The 10 Defining Moments of John Cena’s Career
3. Money in the Bank 2011
The following year those jaded fans it looked like they finally had the answer to Cena enter CM Punk. Punk famously cut his pipebomb promo on Cena and the WWE airing his grievances and promising to leave the company with Cena’s WWE title.
While it seems more like a defining moment for Punk Cena was just as vital to this angle. Fans were so keen to get behind Punk because they were tired of Cena being on top for so long. If Punk had went up against anyone else I don’t think it would have work as well. Cena was the establishment and Punk was an alternative.
The match itself is arguably one of if not Cena’s best match and his only 5 star rated match. Some have accused Cena of being carried through this match which I don’t think is fair. Cena and Punk be on different levels in ring it takes two to make a great match.
