Trent Beretta w/ Kris Statlander & Orange Cassidy VS “Pretty” Peter Avalon!

NEVER Openweight Champion Trent is not after losing to the Rampaging Dragon at NJPW Lonestar Shootout, but he surely made an impression on AEW & ROH management. Will Avalon be a nice rebound for Trent here tonight?

The Code of Honor is upheld, the bell rings, and the fans rally as these two circle. They feel things out, tie up, and Avalon headlocks. Trent powers out, Avalon runs him over, then flexes. Fans are a bit torn, then Avalon runs. Trent stays low, hurdles over but Avalon pushes. Things keep moving, Avalon hurdles but now Trent runs him over! Fans fire up as Trent flexes, and Avalon gets up in a huff. Avalon shoves, Trent shoves back. They keep shoving, and then Trent CHOPS Avalon down! Fans cheer, Avalon is stinging, but Trent stands Avalon up to CHOP again! Trent CLUBS Avalon, but Avalon throat chops back!

Avalon storms up on Trent to CLAW his back! Avalon whips, Trent reverses, things speed up again, STANDING METEORA from Trent! Fans fire up while Avalon goes to the apron. Trent storms up but Avalon RAMS into him! Avalon slingshots up and over, then runs back in to POST Trent! Trent falls to the floor and Cassidy goes over to check him. Avalon waits, to then PLANCHA! Down goes Trent and fans cheer as Avalon blows them a kiss. Avalon stomps Trent, tells Cassidy to back off, then tells fans taunting him to shut their mouths. Avalon rushes Trent, but Trent back drops him! Fans fire up again while Avalon writhes.

Trent aims as Avalon slowly rises. Trent runs in, but Avalon moves and the Spear hits barriers! The ring count is past 5 of 10 and Avalon says he’s smarter than #JustTrent. Avalon puts Trent in, goes up a corner, and then leaps to AX HANDLE Trent down! Cover, TWO! Avalon clamps onto an armlock and steps over to also chinbar. Trent endures, Cassidy & Kris rally the fans, and Trent fights up. Trent throws body shots, then forearms, but Avalon ROCKS Trent! And snap suplexes! Cover, TWO! Avalon stomps Trent, mocks Trent’s looks, then throws down hands. Cover, ONE!! Trent toughs it out but Avalon drags Trent up.

Avalon goes up a corner, tells Cassidy to watch this, but Trent yanks Avalon down for a SAIDO! Fans fire up while both men are down! Cassidy & Kris pound the apron to rally the fans again, and Trent stands. Trent CHOPS Avalon, then ROCKS him! And CHOPS him! Avalon kicks low, but Trent gets around to HIGH ANGLE GERMAN SUPLEX! Trent holds on, to HIGH ANGLE GERMAN again! Fans rally, Avalon grabs ropes, and Avalon throws elbows. Trent uses that to HALF ‘N’ HALF! Fans fire up and Trent takes aim, BUSAIKU KNEE! Cover, TWO! Backstage interview with Dalton Castle.

Lexi Nair is with The Peacock and brings up tonight’s main event for the ROH World Championship. Castle asks if there’s a question or if Lexi’s stating facts. F-Facts… Yeah, and that’s gonna keep the people watching. Look at Castle. Look how calm he is. Castle’s had a lot of things going on that kept his heart racing, but he has never been more confident in his life tonight. Y’know why? Because he’s better than Eddie Kingston. Castle has watched Eddie a number of times. For years, actually. They’ve known each other probably almost 15 years, and one thing has been consistent: Eddie is heavy footed, “clomps around the ring like a big dumbo.”

Castle meanwhile is lightning quick, light on his feet, and honestly, there’s nothing stopping him. He’s climbed the mountain before, won the ROH World Championship with a broken back. Remember that? And now he’s better than ever! That’s why he’s getting loud and excited. He wants to stay calm, keep the heartrate down. But Eddie’s only chance of winning tonight is if he knocks Castle out cold. Castle is faster, will drop below him, blast in there faster than John Smith himself, and break Eddie’s ankles. Then Castle will make the ROH viewers oh so happy. So happy! He keeps thinking about after, the party, the celebration. People like to see Castle win!

Because when Castle wins, he gets happy, and when he’s happy, the people are happy! It’s a weird ladder of just bam bam bam! Let’s get to that part already. Where Castle wins all the matches and is all the champions. Lexi says that sounds great, but Castle says she doesn’t sound sincere. No, she is not, she’s- What does she mean not? Not sincere? No! She’s climbing that ladder with him. Okay, that’s what Castle likes to hear. Tonight is the big night. Can he go get his cheese? Sure. Castle heads out, will he become the “big cheese” here tonight?

Backstage interview with Christopher Daniels & Matt Sydal.

Lexi is now with the Fallen Angel & Third Eye Reborn, and brings up their tag dream match against Komander & El Hijo Del Vikingo. How are they feeling? Sydal says this is their destiny, their life goal, what they wake up for and train harder than anybody. This is why Daniels & Sydal are still the top tag team in ROH, witness it tonight and see for yourselves. Daniels says that his roman numerals, XXX, means he’s been around for awhile. Sydal has been walking that aisle for a good long while. And just because they’ve been around a bit, well, tenure doesn’t mean a damn thing in ROH! They gotta go out every night and earn it each and every time!

So Vikingo, Komander, those guys are top luchadores, and if Daniels & Sydal wanna make it to the ROH World Tag Team Championships one more time, they gotta go through teams like them! That is what the Fallen Angel & The #ZenAssassin will do tonight! Lexi wishes them luck, Daniels says they don’t need it. Will these ROH icons score big over the AAA Mega and AAA Cruiserweight Champions? Or will they be used to prove Vikingo y Komander are ROH Tag title worthy?

