Talking SmackAfee 3: The Third One!
One last time in the ThunderDome, it is Talking Smack!
Before getting back on the road, Talking Smack has one more night in the ThunderDome! And it’ll be rockin’ ‘n’ rollin’ with Rick Boogs & Shinsuke Nakamura!
Kayla Braxton welcomes us back to the show!
A bittersweet moment here, as we are saying good-bye to Talking Smack, but saying hello to being on the road! But she and Pat are back, and obviously Pat being “birthed” in the ThunderDome, he is sentimental about leaving, but they’ll be in Houston next Friday, Fort Worth that Sunday, and going on and on after that in the 25 city tour! It’ll be amazing, especially when they go to Madison Square Garden, get those tickets now. He has had a great time being here on Talking Smack, and Kayla says he’s done a great job. Obviously, once again, Paul Heyman is busy with what happened from SmackDown and to Roman Reigns and the Usos.
They’ll get to that, but first, how are Pat’s feet? We all saw Pat join Big E in a little foot spa time while watching Corbin VS Nakamura. Pat didn’t expect to get catered and his feet “pedied” as they say. But when Big E wants you to join him on the “chatting couch” and there are electric powered foot bath things, you take him up on the offer. His feet feel good, he almost died out there, but it was an electrifying SmackDown! Yes, and Pat earned that special treatment. A lot went down, and Edge is focused and ready, planning to take the title from Roman Reigns.
But we also saw the returns of the SmackDown Tag Team Champions, Rey & Dominik Mysterio, and they put a whooping on those A Double S’s. Oh, L O L, Kayla! Yes, Edge came back, blew up the family, called out the Head of the Table, comes out and just starts throwing hands. Edge is super focused, especially given what happened at WrestleMania 37, being stacked on Daniel Bryan. But we also got the Mysterios, who last time we saw each of them, Dominik was getting tossed two blocks away. The tag champs attacked the Usos, and all hell broke loose! A two-for-one 619 on the Usos, the fight continued, Edge hit that Spear on Jey, and things just got worse and worse for them.
Kayla asks if Pat wants to hear some breaking news. What is it? Talking Smack exclusive including these six. Next Friday, there will be a SIX MAN TAG MATCH between Roman & The Usos VS Edge & The Mysterios! Well okay then! It evened out there when the Mysterios returned bringing some chairs. Now we’ll see if Roman’s family, where there’s still some stuff, if they can work against Edge and the Mysterios. This is very good news, Kayla. Thanks! Also, we saw some surprise debuts on SmackDown with Shotzi Blackheart & Tegan Nox defeating the WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions, Natalya & Tamina! Plus, what an entrance with Shotzi’s tank.
Pat says as soon as he saw TCB again, he knew it was Shotzi. Tegan was with her, and by the way, the tank can shoot! Nerf missile headhunting! Tamina didn’t flinch but she almost got hit! That actually should be noted, too. Tamina stared Shotzi down, shrugged off the Nerf, she’s tough as nails. But Shotzi and Tegan had innovative offense, they get the big upset win. Congratulations to them! And congratulations in order for Nakamura, not just for his win tonight, but also riding in style in a very familiar looking car. It looks a lot like Baron Corbin’s G Wagon from last week that got repo’d. But Kayla knows Pat will want his dance moves ready, Boogs and Nakamura are heading this way, after the break!
KING Nakamura and Rick Boogs join Talking Smack!
The rockin’ bard plays Nakamura’s theme as Nakamura struts his way to the table. Pat jams out and says, “The king is here!” Pat loses his mind every time and it is an honor to have them here. Kayla thanks Boogs and Boogs shreds even more. Is this the greatest live performance ever right here? YEAH~! The mic works, that’s good. But that guitar, wow. The guitar deserves a crown of its own. Pat can’t be sure, is Boogs channeling Clapton or Hendrix? Just who is Boogs? He is certainly the greatest guitarist alive. Boogs says the fun of this is that he’s discovering himself, too. Right here, right now, thanks to the tutelage of KING Nakamura! Boogs has decided to be his court jester, if you will.
