Freshly Squeezed put Death Triangle on notice last week in anticipation of the coming AEW World Tag Team Championship match. But will Cassidy be able to calm down and focus on the Southern Savior first?

Skyler keeps Cassidy from putting his hands in his pockets, and says if this is a wrestling show, they should wrestle! Cassidy wants to bring his hands into his pockets again, but Skyler pushes them away. Skyler wants Cassidy to tie up with him! Cassidy puts the elbow pad on, circles with Skyler, and fans rally for Cassidy. Cassidy then dodges Skyler, to bring his hands up, but Skyler kicks low! Skyler grins, throws an uppercut but Cassidy dodges! Skyler kicks low again, but again Cassidy dodges his uppercut! Skyler kicks low again, but Cassidy backslides, TWO!

Cassidy gets a waistlock, flying mare, then a chinlock with a thumbs up. Skyler goes after the hand but into a ghost in, TWO! Things speed up, Cassidy table tops Skyler and kips up! AEW’s Rising Star of the week: Shawn Dean!

The Captain was found by The Elite in South Honor Wrestling. He didn’t know how long it would take, but he knew he’d be “one of those guys.” Dean joined the Navy right out of high school, following the tragedy of 9/11/2001. He felt he had to do what he could and spent a few years. That is where he grew up, learning honor, courage and commitment. Taking those values and being dedicated to the process helped him fight until he saw things through. After leaving military, he went to college to try football. He played Arena Football, but still wanted to do more.

Dean started wrestling at 29, locally in Chicago, but he got trained down in Atlanta. He left family behind so that he could provide for them. When it was all said and done, he had only $20 to his name. He thought this was it, but he wasn’t going to quit. He wanted to prove he belonged. He hit his stride, got his bookings, and then the pandemic hit. It felt like the dream was taken away.

But then, a year later, he got a tweet from Tony Khan that read, “Thank you for your service to the USA, and thank you for everything you’ve done for AEW to help us thrive through the pandemic. Your consistent hard work, positivity and reliability have made you so valuable to AEW. Now it’s my honor to officially welcome you aboard!” The Captain was finally #AllElite! Dean had just gotten fired from his other job for going to AEW before. Dean knew that was not what he was meant to do, and for that tweet to show up later meant the world to him. It was vindication for being a hard worker and a good person his whole life. The journey doesn’t stop here, it only begins!

Skye chases Britt to ropes but Britt bails out. Rebel checks on her, Britt composes herself but Skye runs in, only to miss with the dropkick. QT whips Comoroto for Comoroto to whip him into corner clotheslines! QT feeds Palace to Comoroto’s BIG sidewalk slam! Cover, TWO! Comoroto CLUBS Palace, whips him hard into a corner and Palace bounces off buckles! Comoroto drags Palace up, tags QT in and they mug Palace. QT scoops and SLAMS Palace, then drops elbow after elbow, then stands on Palace’s face!

The ref reprimands, QT drags Palace up to snapmare him and tag in Comoroto. Comoroto slingshots for an elbow drop! Solow is the only one that cheers, but Palace fights back! Nakazawa tries to take advantage but misses the elbow drop! Mike CHOPS, haymakers, but Nakazawa gets him with a PURPLE NURPLE! Mike breaks free, but Nakazawa just PURPLE NURPLES the other nipple!! Nakazawa headlocks, grinds Mike down, and Mike powers up to power out. Nakazawa runs Mike over, things speed up and Mike arm-drags Nakazawa around! Mike gets a chicken wing to a bridge, TWO! Mike stands right up to get the arm and wrenches to a cording hold.

Nakazawa whips free, Mike handsprings around to dropkick him down! Fans fire up as Mike centers himself, but runs into a boot! Omega has Nakazawa show up because even though Omega knows Japanese, he wants Nakazawa to translate for him. “From the desk of Kenny Omega, welcome to AEW! Good to see you again. So I don’t know if you’ve heard, but we’re doing a little bit of scouting in AEW. And the talents that make an impact end up on Dynamite, all thanks to yours truly.”

And Omega remembers when he was in DDT, and how he was a nobody then. Takeshita put a roof over Omega’s head, put food in his mouth, and money in his pocket, and he became the star he is today. Now, Takeshita will pay Omega back. So whether Takeshita heard or not, but those Sydals keep getting on Omega’s nerves. So if Takeshita doesn’t mind, they can teach these kids a lesson! Takeshita’s answer? He understands. He will naturally help Omega and be in a team with him. No, no, he’s not teaming with Omega! He’s teaming with Nakazawa! You heard it here first, folks! The bell rings and Penta stares down with Cutler. They circle, Penta takes his glove off and tosses it to his brother. “Listen! CERO! MIEDO!” He pushes that in Cutler’s face but Cutler pushes back! They circle, tie up, and Penta waistlocks to ripcord and wrench to a wristlock. Cutler handsprings and wrenches back! Penta trips Cutler, and twists the leg! Penta isolates the other leg, ties them up and has an inverted bow ‘n’ arrow to then get a chinlock. Cutler powers out, hurdles, but Penta KICKS him while he somersaults! Penta swaggers about, runs in but Cutler dodges to ROUNDHOUSE! Cutler shoulders in, enziguris and springboards, but Penta gets under to SUPERKICK!

Penta tells Cutler again, CERO MIEDO, and runs, into a dropkick! Penta flops out of the ring, Cutler builds speed and DIVES into a GAMANGIRI! Fans fire up with Penta as he goes up top. Penta jumps but has to roll through his stomps as Cutler moves. Cutler ROUNDHOUSES Penta out of the ring, and DIVES! Direct hit this time and they go into railing! Cutler sees Pac & Fenix looming, but he still gets Penta up and into the ring. Penta mule kicks from the apron! And the goes up and around for a FLYING CANNONBALL! Fans rally, Penta reels Cutler in and tucks him in, but Cutler slips out of the package driver to waistlock! Penta switches, Cutler bucks him and springboards for a FLYING FOREARM! They’re back together but it’s like Trent never left! Cassidy and Statlander join in for a FOUR CORNERS HUG!! You GOT to give the people what they want! But will Best Friends get what they want in the form of revenge on Death Triangle? Will there be tag titles added on top after Dynamite?

My Thoughts:

A pretty good Elevation, but again my gripe is that this was SEVENTEEN MATCHES within two and a half hours. Less is more, AEW, since you’re also doing Dark classic tomorrow. Though, I will say that more of these were competitive than usual. I also like that Conti & Shida are still being friendly and a team, but I feel like things will have to get tense very soon with Double or Nothing just next month. It was good that we got to see The Factory in action, their logo looks decent and I like that QT has a recreation of the Nightmare Family/Factory logo with blue paint on it, as they did in their vignette promo to introduce the group.

As I said during Takeshita VS Limelight, that is the kind of stuff we should be getting for Elevation. If Elevation stuck to under two hours, and was maybe 10 of those matches, things would be much better overall. And Takeshita having a connection to Omega from DDT Pro is great, this could be a really good Elevation story for Omega and Nakazawa to be part of. Nakazawa & Takeshita VS The Sydals sounds really fun, should be an Elevation main event to make it important. And should Takeshita win, I would think that helps his case towards making it to Dynamite, both kayfabe and reality.

Shanna VS Leyla was another example of what Elevation should be giving us, as I definitely do sense there could be a solid feud building there. Now, claiming a show has a “quadruple main event” is too over the top, even for wrestling.  However, all those matches were solid. We got a lot of good stuff out of Best Friends and Death Triangle, especially PAC & Fenix putting on that tag squash match. Penta VS Cutler was another example of what Elevation should be, and it works well with the story that is building, as was Rosa VS Diamante. Ethan & Scorpio are a strong tag team so even though it seems rather sudden that they formed up, it’s working out to get Ethan going and keep Scorpio moving while the singles titles are rather busy right now.

Best Friends in the main event with Nemeth & Bononi was good, was definitely for the sake of getting Trent going again in a regular tag match, and for the sake of closing out the night on a good note. I probably would’ve gone with Penta VS Cutler just so the last image is Death Triangle mocking Cutler and sending a message to the Bucks before their title match on Dynamite. You gotta let that go-home math and logic play into things a little bit, and that would’ve been a good one to use.