Backstage interview with The Outrunners.

Lexi is with Turbo Floyd & Truth Magnum and congratulates them on their first win in ROH. What’s next for them? Turbo says the Outrunners did it again! Truth says if you’re anything like him, and he knows he is, everywhere they go, they hear it! Their fans, “The Runners,” are asking, pleading, #MoreOutrunners! Well Christmas comes early, pal! Because the ass-kickings have only just begun! Tell ’em, Turb! Truth gives Turbo a hard smack to the chest, and Turbo says that hurt a whole lot. But not as much as the hurt the put on their opponents tonight! You think this is sweat? Think again! This is “sports gloss” and the Outrunners are covered in it!

The Outrunners win every day in it, and these two are here in ROH to show everybody who is the best tag team in the world today! If you haven’t seen The Outrunners, you haven’t seen nothing yet! Will Truth & Turbo keep this momentum going until they’re the ones running the ROH Tag Division?

Tony Khan speaks.

“It’s great being with all of you on ROH Television. Speaking of ROH and TV, last week we saw the longest reigning ROH World Television Champion of all time, the King of Television, Samoa Joe, forfeit the championship, creating a vacancy for that title. And looking back at the great history of ROH, and all the exciting matches, I think the best place to determine a new champion is in Garland, Texas, on December 15th, Friday night, at ROH Final Battle, in a Six Way Survival of the Fittest Match! Here on this show in the coming weeks, we’ll have a series of eliminator matches to determine the six competitors in the field.

“And then, at Final Battle, we’ll have a great Survival of the Fittest match to crown the NEW ROH World Television Champion. There are so many great stars clambering to get into this field, and here on this show in the coming weeks, this is gonna create high stakes and exciting matches, and at Final Battle, exclusively here on WatchROH.com on Honor Club, you’ll be able to watch Final Battle, and it’s gonna be a great match, and we will crown the NEW ROH World Television Champion.

Certainly that wrestler will have huge shoes to fill because Samoa Joe has been a great champion, and is one of the greatest wrestlers of all time. This is a prestigious title with a great history, and the winner of this match will hold a great championship when we crown the NEW ROH World Television Champion December 15th in Garland, Texas, in a Six Way Survival of the Fittest match at ROH Final Battle. Back to you, Caprice and Ian!” A huge match is coming, who will get in on that golden opportunity?

Backstage interview with The Renegade Sisters.

Lexi is with Robyn & Charlette and says they have been in singles competition as of late, but tonight they face the newly established team of Rachael Ellering & Leyla Hirsch. How are they feeling going into tonight? Robyn has Lexi hold on there. Did she really say, “Established team?” Charlette says, “No, ma’am.” Robyn wants to tell us about “established.” “Established is 23 years together.” Charlette says, “That’s The Renegades. “Established is knowing exactly what her next move is, just by the look on her face.” “That’s The Renegades.” Two women who can’t even have a civil conversation, let alone have a match together, is not established.

Now we all might be seeing the revival of the ROH Women’s Tag Team Division here, but the only established team in it is The Renegades. Now, singles competition, Leyla got the one-up on them. But in tag, that’s The Renegades’ bread ‘n’ butter. #GetYouSome. Maria Kanellis walks in, and just wants to have a quick talk in private. If they’re not too busy. The Renegades head out with The First Lady of Wrestling and Lexi is rather confused. A curious development indeed, what kind of deal could be in the works?

Athena & Billie Starkz VS Brooke Havok & Johnnie Robbie!

Speaking of women’s tag action, The Fallen Angel and her Minion In Training tried this before but lost to Diamante & Mercedes Martinez. But things have been going better for them, will they look to make up for that failure tonight?

The Code of Honor is upheld and Athena starts against Robbie. The two circle, tie up, and then Athena just DECKS Robbie! Athena cheers herself, Billie cheers, and so do the fans. Athena runs in, blocks one boot but not the other! Athena runs back in, Robbie slips out to the apron and GAMANGIRIS! Athena falls back, Robbie goes up and FLYING SUNSET FLIPS! Athena rolls through, high stacks, and deadlifts Robbie to BOMB her down! Fans fire up as Athena shouts “This is MY show!” Athena hauls Robbie up, tags Billie in, and Billie is too busy being happy and proud. Athena hands Robbie off and Billie promises she won’t mess this up.

But then Robbie hits a JAWBREAKER! Hot tag to Brooke! Brooke kicks low, drops down, and KICKS UP! Then she handsprings to a body scissor and SATELLITE DDT! Brooke fires up and fans are with her as she whips. Billie reverses and Athena gets a cheap shot in! The ref misses it because Billie was faking a headache! But then Brooke DECKS Athena! Billie is mad and she runs up to DECK Brooke! Then Billie rains down fists! Billie’s looking like Athena with this! She even shouts “Don’t tell me what to do!!” Billie throws a fit, Athena tags in, and Athena drags Brooke up. Athena DECKS Robbie, then Canadian Racks Brooke, DESPICABLE ME!! Cover, Athena & Billie win!

Winners: Athena & Billie Starkz, by pinfall

And then Billie puts Robbie in a CROSSFACE! That’s also a la Athena! Athena follows Billie’s lead and puts Brooke in a CROSSFACE! Robbie and Brooke tap, Athena & Billie hold on until they’re satisfied, and then they both shout at the ref! The Fallen Goddess’ influence is working on Billie, will these two dominate ROH with iron fists?

Backstage interview with Ethan Page.

