Big Dave Ungar covers the crazy world of pro wrestling as we head towards SummerSlam!

On Episode 253, we take a look at some of the recent build to some of the biggest events of the summer: NXT Takeover Toronto II, Summer Slam ’19, and NXT UK Takeover: Cardiff. Along the way, we question why Summer Slam is shaping up to be filled with rematches and retreads of things we have seen before? Is this what Summer Slam needs and are there enough subtle differences to make this year’s biggest party of the summer worth watching?

Meanwhile, the Main Event of NXT Takeover: Toronto II took shape as Johnny Cargano and Adam Cole each chose their respective stipulations for their huge NXT Championship match coming up in Toronto. Who has the edge now? Along the way, a tremendous Triple Threat for the North American Championship was booked and we explore why it might be the perfect matchup for those involved.

We also discuss 205 Live, ponder whether Imperium might be the most powerful faction in WWE, and discuss AEW’s big announcement of their debut episode coming to TNT on Wednesday 10/2/19. Are the Wednesday Night Wars upon us…..and is picking a fight with NXT smart on the part of AEW?

We then close out this Episode with a Watch Along. Shortly after WrestleMania, Big Rick and Big Dave got together to watch one of the greatest WrestleMania matches of all-time: “Macho Man” Randy Savage vs Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat from WrestleMania III. The Big Five Project returns to cover one of the worst PPVs of all time, King of the Ring 1995. Seriously, this is an event that kind of makes WrestleMania IX look good by comparison. Vince McMahon had all the elements in place to make this an event to remember. Well, it was an event to remember for all the wrong reasons. The bracket for the King of the Ring tournament was pretty solid. But bad matches and even worse booking decisions led us to the crowning of….King Mabel? Oh, and if that was not bad enough, Vince threw Bret “Hitman” Hart, the best wrestler in the company, into a meaningless Kiss My Foot match with Jerry “The King” Lawler. The fact that match was one of the better matches on the card tells you so much of what you need to know, and we have not event talked about the Main Event pitting the WWF Champion Diesel, and his tag team partner, Bam Bam Bigelow, against Sycho Sid and Tatanka in a match that redefined the word meaningless. If you are asking why….well you are not the only ones as we asked ourselves the same question over and over during this PPV that really epitomizes just how rough things were in WWF during the first half of 1995. Rob returns to the show and joins Dave, DJ, and PC Tunney to cover it all for you here, so you don’t have to watch it yourself. You can thank us later.
