AEW’s Rising Star of the week: Shawn Dean!
The Captain was found by The Elite in South Honor Wrestling. He didn’t know how long it would take, but he knew he’d be “one of those guys.” Dean joined the Navy right out of high school, following the tragedy of 9/11/2001. He felt he had to do what he could and spent a few years. That is where he grew up, learning honor, courage and commitment. Taking those values and being dedicated to the process helped him fight until he saw things through. After leaving military, he went to college to try football. He played Arena Football, but still wanted to do more.
Dean started wrestling at 29, locally in Chicago, but he got trained down in Atlanta. He left family behind so that he could provide for them. When it was all said and done, he had only $20 to his name. He thought this was it, but he wasn’t going to quit. He wanted to prove he belonged. He hit his stride, got his bookings, and then the pandemic hit. It felt like the dream was taken away.
But then, a year later, he got a tweet from Tony Khan that read, “Thank you for your service to the USA, and thank you for everything you’ve done for AEW to help us thrive through the pandemic. Your consistent hard work, positivity and reliability have made you so valuable to AEW. Now it’s my honor to officially welcome you aboard!” The Captain was finally #AllElite! Dean had just gotten fired from his other job for going to AEW before. Dean knew that was not what he was meant to do, and for that tweet to show up later meant the world to him. It was vindication for being a hard worker and a good person his whole life. The journey doesn’t stop here, it only begins!

All Ego says they requested this time “to air some grievances, which we’ve been doing quite a lot lately.” But specifically, their opponents tonight, First, Joey Janela. For not having the best singles record, they’ve given Janela TNT Championship opportunities. And yet Scorpio had to earn his shot, in a grueling ladder match that Ethan was even part of! And yet, here Ethan is, too! Amazing singles records, but where is Ethan’s shot? Backstage interview with Konosuke Takeshita.
Alex Marvez congratulates him on his win and wants to ask why he’s here, but Omega interrupts because of how Marvez more or less butchered Takeshita’s name. Omega takes over the interview since he speaks Japanese. NOW, Marvez. Omega has Nakazawa show up because even though Omega knows Japanese, he wants Nakazawa to translate for him. “From the desk of Kenny Omega, welcome to AEW! Good to see you again. So I don’t know if you’ve heard, but we’re doing a little bit of scouting in AEW. And the talents that make an impact end up on Dynamite, all thanks to yours truly.”
And Omega remembers when he was in DDT, and how he was a nobody then. Takeshita put a roof over Omega’s head, put food in his mouth, and money in his pocket, and he became the star he is today. Now, Takeshita will pay Omega back. So whether Takeshita heard or not, but those Sydals keep getting on Omega’s nerves. So if Takeshita doesn’t mind, they can teach these kids a lesson! My Thoughts:
A pretty good Elevation, but again my gripe is that this was SEVENTEEN MATCHES within two and a half hours. Less is more, AEW, since you’re also doing Dark classic tomorrow. Though, I will say that more of these were competitive than usual. I also like that Conti & Shida are still being friendly and a team, but I feel like things will have to get tense very soon with Double or Nothing just next month. It was good that we got to see The Factory in action, their logo looks decent and I like that QT has a recreation of the Nightmare Family/Factory logo with blue paint on it, as they did in their vignette promo to introduce the group.
As I said during Takeshita VS Limelight, that is the kind of stuff we should be getting for Elevation. If Elevation stuck to under two hours, and was maybe 10 of those matches, things would be much better overall. And Takeshita having a connection to Omega from DDT Pro is great, this could be a really good Elevation story for Omega and Nakazawa to be part of. Nakazawa & Takeshita VS The Sydals sounds really fun, should be an Elevation main event to make it important. And should Takeshita win, I would think that helps his case towards making it to Dynamite, both kayfabe and reality.
Shanna VS Leyla was another example of what Elevation should be giving us, as I definitely do sense there could be a solid feud building there. Now, claiming a show has a “quadruple main event” is too over the top, even for wrestling. However, all those matches were solid. We got a lot of good stuff out of Best Friends and Death Triangle, especially PAC & Fenix putting on that tag squash match. Penta VS Cutler was another example of what Elevation should be, and it works well with the story that is building, as was Rosa VS Diamante. Ethan & Scorpio are a strong tag team so even though it seems rather sudden that they formed up, it’s working out to get Ethan going and keep Scorpio moving while the singles titles are rather busy right now.
Best Friends in the main event with Nemeth & Bononi was good, was definitely for the sake of getting Trent going again in a regular tag match, and for the sake of closing out the night on a good note. I probably would’ve gone with Penta VS Cutler just so the last image is Death Triangle mocking Cutler and sending a message to the Bucks before their title match on Dynamite. You gotta let that go-home math and logic play into things a little bit, and that would’ve been a good one to use.
My Score: 8.2/10