Lexi is with All Ego and says last week, he helped Serpentico get a win over Tony Nese. Is that also a win for Ethan? Ethan says not only does he consider it a win for him, it is one of his biggest wins since coming to ROH. But then Mark Sterling & Tony Nese barge in because they knew he’d be doing an interview! Sterling says firstly, he could put a restraining order on Ethan so that he wouldn’t be allowed in the building! Secondly, Sterling has filed an injunction in Kansas! Wichita, Kansas, to be specific, Sterling is so flustered he can’t even talk. But the point is, they’re getting that match thrown out, no longer counts on Nese’s record!

Ethan asks why. Why? Because Ethan helped him cheat! Ethan wants to “hire” Sterling real quick. Can he then file an injunction to have Ethan’s loss to Woods thrown out? Oh, and the one with Nese, too. Nese speaks up now. Ethan thinks he cheated? Ethan thinks Nese needs to cheat to beat Ethan? Yes. NO, Ethan just can’t stand that Nese beat him and the record is 1-0! Correct! And maybe it’s because Ethan was face to face with Nese, asked him for a rematch, and Nese ran away like a scared little chicken! They could’ve had a match, but Nese had to play games and have Woods face Ethan instead.

But since they’re face to face again, Nese can tuck his tail and run again, or accept Ethan’s challenge for a rematch. And try your best to make it 2-0! Oh, you want Nese to give you the pleasure of losing to him again? Then he’ll do just that. Sterling says then they will be done with him! Sterling & Nese leave, Ethan says he’s not moving on to bigger and better things yet. But then will Ethan get his revenge on the Premier Athlete once and for all?

Leyla Hirsch & Rachael Ellering VS The Renegade Sisters!

LEGIT Leyla didn’t want help against Robyn & Charlette but she did need it, and the Queen of Strong Style was the one to give it. And now, Maria Kanellis-Bennett has seemingly manipulated them all into a tag team match. Is Maria playing both sides to where it’s a win-win for her no matter what happens?

The Code of Honor is upheld, though barely. The teams then sort out and Leyla starts against Charlette. They circle, tie up, and Charlette uses height for leverage. Leyla holds her ground but still ends up in a corner. Charlette lets off with a shove then eggs Leyla on. Leyla and Charlette tie up again, go around, and Leyla powers Charlette to a corner. Leyla smacks Charlette’s shoulders as she lets off, but Charlette storms up on her. Leyla arm-drags her, arm-drags her again, then SHOTGUNS Charlette to the corner! Leyla runs in to forearm SMASH, and she sits Charlette down. Leyla rolls, runs back in, and SWINGING DROPKICKS! Fans fire up as Leyla drags Charlette to a cover, TWO!

Rachael reaches out but Leyla isn’t sure. Leyla CLUBS Charlette, brings her over, and tags Rachael in after all. Rachael even convinces Leyla to double whip with her. They double ELBOW Charlette, and Rachael wants a high-five. Leyla says stay on Charlette, so Rachael facelocks, CLUBS, wrenches and CHOPS! Rachael CHOPS again, brings Charlette around to WRING the arm, then she runs to SLIDING BOOT! Cover, TWO! Rachael clamps onto a facelock, then fireman’s carries. Charlette fights, uses the headband against Rachael, and she tags Robyn. The Renegades double whip, then Robyn runs in.

Rachael catches Robyn, puts her up top, but Charlette runs in. Rachael ROCKS Charlette, brings her back around, but Charlette grabs at the ref, talking about her teeth feeling loose. Rachael goes back for Robyn but gets a CROSSBODY! And then Charlette sucker punches Leyla! Robyn rains down fists on Rachael, then stomps away. Cover, TWO! Robyn is annoyed but she goes back to Rachael. Robyn drags Rachael onto ropes to CHOKE her! The ref counts, Robyn lets off at 4, and Charlette taunts Rachael. Charlette gets at Rachael, Rachael hits back but Robyn bumps Rachael off buckles. Tag to Charlette while fans rally up.

Charlette runs in to UPPERCUT! Then Robyn runs in to DOUBLE KNEE! Robyn snapmares Rachael, Charlette covers, TWO! Rachael hangs tough, but Charlette taunts the fans. Charlette dribbles Rachael off the mat, drags her up, and then bumps her off buckles. Tag back to Robyn, the Renegades bring Rachael out to DOUBLE SUPLEX! Cover, TWO! Robyn taunts Leyla, drags Rachael away, and aims for Charlette’s boot, but Rachael blocks the bump to throw elbows! Robyn ROCKS Rachael, tags Charlette, and the Renegades double whip. Drop toehold to a Chancery, and then a kick feint to SLAP Rachael! Cover, ONE!!

The Renegades are frustrated but Charlette clamps onto a chinlock. The fans rally up, Rachael fights up and throws body shots. Charlette CLUBS Rachael, tags Robyn, and Robyn CHOPS! But Rachael elbows Charlette down! Robyn ROCKS Rachael, runs to BLAST Leyla off the apron, then she goes back to Rachael. Robyn goes for legs, Rachael drags her into a cradle! TWO, Rachael ROCKS Robyn! Hot tag to Leyla! Fans fire up as Leyla gets around Robyn to GERMAN SUPLEX! And then another GERMAN SUPLEX! Charlette runs in, but into a GUT WRENCH SUPLEX onto Robyn! Fans fire up as Leyla runs to KNEE Robyn down! Cover, TWO!!

Leyla drags Robyn up, goes to Rachael, and they tag! Leyla headlocks Robyn, Rachael runs, and Leyla feeds Robyn to the RUNNING UPPERCUT! Fans fire up as Rachael then hauls Robyn up to whip. Robyn holds ropes to BOOT back! Charlette YANKS Leyla off the apron! Robyn fireman’s carries Rachael, Charlette runs in, but Rachael slips free to shove Robyn into Charlette! Roll-up on Robyn, Rachael & Leyla win!!

Winners: Leyla Hirsch & Rachael Ellering, by pinfall

The Renegades can’t believe it, but they just lost to the new team! Maria makes her way out and offers Leyla a hand up? Leyla isn’t so sure, and then Rachael goes out to check on Leyla. Is that knee okay? It is what took Leyla out for months before. Maria goes with Leyla and Rachael to the back, is this the duo Maria’s going to invest in?

Backstage interview with Athena & Billie.

Lexi is with her friends, who are now wearing shirts that ready “The Alpha” for Athena and “The Beta” for Billie.  And Athena makes sure Lexi introduces her as the “Forever” Women’s World Champion. But we saw them beat some “porcelain hussies,” so how are they feeling? Athena says they went out there, had a great match, and Billie… Billie says she did good out there. She did a great job! Right, boss? Well, Billie has shown more violence in her wrestling, yes. And yeah, we’re getting there. But Final Battle, Athena is scoping the entire roster and… They’re all trash, aren’t they? Y-Yes! They are all trash! Yes, all trash, all porcelain hussies.

But that brings Athena to Lexi & Billie, aka MIT. They can’t stay here forever. So let’s just say they either step up or Athena stomps them out. What does that mean? Is that some kind of threat? Lexi feels 1000% that’s a threat. But then what do they do? They’re MIT Buddies! Will Billie have to take flight on her own before getting kicked out of the nest?

El Hijo Del Vikingo & Komander w/ Alex Abrahantes VS Christopher Daniels & Matt Sydal!

We’ve seen the champions of AAA work together well, even in a defeat to FTR recently. But now they take on former ROH World Tag Team Champions who have vowed to get back to those titles. Who makes the biggest impact on the ROH Tag Division landscape just a month away from Final Battle?

The Code of Honor is upheld, fans rally for “LUCHA! LUCHA!” and the teams sort out. Sydal starts against Vikingo and they circle. Fans rally up and the two tie up. They go around, Sydal waistlocks but Vikingo switches. Sydal turns around but into a clinch. Vikingo swings Sydal but Sydal slips around to sunset flip, cover, TWO! Vikingo is up but Sydal ducks the kick to roll-up, TWO! Sydal goes for a leg, Vikingo stops the takedown to step over and pull Sydal into a sunset, TWO! They roll and roll and roll in a body scissors clutch and fans fire up! Viking stops to have the cover, TWO! Both men get to their feet and fans fire up!

Sydal’s a bit dizzy, he steadies himself and points up, to KICK low! Sydal swings a clothesline, Viking dodges but Sydal wheelbarrows to arm-drag. But Vikingo handsprings through, rolls back, scoops but Sydal slips free! Boots cancel out, each man ducks a kick, and the fans fire up as they shake hands. Then Sylda and Viking go to their corners and tag in Daniels and Komander. The fans fire up more as Komander shows off a bit, tightrope walk to an Arabian Press just to get in the ring. Daniels goes up the ropes, but then says nope, he can’t outdo that. They circle, tie up, and Daniels headlocks. Komander endures the grind and fights up.

Komander powers out, things speed up, but Daniels still runs Komander over! Daniels flexes and fans cheer. Daniels runs, Komander drops then hurdles, but Daniels is ready. Komander ducks ‘n’ dodges, rolls back and WHIRLYBIRD RANA! Then a DROPKICK! Vikingo GAMANGIRIS, Komander UPPERCUTS, and Daniels falls! Tag to Vikingo and los luchadores double whip. Tag to Sydal and he SLINGSHOT KICKS! High stack cover, TWO! Komander hangs in there but Sydal brings him up.

Sydal says they chopped Daniels, here’s one back! CHOP! Fans “WOO~” and Sydal whips to then back elbow in the corner! Sydal wrenches, brings Komander over and tags Daniels. Vikingo hops up to POISON-RANA! Vikingo runs, Daniels sidesteps but Vikingo springboards, into a COMPLETE SHOT! All four men are down and the fans are thunderous! Daniels rises, he storms up on Vikingo and fans declare “This is Awesome!” Sydal is up top, Daniels lifts Vikingo, METEORA BOMB!! Cover, Komander breaks it!! Komander DROPKICKS Sydal out of the ring, to then PLANCHA!

Fans fire up as Daniels whips Vikingo, but Vikingo goes Spider-Man to evade! Daniels hits buckles, Vikingo springboards to MISSILE DROPKICK! Daniels ends up in a corner, the fans rally up and Vikingo runs in, METEORA! And then Vikingo drags Daniels into the right place, tag to Komander for the CIELITO LINDO!! The AAA Mega & AAA Cruiserweight Champions score a big win here in ROH! Sydal & Daniels regroup, everyone giving a standing ovation to their performance. Sydal & Daniels want to leave, but then remember. They go back to keep the Code of Honor with Vikingo & Komander. They even raise the winners’ hands. Will Vikingo & Komander one day become icons of ROH the same as Daniels & Sydal did?

ROH World Championship: Eddie Kingston VS Dalton Castle w/ The Boys!

