WWE News: Jerry Lawler Provides Scary Medical Update

Published

on

If you remember, previously we reported on a major health scare for WWE Hall Of Famer Jerry ‘The King’ Lawler. ‘The King’ had revealed that a couple of weeks prior to calling the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal at WrestleMania, he had suffered a minor stroke (which you can read here). Lawler would provide further details later on in episodes of his Dinner With The King podcast (which can be found here) and it appeared as if the former AWA Champion had gotten away damage free. However, that no longer appears to be the case…sort of.

In the post-Greatest Royal Rumble edition of Dinner With The King, Lawler would state that he went in for a follow-up with his doctor that revealed he had suffered brain damage:

“I had my first follow up with a neurologist, Dr. Weaver here in Memphis that came to see me while I was in Intensive Care and everything with my stroke. I had to get a cat scan today; but, the cool thing is he showed me a picture, brought me back and showed me a picture of my brain and this was not something I wanted to hear. He said, ‘Let me show you your brain & your brain damage.’ I said, ‘What?’ And he said, ‘Yeah, take a look.’ So anyway he shows me the scan of my brain and there was a spot on it, a dark spot, about the size of a quarter. He said, ‘When you were in the hospital that spot was solid white because it was solid blood. Now the blood has been absorbed and that is cells that have been damaged.’ I said, ‘So that amount of cells were damaged?’ He said, ‘Oh yeah, you’re just very fortunate…if that amount, that size, had been further down inside your brain, you could have lost the whole use of the whole left side of your body.’ I have no residual effects at all, I’m lucky.”

‘The King’ would also add that he was told by his doctor he should be fine and will avoid another stroke provided he continues taking his blood pressure medicine.

Rey Mysterio
A 2/3 Falls Match has been announced for SmackDown Live!

In case you missed it, Tuesday’s episode of WWE’s SmackDown Live (catch up with Mitchell’s Live Report) featured an instant classic of a wrestling match between Rey Mysterio and the newly renamed Andrade.

It was a back-and-forth battle that had fans in the arena and at home on the edge of their seats as ‘El Idolo’ scored a huge victory over the multi-time WWE Champion. It looks like the WWE Universe won’t have to wait long to see the two square-off again as today the company announced that they will clash next week on SmackDown Live, but this time in a 2/3 Falls Match. This is on top of the already announced match that will see Mustafa Ali go one-on-one with Samoa Joe:

In a match that had the entire WWE Universe captivated, Andrade was able to best Rey Mysterio in a thriller last week on SmackDown LIVE after Zelina Vega got involved. Now, the two Superstars are going to run it back in a match that will go a long way in proving who the better man is when they face off in a 2-out-of-3 Falls Match this Tuesday night on the blue brand.

Will Mysterio get the leg up on Andrade this time around? Or, will the surging Andrade take down The Greatest Mask of All Time again, seizing pivotal Royal Rumble momentum in the process?

Find out when SmackDown LIVE airs on USA Network this Tuesday night at 8/7 C!

While the RAW roster is currently on tour this weekend (see results from last night’s Live Event here), the WWE is already revealing what we can expect from Monday’s broadcast. Today, WWE has announced a Tag Team Match for the show, as RAW Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey will pair up with Natalya to take on Bayley and Rousey’s Royal Rumble challenger, Sasha Banks:
