8. Winning King of the Ring

Looking at the mid card of 2000 there were any number of people who could have won King of the Ring. You had the likes of Chris Jericho, Chris Benoit and Eddie Gurreuo in this tournament but in the end Angle came out on top defeating Rikishi in the finals.

Angle had been booked very strong before this going on an undefeated streak as well as winning the IC and European titles. Winning the King of the Ring was a sign that Angle was potentially being positioned as Main event title contender.

7. His first WWE title

Kurt Angle rounded off his first year in the company by defeating The Rock for the WWE Championship. Unfortunately, he fell into the same pit fall many first-time champions fall into. For much of his reign he wasn’t made to look strong and despite being the champion it was clear he wasn’t the top guy. He barely got any offence in the Armageddon Hell in a Cell and looked like he escaped with the belt by the skin of his teeth.

He lost the title the month before Mania X7 making him seem more like a transitional champion than anything else. Thankfully this wouldn’t be his only reign with the belt as he would go on to hold it 3 more times.

6. Having his head shaved

When you think of Kurt Angle one of the most recognisable features is the fact that he is bald. He didn’t come into the company bald that would happen as a result of losing a hair vs hair match at Judgement day 2002 against Edge.

It was probably for the best since Angle’s air was getting pretty thin anyway so at least they were able to make a fun angle out of it. For a few weeks he would wear a ridiculous wig insisting that he still had hair.

This feud was also what spawned the You Suck chants that would stick with him to this day.