The Mad King still holds two crowns as he is still the NJPW Strong Openweight Champion after defeating Satoshi Kojima at NJPW Lonestar Shootout. But now, The Peacock has come for the throne of honor, looking to send Eddie “limping away like some wimpy slug!” Will Castle once again be atop the ROH mountain? Castle throws hands down on Eddie, then HEADBUTTS! Eddie swings wild, Castle KNEES back! Castle ROCKS Eddie, Eddie CHOPS Castle! And CHOPS! Castle BOOTS Eddie down, brings him around, and Alabama Lifts! Eddie fights that to URAKEN! Cover, TWO!! Castle survives going Backfist to the Future, but that was just the first! Fans fire up as Eddie storms up on Castle. Eddie prepares the sequel, URAKEN! Castle swings, into the HALF ‘N’ HALF! Castle rises but into the URAKEN again!! Cover, Eddie wins!

Winner: Eddie Kingston, by pinfall (still ROH World Champion)

It took the trilogy, but Castle still fell before the Mad King! Eddie points to the sky, then gets the mic and has everyone calm down a bit. “Hey, Dalton. Shake my hand, this was for Brodie.” Fans cheer as the two shake hands, and they look to the sky for Mr. Brodie Lee. Eddie says Brodie will never die! He’s Eddie Kingston and he DGAF, we out! The fans cheer as their Mad King takes his leave, and Lexi is there to interview him backstage. She says we just saw him have a tremendous match with Dalton Castle, and is still champion, congratulations.

Eddie says thanks, appreciates it, even though they rushed him back here to talk. He gets it, it’s part of the deal. Everyone backstage has to get paid, like the cameraman and the guy with the boom mic. He gets it. He doesn’t want to do this because he is legit tired. Not just from defending the ROH World Championship, not just from defending the NJPW Strong Openweight Championship against Kojima, but tired because he sees certain other world champions not on shows, or just doing one show, getting eight or nine segments to take up that show.

“When you’re a world champion, you’re supposed to take whatever company you’re with, and you become the tide. You’re no longer one of the boats, you are the tide that raises all the ships. That’s what I’m getting tired of. I’m getting tired of other world champions not doing their job. I’m tired that people like me, Orange Cassidy, even Mox, are the tide. Then we have other world champions who are just selfish, greedy. I wanna curse, that’s why I’m holding the rosaries but I won’t. All I have to say to the ROH fans and all pro-wrestling fans: I am a world champion that is true. No one else. Remember that.”

Strong words from the ROH World & NJPW Strong Champion, will he be the tide that elevates those companies? Will those other world champions confront him about his claims?

My Thoughts:

A very good episode of ROH, though there were some technical difficulties and it turned out to be a longer episode than expected. But even then, 94 minutes was a fair length. And it was also worth it given that great main event for the world title and Eddie’s promo(s) right after. I figured Eddie would retain, the plan is him and Lethal at Final Battle, but great showing for Castle and great moment them showing love to Brodie Lee. Eddie’s promo at the very end was great stuff, because it speaks to the truth of what’s going on with ROH.

Now, Eddie let it slip that this was taped before Lonestar Shootout, which also puts it before Samoa Joe dropping the TV title, but he’s right that Tony Khan has not been able to get other champions (ROH Tag Champs Cole & MJF at this moment) to show up on ROH all because that would require them to show up on Saturdays. Now, for me, that’s more something Eddie needs to take up with Tony, but maybe it’s also a problem that Tony hasn’t been able to persuade other champions and/or former ROH icons to show up for that stuff. I’ve been saying as much with the disappointing non-end to the story between Samoa Joe and Dalton Castle. Hell, this world title match might’ve been Eddie making it up to Castle for not getting another ROH TV title match.

But that in mind, maybe Castle can get in on that Six Way Survival of the Fittest match. Tony Khan’s promo to deliver the news for Final Battle was a bit repetitive, you can literally see he said many of the same things multiple times. But still good on him for using this to make great opportunities for a lot of guys just waiting for a chance. I’d put Castle in that match, maybe get Ethan in that after he beats Nese in their rematch, and definitely Mark Briscoe now that he’s cleared. I personally would love if this was finally the moment Mark achieves his destiny and wins this title like he should have earlier this year at Supercard of Honor.

Great opener from Trent VS Avalon, great win for Trent, and great news that he’s facing Shibata for the Pure Championship just next week. I don’t see Trent winning that, but he could/should give Shibata his best match since becoming Pure Champion. I did skip Emi’s match, The Outrunners’ match and Marina’s match, but those matches were clearly going to be squash matches. Great promo from The Outrunners, though. Like many fans, I am digging their dedication to a retro 80s style, both as tribute and parody, and would love to see them get going as a serious team, not just the goober Heel jobbers we’ve seen them be.

Now, I did skip Bollywood Boyz VS Castle’s Boys because it was basically filler, but it was a good match. Though, I’m a little confused on how ROH has the Bollywood Boyz listed in their roster. Bobby Cruise went with their WWE names, Samir & Sunil Singh, but Ian Riccaboni said their legal names, Harv & Gurv Sihra. Can’t believe there are details like this that AEW/ROH still has to iron out when they’ve been at this a few years now. Great tag match from Vikingo & Komander VS Daniels & Sydal, but I figured Vikingo & Komander would win. Daniels & Sydal keep wanting to be tag champs again but it feels like they’re just going to keep helping younger guys get wins.

Great tag matches for the women’s division, and while the Renegades simply teased the return of the Women’s Tag Division, I personally would like to see that. Athena & Billie had a fun squash that feeds into their story, and Athena’s threat to Billie and Lexi makes me think this is how they’re getting us to Athena VS Billie for the title at Final Battle. Basically it’s Billie’s graduation test, and it would be absolutely wild if Billie won the belt off Athena her first try, so not sure if they’d go through with it. Meanwhile, very good tag match from Leyla & Rachael VS Renegades with Maria apparently orchestrating a lot of that. Hopefully Leyla is okay so that this story can continue, and it’s intriguing to see where it’s going.

