Miami Vice ’85 reveals Crockett and Tubbs, No Man’s Sky heads to iPhone and VisionQuest arrives early on Disney+.
Monday delivered a strong combination of nostalgia, technology and one of Marvel’s most important television releases of the year.
Universal finally showed Michael B. Jordan and Austin Butler as Tubbs and Crockett in Miami Vice ’85, Hello Games somehow squeezed the full No Man’s Sky universe onto iPhones and iPads, and ABC handed High Potential television’s most valuable postgame time slot. Disney is also making a major play for CoComelon, while Marvel unexpectedly moved VisionQuest forward by a day.
It’s the Bandwagon Nerds News Report for October 13, 2026!
Michael B. Jordan and Austin Butler Suit Up for Miami Vice ’85
Universal released the first official images of Michael B. Jordan as Ricardo Tubbs and Austin Butler as Sonny Crockett in Miami Vice ’85 as production officially gets underway.
Joseph Kosinski is directing the new movie after Top Gun: Maverick and F1, with Nightcrawler and Andor writer Dan Gilroy handling the screenplay. The ensemble also includes Alden Ehrenreich, Whitney Peak, Camila Morrone, Danny Ramirez, Walton Goggins, André Holland and John Leguizamo, while the film is scheduled to reach theaters May 19, 2028.
The project will draw inspiration from the original Miami Vice pilot and first season, focusing on what Universal describes as the glamour and corruption of mid-1980s Miami. That detail matters because the series became culturally enormous partly because Michael Mann and his collaborators treated style, music and location as essential pieces of the storytelling rather than decoration.
Kosinski has already demonstrated with Top Gun that he understands how to revisit an unmistakably 1980s property without turning the entire production into an impersonation of the original. Casting Jordan and Butler also gives the movie two actors capable of carrying their own versions of Tubbs and Crockett rather than spending two hours trying to become Philip Michael Thomas and Don Johnson.
No Man’s Sky Is Putting an Entire Universe on Your Phone
Hello Games announced that No Man’s Sky will launch for iPhone and iPad on October 28, bringing the full procedural space-exploration game to mobile hardware.
This is not a reduced No Man’s Sky Mobile edition. Hello Games says the iOS release includes more than 40 major updates released since the game’s original 2016 launch, including last year’s Voyagers expansion and the recent Cosmos update.
The game will run on devices as old as the iPhone 11 and third-generation iPad Air, with touch controls alongside controller support and additional input options on iPad. Multiplayer and planetary settlements are among the features that will not make the jump, but the core universe and exploration systems remain intact.
No Man’s Sky has already traveled one of the strangest technical journeys in gaming. It launched with enormous expectations, rebuilt its reputation through years of free updates and then somehow kept moving onto hardware that initially seemed incapable of running it.
Getting the procedurally generated universe onto an iPhone may be the clearest demonstration yet of how far both the game and mobile hardware have come during the last decade.

High Potential Gets the Super Bowl Treatment
ABC has selected High Potential to air immediately following Super Bowl LXI on February 14, 2027, giving the Kaitlin Olson crime drama one of the most valuable promotional positions available on American television.
The episode will air simultaneously on ABC and Disney+ after the game, while Season 3 will begin earlier in 2027 and continue in its normal Tuesday slot. The series finished the 2025-26 television season as the No. 1 entertainment program among adults 18-49 and the No. 3 entertainment series in total multiplatform viewing.
Networks do not casually give away the post-Super Bowl slot. It is traditionally reserved for either a major established hit or something the network desperately wants to turn into one, because tens of millions of viewers are already sitting in front of the television.
High Potential clearly belongs in the first category now. What began as an American adaptation of the French series HPI has become one of ABC’s most important scripted properties, and putting Morgan Gillory directly after the Super Bowl is about as strong an endorsement as the network can provide.
CoComelon Is Leaving Netflix for Disney+
CoComelon is preparing to move its flagship series from Netflix to Disney+ while also making the jump to theaters with its first feature film.
