Backstage: Knocking on Brock Lesnar’s locker room door is Jon Stewart, only to have Paul Heyman answer. Jon wants a word with Brock, but Heyman won’t give it to him. Stewart wonders if it’s because he’s an ‘Undertaker guy’. Paul asks what happened when ‘his guy’ met The Beast, wondering if he was upset. Jon explains to him that he’s a wrestling fan and when Lesnar broke The Streak, it was like getting coal on Christmas morning. Stewart wants to know what Heyman has to say about that, Heyman simply sings “Glory, Glory Brock Lesnar”.

Match #6: Bray Wyatt & Luke Harper vs. Dean Ambrose & Roman Reigns
Harper & Ambrose start out exchanging shots, Harper reverses a whip into the ropes, Dean ducks a right and hits a crossbody. He lands a clothesline in the corner, follows with a running bulldog, Wyatt hits the ring and is met by Reigns. Roman & Dean send Harper to the floor, The Lunatic Fringe following with a suicide dive. Bray takes out Roman on the floor, Dean rams Wyatt into the announce table, Harper comes back with a kick to Ambrose. He sets for a powerbomb, Dean slips out and Reigns flies off the steel steps with a clothesline to Harper.

Ambrose hops on the Spanish announce table, runs across all 3 and hits Bray with a clothesline in the timekeeper’s area. Back in the ring, right hands and chops for Harper, Dean tags out, hits a running dropkick and The Big Dog follows it up with a clothesline. Dean tagging back in, delivers a diving elbow off the top and gets a count of 2. He locks Harper for Dirty Deeds, Bray with a distraction from the apron that allows Harper to blindside Ambrose.

Reigns goes around ringside after The New Face Of Fear, Bray catches him with a right hand, uses a little help from Harper and then plants Roman on the apron with a one-arm slam. Harper rolls out and hits Reigns with a superkick, sending him flying over an announce table. Dean goes for a suicide dive on The Wyatts, they catch him and push him back toward the ring, Dean tries to rebound with a clothesline and meets Harper’s boot, Bray following with a running senton on the floor. The Eater Of Worlds tags in, sends The Lunatic Fringe inside and tosses him with a release vertical suplex.

Harper re-enters, hammering Ambrose in the corner with clubbing blows and chops. Wyatt back in, dragging Dean to the outside through the 2nd rope and hitting a vertical suplex to the floor. They head back inside, Bray unleashes heavy rights, Harper with a tag and a big boot for a near fall. Luke grabs a crossface on The Lunatic Fringe, The New Face Of Fear with a running senton off the tag, covers and only gets 2. Dean looks to tag, but Reigns is still out on the floor, Wyatt sends him into the corner and charges in with a splash for a 2 count.

Luke comes in, toying with Dean and connecting with a Decapitator for another count of 2. Bray enters for more heavy right hands, goes for another corner splash, Ambrose follows him in with a clothesline, hits the ropes and eats a right hand. Dean rebounds off the ropes with a Pendulum Clothesline, crawls to his corner as Roman gets back on the apron and makes the tag, Harper entering on the other side. Reigns goes to work with numerous clotheslines, runs into a back elbow and a boot in the corner, but combats it with multiple throw suplexes.

He has Harper in his crosshairs for a Superman Punch, Bray distracts from the apron and takes a right hand, thus allowing Harper to land a superkick, then plant The Big Dog with a sit-out powerbomb for a near fall. Wyatt tags in, Harper sets for a powerbomb as Bray heads to the 2nd rope. Roman flips Harper out of it, hits them both with Superman Punches and tags Ambrose. They set-up Wyatt and hit with a Doomsday Device, Dean covering and Harper breaks it up at 2.