My Score: 8.7/10

Hangman Page is here!

Mexico City fires up for the Blackhat Cowboy as he makes his way into Arena Mexico for the first time! Hangman has a mic to say, “Hola! Mi nombre es Hangman.” And he asks they excuse his Espanol, it isn’t the best. But Hangman knows that like most White people, he’ll do his best. His familia used to grow tobacco, and they were hard workers. And they had employees who were hard workers, from right here in Mexico City. Those men were also like family! He is thankful that the people of Mexico have invited AEW into their home tonight! The fans cheer, and Hangman thanks them for the collaboration of AEW & CMLL. This is the best pro-wrestling in the world!

Hangman continues by saying that he also wants to make it known about AEW World Champion, Jon Moxley, that while Hangman is not wrestling tonight, and that he is not allowed ringside later tonight for the main event… He will find Moxley after! And Excalibur apologizes, the last part definitely can’t be translated for the sake of the broadcast. The fans still cheer Hangman on, they wanna see that #CowboyS*it. Hangman adds that once again, he is thankful for letting them be here in Arena Mexico. Now, let the action begin! The fans cheer as Hangman heads out, will The Cowboy get his hands on The Maniac before the night is over?

Well, they always say, “Card subject to change.” Cash Wheeler is not able to make it, but Lance Archer and “The Predator,” Volador Jr, take his place! Then on the other side, the OG Atlantis jumps in! Will things only end up crazier to start off Grand Slam?

As Dax Harwood & Stokely Hathaway make their way out, #BigStoke has a mic and he has them cut the music. Stokely has some good news and some bad news. Bad news: Due to circumstances beyond his control, Cash Wheeler cannot be here tonight. That’s the bad news. The good news is, one half of FTR is here tonight in the great Dax the Ax! And hey, Stokely has been working on his Espanol all day. “Grassy ass, thank you!” Still messed it up… But with that, the rest of Team Rudo make their way out, starting with Volador, followed by the Don Callis y Hechicero.

On the other side, ROH World Champion Bandido leads the way for his team, followed by Templario and the Atlantis father and son. Then Brody King and Daniel Garcia follow, saving TNT Champion, Adam Cole, for last! The fans join in for the “BOOM!” and “ADAM COLE, BAYBAY!” These massive teams sort out, and Bandido steps up against the Alpha, Konosuke Takeshita. The fans fire up as Senior ducks ‘n’ dodges and TACKLES Kyle! The fans fire up as Atlantis rains down fists! Kyle goes to a corner, Atlantis fires off more shots, then puts him in the other corner. Kyle turns things around, and are more fans cheering Kyle than Senior? Kyle runs up, Senior dodges and Junior GAMANGIRIS! Bandido SUPERKICKS Kyle! Templario JUMP KNEES Kyle! Brody CHOPS Kyle! Garcia BOOTS Kyle up and out!

The fans fire up as now Cole and the team gather together, and the fans cheer as all seven raise their hands! Bandido’s team is in control while Grand Slam goes picture in picture.

But Dax attacks anyway! What a sore loser! But Arena Mexico doesn’t seem to care?! Junior and the other luchadores run Dax off, and Stokely says keep them back! Will things just have to end here? Or will both father and son get payback on FTR soon enough?

Kazuchika Okada w/ Don Callis VS Mark Briscoe!

The Rainmaker has a Winner Takes All match with long-time rival, Kenny Omega, but he crossed a line! Not only has Okada joined Don Callis just to stick it to The Cleaner, but Okada hospitalized Omega with a brutal attack to the stomach! Will the Sussex County Chicken get a semblance of revenge on Omega’s behalf? Or will Okada make it rain in Arena Mexico?

The fans are fired up for Okada while he and Briscoe get face to face. The ref has them back away to their corners, then the bell rings. Okada and Briscoe step up again, then Briscoe shoves Okada! Okada bails out and the fans boo. Briscoe waits on Okada while commentary tells Callis he and Okada committed the most despicable thing in all of wrestling. Callis of course says it was the most shrewd tactical move in the history of wrestling. Okada takes his time returning into the ring, and then he circles with Briscoe. They tie up and are in a deadlock. They go around, Okada puts Briscoe on the ropes, but he lets off slowly.

Okada fakes the chop, and pats Briscoe on the shoulders. The fans are torn, but Briscoe kicks Okada and TOSSES him! The fans cheer as Briscoe builds speed, but Okada steps aside so Briscoe can’t dive. Briscoe gives chase, though, and they go around the outside. They slide back in, and Okada CLOBBERS Briscoe! The fans are torn as Okada CLUBS away. Okada fires forearms, storms up to stomp Briscoe in the corner, and then ELBOWS him! The fans are torn but Okada brings Briscoe around for a BIG back suplex. But Briscoe lands out, and hits the Crane Stance! Okada takes a swing, Briscoe ducks, and Briscoe CHOPS!

Briscoe whips, Okada reverses, but Briscoe slides under the boot! Crane Stance! Crane feint, then the CRANE KICK! The fans fire up as Briscoe stands up in his Redneck Kung-Fu stance. Briscoe stands Okada up to ROCK with a haymaker, then ROCKS him again. Okada staggers, Briscoe is on him with a CHOP! The fans “WOO~” and Callis acknowledges those heavy hands of Briscoe’s. Briscoe bumps Okada off buckles, stomps a mudhole, then stops as the ref counts 4. Briscoe then grinds his forearm into Okada’s face! The ref counts again, Briscoe stops at 4, and he whips corner to corner. Okada reverses but Briscoe goes up and out.