So the jokes, the entertainment, even the music and the shreds. They have great chemistry, too. Nakamura has waited for this Money in the Bank opportunity for a long time. How good does it feel to have gotten it while shutting up Corbin? Oh, well, four years ago, Corbin won the MITB and Nakamura was there, but this time Nakamura is king. Question for the king: when he earned the crown, clearly Nakamura’s brain is bigger than Corbin’s, so did he need the crown reshaped? It sure looks perfect on Nakamura’s head. Pat’s never seen anything fit better than that. PB & J, peas ‘n’ carrots, Nakamura & the crown. And bacon, right? Bacon with anything. Nakamura says he hides some bacon in this gap here.
Pat imagines what it’ll be like when Nakamura has crown and briefcase. Who’s laughing now? Boogs is excited to see that. Kayla is curious, though. They rolled up in a new vehicle that looks a lot like Baron Corbin’s G Wagon. Was it, though? They don’t really know, they got it from an auction. Boogs hears this is a quarter million dollar vehicle, but they got it for pennies! Kayla asks if there was anything inside. She heard there was some gross food stuffs left behind. Well, someone took care of that, and then they took care of the DMV stuff, like registration and licenses.
Was there a depression in the glove compartment? Yeah, crusty Kleenex with tears and snot. Then fast food wrappers and water bottles. Whoever owned this before them was a nasty, filthy man. Well, hopefully they know they’ve all but broken Corbin. Well, Corbin had it coming. Pat wonders if that handshake is just between them or can he get in on that? Oh yeah sure! It’s just the fingers, like you’re playing strings, and then turkey gobbles. Pat puts his hand in, the fingers wiggle and they go “LELELELELELE!”
Kayla hopes they continue celebrating and keep the momentum going as next week will have a Fatal 4 Way of the four entries: Big E VS Kevin Owens VS Shinsuke Nakamura VS Seth Rollins! King Nakamura, best of luck, and go celebrate! You earned it! Nakamura is excited, but he can control himself. Boogs plays him off and Pat jams out as we go to break.
Talking Smack shares the news about Bayley.
During training, Bayley injured her knee and will be out roughly nine MONTHS. They all hope she will be alright, but our next guest is the new challenger to Bianca Belair!
Carmella joins Talking Smack!
The Most Beautiful Woman in the World is here. Mella likes that Kayla modified it, it was just in all the WWE, but she’ll take it. A lot is going on in her life. She is tired from being so beautiful, but now she is #1 contender and will be the NEW SmackDown Women’s Champion! Pat brings up that some people out there, not him but there are people, who thinks she doesn’t deserve this. What? Not only is she the most beautiful, she has more to offer than just that. The best of the best here, let’s list them. Charlotte Flair: Beat her. Asuka: Beat her. Alexa Bliss: Beat her. Who else? Sasha Banks: Beat her. Becky Lynch: Beat her! Why aren’t we talking about Mella? She is pretty and can go in the ring!
Pat says he’s not twisting things, it’s just that some people say it. Mella says the people should be excited! They’ll get to see her, a two-time women’s champion, but also she’ll become the most beautiful woman with a title! Did she expect this? Of course she did! Sonya put her in the MITB match for a reason as a two-time winner, and she put her here because she knew she deserves it! Mella was certainly going to win the Women’s MITB match anyway, but why put her through all that pain and agony? Ladder matches hurt, they suck, so why do that when she can just skip that to the title match and win? Cut corner, become champs. Work smarter, not harder.
Kayla has a question but Mella admires herself in the reflection of the table again. It is hard to see this and not say, “How you doin’?” And that’s anywhere. But as Kayla was asking, Bayley was in line for this. There’s been rumors of maybe… Well not collusion but this does seem iffy. Mella says Bayley is one of her best friends, and it is awful what happened. Mella’s heart goes out to Bayley. But Mella is grateful to be taking that match. No one knows Bianca like Bayley after all the matches they have had. Bayley knows the strengths and weaknesses, and will share that with Mella. Mella is going in so prepared that it isn’t even funny! Bianca should be scared!
