Hockey Talk- Choking Chokers [050923]

On this weeks Hockey Talk, Patrick & Dave look at some epic choke jobs that punctuated the end of the 1st Round of the NHL Playoffs….and another gargantuan choke job happening in the Conference Semi-Finals as we speak! The Boston Bruins set all sorts of records this season….including the one that they most wanted to avoid as they suffered might what have been the biggest upset in NHL Playoff history. Meanwhile, the New York Rangers spent a ton on rentals to help them get to the next level….but then forgot to show up for game 7 against the New Jersey Devils. The Colorado Avalanche made history of the wrong kind as well, becoming the first defending Cup Champion to be the victims of an expansion franchises first playoff series victory. Oh, don’t think we forgot about you Toronto. The Maple Leafs finally…finally…got to the 2nd round. Then, they forgot to show up as well and now face a nearly insurmountable 3-0 series deficit. At least the Hurricanes, Stars, Kraken, Knights, & Oilers seem to have their act together. Or do they? The guys have lots of questions on this Episode of Hockey Talk so don’t choke on it.

The Big Five Project returns to cover one of the worst PPVs of all time, King of the Ring 1995. Seriously, this is an event that kind of makes WrestleMania IX look good by comparison. Vince McMahon had all the elements in place to make this an event to remember. Well, it was an event to remember for all the wrong reasons. The bracket for the King of the Ring tournament was pretty solid. But bad matches and even worse booking decisions led us to the crowning of….King Mabel? Oh, and if that was not bad enough, Vince threw Bret “Hitman” Hart, the best wrestler in the company, into a meaningless Kiss My Foot match with Jerry “The King” Lawler. The fact that match was one of the better matches on the card tells you so much of what you need to know, and we have not event talked about the Main Event pitting the WWF Champion Diesel, and his tag team partner, Bam Bam Bigelow, against Sycho Sid and Tatanka in a match that redefined the word meaningless. If you are asking why….well you are not the only ones as we asked ourselves the same question over and over during this PPV that really epitomizes just how rough things were in WWF during the first half of 1995. Rob returns to the show and joins Dave, DJ, and PC Tunney to cover it all for you here, so you don’t have to watch it yourself. You can thank us later.