Okada runs up but Briscoe blocks a shot to ROCK Okada! Briscoe then RAMS into Okada, throws him out of the ring, and then DIVES! Direct hit and the fans fire up! Briscoe high-fives the front row before he puts Okada in the ring. Okada goes to a corner, Briscoe runs up and LARIATS! Briscoe goes corner to corner again, but Okada BOOTS him! Briscoe just fires up! Okada dodges this time, and he hoists Briscoe up to DROPKICK him down to the floor! The fans fire up while Grand Slam goes picture in picture.

Okada waits while Briscoe is down and out. A ring count starts, Briscoe stirs, but then Okada goes out to fetch Briscoe. Briscoe fires body shots but Okada kicks low! DDT to the floor! Okada leaves Briscoe behind and the ring count starts again. Briscoe rises up, leans on commentary, and he tells Callis off before he goes to the ring at 6 of 10. Okada is on Briscoe with another DDT! Cover, TWO! Briscoe toughs it out and Okada is annoyed. Okada stalks Briscoe to a corner, but Briscoe kicks low! Okada ELBOWS Briscoe, whips corner to corner, then runs in and ELBOWS Briscoe down! Okada paces while soaking up cheers and jeers.

Okada goes back to Briscoe and drags him up. Okada reels Briscoe in, turns him, and hits a NECKBREAKER! Cover, TWO! Briscoe is still in this and he rises up. Okada is on him with a chinlock and bends him back! Briscoe endures as Okada leans on the hold, and Briscoe fights around to stand back up. But Okada drags Briscoe back down! Briscoe still fights, Grand Slam returns to single picture, and the fans rally up. Briscoe rises again, fires body shots, then runs, ducks ‘n’ dodges, but Okada hits a FLAPJACK! Okada is ice cold while the fans fire up. Okada brings Briscoe up, gut wrenches, but Briscoe fights to a victory roll! TWO!

Okada runs up, Briscoe waistlocks, but Okada switches. Briscoe breaks free to PELE! Both men are down and the fans fire up again! Briscoe pounds the mat and the fans rally. Briscoe rises, Okada stands, and they throw forearms back and forth! Briscoe ROCKS Okada, and Okada comes back to CLAW Briscoe’s eyes! Okada whips, but Briscoe reverses and CHOPS! Briscoe fires forearms, then whips. Okada reverses but Briscoe FLYING FOREARMS! The fans fire up again and both men rise up. Briscoe winds up to LARIAT in the corner! Briscoe brings Okada out to a FISHERMAN BUSTER! Cover, TWO!

The fans fire up as Okada stays in this! Briscoe clutches his neck but he brings Okada back up. Okada fights the clinch, the fans duel, and Okada puts Briscoe on ropes. Okada whips, Briscoe FLIPS through the backdrop! The fans fire up and Okada thinks it is for him. But he turns around into a REDNECK UPPERCUT! Briscoe runs in at the corner, but Okada pops him up to the Alabama Lift! REVERSE NECKBREAKER! The fans fire up again and Okada scoops to SLAM! Standard formula, Okada goes up the corner! MACHO ELBOW! Then Okada winds it up, and gives the Rainmaker MIDDLE FINGER~!

Winner: Kazuchika Okada, by pinfall

The Continental Champion is rolling on the road to Arlington! Don Callis celebrates with his potentially new golden goose, but then Callis CLAWS Briscoe’s eyes! The fans boo as Okada aims with the belt! BELT SHOT to the ribs!! And then BELT SHOT to the head!! Callis & Okada stomp away on Briscoe, then they leave him behind. Another message sent to not just Kenny Omega but to anyone who would dare defy them. Will Okada go from Continental Champion to Unified Champion after going All In?

MJF w/ The Hurt Syndicate VS Mistico!

The Scumbag only ever does or uses something when it benefits him, and being extremely patriotic for the United States only seems to happen when he wants to stick it to someone not from the United States. MJF waves Ol’ Glory while he, MVP, Bobby Lashley & Shelton Benjamin walk down to the ring, but will he have to wave the white flag of surrender here tonight? Or will MJF somehow screw over the arguably greatest and most beloved man in CMLL?

In fact, to counter MJF being an American idiot, Mistico takes off his Sin Cara mask to reveal the colors of Mexico’s flag and therefore the colors of his people. He also has Me Muero as his theme, and the fans all know that one! The bell rings and the two circle while the fans rally behind Mistico. The two tie up, MJF SHOVES Mistico away, and then MJF soaks up the heat. MJF mockingly claps and then says up theirs! MVP tells MJF to worry about Mistico, not the fans. The fans tell MJF off and MJF tells them to shut up. MJF and Mistico tie up, Mistico SHOVES MJF, and Mistico eggs MJF on! MJF gets up, he and Mistico circle again, and they tie up. MJF kicks low and grins.

MJF brings Mistico around to headlock but Mistico fires body shots. Mistico powers up and out, then CHOPS! Mistico winds up and the fans rally, and he knuckle locks before he CHOPS again! Mistico goes up, up, and he tightrope walks to FLYING ARM-DRAG! The fans fire up as Mistico then hits a CODE RED! Cover, TWO! MJF bails out but Mistico builds speed! Mistico handsprings to fake MJF out! MJF thinks he’s smooth for running away, but then MVP tells him to focus on Mistico, not on the fans. MJF says he knows, and he eggs on Mistico. Mistico runs out there to chase MJF, but then the Hurt Syndicate stands in the way!