Pat says Kayla said “collusion,” but this is more like “prepared.” Mella has not even a week, but Mella says she stays ready! When you are Mella, you’re always ready. Pat, stop dancing. Sorry. Again, Mella doesn’t need luck so don’t even wish it. Mella will be champion, Bianca will be crying! Pat again says “Don’t wish her luck, Kayla!” Deja vu from last week. Mella has Kayla say she’s the most beautiful woman in the world and WWE again. Pat feels this went well. Mella says his dance moves need work. Like, a lot.
Edge joins Talking Smack!
The Rated R Superstar is here, likes how orange Kayla’s outfit is. His hometown is Orangeville, so it works as a great reminder. Pat knows Orangeville created an icon, an iconoclast. He isn’t sure what that means but he will say that getting this chance to watch Edge come back and raise hell, this has been so cool. Edge has been WILD lately. Ruthless, savage times ten. Edge says he needs to dip into a different place, and he has to do that when there is a particular talent in front of him. Edge has been able to find that place, it is a difficult place, because the line between good and evil is paper thin. There’s a level of talent out there that makes him cut through the paper.
There is a side to Edge that isn’t really healthy for even Edge. He’s faced talent like The Undertaker, like John Cena, like Roman Reigns. Edge knows what Roman brings to the table, how he is as “Head of the Table,” and Edge can appreciate what Roman is trying to say. Roman believes what he says, but Edge has been there, done that. He’s had 31 total championship reigns, more than anyone ever and sorry to the 24/7 Championship but it doesn’t count. Edge has done what no one else has and there’s a reason: Edge needs to get to that place. MITB, Edge doesn’t think Roman fully comprehends what Edge is going to do.
Pat brings up WrestleMania 37, after everything that happened, Edge was gone but came back “a man possessed.” Edge has taken the family and decimated them. Feeding chairs to mouths! Did he sit there and think about this? How did this come about? Edge tries not to chew on regret. As soon as it’s done, he spits it out. This one stuck with him, though. It bothered him and he needed to change everything going on. There was doubt? No, but there was anger. He needed to manifest it in a more positive way. It took time to get there, but Edge collected himself. He hasn’t had to do that before, it was a new place to find, but he learned from it, too. Self-reflection, but not doubt.
The second you doubt yourself, you’re done. So Edge knew when he came back, he’d have to find “the guy” that would slap John Cena’s dad. That would face Taker in Hell in a Cell. Edge got slammed to hell, but he got back up. Edge had to find that guy again. He knows he’s talking in the third person, but sometimes he compartmentalizes. When Edge goes out there like that, he’s unhinged. Edge goes somewhere else. Once he goes there, it takes time to get “Adam” back.
Kayla brings up returns, how Edge had the Mysterios by his side. They all laid waste to the Bloodline, and now we have a Six Man Tag. Will next week be the final message before taking his rightful spot as Universal Champion by defeating Roman Reigns? Edge thinks that what happened was a message right there. It was intense. Rey fed Edge Usos like a buffet. How does Roman look to Edge? Flustered? Scared? Well, as confident as Roman portrays himself, he’s seen other guys do that, he knows the game. Edge can see the little gaps in the armor. Edge knows there’s doubt in there. He’s felt that doubt creep into Roman at WrestleMania with that “Glasgow Grin.” He knew, Roman knew, Roman was going to tap if not for Daniel Bryan. That is what Edge clung to.
Edge had Roman again with the Spear, Bryan pulled the ref out. Roman knows that, too. While Edge was gone, Roman is a spin doctor and spun everything. He glossed over the fact that twice, he was beat. Then there was the near ConChairTo, but Jey was there. Edge can look at that and say, “Yeah, I had you, kid.” And he can say that to Roman, and Roman knows that. With all that, Edge is in Roman’s head. Kayla wants to take a moment that Edge has sent plenty of messages to the Bloodline in the ring. But she will give him a chance to say something before Money in the Bank.
