Andrew’s MLW Fusion Results & Ratings: S8 E22
Opera Cup matches, a New York City Street Fight, and yet again, another squash match. And the crowd goes mild…
H.A.T.E. made their in-ring debut last week, and ended up pinning Lady Frost (which helps to probably prove why she left MLW a few days ago). Mark Coffey had a worthless match against Beastman, but at least Kimchee is still getting work. Soberano and Templario are really the only bright spots of the luchadors, so there match was pretty good.
But I don’t know what’s going on. We’re supposed to have the Opera Cup going on, but I think we’re getting some random story beat show with Skyscrapers vs Kross & Riddle, probably a useless Squash, and maybe they’ll remember the Opera Cup is going on. The way these shows are stitched together is pure idiocy.
It may not be the greeting @AustinAries was hoping for, but it can’t be called unexpected!!

Opera Cup: Ikuro Kwon w/Joseph Samael vs Andrew Everett
Well at least they remembered the Opera Cup is going on, but we get a mid carder versus an idiot. I’ll let you decide which one is which because I don’t care enough to sort out my own analogy.
Kwon charges, misses, eats a Kick and then a Moonsault. Not a ton of anything from Kwon, just quick hitter flippy stuff from Andrew. Dweeb tries a Chokeslam, so Kwon uppercuts him, Stun Gun into a Wheelbarrow Suplex for two. Then Kwon is stomping on Andrew and he powders. Kwon grabs him, a few strikes and Andrew tries to fight up abut an Eye Rake gets him turned inside out with an X-Plex with an extra half gainer.
Slows down to bad strikes, Andrew connects on a Release Belly to Belly to get space and rope stuff into a Springboard Waterwheel Kick from Andrew for two. Chokeslam attempt again, Kwon bites him, then works the joints, Kwon wants a PK but Andrew dodge, hits a Lionsault, Misses the second Lionsault, eats a Slingblade into Flatliner. Kwon wants the Shining Wizard, Andrew moves, apron side kicks, Springboard Corkscrew Moonsault for two. Andrew goes up, gets cut off and Kwon drops him with a big Shotei.
Samael grabs Andrew on purpose to take the referee’s attention and hits the Blinding Mist, into a Shining Wizard. Kwon wins.
Opera Cup: Wolfgang vs Big Damo w/Joseph Samael
And this is why MLW’s editing is stupid. Samael interfered in the last match, but he’s allowed to come down in the next match? There’s no story about the referees being to scared to ban him, and commentary doesn’t acknowledge it either. This is just such a poorly Frankensteined show.
Big boys do big things, typical Hoss start with Shoulder Charges and seeing who can out-fat the other one. They both go to the floor to run around the ring and charge into each other. They trade shots, Wolfgang Up and Overs Damo but Damo hits him with the Fun Splash and Wolfgang is flattened. A few Splashes, Scoop Slam and Leg Drop. Wolfgang fights back, hits his own Fun Splash in the corner, but when Wolfgang tries to lift Damo, he can’t and Damo turns the tides and hits another Scoop into Leg Drop. Damo goes up, but gets cut off. Wolfgang wants the Superplex and gets it. They both sell, charge into each other and Damo goes for the Fun Splash and Wolfgang catches him, Slam, Elbow Senton, he goes up for the Swanton, but Damo gets the knees up. Damo hits Cóiste Bodhar and moves on.
Are you ready?

Jumbo vs Rich Moya
It’s a Squash, literally, bell rings, he squishes the jobber in the corner and steps on him for the win. Useless.
There’s a promo between Riddle and Aries…this feels like it should’ve happened before LAST WEEK’S interview with Aries referencing Riddle when there was no story reason for it. Jesus Christ…whoever edits this should be fired.
New York City Street Fight: Killer Kross & Matt Riddle vs The Skyscrapers
Dijak is trying to gameplan with Bishop too long so Riddle and Kross just attack since it’s a Street Fight. Riddle and Bishop pair off, Kross and Dijak do the same. Early striking going to the outside. Kross finds Trash Can lids, hits Dijak, Riddle hits Bishop with a chair. Riddle and Bishop go in, and Bishop manages to club Riddle down and work him over. Dijak dodges a Trash Can Lid and posts Kross. This is just smash cut central. Dijak still hasn’t taken his Trench Coat off so Riddle gets him caught in it, Pump Knee, Bishop turns and Kross Sabus a Trash Can Lid into Bishop’s face.
Doomsday Saito, Broton on Dijak but Bishop makes the save. Kross gets the chair, seats it, hits Bishop with an Evenflow DDT and does the Raven pose. They wedge the chair in the corner, Bishop reverses and throws Kross into the chair. Riddle tries to cut down both Skyscrapers but they connect on Stereo Big Boots. Scarlet gets involved and Slaps Bishop, but Kross stops the retaliation. Scarlet gets in Dijak’s face and he Pie Faces Scarlet, so she spits beer in his eyes, weapon hits and Dijak is reeling. Bishop gets stuck in a trash can and then play kendo stick ball with Bishop. Fans throw in a shoe, Kross pelts the canned Bishop with the shoe and the crowd enjoys. After a brief commercial Kross is still in control. Bishop is working over Riddle and then goes after Kross to swing momentum a little.
Bishop works over Kross so Riddle cuts Bishop down, No Sells Round Kicks, Electric Chair’s him, then hits the Death Valley Driver out of the Chair. Chokeslam from Bishop, Moonsault from Dijak but Riddle kicks out. They keep Dijak out, Bishop gets the table and starts setting it up, Double Goozle, but Kross comes in with the Kendo Stick and lights up the Sky…scrapers. Kross tries to rally Riddle and we get an awkward Fighting Spirit spot.
Kross and Riddle have the advantage, look to turn the lights out, but a Double Low Blow. Scrapers get weapons, miss, countered. Doomsday Saito from Kross, Exploder from Riddle, RKO and Diamond Cutter spot with the appropriate homage pose. But Bishop no sells, throws out Riddle and Exit 187 for Kross. Bishop gets the pin and stands tall.
Dijak looks shocked, so that’s at least something.
Overall Score: 6/10
The main event was actually solid, the camera work is haptic and amateurish but what we saw of the match was fun. Bishop looked like a God for the finish, even having Dijak concerned about not being able to keep “the kid”, under his thumb anymore. So Skyscrapers should implode eventually if the bread crumbs are correct. JUMBO is worthless. Squash matches are worthless. I hated that. Andrew Everett has the worst gimmick ever for a promotion that wants to be taken even slightly seriously. Damo and Wolfgang was…tolerable. Not good, but not complete garbage.
But I can’t believe they really did the interviews in the wrong order. I remember wondering why Bochini was asking about Riddle last week to Aries, and now we see they have a tift over who should be next for Kross. I really am just dumbfounded at how useless this editing team is. Does no one quality check the continuity? Also, why are there no real stories? What happened to Bishop Dyer, he came back, just to not be around anymore. We all know he went back to WWE, but why wasn’t that touched on in a story? Frost was positioned to get a shot at the Featherweight and then it was just dropped because Masha showed up and H.A.T.E. arrived. Since Rina got the pin on Frost it jumps her to a title match next week? Like…where is the god damn sense in this show?
Zooming out a little and not concussing myself over the bad creative and worse editing – at least the episode was decent because it finished in an interesting way.