The fans boo, Mistico wags his finger, and he tells them to part. MJF runs up to ROCK Mistico first! The fans boo but MJF high-fives his guys. MJF says, “Easy! Too easy!” MJF puts Mistico in the ring, smirks while the fans call him more names. MJF swivels his hips, then runs up, but Mistico dodges the knee drop! Mistico runs up to RANA! The fans fire up and Mistico has MJF in a corner. MJF wants mercy, but Mistico says nope! Mistico runs up, but MJF YANKS him into buckles! “ESTA LUCHA!” as Yuta runs, ducks ‘n’ dodges, and BUSAIKU KNEES Shibata! But Shibata’s right up to PENALTY KICK!! Both men are down and the fans continue to rally! Hot tags to Swerve and Moxley! These two fire forearms and the fans fire up again! The most dangerous men in AEW go back and forth, but Swerve gets the edge! Moxley ROLLING ELBOWS! Swerve mule kicks and HAYMAKERS! Ospreay adds a HOOK KICK! Swerve somersaults for the FLATLINER! Ospreay helps Swerve turn Moxley in the gator roll, CHASING THE DRAGON!! The fans are thunderous and Ospreay sets Moxley up!

Swerve goes up, but Matt stops Swerve! Swerve kicks Matt away and Ospreay BOOTS Matt down! But Marina distracts the ref! Nick SHOVES Swerve and Swerve HOTSHOTS off the ropes! Moxley rolls swerve up to cover, DEATH BUCKS WIN!!

Winners: The Death Riders, The Young Bucks & The Beast Mortos, by pinfall

The Problem is always a factor, but this isn’t done as Yuta & The Bucks beat up on Joe! Then the Bucks SUPERKICK Swerve! Moxley has a SLEEPER on Swerve, then feeds him to the SUPERKICKS! Moxley puts the SLEEPER back on, but HERE COMES HANGMAN!! The Cowboy told us about the ringside ban, but also mentioned that once the match was over, it was fair game! Hangman storms out here, unintentionally saving Swerve, and he glares at Moxley. The fans fire up as Hangman throws off his jacket and rushes the ring! Moxley stands his ground, the two get face to face, and now go fist for fist! Yuta gets in but Hangman DECKS him!

Moxley kicks low! Moxley whips but Hangman goes to the apron! Moxley waits, Hangman slingshots, but then Moxley dodges! BUCKSHOT on Matt! Well, it did hit a Buck, and Nick asks wtf! Hangman says he told them, they stay out of his business or else! But now Moxley has the briefcase! Only for Hangman to spot him first. Moxley is frozen in place, and now The Opps & Ospreay get in the ring! The Maniac decides discretion is the better part of valor, and The Death Riders are in retreat. But there’s no running from what’s coming! 24 days remain before All In, will they be the last 24 days Moxley has as champion?

My Thoughts:

Awesome night for AEW’s first show in Mexico, even with things going about how I expected. For one, Mone of course won the title, because why else would they even do this match if not to give her one more belt? Though, what’s wild is that she picked up another belt without much hype or press from AEW. I guess European Wrestling Alliance hopes this gets them some attention. But good stuff with Toni Storm’s noir video and the sneak attack. And I would hope Toni retains the title at All In to keep Mone from going Ultimo Dragon just yet.

Cash Wheeler and Claudio Castagnoli both had travel issues, so I understand subbing people in. But did a 12 Man Tag really need to become a 14 Man Tag for it? And seeing as how I don’t cover CMLL’s own programming, I have NO idea why Atlantis Senior & Junior are getting booed. Is it a “Cena Wins LOL” situation where Junior is winning too much? That’s the only thing I can really think of offhand. But naturally, the Faces of that match won, as The Don Callis Family was rolling last week and needed humbling. I would think we still get Adam Cole VS Kyle Fletcher 2 now, and maybe Kyle wins the title so that the Don Callis Family has something.

Although, Callis seems to be bringing Okada into the fold for whatever reason, so he could end up bringing the “Unified” Continental & International Championship to the family. Okada VS Briscoe was great, and naturally Okada got the win. Mistico VS MJF was great stuff, up until MJF gave up and gave Mistico the win there. I know MJF loves getting heat, but him being the first man to snatch Mistico’s mask away like that is some HUGE heat. Also, I think I said it way back during some feud Penta had in AEW, but are masks really sacred if they’re willing to let them get ripped, stretched, and even yanked away? Or has that been lucha libre kayfabe all along? Either way, great stuff with JetSpeed and the other luchadores showing up, lots of matches set up with that.

Great Fatal 4 Way, and great win for Hologram to stay undefeated, but I will again criticize needing to do money prizes for these things. They should’ve set Hologram up for a title match twice over by now but TK is apparently making Hologram his top undefeated guy. Like if Goldberg was more than just big and strong and could actually do stuff… Also, while they obviously didn’t work together the entire time, I just feel like Ricochet having Lio Rush & Action Andretti become his crew (what with them being CRU and all) is the right move. Or perhaps this story of finding a faction is going to be an ongoing gag that no one likes Ricochet and would never follow him.

Then a great 10 Man Tag main event, though a little redundant considering Anarchy in the Arena was only a few weeks ago. Still good stuff for everybody, especially Mortos since he got to sub in for Claudio. Of course Marina gets involved so that the Heels win, but great stuff with Hangman going after Moxley. Hangman did a great job in his promo speaking Espanol to show respect to the fans. Naturally, Moxley gets away, that’s his whole thing. I really hope Ospreay, Swerve and The Opps keep the Death Riders and Bucks at bay so Hangman doesn’t get screwed over at All In. It’d be garbage if, after all this time and energy, it doesn’t pay off with Hangman as the triumphant hero.

My Score: 9/10