He looks for a powerbomb on Ambrose, Reigns thwarts it with a Superman Punch, then they plant him with a double powerbomb. The New Face Of Fear is back to his feet, has Dean in Sister Abigail, The Lunatic Fringe slips out and spikes him with Dirty Deeds. He doesn’t cover and instead tags Roman, he measures for the Spear and hits it, hooks the leg and gets the 1-2-3.
Winners: Dean Ambrose & Roman Reigns (Reigns/Spear)

  • EA’s Take: A really exciting start to this contest, as the match brokedown early with the brawling on the outside. The finish left a little to be desired however, if this is feud is going to continue then something will certainly have to be added. Perhaps Erick Rowan is close to returning? By all accounts he was to miss at least 4 months with a torn biceps, I believe it’s only been about 2.

Match #7 is Title vs. Title, Winner Take All: WWE United States Champion John Cena vs. WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins
We get a stalemate off the tie-up to begin, the lock-up once more, Cena with a side headlock takedown. Seth gets to his feet, sends Cena into the ropes, leapfrogs over and hits a hiptoss, following with a dropkick. Rollins mocks John, Cena firing back with a big right hand, then goes back to the side headlock. The Architect to a vertical base again, Cena turning it into a side belly to belly suplex for a quick 1, then into a rear chinlock. Seth battles to his feet, Cena reverses a whip into the corner, charges in and Rollins side-steps it.

He comes off the 2nd rope with a blockbuster, dumps Cena to the floor with a knee to the back, then hits two consecutive suicide dives, slides back inside and connects with a somersault plancha to the floor. Seth slides Cena back in the ring, Cena ducks a right hand, hitting the ropes for multiple shoulder tackles. Rollins avoids the slam, plants John with a Sling Blade and covers for a count of 2. The Architect rushes Cena in the corner, gets flipped to the apron, but lands on his feet. He springboards in for a knee, Cena catches the leg and tries the STF, but Seth gets the to the bottom rope. John yanks Rollins to his feet, slams him and goes for the 5 Knuckle Shuffle.

Seth springs up, attempting a Pedigree and Cena counters out of it, springboarding off the 2nd rope with a stunner. John drops the 5 Knuckle Shuffle, wants to finish with the AA and Seth fights it off. He comes off the top with double knees, hits a standing shooting star, but only gets a 2 count. The Architect lands a running forearm in the corner, props Cena backwards on the top turnbuckle and climbs up. Cena connects with back elbows to battle out, Rollins comes right back with right hands of his own, then hits a double stomp as Cena is caught in the tree of woe for a near fall.

Rollins has some words for the referee, trash talks Cena and John pops to his feet, delivering an Attitude Adjustment, but can’t get the 3 count. The two champions exchange right hands in the center of the ring, Rollins tries a Pedigree again, Cena with a double leg takedown, catapulting Seth to the corner. Rollins lands on the 2nd rope, John hoists him on his shoulders and plants Seth with an electric chair drop for another 2 count. Cena ascends to the top rope and connects with the leg drop, the WWE Champion again kicking out at 2. Cena sets The Architect on the top for an AA off the 2nd rope, Rollins sunset flips out of it, driving John into the corner with a Turnbuckle Powerbomb.

Seth to the top now, landing a frog splash, Cena kicking out at 2 and powering Rollins to his shoulders for the AA. Seth lands on his feet, into the ropes they go and John with a crossbody, this time Seth rolls through and he plants Cena with an Attitude Adjustment for a near fall. The Architect heads upstairs once more for a Phoenix splash, Cena rolls out of the way as Seth lands on his feet, John catches him running in with a drop toe hold, grabbing Rollins in the STF. Seth reaches the bottom rope for a break, Cena goes for another AA, Rollins avoids it and looks for the Pedigree, John with a double leg takedown and he locks in the Figure Four.

Seth is able to reverse the pressure, Cena making it to the ropes to force the break. John rolls to the apron, delivering right hands and climbing to the top. Rollins pops to his feet, scaling the corner and hitting a superplex, then rolling into a sit-out suplex for a count of 2. He heads upstairs, missing the Phoenix splash again, Cena gets him up for an AA and the referee gets inadvertently knocked down and John hits it and covers. The ref falls to the floor, Cena drags Seth up and Rollins connects with a knee to the face. Jon Stewart hits the ring with a steel chair, acts like he’s going to drill Rollins with it, but instead hits Cena. Seth Pedigrees Cena on the chair, the ref rolls back inside and makes the 3 count.
Winner and NEW WWE United States Champion: Seth Rollins (Outside Interference)

  • EA’s Take: Although Jon Stewart was supposed to make it look like he was going hit Rollins and did a poor job of it, still a shocker to see him help Seth win. I didn’t expect a clear winner in this and certainly didn’t think either man would walk away with both titles. I’m not sure what this means for the US Championship moving forward, but it was a great matchup. Rollins pulled everything out of the arsenal tonight and say what you want about John Cena and his botched Springboard Stunner, but he always elevates himself to the level of his opponent.