Schiavone welcomes out the Blue League’s current points leader, Kyle Fletcher, and of course… Don Callis. But they’re not alone as the rest of the Don Callis Family makes their way out to the ring. Wait, shouldn’t Brian Cage be in New York for Final Battle…? Well anyway, Schiavone says there’s a lot of gold and- Callis takes the mic, and he says, “I have something important to say.” The fans boo and Schiavone excuses himself as Callis says the Don Callis Family are the TRUE One Percenters of professional wrestling! They prove it each and every day!
Murder Machines: The most feared tag team in the world! “Don Callis’ favorite wrestler,” Kyle Fletcher, shows every day why he is THE One Percent! He beat Will Ospreay! He beat Kazuchika Okada! And now, he’s gonna beat Daniel Garcia and win the Continental Classic! Callis hands the mic over to Kyle and Kyle says it might be true that last Saturday wasn’t the best day for Kyle, but anyone watching that match saw the clear bias from the officials in this company! The fans boo as Kyle claims there is an agenda in AEW to see the Don Callis Family NOT succeed. But it doesn’t matter, it changes nothing!

They are not like all of these fans! They are not like “the boys in the back,” like Mark Davis & Will Hobbs, “a couple of scab workers!” They’re not even in the same business, Hobbs!
And Callis has waited to get Hobbs on a PPV so that the world could watch why they call Konosuke Takeshita “The Alpha.” And Hobbs, YOU are not in the same business as Konosuke, and you find that out at Worlds End! If it wasn’t clear before, this was a painful punctuation mark, Komander is mathematically ELIMINATED from the semifinals. However, Komander’s final C2 match is Dynamite’s Miracle on 34th Street against Claudio Castagnoli! Can Komander be the biggest spoiler of this entire tournament? Can Brody prove to everyone in the Gold League that the House Always Wins?
My Thoughts:
A great Rampage here for Holiday Bash, though some clear redundancies from last week’s Winter is Coming edition. We got another group Don Callis Promo, and we barely got anything different from Callis and Kyle. The tag match’s only changes were Cage switching in for Archer, even though Cage is in reality defending his ROH World TV Championship in the Hammerstein Ballroom for Final Battle, and then the Callis Family wins this time so Hobbs and Konosuke can be even going towards Worlds End. Now, Konosuke could very well retain the International Championship at Worlds End because NJPW is totally open to Konosuke Takeshita VS Shingo Takagi being Winner Takes All, AEW International and NEVER Openweight titles on the line together.
Lio & Action of course won their match, but the real purpose was to get a confrontation out of them, Private Party and OG Top Flight, Darius & Dante. Good stuff, and it teases anywhere between a Triple Threat to Lio & Action VS Darius & Dante Round 2. Very good promo from Triple J to set up for something, anything really, for 2025. Fight for the Fallen can even be the start of whatever that plan is as part of the “mother of all streams.” And good stuff with the women’s division tonight. Ford & Harley makes a natural duo now given their names, and Willow and Kris could possibly reunite now that Kris is a Face again. That wouldn’t really make up for the weird fumble in the middle where Tony Khan just wanted Kris to get away from Stokely, but hey, this story itself could be really well done.
And great stuff out of Brody VS Komander, really got the drama going before the end. I mean, we all knew Komander was out of the running before tonight, and was most certainly taking the loss here, but Komander got to really show some grit. And now, five people at 6 points going into the final round, they’re really adding great drama to Gold League. Collision tomorrow and then Dynamite Miracle on 34th Street will be some great stuff, but I still think Ospreay should be one of the semifinalists, the second spot can be whoever they want.
My Score: 8.8/10