The CoComelon Movie is being developed with DreamWorks and will center on JJ beginning kindergarten. Moonbug Entertainment is also looking to expand the property beyond its enormous preschool audience by building music and storytelling capable of appealing to parents alongside younger viewers.
That ambition makes more sense when the scale of the brand is considered. CoComelon began as a YouTube property and has grown into one of the largest children’s entertainment operations in the world, with more than 200 million YouTube subscribers and hundreds of billions of views.
Moving from Netflix to Disney+ is especially interesting because preschool programming is one of the few areas where viewing habits can become extremely sticky. Young children will watch the same characters repeatedly, meaning a successful kids franchise can become a powerful reason for families to keep a subscription.
Disney already understands that better than almost anyone. CoComelon now gives the company another enormous property capable of living across streaming, consumer products and eventually theaters.
A Haunting Is Coming Back With 16 New Episodes
Paranormal series A Haunting is being revived with 16 new episodes, nearly two decades after the franchise first emerged from television specials including A Haunting in Connecticut and A Haunting in Georgia.
Radial Entertainment is producing the revival with Jupiter Entertainment, with the new episodes expected to arrive in September 2027 through Radial’s Paranormal Chronicles FAST channel in select territories.
The format will remain familiar, combining firsthand accounts of alleged supernatural experiences with dramatic recreations. The revival plans to expand its use of photographs, home video, archival material and international stories while placing more emphasis on psychological dread.
A Haunting belongs to an era when cable television could build entire schedules around ghost stories, true crime and paranormal reenactments. Its return through a free, ad-supported streaming channel demonstrates how much FAST services have started recreating that old cable ecosystem.
There is clearly still an audience for this kind of programming. The distribution method has simply changed.
He-Man’s New Beat ’Em Up Gets a February Release
He-Man and the Masters of the Universe: Dragon Pearl of Destruction will launch February 4, 2027 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC.
Limited Run Games and Bitmap Bureau are building the title as a traditional side-scrolling beat ’em up, allowing players to control He-Man and other Masters of the Universe characters against Skeletor’s forces.
That genre feels almost suspiciously perfect for Masters of the Universe. He-Man does not need a gigantic open world or complicated progression tree nearly as much as he needs a sword, hordes of henchmen and increasingly ridiculous villains filling the screen.
The $29.99 price also positions Dragon Pearl of Destruction as something closer to the modern Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge model than a blockbuster licensed production.
There is plenty of room for sophisticated adaptations of older franchises, but sometimes the most authentic thing you can do with a property built around action figures and Saturday morning cartoons is make a game where He-Man punches people for several hours.
VisionQuest Arrives Tonight — One Day Early
Marvel unexpectedly moved VisionQuest forward from October 14 to October 13, meaning the Disney+ series premieres Tuesday night with its first two episodes.
Paul Bettany returns as Vision, who is living in hiding while attempting to understand his identity through the various artificial-intelligence personalities stored within his programming. James Spader also returns as Ultron, while Vision becomes connected to Thomas Shepherd, a mysterious teenager who may represent something much more important to his past.
VisionQuest completes the television trilogy that began with WandaVision and continued through Agatha All Along. Marvel will release two episodes at a time for the first three weeks before shifting to individual episodes for the final two installments.
The Ultron return is easily one of the most intriguing pieces. Avengers: Age of Ultron introduced one of Marvel’s most important comic villains and then seemingly killed him before he could become anything more than a one-film antagonist.
Putting Spader back opposite Bettany creates an opportunity to revisit that relationship without simply resurrecting Ultron for another large-scale robot invasion. VisionQuest appears much more interested in what two artificial beings think they are than in immediately turning their reunion into another Avengers-level crisis.
Miami Vice is becoming a period movie made four decades after the period it originally defined. No Man’s Sky is shrinking an effectively infinite universe onto a phone, while CoComelon is moving from YouTube and Netflix toward Disney and movie theaters.
VisionQuest might be the most fitting example. Vision has spent years asking whether an artificial creation can genuinely become a person, and now Marvel is returning to that question at a moment when artificial intelligence has become one of the defining cultural conversations outside comic books.
Sometimes old ideas become considerably more interesting because the world around them changed.