Match #8 is an Elimination Match: Team Bella (WWE Divas Champion Nikki Bella, Brie Bella & Alicia Fox) vs. Team B.A.D. (Naomi, Tamina & Sasha Banks) vs. Team PCB (Paige, Charlotte & Becky Lynch)
Brie will begin with Becky, Brie backing Becky into the corner off the lock-up and driving her head into the turnbuckle. Lynch pushes her off, then catches her running in with armdrags and a dropkick. Brie side-steps a charging Lynch, dropping her on the 2nd rope and landing a running knee. Tamina tags herself in, lays Brie out with a dropkick then drills Becky with a headbutt. Sasha off the tag with a seated senton to the midsection, Naomi tags and does the same, then Tamina back in and she slams Becky.

Sasha re-enters with a kick, Naomi back in following with another seated senton, then drops a leg for a count of 2. Banks into the match, Becky counters a back suplex into a roll-up for 1, The Boss preventing Becky from tagging and bringing in Tamina for a big clothesline and a 2 count. She lays Lynch out with a straight right hand, then Becky falls to the floor off another. Tamina drives her back-first into the apron, Charlotte around ringside and she spears Tamina on the floor. Sasha & Naomi hit the ropes, taking out Charlotte & Becky with synchronized somersault planchas.

Brie & Nikki hit the ring, diving outside and taking out Naomi & Sasha. Alicia heads to the top, gets met by Paige and she knocks Foxy to the floor, then takes out everyone with a somersault senton out to the floor. Becky & Tamina make their way back in, Tamina looks for a Samoan Drop, Lynch slides out and Brie makes a blind tag. She plants Tamina with a 2nd rope Bella Buster and covers for a 3 count. Team B.A.D. has been eliminated. The champion tags in, Becky ducks a forearm shot, but gets caught in the Rack Attack, Paige & Charlotte saving the match after a 2 count.

Paige tags in, taking down Nikki with a Thesz Press, then landing multiple knees to the face in the corner. She plants Nikki with a fallaway slam, the champion rolling to the outside, Paige tries a baseball slide and gets caught, Nikki hitting her with an Alabama Slam on the floor. The champ rolls back in the ring for some push-ups, taunting Charlotte on the apron. Paige beats the count at 9, Nikki with a slam and she covers for 2. Brie tags in, The Bellas with a double flapjack and Paige is out again after 2. Brie posts the knee to the spine, wrenching back on the head, The Anti-Diva fights to her feet, hits the ropes and meets a clothesline for a near fall.

Brie with kicks a la her husband Daniel Bryan, misses one to the head and Paige with a school boy for a quick 2 count. Brie quickly pulls her to the mat by the hair, Alicia with a northern lights suplex off the tag, but only gets 2. Foxy posts the knee in the spine and wrenches back on the arms this time, Paige to a vertical base, flips Alicia out and walks into a dropkick. The champion back into the contest with a snap suplex for a count of 2, then a quick tag back to Alicia for a double suplex and another 2.

Fox chokes Paige using the bottom rope, sends her into the corenr and Paige fights her way out, catching Alicia with a knee to the face, then a slap to make the tag to Charlotte. She serves Alicia a plate of chops, lands a modified neckbreaker and takes The Bellas off the apron. Charlotte with a spear to Alicia, grabs her in the Figure 8 and Nikki is in to break it up. Paige tackles Nikki out of the ring, Charlotte and Alicia both hit one another with big boots.