“So Roman. I didn’t just come back to do a greatest hits tour. I didn’t just come back to be happy-go-lucky. I’m not content with that. I fought back, after almost a decade. After being told I’d never do this again. After getting a triple fusion in my neck. After having my wrist fused. Having a torn Achilles, two torn pecs, metal rods in all my teeth, a fractured skull, a ruptured groin. Do you think I went through all of that, do you think I went through that, to come back and just be the happy-go-lucky guy who’s just happy to be here? I’m not. I didn’t come back to contend, I came back to be champion. To take back what I never lost. You just happened to be the champion. Wrong place, wrong time.
“At Money in the Bank, I take it back. I end this story. A decade long story, Roman. It’s gonna happen. You can look in my eyes and know, everything that I say, I absolutely believe, and that’s what scares you.” Edge sets the mic down, and Pat is in awe. Is the Rated R Superstar going to take Roman to a place no one has ever been before?
My Thoughts:
A very good Talking Smack, and definitely a strong send-off before Talking Smack is maybe live after SmackDown? I’d love if Pat stayed on, he’s been doing a great job because he has a lot of great energy with everyone. Nakamura & Boogs were really good guests again, though they did spend their segment more on taunting Corbin than anything else. Boogs’ mentality of Corbin deserving this does make sense. Corbin has been the bully but now he’s losing things left and right. Mella had a good segment but it was a lot like last week’s. Edge had a very good segment with explaining his intensity and how it’s a mental state he has to enter. His promo to close was great stuff, but there are still many ways I see him losing at MITB.

Chairshot News Report: TNA Impact Results, AEW Speculation For Ricochet & Shane McMahon, Vince McMahon, More!
Your Wrestling News for July 5, 2024, including TNA Impact, Ricochet, Shane McMahon, his daddy Vince, and more!
Your Wrestling News for July 5, 2024, including TNA Impact, Ricochet, Shane McMahon, his daddy Vince, and more!
Welcome to your daily dose of pro wrestling news–and analysis you can trust! We take all wrestling news with a grain of salt here at The Chairshot, and we hope to steer you in the right direction.
Results: TNA Impact (July 4, 2024)
Here are your results from Thursday night’s edition of TNA Impact (originally taped on June 28 at the 2300 Arena in Philly):
- Trey Miguel vs. Leon Slater ends in a no-contest after WWE NXT star Charlie Dempsey attacks everyone.
- Dani Luna battled Jody Threat to a time limit draw in the 10-Minute Challenge. They were granted the customary “5 more minutes” but were attacked by Alisha Edwards & Masha Slamovich. During the match it was revealed that Nic Nemeth had been attacked backstage.
- Frankie Kazarian defeated Mike Santana by countout to advance to the TNA World Championship Match at Slammiversary.
- Matt Hardy & Reby Hardy beat Eddie Edwards & Alisha Edwards.
- Joe Hendry pinned Jake Something to advance to the TNA World Championship Match at Slammiversary.
No surprise that Joe Hendry advanced to the world title match, but Santana-Kazarian could have gone either way. A promo video to end the show implied that Kazarian was the one who took out Nic Nemeth backstage, seemingly creating a story for them within the Slammiversary title match. No shocker that The Hardys won the tag team match, but a great surprise with Charlie Dempsey getting involved in the opener. That TNA/NXT collaboration continues to be a lot of fun.
You can catch Andrew’s Review of the event here.
Ricochet Expected To Sign With AEW
Many outlets are reporting that Ricochet’s expected landing spot remains AEW, with additional reports surfacing that his agent has been working out the details on his behalf.
Personally, I’d rather see him back in WWE. Even after an initial push in AEW, he will be a novelty act much like PAC, so I don’t see the difference. But if he’s going to AEW, here’s hoping that agent does a great job and secures quite the bag for ol’ Ric.
Vince Russo Suggests Shane McMahon As A Front Man For Vince McMahon to Purchase AEW
”We saw this with WCW, it happened before. It (purchasing AEW) could be under the guise of Shane, that’s what I’m saying. Shane is as clean as whistle. Vince could be behind it without anybody knowing it, bro.”
