Bronson Reed WWE Return

Bronson Reed nears his WWE return, TNA Impact creates new chaos, AEW expands internationally and Sami Zayn hangs over Friday’s SmackDown.

WWE may be getting one of its biggest heavyweights back just as the fall schedule begins heating up.

Bronson Reed is reportedly closing in on his return after more than six months away, while Thursday’s TNA Impact produced several developments heading toward Bound for Glory. AEW expanded its international television footprint, Jim Ross provided an encouraging update following brain surgery, and Friday’s SmackDown has Sami Zayn standing in the middle of the WWE Championship picture.

It’s the Chairshot Wrestling News Report for September 4, 2026!

Bronson Reed’s WWE Return Is Getting Very Close

Bronson Reed’s return to WWE is reportedly approaching, with WrestleVotes reporting through Fightful Select that creative plans for his comeback are progressing and WWE expects him to be presented as a top-level heel. Reed has been sidelined since suffering a distal biceps tear earlier this year and undergoing surgery.

The “top-level heel” portion is more interesting than simply learning Reed is healthy again.

Reed was already moving beyond the role of somebody WWE used when it needed a large opponent before the injury stopped his momentum. Returning him with an established creative direction suggests the company does not intend to make him spend another several months proving he belongs near the top.

The Vision also gives WWE an obvious way to reintroduce him. Bron Breakker faces Oba Femi at Sunday Night’s Main Event, meaning Reed is returning at a time when the faction already has something significant happening around it.

There is no confirmed return date, so Sunday remains speculation. What matters is that Reed apparently isn’t just medically approaching a comeback. WWE is preparing to do something with him when he gets there.

TNA’s International Title Contender Match Ends in Chaos

Jason Hotch and Trey Miguel wrestled for nearly 20 minutes on Thursday’s TNA Impact to determine the next challenger for Mustafa Ali’s International Championship, but neither man earned the opportunity. Special Agent 0 interfered and attacked both wrestlers, resulting in a no contest. Earlier in the show, Indi Hartwell and Harley Hudson defeated Knockouts World Champion Xia Brookside and Zoey Serrano when Hartwell submitted Brookside.

TNA managed to advance two championship programs without actually crowning the contender it advertised.

Agent 0 wrecking Hotch and Miguel creates another obstacle between both men and Ali, while Hartwell now has an extremely straightforward argument for why she belongs in the Knockouts Championship conversation: she made the champion tap.

That second result may ultimately matter more. Serrano’s arrival has immediately added another personality to an already crowded Knockouts picture, but Hartwell just acquired something more valuable than another confrontation backstage.

She has a result.

Matt Hardy and Nic Nemeth Will Settle It Without Rules

Thursday’s Impact also escalated the problems between Matt Hardy and Nic Nemeth. Hardy blamed the Nemeth brothers for Jeff Hardy’s backstage attack and fought with Nic and Ryan before Ryan was later found laid out. After another confrontation between Matt and Nic, Santino Marella booked them in a No Disqualification match for next week’s show.

TNA did not waste much time moving beyond the Hardys losing the Tag Team Championships.

The mystery surrounding Jeff’s attack allows the company to keep questioning whether Nic and Ryan are actually responsible while Matt behaves as though the case has already been solved. A No DQ match gives them the environment to escalate the feud without necessarily providing the answer.

The more interesting question is what happens if Matt discovers he has been fighting the wrong person.

AJ Francis Wants Avery Styles

AJ Francis returned to action on Impact with a quick victory over Brent Oakley before declaring himself the best big man — and the best “AJ” — in wrestling. Francis then challenged Avery Styles to his first TNA match. Styles accepted, but Frankie Kazarian interrupted and prevented the match from immediately moving forward.

This is a clever first program for Styles because it doesn’t require TNA to immediately throw him into the championship picture.

Francis can generate heat with almost anybody, and the name gimmick gives him an easy reason to antagonize Styles before the former WWE Champion has even wrestled for the company.

Kazarian’s involvement also keeps the story from being quite that simple. TNA has already established that everybody wants some piece of Styles. The challenge now is making his arrival feel connected to the existing roster rather than turning Impact into a weekly parade of wrestlers waiting to interact with him.

AEW Expands Into the Middle East and North Africa

AEW has reached a media-rights agreement with TOD, the streaming platform owned by beIN Media Group, that will bring Dynamite, Collision and major premium events to viewers throughout the Middle East and North Africa. Programming has already begun appearing on the platform.

International distribution isn’t the flashiest wrestling story, but this is the kind of business development that matters over time.