They crawl to tags as Brie & Becky come in, exchanging right hands, Lynch charges into double boots in the corner, Brie to the top and she misses with a missile dropkick. Lynch capitalizes, planting Brie with a pumphandle slam and she picks up the count of 3.
Winners: Team PCB (Becky/Pumphandle Slam)

  • EA’s Take: Now don’t get me wrong, this was by no means what I would classify as a bad match. Following the effort we got from Bayley & Sasha Banks last night though, this match was going to be a disappointment no matter what. Too many different Divas involved in one contest in order for it to be a show stealer and it’s placement right after the Rollins/Cena showdown certainly didn’t help. We need to get away from the Divas factions before the ‘Revolution’ can really take hold.

24 Years Of The Viper: Randy Orton Hits 24 Years In WWE

Chris King takes a look back at some of the most iconic feuds of Randy Orton and his 24 years in WWE.

Published

on

Randy Orton The Viper 24 Years in WWE

Chris King takes a look back at some of the most iconic feuds of Randy Orton and his 24 years in WWE.

Twenty-four years ago, Randy Orton made his debut on the April 25th episode of Friday Night SmackDown against the veteran Hardcore Holly. ‘The Viper’ has had a decorated career in WWE: grand slam champion, a fourteen-time world champion, two-time Royal Rumble winner, former Money in the Bank, and multi-time tag team champion. Here are some of Orton’s most iconic feuds in WWE.

Randy Orton vs. Mick Foley

The ‘Legend Killer’ was so disrespectful to Mick Foley by verbally abusing him and spitting at him. Foley retired in 2093 but made his shocking return at the 2004 Royal Rumble, eliminating Orton. The two superstars would begin a heated rivalry at WrestleMania XX, where Evolution (Randy Orton, Batista, and Ric Flair) would face off in a six-man tag team match against The Rock and Mick Foley. Orton’s victory would continue his ascension through the WWE, but it also continued his feud with Foley. Foley would take Orton to hell with him at the 2004 Backlash PLE.

Both superstars would have a No Holds Barred Falls Count Anywhere match, which Orton himself considers one of his favorite matches of his career.

The legend helped solidify Orton as a top heel in the company, where people had some misconceptions that a pretty boy couldn’t get hardcore and messy against the hardcore legend. Without their iconic feud, perhaps Orton’s greatest achievement may not have happened.

Randy Orton vs. Triple H

Evolution’s leader Triple H had been telling Orton that he was the diamond in the group. Orton was so appreciative of his mentor’s support as he challenged Chris Benoit at the 2004 SummerSlam PLE. Orton would shock the world by becoming the youngest world champion in WWE history. The very next night after a successful defense, Evolution came out to celebrate with him. With Orton on Batista’s shoulders, his world turned upside down with the iconic “thumbs down” moment. HHH went from friend to rival in seconds, bloodying up his protege out of pure jealousy and rage. The two would have a mini feud where HHH would take the world title away from Orton.

The rivalry was restarted after ‘The Viper’ hit Vince McMahon (HHH’s father-in-law) with a vicious punt kick after he was about to fire him. Orton, along with his two Legacy stablemates Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase Jr., made it his life’s mission to destroy the McMahons, including

Shane McMahon and HHH’s wife Stephanie McMahon. The Viper blamed IED for his actions, but in reality it was Orton getting his ultimate revenge against his former mentor when he was viciously kicked out of Evolution.

Randy Orton vs. The Undertaker

In 2005, The Legend Killer was looking to do the impossible when he challenged The Undertaker to a match at WrestleMania 21. Orton was young and arrogant and was trying to do everything to break his rival’s undefeated streak at WrestleMania, but The Phenom got the job done. During the match, Orton’s father Bob Orton Jr. tried to help his son win. At SummerSlam, Orton and Undertaker would do battle again; this time, Orton’s dad would be disguised as a fan, and The Legend Killer would get the victory.

At No Mercy, both Ortons would face Undertaker in a casket match. Orton won the contest, and as his rival lay in the casket, they lit it on fire.

