Saquon Barkley NFL Home Invasion

Saquon Barkley’s family escapes a home invasion unharmed, NFL players renew their push for natural grass, Rashan Gary embraces Dallas and more.

Saquon Barkley and his family were unharmed after an intruder entered the Philadelphia Eagles running back’s Pennsylvania home early Saturday morning.

Elsewhere, NFL players increased their pressure on owners to replace artificial turf with natural grass, Rashan Gary set high expectations for his first season in Dallas, and Eagles rookie Makai Lemon declared himself ready for training camp.

It’s the Chairshot NFL News Report for July 19, 2026!

Saquon Barkley’s Family Unhurt During Home Invasion

Saquon Barkley’s residence was targeted at approximately 5 a.m. Saturday in the Malvern section of Tredyffrin Township, Pennsylvania. Barkley and his family were inside the home when at least one intruder entered, but nobody was physically injured.

The suspects fled before police arrived, and investigators believe multiple people and more than one vehicle may have been involved. Authorities said nothing appeared to have been taken from the residence.

Police released an image of a white SUV that may be connected to the incident and asked nearby residents to review security footage recorded around the time of the break-in. The investigation remained active Saturday night.

NFL Players Renew Push for Natural Grass Fields

The NFL Players Association’s campaign for natural grass gained additional momentum as the World Cup approached its final match at MetLife Stadium.

Seven NFL stadiums that normally use artificial turf installed natural grass for the tournament, including SoFi Stadium, AT&T Stadium, MetLife Stadium, Gillette Stadium, NRG Stadium, Mercedes-Benz Stadium and Lumen Field. Players have pointed to those temporary conversions as evidence that owners can provide grass when they consider it financially worthwhile.

George Kittle, Caleb Williams, Jonathan Taylor, Laremy Tunsil and Sam LaPorta were among the players supporting the coordinated #WorthTheCost campaign. The NFLPA has said that 92% of surveyed players prefer natural grass to synthetic turf.

Most of the affected stadiums are expected to remove the grass and return to artificial surfaces before the NFL season. That decision will keep the issue alive as the league and players continue discussing safety, maintenance costs and whether grass can be sustained inside enclosed stadiums.

Rashan Gary Wants to Become a Dominant Force in Dallas

Rashan Gary is setting his sights considerably higher than simply becoming another contributor on the Cowboys’ rebuilt defense. The former Packers pass rusher said he wants to become a dominant player and establish a legacy his children can remember. Gary recorded 46.5 sacks during seven seasons in Green Bay before Dallas acquired him for a 2027 fourth-round draft pick.

Dallas overhauled its defense by hiring Christian Parker as coordinator, trading for Gary and Dee Winters, signing Jalen Thompson and Cobie Durant, and using its two first-round selections on Caleb Downs and Malachi Lawrence.

Gary’s pressure rate has declined during each of the past four seasons, falling from 19% in 2022 to 12.1% last year. Reversing that trend will be necessary if he is going to become the centerpiece Dallas expects rather than simply another recognizable addition.

Makai Lemon Says He Is Ready for Eagles Training Camp

Makai Lemon said he feels completely healthy after a hamstring injury kept him out of Philadelphia’s mandatory minicamp. The No. 20 overall pick expects to participate when the Eagles begin training camp, although he must still receive final clearance from the team’s medical staff. Lemon caught 79 passes for 1,156 yards and 11 touchdowns during his final season at USC.

Philadelphia selected Lemon after trading A.J. Brown to New England. He will join DeVonta Smith, Marquise Brown, Dontayvion Wicks, Dallas Goedert and rookie tight end Eli Stowers in an offense attempting to replace Brown’s size and production collectively.

A healthy camp is particularly important for Lemon after he missed valuable installation work during the spring. The Eagles do not need him to replace Brown by himself, but they will need their first-round pick to contribute immediately from the slot.

NFL Network Remains Unavailable to Xfinity Customers

NFL Network and RedZone remain unavailable through Comcast’s Xfinity television service because of a carriage dispute involving Comcast and Disney. The channels went dark May 1, one month after ESPN officially assumed control of NFL Network. Disney proposed keeping the channels available while negotiations continued, but Comcast declined and removed them from its lineup.

The blackout has attracted limited attention during the offseason, when RedZone does not air and NFL Network carries fewer exclusive programs. Pressure will increase once training-camp coverage begins and become significantly greater if RedZone remains unavailable when the regular season starts.

Xfinity subscribers still have time before the first full Sunday of games, but carriage disputes often remain unresolved until customers begin threatening cancellations. Football season provides both sides with a firm deadline even if neither publicly acknowledges one.

NFL Kickers Discuss Four-Point Field Goal

The UFL’s decision to award four points for field goals of at least 60 yards has created discussion about whether the NFL could eventually consider a similar rule.

Cowboys kicker Brandon Aubrey supported the concept, arguing that successfully converting such a difficult attempt deserves an additional reward. Other kickers expressed concern that the change would alter late-game strategy and create situations where teams intentionally lose yardage to move behind the 60-yard threshold.

The NFL previously experimented with a four-point field goal in NFL Europe but never brought it to the primary league. There is currently no significant momentum within the Competition Committee to adopt the UFL rule.

The NFL has borrowed successful ideas from alternative leagues before, most notably the modified kickoff format. The four-point field goal is more likely to remain a spring-football attraction unless the UFL demonstrates that it improves games without producing unintended strategic consequences.

NFL Transactions — July 18, 2026

  • San Francisco 49ers signed punter Jack Bouwmeester to a three-year contract
  • San Francisco 49ers placed tight end Khalil Dinkins on the active/non-football injury list
  • Seattle Seahawks placed defensive tackle Deven Eastern on the physically unable to perform list

The Barkley incident is another unsettling reminder that professional athletes and their families can become targets inside their own homes. The most important outcome is that everyone escaped unharmed, but the early-morning intrusion will likely force another conversation about the security measures surrounding high-profile players.

The grass campaign carries consequences for far more athletes. NFL owners demonstrated that their stadiums can temporarily support natural surfaces when the World Cup required them, making the familiar argument that conversion is impossible increasingly difficult to defend.

Gary and Lemon will soon have opportunities to move beyond offseason optimism. Dallas needs its veteran acquisition to reverse several years of declining pressure production, while Philadelphia needs its first-round receiver healthy enough to absorb a meaningful role immediately.
