Will Ospreay survives Clockwork Carnage, Ilja Dragunov debuts in AEW, new Trios Champions are crowned, and CMLL makes history in Mexico.

Will Ospreay survived seven challengers and the unpredictable rules of Clockwork Carnage to retain the AEW World Championship at Saturday’s WrestleDream. The champion scored the decisive fall in the closing seconds of the inaugural match, overcoming a field that included Samoa Joe, Adam Copeland, Kazuchika Okada and Darby Allin.

WrestleDream also delivered a major arrival, as Ilja Dragunov made his official AEW debut following weeks of mysterious promotional videos. Hangman Page, Bandido and Brody King captured the World Trios Championship, while Jon Moxley endured a brutal defense against Mark Davis.

Outside AEW, CMLL crowned its 2026 Universal de Amazonas winner during an all-women’s event featuring Britt Baker’s Arena México debut. WWE NXT also faced a concerning situation following an injury to Channing Lorenzo at a live event in Canada.

It’s the Chairshot Wrestling News Report for October 18, 2026!

Will Ospreay Survives Clockwork Carnage to Retain AEW World Championship

Will Ospreay emerged from WrestleDream with the AEW World Championship after scoring three points in the inaugural Clockwork Carnage Match. The champion outlasted seven challengers in a contest that combined staggered entrances, eliminations and a 15-minute scoring period, ultimately securing the deciding fall with only seconds remaining.

Ospreay and Konosuke Takeshita began the match, followed by Mike Bailey, Ricochet, Darby Allin, Kazuchika Okada, Adam Copeland and Samoa Joe. Before the final entrant arrived, Takeshita eliminated Bailey with Raging Fire, only to be eliminated himself by Okada’s Rainmaker. That left six competitors to fight for points once Joe entered and the timed portion began.

The scoring period produced frequent changes in momentum. Joe pinned Allin with a Muscle Buster before Ricochet capitalized on the fallen wrestler for another point. Okada scored against Copeland, while Ospreay earned his first fall by defeating Ricochet with a Styles Clash.

Allin briefly emerged as a serious threat, scoring consecutive falls against Ospreay and Copeland. Ospreay responded by pinning Allin with the Hidden Blade, but Joe subsequently forced the champion to submit to the Coquina Clutch. Copeland then collected two points with consecutive spears, creating a four-way tie near the end.

With the clock winding down, Copeland appeared positioned to take control after spearing Okada. Ospreay interrupted the cover with a Hidden Blade and pinned Copeland, securing his third point just before time expired. Copeland initially shoved the champion afterward but eventually offered a handshake, acknowledging Ospreay’s victory.

The result gives Ospreay another successful defense while establishing Clockwork Carnage as a potentially recurring AEW attraction. The format allowed several challengers to score meaningful victories without requiring the champion to dominate every exchange, and Copeland’s frustration provides a possible direction for future television.

The Motor City Machine Guns took the early advantage in their best-of-five series against FTR, winning a match that began during Tailgate Brawl and continued into the pay-per-view. Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin overcame interference attempts involving Stokely Hathaway to secure the victory, giving them a 1–0 series lead. The pre-show also featured the return of Jay White, who joined the Bang Bang Gang and The Conglomeration in a losing effort against the Death Riders and The Dogs after a brief injury-related absence.

WrestleDream’s only championship change saw Hangman Adam Page, Bandido and Brody King defeat Swerve Strickland, Kofi Kingston and Austin Creed to capture the AEW World Trios Championship. The challengers recovered from losing the opening fall before Bandido countered Strickland’s Big Pressure into a victory roll to secure the deciding pin. Afterward, Kingston and Creed accepted the defeat and handed over the championships, but Strickland argued with his partners and refused to show the same sportsmanship, raising questions about the future of their alliance.

Ilja Dragunov made his official AEW debut following weeks of mysterious promotional videos featuring metronome imagery. Introduced by Renee Paquette, the former NXT Champion entered to a strong reception but did not wrestle or confront anyone. Tony Khan subsequently confirmed his signing, adding another established singles competitor to AEW’s roster without immediately revealing his first rivalry.

Jon Moxley retained the Continental Championship against Mark Davis in a punishing encounter that left both competitors bleeding. Davis, who had pinned Moxley on Dynamite, controlled significant portions of the match before the champion rallied and applied a bodyscissors sleeper, forcing a referee stoppage. Moxley was visibly exhausted afterward as his Death Riders teammates helped him recover, while Davis emerged from the defeat having pushed the champion to his limits.