A few months later, The Deadman would make his shocking return at the 2005 Survivor Series PLE after Orton was named the sole survivor for his team. Taker rising through the fire and kicking the casket open was one of the coolest moments in WWE history. Orton thought he had the last laugh, but in true Taker fashion, he challenged him to a Hell in the Cell match. Orton with nowhere to hide inside the demonic structure, as The Phenom finally got his revenge.

Randy Orton vs. John Cena

This rivalry was the next generation’s Stone Cold vs. The Rock because it spans throughout the years. Orton vs. Cena was simply both GOATs trying to prove who was at the very top in the company. This storied rivalry began in 2007, when Cena was the WWE Champion and Orton was challenging him at SummerSlam. Cena would retain it, and The Viper struck back, delivering a vicious punt kick to Cena’s father, who was at ringside. They would feud for a few months until Cena got injured and needed surgery.

All throughout 2008, both rivals would go their separate ways until the following year. After Orton’s vengeance was successful at the 2009 Backlash with winning the WWE Championship, his and Cena’s rivalry was restarted. They competed in a series of matches throughout the summer. Their iconic I Quit Match, a 60-minute Ironman Match, will go down in history as one of the greatest of all time. Cena would finally get his comeuppance inside Hell in the Cell by winning the WWE Championship. This would put a pause on their rivalry.

Both superstars would find their way back to each other in 2014, when Orton won the WWE Championship after cashing in his MITB briefcase on Daniel Bryan. The Viper was the focal point of The Authority (Triple H, Randy Orton, and Stephanie McMahon), and Cena once again was the thorn in his side. Cena had won the World Heavyweight Championship, and this was building to a huge title unification ladder match. Both superstars would utilize everything in their arsenal, but Orton handcuffed his rival’s hand to the ring ropes. Cena went crashing through the table, and The Viper claimed both titles.

In 2025, Cena would do the unthinkable and turn heel, which shocked the world. Mr. ‘Never Give Up’ actually gave up on his fans and verbally attacked everyone for wanting to be like him. While the self-proclaimed GOAT was gloating about defeating Cody Rhodes to become a seventeen-time WWE champion, an old rival snuck up behind him and gave him an RKO! The two longtime rivals would face off one final time at Backlash inside Orton’s hometown. Their match wasn’t incredible because Cena was still trying to find his footing as a top heel. Cena would retain the title, and sadly, this is how one of the greatest rivalries in WWE history ended.

Chris King Looks Back: WWE WrestleMania 36

Chris King takes a look back at one of the most surreal wrestling events of all time, 2020’s WWE WrestleMania 36!

Published

on

WWE WrestleMania 36 Drew McIntyre Brock Lesnar

Chris King takes a look back at one of the most surreal wrestling events of all time, 2020’s WWE WrestleMania 36!

As we get geared up for WrestleMania 42, one of my favorite things to do is go back and watch previous Manias and find that special magic again. Six years ago, we were living in a worldwide pandemic and nothing felt the same.  WrestleMania 36 was supposed to be held in Tampa Bay but, unfortunately it took place inside of the Performance Center.

For the first time in WWE history, WrestleMania was split into two nights, which would become a constant going forward. Each night would feature a plethora of matches including Goldberg vs. Braun Strowman for the Universal Championship, Seth Rollins vs. Kevin Owens, AJ Styles vs. The Undertaker in a Boneyard Match, and Brock Lesnar vs. Drew McIntyre for the WWE Championship.

On Night one, one of the greatest bouts with an incredible build would be ‘The Messiah’ Seth Rollins vs. Kevin Owens. Rollins had been fighting for the greater good flanked by The Authors of Pain and Buddy Matthews and blatantly destroying Owens on multiple occasions. Rollins portrayed the perfect manipulating heel here.

The resilient ‘Prizefighter’ was so sick of Rollins’ crap that he challenged him to a match at Mania. What started as a simple match, quickly turned into an all out brawl with no disqualifications. Both superstars fought all over the ringside area, and KO would climb off the huge WrestleMania sign and hit a massive elbow drop! Owens would pick up the huge victory over The Messiah.

