Moose saves his TNA career, Worlds Collide may not air live and Sami Zayn returns to SmackDown as Undisputed WWE Champion.

Moose put everything on the line Thursday night and lived to fight another day.

The former TNA World Champion defeated Frankie Kazarian to save his TNA career as Bound For Glory continued taking shape around him. Elsewhere, WWE may be reconsidering how Worlds Collide airs opposite AEW All Out, Mercedes Moné’s status has altered AEW’s pay-per-view plans and Sami Zayn returns to SmackDown tonight as Undisputed WWE Champion.

It’s the Chairshot Wrestling News Report for September 18, 2026!

Moose Saves His TNA Career

Moose defeated Frankie Kazarian in Thursday’s Impact main event to preserve his TNA career. Kazarian repeatedly targeted Moose with the chicken wing and nearly won by countout after sending him through the announce table, but Moose survived before connecting with consecutive Spears to secure the victory.

The stipulation gave a television match unusually significant stakes because Moose’s relationship with TNA extends far beyond another storyline. He has been one of the promotion’s most identifiable performers through multiple eras, making the possibility of Kazarian actually forcing him out feel more consequential than the usual career-threatening stipulation.

Moose’s post-match response also kept the rivalry from ending quietly. He placed Kazarian’s crown in the ring, smashed it with a chair and kicked it away, turning survival into another personal insult rather than simply celebrating the victory.

TNA Impact Results — September 17, 2026

Thursday’s Impact continued building toward Bound For Glory while featuring the first televised defense of the Knockouts Television Championship, another X-Division qualifier and Zoey Serrano’s TNA singles debut.

  • TNA Knockouts Television Championship – M by Elegance (c) defeated Kiera Hogan
  • X-Division Championship Qualifier – Rich Swann defeated LJ Cleary
  • Elijah & Ricky Sosa defeated Eddie Edwards & Cedric Alexander
  • Leon Slater defeated Ryan Nemeth
  • Zoey Serrano defeated Harley Hudson
  • TNA Career-on-the-Line Match – Moose defeated Frankie Kazarian

The results gave Bound For Glory several new pieces without making the episode feel like nothing more than setup. Swann joined KC Navarro and Fabian Aichner in the developing X-Division Championship match, while Slater continued toward his TNA World Championship opportunity against Nic Nemeth despite Nic attacking him after the victory over Ryan Nemeth.

Serrano also won cleanly in her first TNA singles match before Daria Rae ordered her to continue attacking Hudson. Indi Hartwell made the save, giving Serrano a more defined issue inside the Knockouts division rather than leaving her recent aggression as disconnected segments.

Matt Hardy Becomes the Latest Mystery Attack Victim

Impact ended with Matt Hardy lying face-down backstage while two unidentified figures stood over him. TNA deliberately avoided revealing the attackers, continuing a mystery that has been developing through recent episodes.

The closing shot is worth watching because TNA is clearly positioning the attacks as more than incidental backstage violence. The presentation included enough visual clues to immediately produce speculation about who might be responsible, but nothing shown Thursday definitively identified the attackers.

That distinction matters because mystery angles usually become less interesting when speculation is reported as fact. For now, the important development is straightforward: Matt Hardy has become the highest-profile victim, which increases the likelihood that the reveal is connected to something larger than one isolated feud.

Ricky Sosa Gets Eddie Edwards at Bound For Glory

Ricky Sosa scored another significant victory Thursday when he teamed with Elijah to defeat Eddie Edwards and Cedric Alexander. Edwards responded after the match by attacking Sosa and subsequently challenged the rookie to face him at Bound For Glory.

The match gives Sosa exactly the kind of veteran test that can establish where TNA believes he belongs. Edwards has enough history with the promotion to function as a legitimate gatekeeper, meaning Sosa does not need a championship involved for the match to represent a meaningful step upward.

It also gives the story a simple foundation. Sosa has been insisting that he belongs, and Edwards now intends to make him prove it on the promotion’s biggest event of the year.

Mustafa Ali Returns Next Week

Mustafa Ali will return to action on the September 24 Impact after recovering from fractured ribs and a punctured lung suffered at Lockdown. Ali will defend the TNA International Championship against Trey Miguel and Jason Hotch in a Triple Threat Match.

That is a considerably faster return than the initial description of the injuries might have suggested. TNA keeping the championship on Ali through the absence now pays off because his first match back immediately carries stakes rather than becoming a tune-up appearance.

Next week will also feature a four-way match between Elayna Black, Gabby Forza, Harley Hudson and Jada Stone to determine the next challenger for M by Elegance’s Knockouts Television Championship.

