hard and Brad falls! Myles snap suplexes Brad, covers, TWO! Myles waistlocks to deadlift Brad, but Brad trips him! Myles kicks Brad away but Smokes tags in! HOTSHOT, then they DUMP Myles out! Smokes hurries to get Myles up and RAM him into the apron! The fans boo, the ref reprimands Smokes, but Brad CLAWS Tavion’s eyes! Tag to Smokes, Tavion DECKS Brad, but Smokes dodges! Myka distracts the ref, Smokes CHOP BLOCKS Tavion! The fans boo but Smokes springboards to MULE KICK Tavion down! Smokes rains down fists, then calls for Brad. Smokes brings Tavion over, Brad tags in, and they mug Tavion. Sarah Schreiber is now with the NXT General Manager, and asks how he feels about Heatwave so far. Stone says there are two new champions, and now a unified champion. And what about that submissions match from Jaida and Nattie? Stone says what a match. Nattie lost, but she got what she wanted in the best from Jaida. And with two more title matches to go, the main event being a Fatal 4 Way, this gives him goosebumps. We’re about to see if Myles still has gas in the tank. Always a great performer, but Stone says the NXT Tag Division is heating up, and let’s just say he’s working on some things. Stay tuned!

The numbers game went hard mode, and that helped Drake win the title! Vanity Project is dripping with gold again, will nothing stop them now? As for Myles, Tavion helps him up and says give it up for Myles! He did more than anyone did- BORNE AGAIN ON TAVION!?!? Why, Myles, why?! They just said they were brothers for life, so why would Myles do that to his brother?! Even Vanity Project is disgusted by that, and that’s saying something! What does Myles do now that he stands alone?

Kam Hendrix speaks.

This is the moment of truth for “The Master of Fate.” He finally won this title against three opponents, and now he must defend it against three opponents. But while Tony wants to prove he’s the best, The Boricua Badass wants to prove the haters were wrong, The Aussie Icon wants to prove he’s still a star, and The Main One wants to prove that’s not just a nickname! Will Tony still run NXT? Will Cruz truly make an impact? Will everyone feel the Grayson Waller Effect? Or will we all say HELLO to a new NXT Champion?

The fans rally for Cruz and Zilla but Waller mocks them like he can’t hear them. Waller BLASTS Tony off the apron, soaks up more heat, then he drags Cruz up. Zilla is up but Waller sends Cruz into him! But then Cruz slingshots up and over Waller, waistlocks, only for Waller to reverse! Waller SHOVES Cruz, Cruz BLASTS Tony, then Cruz ELBOWS Waller! Cruz rolls back to reverse somersault and CUTTER! Waller sputters, but Zilla is back to CLOBBER him! Tony fireman’s carries Waller, DEATH VALLEY DRIVER! Zilla RIDGE HANDS Tony down! Zilla and Cruz step up as the fans fire up!

Tony then gets Waller at the corner! SUPER BELLY2BELLY!! The fans fire up as Tony makes Edinburgh into Suplex City, and Heatwave goes picture in picture.

Tony scrapes Waller off the apron, then goes out after him. Tony whips Waller hard into steel steps! Then he hauls Zilla up to suplex to the floor! Cruz storms over but Tony ROCKS him first! And ROCKS him again! Tony SMACKS Cruz off the steel steps! Tony then brings those steps around, and he stands Cruz up against them. Tony throws hands and stomps Cruz down. Tony then CANNONBALLS into Cruz and the steps! Tony goes looking for something under the ring, and he brings out a chair! And then a TABLE! But Waller DECKS Tony! Waller puts the table back under, then insults the fans. But Tony fires hands on Waller!

Tony CHOPS Waller, pushes him into the ring, and reels him in for a FOGEDABOUTIT! Cover, TWO!! Waller survives, but Tony brings Waller up to whip. DEAD- NO, Waller fights free! Tony BOOTS from the corner, but then Waller wrenches and ROCKS Tony! CURB STOMP!! Tony is down, but so is Waller! Cruz storms back to the apron, and he fires the fans up before he climbs. But Waller springs up to ROCK Cruz! Waller climbs up, Heatwave returns to single picture, and Cruz fires body shots. They brawl, and Zilla coordinates with Tony! They both hoist Waller up, and Cruz stands! DOUBLE BLOCKBUSTER DOOMSDAY!!