Braun Strowman would challenge Goldberg for the Universal Championship in what was relatively a squash match. Roman Reigns was supposed to challenge Goldberg, butdue to health concerns, he took a hiatus from WWE. ‘The Monster Among Men’ would take four massive Spears from the veteran and retaliate with four running power slams to win his first Universal Championship!

The main event of night one saw The Undertaker battle AJ Styles in a really fun and chaotic boneyard match. This dream match was supposed to take place in front of 75,000 screaming fans but, this was truly the perfect ending to Taker’s illustrious career. Styles had some massive balls calling out his opponent by calling him by his official name and disrespecting his family. ‘The Phenomenal One’ just kept poking the bear all the way into their match. Watching Styles arrive in Undertaker fashion inside of a coffin and give a maniacal laugh was hilarious. All the games were over after Taker rode in on his motorcycle to beat his ass!

The Deadman would have to face off against The OC, and even his druids to shut his opponent up once and for all. Taker delivering a massive chokeslam and tombstone piledriver on the roof was a sight to see. Taker kicked Styles right into his own grave and rode off into the darkness, as usual! The Undertaker cross symbol blaring through the fire while Metallica plays was iconic! Taker would be so satisfied with the cinematic match that he would formally retire later that year!

Night Two of WrestleMania 36 was awesome and electric, as Edge faced off with his greatest former friend now rival Randy Orton in a last man standing match, John Cena faced off with ‘The Fiend’ Bray Wyatt inside the Firefly Funhouse, and Drew McIntyre looks to win his first-every WWE championship from ‘The Beast Incarnate’ Brock Lesnar!

Edge made his shocking return at the 2020 Royal Rumble, after a career-ending neck injury. Randy Orton was excited to see his former Rated-RKO partner but he quickly put a stop to a reunion in a disgusting manner. Orton delivering a vicious Concerto to Edge and hitting an RKO on Beth Phoenix brought back flashbacks to ‘09 Orton and his feud with Triple H!

‘The Viper’ came out of nowhere disguised as a cameraman to hit an RKO to start the match. Orton was a mastermind here playing the sinister antagonist to Edge’s comeback story. Both superstars went to war throughout the performance center in a hard-hitting performance. Orton choking out Edge while saying “I’ll always love you, man” was just vile and really fun to watch. Edge finally got the advantage in the gym area using the machines to gain some revenge.

They fought through the backstage areas, a boardroom all the way to the top of an NXT production truck. Orton hitting his signature draping DDT on the bed of a pickup truck was nasty. The Viper tried to Punt Edge’s lights out but, got hit with a massive spear. Edge got the final shot hitting Orton with a devastating Concerto to win the match!

John Cena entered The Firefly Funhouse for one of most spectacular cinematic masterpieces of all time. This match was a cinematic journey of John Cena’s history within the company, and looking back at his greatest failures. It was so interesting to see how his future could have been way different had he turned heel, instead of maintaining being a babyface who was shoved down our throats for years! Bray Wyatt as ‘The Fiend’ finally got his comeuppance after Cena refused to put him over at Mania 30.

Wyatt was red-hot at that time but, Cena gave him his greatest defeat of his career. The Fiend may not have been created if it wasn’t for this loss on the grandest stage of them all. Wyatt would defeat Cena and go on to become the Universal Champion months later.

The final match of the grand event was Drew McIntyre defeating Brock Lesnar to win his first WWE Championship. After Lesnar’s impressive performance at the Royal Rumble, McIntyre humiliated him by eliminating him and punching his ticket to the biggest match of his career. The way WWE hyped McIntyre is very similar to how they are hyping Oba Femi right now. They made him look like an unstoppable beast.

The match started with a free trip to Suplex City followed by a F5 for a kickout at one! Lesnar’s eyes grew wide as his opponent kept coming back. ‘The Scottish Warrior’ would not stay down and, The Beast was getting pissed. McIntyre would ultimately slay the beast hitting four massive Claymore kicks to win his first WWE Championship! Paul Heyman has a look of shock and disappointment as McIntyre poses with his title. What a way to end WrestleMania 36!