Mercedes Moné retained the Women’s World Championship against Thekla after using her protective face mask as a weapon behind the referee’s back, then finishing the challenger with the Moné Maker. The Young Bucks also survived their World Tag Team Championship defense against Kyle Fletcher and Kevin Knight, capitalizing when Knight accidentally struck his partner before delivering the BTE Trigger. The finish adds tension within the Don Callis Family while preserving the Bucks’ reign.

Elsewhere, Persephone retained the TBS Championship in a four-way match, Andrade El Ídolo defeated Tommaso Ciampa to keep the National Championship, and Nick Wayne beat Chris Jericho to win their three-match series. With the World Championship and most secondary titles remaining in place, WrestleDream’s biggest changes came from the Trios Championship switch, Dragunov’s arrival and several developing rivalries heading toward Full Gear.

CMLL Crowns Olympia Universal de Amazonas Champion; Britt Baker Debuts

CMLL presented an all-women’s edition of Viernes Espectacular at Arena México on October 16, featuring the conclusion of its Universal de Amazonas tournament and the promotional debut of AEW’s Britt Baker. The event also included several international competitors, continuing CMLL’s growing relationships with AEW and Japanese women’s wrestling.

Olympia defeated Skadi in the tournament final to become the 2026 Universal de Amazonas winner. The championship represents one of CMLL’s most significant annual women’s accomplishments, with the tournament bringing together leading competitors from the promotion’s roster.

The main event featured two physically imposing wrestlers, with Skadi using her strength to threaten Olympia throughout the contest. Olympia eventually overcame the challenge and secured the victory, adding another important achievement to her career.

Baker made her Arena México debut alongside Persephone against Thunder Rosa and Tessa Blanchard. The AEW star secured the victory for her team by forcing Rosa to submit to the Lockjaw, providing a successful introduction to the historic venue.

The show also featured significant Japanese participation. STARDOM’s Momo Watanabe teamed with Emersyn Jayne to defeat Keyra and Zeuxis, while AZM and Miyu Amasaki lost to India Sioux and Lluvia. Kira also defeated Hera in a lightning match, adding momentum ahead of her upcoming IWGP Women’s Championship opportunity against Syuri.

The international involvement gives the event significance beyond the tournament result. CMLL continues to provide a platform where established Mexican wrestlers compete against recognizable names from AEW and Japan, creating opportunities for new rivalries and future championship programs.

WWE NXT’s Channing Lorenzo Hospitalized Following Live Event Injury

WWE NXT performer Channing “Stacks” Lorenzo was reportedly hospitalized following an injury during Friday’s live event in Sudbury, Ontario. The incident occurred during an eight-man tag team match involving BirthRight and a team featuring Tony D’Angelo, Tavion Heights, Shiloh Hill and Shawn Spears.

According to reports from attendees, Lorenzo was injured while taking a back body drop from the ring to the floor. Witnesses indicated that he may have struck the ring post before landing, prompting the referee to stop the match and request medical assistance.

Lorenzo was fitted with a neck brace and removed from ringside on a stretcher. Bryan Alvarez subsequently reported that he had been taken to a hospital, although no confirmed diagnosis or details regarding the severity of the injury were available.

Spears addressed the audience after the incident, acknowledging the unexpected circumstances and thanking those in attendance. WWE had not released an official medical update on Lorenzo’s condition as of Saturday’s reporting.

The situation is particularly concerning because Lorenzo has remained active in NXT’s BirthRight faction alongside Charlie Dempsey, Lexis King, Uriah Connors and Arianna Grace. His immediate wrestling schedule is uncertain, and any discussion of a recovery timetable would be premature without additional medical information.

WrestleDream delivered several consequential developments as AEW moves toward Full Gear on November 14. Ospreay remains World Champion, Hangman Page and Brodido hold the Trios Championship, and Dragunov’s arrival introduces another major name into the promotion’s singles division.

Beyond AEW, CMLL’s all-women’s event demonstrated the continued importance of international partnerships, while the wrestling community awaits further information regarding Lorenzo’s condition. Sunday’s news cycle will largely center on the fallout from WrestleDream and the next directions for its champions and challengers.