Worlds Collide May Not Air Live

WWE x AAA Worlds Collide: Chicago may not air live on September 26 despite taking place opposite AEW All Out. Dave Meltzer reported that WWE has considered airing the event later instead of broadcasting it head-to-head, although WWE has not formally announced a change to the show’s distribution plans.

That would substantially change the conversation surrounding the event. Worlds Collide had increasingly looked like direct counterprogramming after the Allstate Arena advertised several possible matches and CM Punk was confirmed for the card, but a delayed broadcast would remove much of the live viewing competition.

The arena-advertised lineup still suggests WWE and AAA intend to present something much larger than a routine developmental crossover. What remains unclear is whether WWE wants viewers choosing between Worlds Collide and All Out in real time or simply wants both events occupying the same wrestling weekend.

Mercedes Moné Is Not Cleared for All Out

Mercedes Moné is not medically cleared to compete at AEW All Out, changing another part of a pay-per-view card rapidly taking shape around Will Ospreay, Jon Moxley and several developing personal rivalries. AEW addressed her status during this week’s Dynamite.

AEW has enough depth to absorb one missing performer, but Moné remains one of the company’s most recognizable stars and has been heavily connected to its women’s championship landscape. Her absence therefore affects more than simply removing one match from the card.

The important question is whether this is a brief interruption or something that forces longer-term adjustments. AEW can reconfigure one pay-per-view relatively easily, while an extended absence would change several stories around the women’s division.

Sami Zayn Returns to SmackDown as WWE Champion

Sami Zayn appears on SmackDown tonight for the first time since defeating CM Punk for the Undisputed WWE Championship in Mexico City. The championship picture surrounding him remains crowded, with Punk, Kevin Owens, Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes and several other major names positioned close enough to become future challengers.

That is what makes Sami’s second reign more interesting than the chase that produced it. Winning the championship resolved the grievance that drove him for weeks, but the chaos surrounding his victory created multiple people with legitimate reasons to pursue him.

Friday needs to establish what kind of champion Zayn intends to become now that he no longer gets to define himself as the person fighting against an injustice.

Cody Rhodes Addresses Randy Orton

Cody Rhodes will also return to SmackDown for a sit-down interview following his loss to Randy Orton at Sunday Night’s Main Event. The defeat pushed their relationship into more personal territory while keeping Cody close to the larger championship ecosystem without immediately inserting him into Sami Zayn’s first defense.

That spacing is useful because SmackDown suddenly has more top-level contenders than it can realistically place into one program. Cody and Orton can continue their issue independently while WWE determines who steps forward first against Sami.

It also gives Cody something meaningful to pursue that does not immediately revolve around winning another championship, which should help keep both stories from cannibalizing each other.

Jeff Cobb Explains His WWE-NJPW Contract Situation

Jeff Cobb confirmed that he was already under WWE contract during the final portion of his 2025 New Japan run, explaining why he departed before completing the Wrestling Dontaku tour as originally planned. Cobb said the contractual situation was outside his control and connected that history to his current issue with Callum Newman.

The clarification fills in one of the missing pieces from Cobb’s abrupt departure. Wrestling exits frequently generate speculation about backstage disagreements when the explanation can sometimes be much simpler: a new contract changed what somebody was legally permitted to do.

New Japan has also found a useful way to incorporate that legitimate history into Cobb’s return. Newman can resent the opportunity Cobb left behind, while Cobb can argue that his departure inadvertently created the space Newman needed to develop.

SmackDown Preview — September 18, 2026

Tonight’s SmackDown centers on Sami Zayn’s first appearance as champion since Mexico City, Cody Rhodes addressing Randy Orton and additional Money in the Bank qualifying matches.

  • Sami Zayn appears as Undisputed WWE Champion
  • Cody Rhodes sits down for an exclusive interview
  • Men’s Money in the Bank qualifying continues
  • Women’s Money in the Bank qualifying continues

Thursday gave TNA considerably more momentum toward Bound For Glory than a simple results list would suggest. Moose preserved his career, Sosa landed one of the biggest matches of his young run, Swann moved closer to the X-Division Championship and the attack on Matt Hardy created another reason to watch next week beyond the advertised matches.

Friday shifts the attention back toward WWE, but the larger wrestling landscape is becoming unusually crowded heading into late September. Bound For Glory stories are taking shape, Worlds Collide and All Out occupy the same weekend and WWE has a new world champion trying to determine what his reign actually looks like.

That is a much healthier Friday report than simply treating Thursday as the empty space between Dynamite and SmackDown.