“This is Awesome!” as all four men are down! Tony hobbles, and he JUMP KNEES Zilla! Tony puts Zilla up, climbs up, and he throws hands! But Zilla HEADBUTTS Tony down! The fans fire up as Zilla adjusts, and SUPERFLY!! Cover, but Cruz breaks it while hitting a DESTROYER on Waller!! The fans are thunderous again as Cruz and Zilla are the only two left in the ring. Cruz stands but Zilla throws hands! Zilla whips, pops Cruz up, but Cruz slips free to POST Zilla! Cruz then waits for Zilla to flop down, and he CANNONBALLS! Cover, Tony breaks it! Tony whips Cruz, POP-UP POWERSLAM! Cover, TWO!

The fans fire up as Tony stands up again. Zilla SUPERKICKS Tony, then POP-UP SAMOAN DROPS! The fans fire up as Zilla primes the thumb! SUPER SAMOAN SPIKE!!! Cover, WALLER YANKS THE REF OUT!! The fans boo, and Zilla realizes what just happened! Waller says nothing personal, mate, just how the match works. Zilla chases after Waller, fires hands, and HEADBUTTS him down! Then he looks to the desk! The fans fire up as Zilla clears the desk off! Zilla stomps Cruz, then brings Waller up. But Waller CLAWS Zilla’s eyes! Then he POSTS Zilla! Tony SPEARS Zilla! Cruz sees the desk, and he sees Waller!

The fans cheer as Cruz wants to use the desk, and he hurries to drag Zilla up. Cruz puts Zilla on the desk, then points to the corner! Cruz goes up, up, but Tony ROCKS him first! Tony climbs up, he and Cruz throw hands, then they both HOTSHOT off the corner! Waller sits up, and he sees he’s the only one up! And he sees Zilla is in the drop zone! Waller thinks on it, and it might be crazy, but Waller wants to do it! BALLER ELBOW down through the desk!! Waller and Zilla are down in the wreckage, and Waller clutches a leg! The fans are losing their minds, but did Waller just take himself out of this match?

Waller hobbles, Tony crawls, but “This is Awesome!” Tony is in the ring, and so is Cruz! They go forehead to forehead, and they egg each other on. Then the fists fly! The fans fire up, Cruz SOBATS, and he roars as he runs! But Tony SUPERMAN PUNCHES! Tony runs, but into a SUPERKICK! Both men lean on each other, and Cruz fireman’s carries! But Tony pops free, shoves, and pops Cruz up! But Cruz slips free! They switch, Cruz bucks the O’Conner, rolls, but into a GERMAN SUPLEX! Only to be right back up!? Cruz SPINS- NO, Tony dodges to SPEAR!! Tony roars, he waits on Cruz, DEAD TO- CODE BREAKER!!

Then SPIN THE BLOCK!!! But Waller SOMERSAULT STUNNERS!!! Cover on Tony, WALLER WINS!!!

WHAT?! Was Waller just exaggerating his bad leg?! If he wasn’t, he still found the perfect opening to snipe the win! Is this the true power of the Grayson Waller Effect?

A great Heatwave, perhaps one of NXT’s better PLEs this year. It certainly had some surprises, such as Myles losing it all and then turning Heel. I was seeing things as Tavion snapping on Myles out of his desperation and despair, but now it’s perhaps Myles snapping on Tavion because Tavion was holding him down. Vanity Project has many possibilities for contenders now, but certainly more the tag titles first. Good promo from Naraku calling out Shiloh, and good promo from Kam Hendrix calling out Mason Rook. Those will be good matches, and should Mason beat Kam, Mason could make a case for going after Drake and the North American title.

Great Triple Threat from Zaria, Wren and Kali. Wren was so close there, but Kali did end up being a factor. Zaria winning out makes sense, though, she’s done great work the last year and deserves this honor. Jaida VS Nattie was great, though maybe a bit overbooked. Perros Del Mal appearing to call Karmen away was certainly an interesting twist. The BOAT Crew is dwindling with Layla Diggs getting hurt and now Karmen having to choose sides. And now with Thea Hail after Lyons on NXT, not just in Evolve, maybe it’ll be a fair fight. Great win for Jaida, and she definitely needs herself a title story.

Kendal VS Lani was an awesome match, and great Heel tactics from Lani with going after Kendal’s ear and magically finding a loose buckle pad. After Lani’s story being her complaining yet still earning opportunities, something had to give, and this is a great moment for her to finally have the title. Then we got an awesome Fatal 4 Way main event, and the fans really hoped Zilla or Cruz would get this. But like with Lani, there was some genius in Waller doing the awesome table spot, clutching his leg, and yet he comes in and wins out. This is great for Waller, he’ll make a great Heel champion “ducking” all the contenders. Now, whether Tony gets a rematch or he instantly goes to main roster in time for Money in the Bank is hard to say, but what more is there for Tony to do now that he hit the Grand Slam?