AEW spent years establishing its American television presence before expanding its live-event ambitions internationally. Making the weekly product easier to follow in additional markets supports those ambitions because occasional international events become much more valuable when the audience has consistent access to the stories leading into them.

Wembley proved AEW can draw internationally. The next step is making AEW television less dependent on where somebody happens to live.

Jim Ross Hopes to Make All Out

Jim Ross says an appearance at AEW All Out later this month is “in the cards” if his recovery continues progressing. Ross underwent surgery in August to remove fluid from his brain and has not yet been cleared for normal travel because doctors remain concerned about his balance and risk of falling. He said he feels capable of calling matches now but needs to become steadier before traveling.

The encouraging part is that Ross is discussing his return in terms of travel rather than whether he can still perform the job.

AEW has increasingly used JR selectively on major matches, which makes All Out a natural target if doctors clear him. He does not need to return to weekly television or call an entire pay-per-view.

One important match with Jim Ross still sounds like a major wrestling match. That remains valuable.

Zoey Serrano Says NXT Didn’t Prepare Her for WWE’s Main Roster

Zoey Serrano, formerly Zoey Stark, said during an appearance on Busted Open Radio that she doesn’t believe NXT truly prepares wrestlers for WWE’s main roster. Serrano explained that NXT talent receive detailed guidance from coaches and producers, while main-roster performers are expected to operate far more independently and essentially learn to “sink or swim.” Serrano was released by WWE in April and is now with TNA.

This is a useful distinction because the Performance Center can prepare somebody to wrestle on television without necessarily recreating what happens when WWE expects that person to function without the same support system.

Serrano isn’t arguing that NXT failed to teach her how to wrestle. She’s saying the environment changes dramatically once wrestlers graduate from it.

That raises an interesting developmental question. If the goal of NXT is producing Raw and SmackDown performers, should the final stage of development involve gradually removing some of those guardrails?

Sometimes “sink or swim” reveals who belongs. It can also result in somebody drowning before they completely understand the water.

WWE SmackDown Preview — September 4, 2026

Friday’s SmackDown centers on the fallout from Sami Zayn’s interference in last week’s Undisputed WWE Championship No. 1 Contender’s Triple Threat Match involving Kevin Owens, Finn Bálor and Gunther. Cody Rhodes will also speak before facing Randy Orton at Sunday Night’s Main Event, while Giulia finally gets her rescheduled match with Blake Monroe. Shinsuke Nakamura and Kyoki will make their SmackDown tandem debut against The Miz and Kit Wilson.

  • Giulia vs. Blake Monroe
  • Shinsuke Nakamura & Kyoki vs. The Miz & Kit Wilson
  • Cody Rhodes addresses Randy Orton
  • Sami Zayn’s WWE Championship attack fallout

The biggest question is what WWE actually intends to do with Zayn.

CM Punk still needs his next challenger, but Zayn attacking all three potential contenders with Punk’s championship transformed him from somebody outside the match into the person driving the entire story. WWE can restart the contender match, add Sami to it or decide that attacking everybody was enough to earn him Punk’s attention directly.

Cody and Orton have a simpler assignment. Their match is already happening Sunday. SmackDown just needs to make resisting the no-contact stipulation feel increasingly difficult.

Giulia and Monroe may have the most to gain from the actual wrestling. WWE delayed Monroe’s debut by turning the original match into an angle, which means Friday is the first opportunity to show what this rivalry looks like once the bell rings.

TNA Impact Results — September 3, 2026

Thursday’s Impact continued the company’s build toward Bound for Glory while advancing several championship stories.

  • AJ Francis defeated Brent Oakley
  • Indi Hartwell & Harley Hudson defeated Xia Brookside & Zoey Serrano
  • TNA X-Division Championship Qualifier – KC Navarro defeated Joe Alonzo
  • TNA Knockouts World Tag Team Championship – Allie & Kiera Hogan (c) defeated Shazza McKenzie & Vipress
  • Dutch defeated BDE
  • TNA International Championship No. 1 Contender – Jason Hotch vs. Trey Miguel ended in a no contest

Reed’s impending return could give WWE another legitimate upper-card heel at exactly the moment The Vision is entering another important chapter. TNA used Impact to complicate several championship races rather than simply handing out challengers, and AEW continues doing the less glamorous international business necessary to become a genuinely global promotion.

Then there’s SmackDown, where Sami Zayn has managed to become the center of a WWE Championship story without actually being one of the wrestlers competing for the opportunity.

Sometimes wrestling’s most effective next step is the one that creates another question instead of immediately providing the answer.
