Shanky: “No racism” backstage in WWE, recalls climb from Great Khali’s school to Raw
In an exclusive with F4WOnline, former WWE star Shanky said there was no racism backstage during his time on the main roster, describing a collaborative environment where he ate with Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins and others. He noted he bypassed NXT to go straight to Raw and SmackDown, credited Jinder Mahal as a mentor, and recalled Vince McMahon approving the name “Shanky” while removing “Singh” from his presentation.
Shanky also detailed the difficult road to WWE, from struggling to afford training at The Great Khali’s school—his father borrowed funds to cover fees—to early injuries and virtually no pay on the Indian independent scene. After quitting and working in Indian TV, he re-entered WWE via a Mumbai tryout, was released in 2023, and now competes for Oceania Pro Wrestling in Melbourne, where he recently lost the OPW Global Title to Parker Boudreaux.