Those are the words of Vince Russo, who on the surface seems to be spouting nonsense. Time will tell if there is something to it all, but I wouldn’t place any wagers on this one. Shane McMahon to AEW would be an entertaining shocker, but that–like many things in AEW–would quickly wear off.
Shawn Michaels Discusses NXT Releases, Referencing Drew Gulak
During the NXT Heatwave media call, Shawn Michaels was asked about the release of Gable Steveson, but also lumped Drew Gulak in his response about main roster viability:
“From my understanding, nothing on anyone’s part other than contracts being up. Certainly, in the place of Drew Gulak. From a company standpoint, there not being anything from a main roster standpoint that they were going to be using him in. In NXT, over the last year and a half to two years, we’ve been trying to get into the process of keeping it fluid. It’s all about getting to the main roster when everything is said and done. In two or three years, if that doesn’t happen, we bring other people in or see if we’re ready to move on.”
If anything, it’s a stark reminder that NXT still exists to, above all else, populate the main roster. It’s quite the delicate balance between booking your own television show and preparing for the future, one that HBK has arguably done better than Triple H himself.
Other Odds & Ends:
- According to reports, the mini-stroke referenced by Britt Baker (DMD) on AEW Dynamite is legitimate. If so, both she and Adam Cole have been through a ton over the past 24 months.
- Mason Madden (Mace) and Mansoor, now known as the MxM Collection, showed up in ROH when featured in a vignette on this week’s broadcast. They might not have made it in WWE, but it’s good to see them getting work, and a second chance to make this gimmick their own. YEAH!
- Cody Rhodes continues to be the ultimate good dude, this time helping a fan who won tickets to Money In The Bank actually attend the event. The fan who won the tickets is in a wheelchair, and there were no more accessible seats left. That was, of course, until Cody got involved. Now the fan can be there and enjoy the show as intended when he won the contest. Cody wins again!

Did your picks win points?
The AEW Continental Classic is underway, with almost everyone competing. Check in here if you haven’t seen the winners and losers of week 1!
Here are your Gold League standings!
- Jon Moxley: 1-0, 3 points
- Swerve Strickland: 1-0, 3 points
- Jay White: 1-0, 3 points
- Rush: 0-1, 0 points
- Mark Briscoe: 0-1, 0 points.
- Jay Lethal: 0-1, 0 points
Here are your Blue League standings!
- Brody King: 1-0, 3 points
- Claudio Castagnoli: 1-0, 3 points
- Daniel Garcia: 0-1, 0 points
- Eddie Kingston: 0-1, 0 points
- Bryan Danielson: Yet to Compete
- Andrade El Idolo: Yet to Compete
My Thoughts:
Nothing too crazy, nothing too wild, this tournament only just got started. The only disappointing point is that they could not get Bryan “cleared to compete” Saturday night. Not sure how much of that is shoot given the bad eye, but this was kinda the problem of wanting him in the tournament over tons of other choices. Bryan wants to face Okada for WrestleKingdom 18, how is Bryan supposed to do that at his best if he’s also gonna be in a round robin, doing five top level matches in about as many weeks? And it takes away from Andrade being able to do something. Also a little surprised we didn’t even hear from Andrade on Saturday.
Now as we heard on Saturday, round two’s matches are set. Gold League will see Mark Briscoe VS Rush, White VS Swerve, and of course, Moxley VS Lethal. Nice variety there, a couple 0-1 guys facing off, as well as two 1-0 guys, and then 1-0 VS 0-1. No offense to Lethal, but he feels like an 0-2 going up against Moxley. Hard to call the other ones but that’s the fun of it. Meanwhile, Blue League sees Brody VS Claudio in a showdown to be 2-0, then Bryan and Andrade finally jump in, Bryan against Eddie and Andrade against Garcia. Sadly, feels like Eddie and Garcia are going 0-2, no way Tony Khan is booking Bryan and Andrade to lose their first shots.
In fact, that could be half the reason they did wait on those two, that’s almost too good for just a first round opener. But I still would’ve done it, same as NJPW does stuff like that for round robins, which this is all modeled after anyway.
